Names on a car are VERY important... you heard us accidentally call this vehicle an XT5 in the intro of this video... But you know we meant XT6. Sorry for the confusion guys! Let us know what you think of Caddy's new 3-row crossover below!
Bro, we appreciate your reviews..you're honest about a vehichle's shortcomings in a good way...and your reviews are Motorweek clean and cut! Keep em coming!
@Shina Brown I'm no Lincoln fan but they're owning Cadillac right now with the Navigator. I expect the same with the Aviator vs this thing. I like the front but the profile around the D pillar looks like a last gen Traverse. Plus GM has trash interiors.
forza388 lol Ford has always made the most reliable American vehicles.Aviator is RWD and will most likely ride better than the Cadillac...you just sound fucking dumb
Trenton_ A Why are you so upset? You don’t even realize just how stupid you sound, do you?? The drive (FWD, AWD, 4x4, RWD) doesn’t determine the ride quality of a vehicle. There’s no connection between the jobs of the transmission (driving dynamics) and the suspension (ride quality) systems. So just because the Aviator is a RWD bias crossover doesn’t mean it’ll have a better ride than the XT6. Turns out YOU’RE actually the one that sounds “fxcking dumb”. 🤦♂️
What a let down, the new Aviator crushes this in every aspect. Unfortunately the common buyer won’t realize this is a Traverse with a Cadillac skin for more expansive.... shame Cadillac shame..
It’s very understated. I quite like modern cadillacs and have driven many of them. My favorite is the CT6 as it really does feel like a proper flagship sedan imo. But their design language is that of more reserved luxury. Like Audi of the past.
Tyler Beeson this design is really polarizing to look at. But i find it more easier to look at than most luxury SUVs simply because the design is simplistic. Their interior should be more luxurious and they should stop putting the same interior in each vehicle. But I love being in modern Cadillacs and idk why. I mean I still wouldn’t buy this thing because I’m not into SUVs no how anyway. But still. The aviator, which everybody is comparing it to, looks like an over thought vehicle brought from 2007. The headlights are weird to me, the side profile is odd, and the taillights are even more weird. And the interior (because I have stepped in one) is not all that great. I think it’s just hyped up by Cadillac hating fans. But I just like Cadillac’s simplicity although imma need for them to step up their game.
I completely understand why people would pick the aviator over this, but saying "Cadillac lost their way" is false and simply just bandwagoning. Both xt4 and xt6 have outstanding materials, and with the ct6 v and 2020 escalade coming out it will only bring uprising to the fantastic company
It’s a handsome vehicle but unremarkable. I dont see many people paying the extra $ just to get the cadillac name over a loaded traverse. If youre gonna spend 60-70k on an american luxury suv, lets be honest, it’s gonna be the new aviator unless you live under a rock and havent seen it.
Pretty much a rebadged Chevy. Slap a bow tie on that grill and interior. My bet is on the 450 hp Lincoln Aviator and the the black label Lincolns are game changers on interiors.
Cadillac designers need to be fired. Exteriors look dated interiors look cheap. Same engine as a traverse lol. What happened to Cadillac. Gm as a whole has gone downhill so much. How much longer will Cadillac last with vehicles like this.
You have to see their interior designs in person to fully appreciate them. They are very high quality interiors and quite nice, my only complaint is the piano black plastic of which there is a lot. Their interior styling theme is minimalist.
Mark of Excellence well GM has a lot of untrained trolls who are uneducated on exactly how much the cooperation’s brands have improved overall. They don’t care to learn they just rather troll GM reviews. Lol🤷🏼♂️
considering the money this thing will print for GM, it should have had a stunning interior. i think it looks nice on the outside, but the interior is a major let down. the new kias have a nicer interior. I fully expect them to add the 3.0tt as an option cause they NEED to. i also want to note that GM has two 3.6 engines in production. The chevy traverse and the buick Enclave use the outgoing LFX. All cadillacs and some other GMC/buick products use this new 3.6. which came out fully re designed for 2016.
