Yeah man the magic of a good set of winter tires, when you first drive on them it is eye-opening. no all season tire is coming close to the performance of a good winter tire in ice and snow.
I bought the General Tire Altimax Arctic 12. 225/55r/16. I put them on my 2004 Mercedes E320, with the 4-matic drive system. My reaction to them is practically identical to your reaction and review. I paid $701 for the set, mounted /balanced and taxes/fees. I feel much safer on the road with a fully dedicated snow tire. Also it’s important to maintain the proper air pressure. Tire pressure can change dramatically when the temperatures rise and fall. Having snow tires on my vehicle has provided more confidence. I have good maneuvering and braking. I’m able to maintain a straight line when breaking, with is very comforting. And the tires are not loud, even on dry pavement. Snow tires provide the most safety for driving in low temperatures (below 45 degrees) and the associated winter conditions. I highly recommend them and encourage everyone to get snow tires if they can afford to do so. They are a good investment to protect your vehicle and maintain safety for family and friends. Tow trucks are costly. $100-200, Minor Vehicle damage is even more costly. Far more than $500-1,000 for a set of snow tires. And by using snow tires for 3-4 months, the life of your summer tires is extended. I really do wish more people would buy snow tires. Everyone’s safety would be improved.
Hello, great video. I have a 2019 TRD Pro 4Runner and I have Blizzaks for the winter. I have to agree with you completely on these tires for winter driving.
I drove a 2014 Mustang to work in winter on four Blizzaks WS-80s...they didn't slip on that vehicle either. Truly among the very best snow and ice tires you can buy.
JUST HAD THESE BLIZZAKS MOUNTED ON MY GIRLS JEEP PATRIOT YESTERDAY. FIRST SNOW OF SEASON IS HAPPENING NOW, SO THANKS TO YOUR VIDEO, I NOW FEEL SAFE FOR MY GIRL DRIVING THESE SNOWY COLORADO MOUNTAIN ROADS. I PAID AROUND $700 OUT THE DOOR WITH WARRANTY AT DISCOUNT TIRE IN DENVER.
I had a FWD 08 chevy impala with blizzaks on them and I never got stuck in the snow. Got home in some serious Connecticut snow storms too. Snow tires are everything.
I had them on my 16 cx5. I now have them on my 2020 cx5 gt. Waiting for the snow. They drive great on dry pavement also. Definitely a good buy. I take them off when snow isn’t predicted in the forecast though. I have separate rims for the snows. Takes about 20 min to swap them out! When installing or rotating I do suggest you pay attention to the arrows on the sidewall. These tires can’t be rotated criss cross. They are front and back.
I've had the Blizzaks for like over 5 years I won't buy anything else for winter tires. Worth the money I have them on my 21 Trailblazer. I'm from Alaska so you NEED a decent tires!
Thanx for a great vid. I have a 2015 Toyota 4Runner sr5 and I live in northern Ontario Canada. The Blizzak tires and vehicle are beauty! Grade A awesome 👍
2017 TRD premium here. Amp power steps, 3" toytec springs, 32.5" Toyo MTS. Kills it in the snow! Turn off Trac control in the deep stuff. Good video 👌 Like to see that thing in deep stuff!
I have the stock all seasons on my 2019 TRD Off Road Premium and while they work well enough for slow speed driving in packed powder I ended up in a hidden ditch and very stuck while reversing down a forest road with about 14" of snow on it, and by that point I might as wheel be in a 2 wheel drive car with summer tires. Love the review!
just ordered a set of blizzacks for my 2018 crosstrek! i have ski'd 12 days already this year, but on the last two i was sliding. need some winter tires!
Ltd is the best trim for snow and unpredictable weather conditions due to its centre Torsen differential being unlocked all the time. Other trims like trd and SR5 has the traditional part time 4wd which you will need to manually engage 4hi when it snows and it's a pain in the ass to do a U turn. Plus, you can't go over 80Km/h on highway.
Brian Zhu Oh yeah I agree with you for sure. As a daily winter driving truck the LTD is the best for sure. Effortless and no bucking and bucking when making tight turns.
