"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.
Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.
If you are new to my channel, I strongly recommend reading the description under the “about” tab, which will provide a clearer understanding of what to expect in my films: / solitaryrambler
There is also a short “Introduction to the Solitary Rambler” video, which briefly explains what my films are all about: / solitaryrambler

Nice walk. When I was there it was blowing a hooley, raining most of the way and the reservoirs were drained for service, which probably dates my visit. It's good to see them full now and your video has inspired me to organise a return.

That was a really scenic walk so I'm not surprised it was quite busy. Nice leap over the styal by the way I'm impressed. I was once in an outdoor pursuits group. We went rock climbing at Stanage edge. As i recall, i only managed to get about twenty foot up it before abseiling down. It was that day that i realised rock climbing wasn't for me. I've never done it since. Some beautiful scenery up there but i do worry when i see you stood on the edge of rocks with a drop below. We don't want to lose you unexpectedly. All in all, a really relaxing walk to watch and reservoirs thrown in too. Such a nice place and thank you for sharing your journey with us. Cheers 😁

Thanks Kelly, I've had comments from others about my stuny over that stile! 😁 I've never tried rock climbing, but despite that I've never found any interest in it either. The scenery from Stange is superb isn't it. I am always careful when I'm out and about. I have fallen over several times, but not standing on an edge. Glad you enjoyed watching, thanks again 👍

Ha ha, I thought 'trig banging' what with that music Patrick. It reminded me of some of the parties I've been to over the years - our own in fact. Well, you moved away from it and eventually it faded - faded enough to enjoy some views and a cheese and pickle sandwich. Great table top and spot. I find it amazing that you're so close to Sheffield. It's the great outdoors out there. Always good to hear of the water - to think all our big cities need it. Well, nice to have that gate opened for you at the start. All the best up there. Mark
@solitaryrambler
@solitaryrambler Год назад
Great name Mark, trig banging indeed! 😅 Thankfully my walk did take me away from that noise, but wow it felt quite overpowering at the time. Yeah that was a great lunch spot on Stanage Edge for my cheese and pickle sarnie. It is amazing that the furtherest point on this walk was probably 7 miles or so from Sheffield city centre. There are loads of reservoirs feeding the water to the city, they certainly need it. That was well timed on my part having the farmers open the gate for me on that path 😀 Thanks as always Mark for watching and commenting. All the best to you down there too 👍
@WyeExplorer
@WyeExplorer Год назад
@@solitaryrambler The name is apt for this walk Patrick. Probably no trig banging next time. Good to hear of the lunch spot - we do love em when we get a good one. 7 miles? That's not far at all - it's why Sheffield has such a big outdoor scene/climbing. Well, water is boss eh? We're going to need more in the future. A pleasure as always Patrick. Have a great weekend.

Wow!!! What can I say? Thank you so, so much for the channel shout-out Patrick. To be highlighted by a channel of your size is a great honour. Thank you. I've hiked this in reverse from a car park near to the Stanage Pole dead end and up past the Pole, along the Stanedge Edge and on Burbage Moor to the Ox Stones. When did you film this Patrick? Ox Stones was pretty burned up around there recently. I've also hiked to Rod Moor taking in that permissive path around the Redmires Reservoir. Did you see any Water Voles in the drainage ditch to your right as you hiked anticlockwise? I saw three. They were amazing to watch. Another brilliant vlog Patrick and thank you again for the channel shout-out and the link in the description. I really appreciate it.

Morning Chris, you are very welcome and it was an honour for me to highlight your channel. I filmed this back in April, and I always say the day and date at the start of my films. I also put it in the description below the video. I've visited Redmires once before and have done Stanage several times now, but never been to the Pole or Ox Stones until I filmed this. It was a lovely walk indeed. Don't recall seeing any water voles, but I'm sure I must have passed some during this. Thanks for watching Chris and it was my pleasure regarding the shout out 👍

It's hard to think that you're only just outside Sheffield, and you've got this beautiful Peak District scenery all of a sudden, with the massive millstone grit rocks of Ox Stones and Stanage Edge. Patrick, I thought video was going to be a disaster with that boom bass playing, but ended nicely on top of the rock formations . What brand hiking boots do you use? My favorite is Merrill or keen., Both saved a broken ankle, one time walking to big airplane museum in Duxford near Cambridge fell in hole up my waist got out shaken but unscathed, saw that cheese sarnie ,stated with monotonous boom bass ended with a choir chorus , watch out for those holes and don't go cheap on the hiking boots.

A bit behind with watching your films. So catching up. That was an impressive jump over that stile. I don't think I have achieved that on walks !🙂 I know Stanage well. I'v used the OS maps app but found it took up a lot of memory on mobile but suppose if helpful plotting routes its an asset. Michael prefers the OS Explorer maps to navigate. Pretty sure that was a Music Festival - can be heard for miles around. Agree most unpleasant on the ear.