Couldn't agree more! I thought the exterior is pretty stunning and sharp.. but goodness does the interior fall short in so many ways. Too generic, not enough design, and the tach and mph gauges are pulled straight from the new Blazer. Which look super cheap to begin with
even if they used a larger center stack screen. the CT6 has a 10 inch screen why cant this? Same goes for the gauges. the Cadillac CTS came out in 2013 with an available 12 inch fully reconfigurable Gauge cluster. The interior is a mediocre copy and paste of the XT5. this is no more than an acura MDX competitor forget the germans. the exterior is pretty but they really dropped the ball on everything else and its really sad.
Neither of you guys know what you’re talking about. Firstly, Acura and Cadillac are on two totally different calibers and levels of luxury. Acura can compete with Chevy Premier trims, and mainly competes with Buick. No one’s cross-shopping a Acura with a Cadillac and if they are Cadillac will easily win every time. Secondly, where did you find this gauge cluster inside of the Chevrolet Blazer? Perhaps it’s time to schedule another eye exam! This is the second GM vehicle ever to have this gauge cluster, the Cadillac XT4 being the first. It isn’t pulled straight from the new Blazer. You guys are just running your mouths with no facts. You claim this is a “mediocre copy & paste of the XT5’s interior”. That just tells me you’ve never seen the interior of the Cadillac XT5. The XT5’s gauges look nowhere near as good as these! If this interior isn’t competitive for it’s segment and only a Acura competitor, name a vehicle whose interior is better than the XT6’s that competes with the Germans...I’ll wait.
Okay now I believe GM is hurting for money. Interior looks like they had a budget of 7 or 8 dollars. Looks like mid 2010s. Wouldn't be surprised if it had a 6 disc cd changer in the trunk. Top trim probally has a cassette player with quick rewind.
Don't you have to run premium gas if you have a turbo power plant? Turbo and supercharged engine will cost you more per year in gas. I like the idea of an aspirated V6.
Although I prefer the 2000's vertical and sharp lines of Cadillacs, this is actually really good. I think these Cadillacs will look outstanding in person and especially in different colors/trims. If the 2020 Cadillac Escalade looks similar to this, it will look really good!
I think they did a great job with this! I like the way it looks and I like that they have a V6 in it. I like the new horizontal headlights on this versus the vertical ones Cadillacs been using. I also like the simple trims you can get: Luxury or Sport. Carbon fiber in the sport and wood in the luxury. Plus the sport version has stiffer suspension, better handling, etc. and its not just a sport name with nothing to back it up. Hopefully in the future if the sport version sells well they can put twin turbos on the engine or even a V8. The only thing I saw that i'm not liking is the center stack. it looks like it doesn't have a ton of physical buttons and I thought by now Cadillac has learned people want physical buttons. I was hoping it would be more like the new XT4 with its physical buttons. Hopefully there are some buttons down there by the turn knob that control the radio, climate controls, etc. Also if GM insists on putting that dang auto/start stop on their cars (ugh, not a fan) atleast they put a button to turn it off on this car so i'm glad to see that. All in all I like this XT6! I hope it sells well for them.
Great report. Cant wait for the road test. Is this the engine in the XT5? I have 2016 Escalade and when they give me a loaner I drive XT5 and that engine moans when driving around town.
I think the main issue with the interior is that it is too dark. If it was even just a simple black and white theme it would look a lot better. Maybe the seats can use some type of stitching pattern too. But its not horrible or bad at all and I'm sure it will sell pretty well.
A lot of missed opportunities with the XT6. More of a rush job to compete but not the ground breaking vehicle I expected. Lincoln's Aviator is the winner, no comparison test needed between these two.
The reason they didn't include Super Cruise is two fold. First, it's because this vehicle is going to be a volume-selling car. I don't think the general public is ready for a self driving vehicle, as Tesla has proven. Super Cruise is great for a low volume car like the CT6, where a few people who REALLY want it can have it, but I really don't think the people who are genuinely interested in the XT6 would utilize Super Cruise to justify the engineering costs to include it in the vehicle. Second, it is my understanding that Cadillac is working on a Super Cruise 2.0 that is going to debut on the new Escalade when it is unveiled. It would look a little weird to release it on one 2020 model as brand new and another 2020 model as outdated.