Brian Zhu, I have a 2018 SR5 Premium and there is No speed restrictions on 4H. Only to engage 4H you have to be 100kms or below. So you are ok to be on the highway in 4H. This is according to the owners manual and the service manager at Toyota.
I have a 2012 Subaru Outback and I've been using Michelin all season tires the last 4 years. Those tires gripped on snow like glue! I know of some buddies who have the Blizzaks and always raving excellent reviews about them. It was between the Michelin X-Ice xi3 and Blizzaks so I finally decided to go with Bridgestone a few days ago. We had snow few weeks ago but none this week in Toronto, Ontario - Canada. Anyhow, cant wait for the snow and test these babies out. So far they feel great and extremely quiet!! Great review and keep it up. Subbed ya!
Your video definitely helped. I really appreciate videos like this. Its so much better hearing from unscripted real life situations. Tomorrow im putting these on my 2020 Toyota Rav4 AWD. thanks man for posting your experience.
I’ve had blizzaks on a few different cars and they truely are amazing in the snow and ice and worth every penny. Just be sure to change them out once the weather starts to warm up in the spring, the warm dry roads will eat these tires up quickly.
Yep, I've currently got 4 seasons on my set of WS-70s and I always change them out in March... or April depending how cold it is. Warm weather + soft compounds chews these tires up.
My family owned a 4runner, we lived in Connecticut so that SUV got us through some very bad blizzards and even got hit with a snowplow and we drove it off the crash site. Amazing vehicle and my #1 choice in any situation
I’m getting these Tuesday bcuz I already had a few scares in my All terrains with a snow flake symbol but there not so great after a year haha. Plus I’m in Canada and we travel a lot for hockey 🏒
I have these tires (DMV-2) on a 2017 Grand Cherokee 4X4, it’s an absolute tank. These tires will get you in trouble in a snow storm because you’ll be on the highway doing 70 in a snow storm. The only issue with them is they’re very soft, don’t drive on them in warm weather.
I had 30% thread on my all season and I just put on my blizzaks that I had for 3 seasons now which still has 80-90% thread. Huge difference. Even when my all seasons were new..... it didn’t come close to the blizzaks
I just got in from doing some cleanups this storm was awful tough pushing heavy wet snow it’s days like this I love having a diesel can’t beat that torque pushing heavy snow. It’s currently 5 degrees here and everything is frozen hitting a snow bank is like hitting a concrete wall. Pats game was insane what a game super bowl bound again baby so pumped
Hey brother Boston Massachusetts here we got 7" plus ice on top of that. Just got done watching the Pat's kick ass wayyy to go. Glad tires worked out great for you guys keep the vids coming
leardi58 We had a couple inches of snow and then a ton of rain. Nothing left here now but up in NB they got hammered with snow. Man what a game!!! Here we go to the show again!
I'm looking to get a 4runner soon. Will be getting the TRD Off Road. Just have to teach myself how/when to use 4WD Hi and Low. Here in Chicago, I usually drive my 1999 Chevy Lumina in the snow. I can drive a FWD car really well in the snow. Of course I have a good set of tires. So should be a heck of a lot easier when I get the 4runner.
6:45 I am going to buy a 4Runner Limited "for my wife" as well. LOL! Nice! Seriously though, love your 4Runner vids. I just, as a matter of fact, closed a deal for a 2021 Limited and am stoked! Delivery is set for next week.
