Ocracoke Island Campground is only accessible by ferry or aircraft. Campsites are located on sandy soil, so campers are encouraged to bring extra long tent stakes. Flush toilets, drinking water, cold showers and grills are all provided for a more comfortable beach camping experience. The campground is conveniently located on the ocean side, separated from the beach by barrier dunes.
Driving on the beach is allowed by vehicles with a permit with a minimum charge of $50 for 10 days. While it is not required to have a 4x4 vehicle it is definitely recommended due to thick soft sand in many areas.
Mosquitos are vicious at the campground at dusk and early morning so it is highly recommended that you bring proper clothing, repellent and netting if possible.