WTF has GM gone completely insane??? Nothing but a GMC Acadia that looks like a Honda Pilot and they want to sell it as Cadillac? This is the modern day Cimarron! And at the same time they axe their flagship CT6! How to ruin a brand! Stupid!
Hey caddy what happened to the hidden nav screen compartment? Definitely was one of the coolest trick you've ever had! Why get rid of it? It was so wow I didn't know it did that!!
Is the new shifter an updated version of the one in the XT5? I mean that as, do you simply go all the way forward for reverse now, or still forward then to the left?
They can't fit any other of GM's powerful engines because its a fwd reskin of the Traverse. Maybe they might add a small hair dryer in the future to make it a weak competitor to the Aviator instead of a complete pathetic competitor.
You just HAD to go there! lol I like the fact that most people don't know he's gay. Being a gay man though, stuff like this pops out at me and I'm on the other side of my device reading and laughing!
Overall, I like it. I prefer the stacked headlights used on most of Cadillac's vehicles. And I dislike the 'T' shaped taillights. Again, I like the vertical look. It would have been nice to drop the taillight into the bumper. I am happy that Cadillac isn't disappearing completely, but I wish that they would focus more on their cars. I'd LOVE a retro inspired model using the 71-73 Deville as inspiration (personally my favorite Caddy of all time). Now for the negative (in my opinion, of course)... the Aviator is more aesthetically pleasing. Lincoln is 'killing it' with recent designs across the board (sedans, suvs, cuvs...). I am not brand loyal so either the Cadillac or the Lincoln could possibly earn my business. Thanks for your review!
This is why GM made a huge mistake replacing their president. Cadillac was doing very well with Johan as the President of Cadillac. The CT6, CTS-V, and XT5 are legendary vehicles. This vehicle was greatly rushed and I am disappointed in Cadillac. They have lost my business.
As am I. Why abandon the successful "Arts & Science" Angular design that was way more exciting than this "safe", boring & less aesthetic one. If the Escalade follows this design scheme they are headed in the wrong direction on the road to redemption.
Overall this definitely speaks Cadillac, and I like the overall design. Simple, modern and looks nice. I think this will sell nicely! That said, the German competition and the new Aviator bring much more wow-factor than this XT6. Cadillac (and GM) make great vehicles, but they are feeling too simple and plain compared to many other cars. 2020 Ford Explorer and the Ram 1500 just have straight up better looking interiors than any GM competition. GM’s biggest competitor here in the US, Ford, is just making vast improvements to all of it’s vehicles to keep them modern. Super Cruze and the rear view mirror camera are all I can find in a Cadillac that make it stand out.
This is they're entry level vehicle, this is something to help get in the market. It would do well because it's simple and easy to maintain nothing fancy just yet. The next model would be light years ahead of this.
They needed an entry and it does fill a gap. But completely agree, it is not as luxurious as Aviator and the power train is beyond disappointing. It does look good from outside.
This is a total snooze fest as far as I'm concerned. In general, Cadillac has been asleep at the wheel, just not competitive globally. I'm pretty much done with GM, at this point.
3:30 the 3.6 engine is smooth, quiet & okay. My biggest concern for Cadillac is pricing. The new "entry level" XT4 typically equipped, prices at $56,000. XT5 at $65,000. The top-line XT6 has to come in around $75,000 or higher. NOW that 3.6 V6 becomes questionable!
I like the front but that’s it. Interior is once again crap. Seriously, fire that designer and the people that approved it. Lackluster engine, cheap plastics. And GM wonders why a lot of their cars didn’t sell. Whoever is the designer for the interiors of GM vehicles has an easy job. Just do the same 💩 they’ve always done.
Elle Richmond exactly, they can come out with amazing concepts but seem afraid to put it into production. Why can’t they understand that the majority of people buy their cars based on what suits their personality but GM wants to make all their vehicles look exactly alike just in a different size. The thing that struck me the most about the new SUV is that it is on the same wheelbase as the XT5. They just made it a little bigger body wise yet it’s still smaller than the Buick Enclave by a lot. That tells me the new Escalade is going to be smaller and they are afraid if they made this new one bigger than it is, they would lose sales on the Escalade. Did you hear they are getting rid of the CTS and ATS and making a new one that looks like a Lexus from the side?