Blizzacks are a no brainer I have an older 05' Blazer 2dr 4x4 It has seen All season tires in winter use (Before i owned it) "Winter" tires And I use that term loosely Mud and Snow that i actually bought. Now the problem with the Blazer 4x4 is up to 05' the gear ratio And the torque of the V6 engine was pretty strong in first And second gear You could smoke the tires The same could be said for trying to make a left-hand turn at a traffic light with cars behind you And other cars infront of you making a turn aswell Letting go of the brake you had a small push forward Taping the gas The truck would fish out It was a very fine line on moving with those M+S tires The same for stopping Blizzacks changed that You did not have to worry about sliding around the sides ..I mean if you were trying to do a donut even on ice You could but even then feel traction long with it .......Steel rims And Blizacks (aluminum snaps off)
I had a 2001 Toyota 4Runner and it was a very great SUV ! I have a 2019 Toyota Tundra but I think 🤔 I’m going to trade it for a 2020 or 2021 Toyota 4Runner! In the color you have I love ❤️ that color.. great 👍 video I Subscribe to your channel
I love Blizzaks. I run them through November to March or April on my Altima here in Wisconsin. Their only weakness is dry fluffy snow, 4 inches of dry fluffy snow will have you sliding around a bit but they dominate everything else especially wet snow and slush, even freezing rain.
This is the exact experience I've had. They are great in slush, wet snow, or snow on rough ice - but when it's dry fluff they seem to swim around as much as any other tire.
Just purchased a new Limited. Have put 3000 miles on it. I'm "averaging" 20.9" MPG on regular fuel. I'm more than satisfied with that. Bought the wife a new SR5. She's averaging 18.5. Conclusion: I think your driving habits have something to do this the fuel milage. I'm what they'd call a feather foot.
East of Seattle we had about 20 inches over a week, and I took my new 18 gray limited out in the stock Yokohama all seasons regularly in a very hilly neighborhood. It turned one AM to sleet like this and it was absolutely awful and the truck struggled to get out of the neighborhood to work up a hill, but it made it. I was one of the few out of 50 houses though that made it out. So, I suspect the with Blizzaks it would be amazing.
@@workplaytv I'm about to do a small lift with Bilstein struts and shocks (getting rid of the xreas system) and slap on some A/Ts that are snow rated, so should be similar to the FJ video in snow which I just watched too real quick lol.
Jeremy Taylor Haha yeah that thing is a lot of fun! That would be awesome if I don’t have the the FJ I would consider the same. I wanted to put the Falken Wildpeak on the 4Runner but being the wife’s daily driver I decided dedicated winter tires was the better way to go.
What steel wheels do you have? We just moved up to Wisconsin from the south and need a winter tire and wheel setup for our 2015. I'd like to copy your setup for this next winter. Thanks, Cheers!
Awesome videos. I just subscribed to ur channel due to the 4runner vids. Question? I have a 2011 4runner limites which came stock with 20inch wheels so did u go diwn to 17 on urs and did u get a lift or is it stock. And what size tire did u get. U just put somo Toyos open countryATII on my 4runner 265/50/20 but was thinking if getting some 17's down the road just wondering if i would have to lift my car?
Hi, great video, really interesting to see these tire in action. I wonder, which tire it is : the Blizzak DM-V2 or the Blizzak LT ? They seem really nice. What are the size of the tire, do they rub in fender ?
Yes I love my blizzaks to. But if you look at 11:13 in the video, your tires did slip. Sorry I hate to be like that but i did have to call you out on that.
Traction control light flashing means it slipped. Nice setup up though. I have a 2018 it does okay with the stock all seasons as well. Of course not like the snow tires.
I’m debating getting this 4Runner Limited and Lexus GX460. Both have full time 4wd with center locking differential, 4hi and 4lo. The Lexus has a V8 and more luxury features, the 4Runner has a V6.
woolengrappler Hey man you can’t go wrong with either because when it comes down to it you are buying a Toyota. Lexus has more luxury big more expensive parts and the V8 is great if you plan to use the rig to tow a lot. If not then the V6 is great. I hope that helps. Anything else I can help with let me know.
Gx460 can be found cheaper in alot of cases because people dont really get rid of their 4runners. If you're buying used, go with the gx. If youre buying new, i think the 4runner might be cheaper. Dont quote me on that, vehicles nowadays are damn pricey
I will be getting a 4runner later this year and while I'd love the Limited's Full time 4wd, I do not want to spend that much for a new car and I've never been into luxury vehicles. I don't want the push button start or any of that. So I'm looking at either the SR5 Premium or TRD Premium. I just have to learn when to use 4wd, especially when there's snow on the ground. I'm in Chicago. I'm also use to fwd.
