Very helpful. The rarely used end of my driveway has forsythias branches which are flexible but otherwise cause the car to brake. So this is incredibly useful--I can now get out of my driveway that way without braking 100 times.
An easier and equally effective solution is to install a 1 amp diode -such as a 1N4001- in series with the controller tail light red wire. Orient the diode so that the anode (the end with the white band) is toward the controller. I just did this install on my new 2022 Rav, and it did the trick. Took all of 5 minutes.
Thank you! I'm looking for some type of wiring diagram for the relay switch (5Pin Wire Socket Plug harness) install that you recommended, with my brake controller, and how you wire everything to it as well as the wires coming off the brake controller and the 5 wires coming off the relay switch and everything from the front back to the back. Do you by chance have a wiring diagram of your install that you’d be willing to share? Thanks so much. I’m using a RedArc Liberty tow-pro controller for the ’24 rav4 prime. Thanks so much! Alan
So what do you think was electrically happening to trigger the code? Was the brake controller putting 12v on the brake switch line when you manually operated it? Or was it unexpected drag caused by the trailer brakes when manually controlled?
Good solution, my 16 limited last year in the summer for a month decided to go haywire and disabled the precollision system. The fault disabled everything including cruise control instead of just reverting to traditional non-adaptive cruise control. Dealer quoted over 500 to replace and recalibrate. After a few weeks it started to work again and has ever since.. safety features are great but they are pia when they get old or you're trying to do simple mods to your car.
Hybrid RAV4 owner here, thanks so much for taking the time to put your videos on RU-vid. One question, does the car properly signal the brake controller when you are using the adaptive cruise? Another video on RU-vid the guy mentions he uses a remote brake controller and it only uses the brake lights as it signal and I’m wondering if it’s still a proportional system likes yours (and the one I ordered).
Good question. I dont know. I havent allowed the car to brake for me while towing. When I tow I am usually very attentive and I do all the driving. I dont have any trips planned but Ill keep this in mind to test at some point.
@@JamesKlafehn I commented on your original video with more detail but it's worth noting that likely a better option is to simply use the brake light wire instead of wiring directly from the brake. I didn't even think about pre-collision and other safety features that might be useful even if you are super attentive.
So did this solve it long-term? I just had this happen with my 2020 RAV same day I had a controller installed. Reaching out to the installer to see if they already fixed it while installing and wondering if my email from Toyota was just delayed. I never got the dash warning.
I have no idea why I watch your “how to” for super specific Toyota hacks. LOL. I hate Toyota for their massive hit to USA manufacturing. I enjoy your videos tho, they have a unique charm, and you have a great “I can do it, I can build it” ethic that works great in RU-vid videos. Your channel should be way more popular traffic wise. Maybe if you could do Wednesday then Sunday drops every single week the RU-vid algorithm would smile down on you.
Thank you! :) I posted a lot last month and got quite a bit of traffic, at least for me. Sharing is one of the biggest things that helps channels. Engagement too so comments and thumbs up. I havent had time to post regularly and with the family schedule its hard to keep a normal youtube schedule.
You fanboys love to place blame on me. I didn’t cut a single wire in that POS. Nothing I did was permanent or damaging. The car just sucked. You’re welcomed to skip past my videos. Tired of fanboys.
@Potato It most definitely will have issues; When he ties that T-Rex range extending trailer into the charging system on these cars, it's going to have problems; the cars were not designed to have that trailer charge the car. I had originally subscribed to his channel because I am considering buying a Rav4 Prine, and I wanted to see how the car performed, I did not Subscribe to see it turned into some sort of lab experiment; he knows that the problems with the Tesla were due to his fooling with the electrical system, that's why he reacted so strongly to my comment.
@Potato Well, that is a fact, it is his car, and channel; I just made a comment, and he gets all snippy with me and tells me not to watch any more, if he tells too many people that, no one will want to watch, but, I have unsubscribed so I won't know.
My wife had this code come up randomly.. It was extremely cold outside and snowy.. Now the code has gone away on its own. Is it common to have this issue because of snow and ice?
Hey just wanted to follow up on your fix a few months later to see if it worked long term? Picked up an XSE Prime after a nearly 2 year wait and excited to get my hitch and wiring done to start towing our 1977 surfside trailer. Please share any learnings you've had over the last several months. Great channel and keep up the excellent educational videos for us lucky prime owners!
Please I have 2020 Toyota Highlander .. it’s showing a pre - collision light and traction light on the dashboad. Even the cruise doesn’t work. Please how do I fix this??
