We have been to Cape Lookout (South Island) twice. Cape Lookout National Seashore is an awesome place for beach camping. We may have to go back and check out the North (Portsmouth) Island. I understand that you can no longer get to Portsmouth village from the north island anymore. Also, to anyone considering this trip. Print off a tide chart and pay attention to it. You don’t want the high tide flooding your camp.
Love your videos!! Just a question, I’m interested in the campers y’all pull. Out of the Teton X and the Summit, which are both great, which is your favorite?
We love both of these campers. Send us a message to Contact@coddiwomple-overland.com And we will give you a breakdown of both campers. What we like the most in each campers.
Hey guys. Can you go all the way to the north end to the old town? 4 years ago the hurricane cut it in half but 2 years ago it was healing back and about 6 feet deep at the middle at low tide.
Awesome video as always Bill and Deb. This was such an incredible place so peaceful you can really slow down and enjoy the day without a care in the world. Thank for letting us ride along with y’all on y’all’s adventures.
Few years ago we rented a house in Ocracoke and brought my 14ft Starcraft Jon boat. Motored over to Portsmouth Island and as soon as we hit the beach the flies attacked us.
What would you recommend airing down for a 2500 Chevy? We also have a Intech OVR Expedition that’s 7500 lbs loaded. Would this combination be too heavy to take out there?
I love the beach trips, except the sand 😊. We do it every summer in Long Island NY. Hanging out by the ocean is very relaxing and having your vehicle with all your essentials is a big plus. You should come out to Long Island one day and try the beaches here. 😊
Had gone to Portsmouth for 25 years straight every October and some Aprils to drum fish until hurricane took out the cabins. Have stayed in octagons and square cabins every time. We have gone and caught coolers of fish and other times not a thing. Either way it was always a great time. Looks like they have redone the “Donza Lee”. Wish you could have experienced riding over on the “Green Grass”. That was always a unique experience. You were never sure you were going to make it across, but that old shrimp boat/ferry always made it😂.
Wow the island has changed a lot since I last went camping out there. There were bathrooms houses and a ranger station you could buy gas from. You could even drive up to the abandoned village and explore. Sad to see that seems to a thing of the past. The ferry even looks smaller than what they used to use. My wife says we can’t go back there until they get the bathhouses going again lol