The headlights and taillights can’t seem to make up their mind on going horizontal or vertical. I think there was nothing wrong with the long vertical shape and it could have been taken to such good places in the future.
Where are the professional test drives? What isn't anyone evaluating this car? They are now for sale on dealer lots but no one seems to have driving them? How are people buying these?
Nice looking SUV but Cadillac could have done more to this new offering in order for it to be more appealing to customers. This segment is getting more fierce and competitive and it seems the XT6 is still unbaked.
Nope, it is rising and GM is eating up CUV/SUV sales. Your buddies in Ford can't match GM chassis engineering which churn out lighter and more superior riding SUVS, lol.
@@rhydynamic8306 Everyone leases today, and not many cars are as reliable for the long term anymore, unlike in the past. GM reliability fluctuates based on the power plant. Turbo engines are for most part not known to be reliable in the long term. But, GM's V6/V8 power plants are known to be reliable. To an extent people swap LS3's into their non-GM vehicles. So the consumer has to make informed decisions, I don't think GM reliability is worse than other automakers nowadays. As long as one knows how to do general maintenance.
@@redzoom7857 People who don't cross shop and do research on every option there is in the market are dumb. The Palissade is very similar to the XT6 in terms of luxuries and it's at least 10-15k cheaper, so yeah, just go out there and buy a Caddy just because it's a Caddy
Vlad Saghin No, u are dumb if u think people who are looking to buy a midsize and up luxury SUV cross shop Kia and Hyundai. Lol. Different clientele and 10-15k is not going to move them to go downmarket.
the exterior is so attractive but that mirror needs to change. and i am not a big fan with the interior, some of it looks cheap. the gauges needs to be changed because the font looks really small and it looks squished. that gear shifter needs to change and take away that scroll wheel entirely. dissapointed with the transmission. but to give it an excuse, it’s a new car release so expect it to try and make it a good car and later on reinvent it with better quality materials.
Should've been a Buick...you could do a telluride for less and look just as good if not better..maybe some body bulges might improve the xt6 appeal...just my opinion
So many jealous and angry ford/Lincoln fan girls in the comments. This bad boy will kick the aviators ass up and down the highway in sales just like it's big brother demolishes the navigaytor. Crying about the interior lol
It’s a Honda. Acura at best. Not an insult at all, but a BMW? A Audi? A Mercedes? Nope. Nobody buying any of those is going into a Cadillac showroom unless they have some insane lease deal. Here we are AGAIN. SOS with GM. They don’t learn. This goes all the way back to the STS. Sorry Cadillac I can’t take you seriously when you’re selling restyled Honda Pilots. I’d take a CT6 over this any day too bad it’s going.
Interior just too plain. GM threw away a big fat opportunity to be competitive in this segment right to the doorstep of the Aviator. Outside is ok. They should have dropped the big engine in there, shown a more luxurious interior and called it the launch edition. At least that would have garnered more interest. I mean the non-luxury Palisade/Telluride look far more inviting/special. What a disappointment overall.
Cadillac finally came through with a RR Sport contender in the XT6. Going sell like crazy too! Maybe beat out the RAV 4 in sales numbers? We shall see! Found out it is using the smaller chassis not the bigger one, so it more of a Cadillac Acadia then an Enclave in true size. If you don’t tell, I certainly will not tell either. LOL!
If Caddy had its own HQ away from Chevy then they wouldn't be stuck with GM's nickel and dime approach to everything. GM refuses to stop cutting corners, even when it's for their luxury brand
Johan DN in the background (enters at 35 sec) giving it a good once over. Shaking his head, I'm sure. Nice front end, side view, interior, and engine are a let down. Here's to hoping the V-sport and Platinum models jazz up the interior, engine, and add a nice infotainment system for the rear passengers.
I mean does Cadillac even pay attention to their competition? and its not attractive at all, odd shape and proportions. the aviator blows it out of the water
Would you guys say this brings Cadillac back to the days of being relegated to the status of “Chevy with leather.” Because seeing that interior, that’s all I can see