That's a great setup for snow! When you really stepped on the gas, I really thought the tires would at lest spin. Very impressive how capable that is. Do you notice a difference in power between your 2017 25o and new 350?
Brandon Yeah man I was really impressed! No spin at all. Not really at all. If anything my 250 feels quicker than my 350. Maybe cause it’s broke in good and everything is nice and loose. Lol
I've have the Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 on my 07 Xterra for 5 season now. Really great tire for deep snow and ice, but wet traction could be better. On my 2021 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium I'm running the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 SUV.
I have an 09 4runner Sr5 I get an average of 15.5 mpg. To be completely honest you really don’t notice the mpg. But you don’t buy a 4runner for the Mpg you buy it for its performance!
Alden Shipley performance, reliability and it’s built like a tank! And and! It’s Japanese so i’m guessing maintenance isn’t as expensive v.s luxury brands.
I just bought a 2021 Toyota rav 4 Awd theses tires be good on this ? I’m a woman driver up in Ontario and snow / ice makes me so nervous Have the xice 2 and horrible in snow
Thanks for the great Video. Disappointed to see some sedan or smaller SUV on the same road since they probably didn't have Blizzak or 4Runner but is driving on the same road without slipping. Anyway, thinking of putting these on Acura MDX during this coming winter since my kid College is up in Rochester, NY. Thanks again for the Video!
@@workplaytv The traction control I'm use to is always engaged. You have to disengage it when you don't want traction control. Anyway, I'm impressed with the performance.
Rick Anderson Yeah I understand but what I am saying is when trac comes on it cuts power. That never happened I had full power the whole time. And oh yeah man I am blown away. Very impressed.
The only reason they use that tire is NOT because of performance but because they underbid everyone else by a few bucks. Same thing goes for why the highway patrol in th U.S use Fords...Ford under bids everyone by a couple of bucks a car...doesnt mean they are the best for the job.
Coopers are not snow tires. Michelin a/s w 3 peak symbol vs nokain hakka 9 snows is NO CONTEST. We run blizzak dmv2 on the 4wd with replacement certs so we get free replacement if they cut sidewalls off road aired down.
Hey man, hope you’re well, I’m looking at these tires Bridgestone - BLIZZAK LT , the DMV-2 and WS90 do you recommend the LT’s after a year of winter ? Thanks I tried the KO2 they suck! I’m a Nokian guy but cannot find a rougher thread :(
Bridgestone tires have short life , but they are great and expensive , i recommend General Tire same type, cheap and Bridgestone type of performance , Snow tires have soft rubber made for cold weather does not get hard and thats why these are awesome for snow .
Irfan Oh yeah for sure winter tires def don’t last as long due to the softer makeup. If these don’t last I think I will Try the Toto’s I mentioned in the video next. But we will get a couple years out of these atleast.
I would take this over any Subaru!! Here is why (1) more reliable once the engine hits over 150,000 km (2) parts such as timing belt and clutch are much cheaper and (3) much better utility. The only down side is the gas but I think compared to the WRX and STI there is not much of difference as they take premium vs regular for the runner!
I have 4runner and wrx. For fuel subaru lot better part cheaper than 4runner. Both bunch of aftermarket parts. If you take care both can hit 200k. My 4runner 264k miles. They are expensive parts too. I use 4runner for off road but if 4runner manual transmission easy hit 400k. I am happy with wrx and 4runner.
@@workplaytv meh don't like it 😁, I'll make my question more presice. Will this do well in deep snow or mud, by deep Im thinking of near 1 meter of snow or 50cm of mud.
FX Yeah well I would put a suspension on it to get you up in the air more but yeah these things are great. Might want to look at the off road or TRD Pro
FXThe limited has a electric locking center dif so AWD with the option of locking in 4x4 if you want locking rear axle and manual transfer case you need the off-road or TRD pro. The limited has A-Trac with is pretty awesome.
