Toyota announces today that its Corolla Sport, equipped with the latest Toyota Safety Sense*1 preventive safety package and Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Parking Support Brakes (Stationary Objects)*2, received the highest score*3 in the JNCAP*4 Preventive Safety Performance Assessment for the first half of 2018, gaining the top ranking of "ASV+++*5."
The ASV+++ rank was newly established this fiscal year, symbolizing the highest possible rank. Adding to previous categories, the performance assessment now includes tests for a "collision damage mitigation brake system that detects pedestrians (at night with street lighting)," a "pedal-misapplication acceleration control device," and "front lighting for high-performance driving."
The Corolla Sport comes standard with the latest version of Toyota Safety Sense, featuring improved sensing functions and a pre-collision safety system that detects pedestrians during both the day and at night, as well as cyclists during the day. Additional safety functions are available as options, such as the Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Parking Support Brakes (Stationary Objects), which helps reduce and/or mitigate collision damage by detecting still objects such as glass and walls.
In Japan, approximately 70 percent of road accidents resulting in pedestrian fatalities occur at night*6. To combat this, in January 2018 Toyota launched an updated version of its Toyota Safety Sense, featuring a pre-collision safety system that detects pedestrians at night. At present, in Japan Toyota Safety Sense is equipped as standard across a total of five*7 models; going forward, Toyota intends to increase the number of models fitted with this safety system.
Toyota is developing safer vehicles and technologies based on its Integrated Safety Management concept, an approach that gives direction to safety technology and vehicle development. Toyota is also pressing forward with measures that integrate people, vehicles, and the traffic environment to contribute to the elimination of traffic fatalities and injuries―the ultimate goal of a society of mobility.
*1 - Standard on all Corolla Sport vehicles.
*2 - Option on the Corolla Sport hybrid and CVT models.
*3 - The Corolla Sport scored 122.4 points out of a maximum possible 126 points, and was the highest-scoring vehicle to be evaluated during this round of assessments.
*4 - Japan New Car Assessment Program: vehicle safety information provided by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), and the National Agency for Automotive Safety and Victims' Aid since fiscal year 1995. The information comprises results of safety evaluations for domestically available vehicles based on tests including preventive safety performance tests, collision safety performance tests, and pedestrian protection performance tests.
Results of the Preventive Safety Performance Assessment can be found at the following site: www.nasva.go.jp/mamoru/en/car_...
*5 - Advanced Safety Vehicle
*6 - Source: ITARDA Information (No. 83), 2010
*7 - Alphard, Vellfire, Crown, Corolla Sport, Mirai

This is such an important system. I think the most important in any car. I think every new car, even the cheapest, just have to come with this system. I think we should mandate that every new car comes with this system by default.

Signal turned green and the truck ahead accelerated, so did I. Then it slammed on the brakes for no apparent reason. The system avoided a rear ender. Thanks Toyota! 👍

If the speed was too high, this system can't help, unfortunately. But yes, I think it should be mandated that every new car comes with this system integrated. It's just not right that we still produce new cars that don't have them as a default feature.

Toyota, please program the collision/pedestrian detection to also turn on your hazards whenever they slam the brakes. We don’t want people ramming us from behind. Thanks!

It sure doesn't work for deers . I bought a 2020 toyota camry, and 2 weeks after purchase, I was driving home from work, going 55mph and saw a deer crossing the road , I slowed down to 45mph and a baby deer came running across after following its mom . I slammed on my breaks and came to a stop, but I clipped the baby deer, probably going about 10 or 15mph, and sent it flying into the bushes . The deer was fine, but I hit it pretty hard . Luckily, there was no damage to my car , only some hair in the bumper. But I didn't get a break alert for either of the deer .

The technology is all the same across Toyota vehicles that are designed and manufactured by Toyota. The technology will be different in the 2020 Toyota Yaris, and 2020 Toyota Supra because they were designed by different automakers. Otherwise, your Prius will have the same tech, meaning it should operate just as well. If you want it to detect an obstacle earlier, change the sensitivity of the Collision Avoidance. Also, it’s possible that the vehicle didn’t think you were in danger of an accident. Trust me, it will save you when you are truly in danger of an accident.

@MaximC
@MaximC 2 года назад
@@cyurenes9961 You sure? I think I just heard in a Toyota video that sensitivity just refers to the level of visual and audio warnings, it doesn't change the sensitivity of the system.
@cyurenes9961
@cyurenes9961 2 года назад
@@MaximC you might be referring to the 3 levels of how the PCS system detects an obstacle. The sensitivity is basically just the sensitivity of the system. If set to maximum, it’ll warn you at the earliest possible moment. If set to minimum, it will wait until the last moment, then it’ll warn you, before autonomously braking if action isn’t taken.

Why has Toyota Done away with a Manual Emergency Brake with a cable? This Is wrong. Esp living in a rust prone area where I have seen people loose there brakes on a car 6 years old. We do have safety inspections but there are many reasons why brakes fail. Doing away with the Ebrake is a bad idea.

This is why I'm probably going to purchase another Mercedes Benz. MB safety is the best in the world..and there are many videos showing how it will stop for pedestrians and cars. I really wanted the reliability of a Toyota..but the pre-collision is vital for me and if Toyota can't guarantee it works then I won't feel my family is safe in their vehicles.
