Yamaha XTX here in Sweden has 2 inch challenger (had 2.25inch powerclaw last year), mountain spindles and mountain skis, interesting. Wish you could try out Lynx Boondocker RE as someone said earlier, it is really fun both on and off trail.

I can't speak for the cat or the Yamaha; however, I have ridden both the Ski-Doo Backcountry XRS and the Polaris Switchback Assault (both 850s, of course). I can say from experience on riding both on and off-trail, the Ski-Doo is undoubtedly a better sled, but that is just my opinion. In the off-trail category, SnowTrax was spot on. The skidoo gets on edge much easier, keeps the skis up higher, and pulls like a freight train compared to the Polaris Switchback Assault. In terms of on-trail performance, I still believe that skidoo reigns supreme. The ergonomics allow you to lean into corners much more than the Polaris, thus keeping your stability on trail, allowing you to ride faster. On the moguls and whoopties, the Skidoo is still much better. When you are on the Polaris, your ass keeps bouncing off the seat, due to the lack of quality suspension. When I rode the Doo, my butt stayed glued to the seat, and there were no issues with the way it rode, as it was better at soaking up the bumps, in my opinion, than the Polaris. At the end of the day, both sleds are top of the line, and they are exceptional. They both have decent motors, even though the E-Tec is a bit better, as it pulls harder, and both sleds are very fun to ride. I still don't like how SnowTrax claims that the Polaris is the better cross-over, just because it is a "truer" 50/50 sled. I would take the Doo on the trail compared to the Polaris any day, no questions asked. Off trail is no question either, as the Skidoo can hold the sidehill and maneuver much better than the Polaris. When I rode the Polaris, I couldn't even get the sled on edge, even with wrong-foot foward. Is SnowTrax biased? Maybe not, but they definitely can't say that a sled is better than another, just because it matches the definition of a sled class more than the other, such as a 50/50 crossover.

That’s just the way they sit doesn’t changing them tombe even wouldn’t work cuz then one is gonna be way softer than the other and for the ski stance well it’s only able to go up to 40” so can’t even get to 42” like the others

Blitz _ I own that exact sled and in my opinion it makes a huge difference. Snowtrax mentions the importance of suspension setup in many of their videos. The channel continually asks for our feedback so here’s mine: Get that ride height down where it should be and tell us if you still think this is a 70/30 sled.
@blaudick
@blaudick 4 года назад
Not sure a 50/50 is the best crossover sled as it’s ok at both but excels at neither. Most people are going to be doing one thing more than the other and would benefit from a sled that sacrifices a little on one side to give you greatness on the other side. Who wants to take a 42” wide ski stance off trail??
@dwightstorer1533
@dwightstorer1533 4 года назад
I thought the same thing. Thats why cat made the riot x to have 2 60/40 sleds instead of one 50/50. I think the assault and the riot is a 60% trail 40% off trail sled if you ask me. And the ski doo is the only 50/50. Id still take to doo out of all of them.

I really think you understate the backcountry on trails. I honestly find it’s the best all around trail sled I have owned.. that being said a 40-42 stance would have made more sense. Troy Julius I agree with on the low and mid rang being noticeably more with the e tec. The e tec gets better fuel economy and has better oil consumption . It is also a stronger performing engine “quicker” so staying the patriot is the most impressive 2 stroke made is a joke.

No way would I trade this in for an Assault, they are way too tippy and despite what they say, they do not handle better then the Riot on Trail... You can even see in the Video if you look close enough... @@charlespalmerii4299 I'm a Ski-doo guy and I just got to try a Riot a few hours ago. I don't agree with you, I prefer the assault on trail and off trail. I didn't have a complaint about the seat but I'm a stand up rider. The engine felt great. My brother in law had the same complaint about the assault being tippy at first but once you adjust your riding style it's not a problem. Getting the riot on its side to carve felt like it required more effort than the assault does. I haven't ridden the new changes to the Backcountry xrs yet. But between the assault and the Riot I much prefer the assault and have considered ordering one. But I rode the XCR 137 850 and I loved it, if I don't stay on an MXZ next year I'll probably get the XCR. But I have a few sleds I want to test out before I decide

@@YOSHI450R , we can agree to disagree , and that is why I always suggest , and not just snowmobiles , a given individual needs to try out something on there own , and form there own opinion , we can all discuss our experiences and that is a Healthy thing to do ... but we all are wired differently ... I do though have some questions about your statement and your opinion... You did not state how long you have ridden the Polaris for , just the Riot for a few hours ? I own a Skidoo as well and have owned Polaris in the past too... The issue I have with Polaris on the trails is going thru turns , Too much ski lift and unstable feel to it ... and on the Riot I can take turns much Higher speeds no ski lift , and no pushing .. simply amazing for such a long track... Most of the time on the trail, I am feeling like I am on a 137 or less!! never felt that way on an Assault ... Regarding off trail, do to the fact assault is lighter , and if you are use to that, the Riot will make you skill up to carve but once you learn technique to handling the sled .. your good to go... and it is a RIOT!! Now at 875 miles on the sled feeling very confident on it ... I like my Renegade , but there is something about the feel of the Riot that there is no way I would give it up for either Assault or Renegade ...

@@charlespalmerii4299 over the years I have put over 1000 miles on a few different assaults, 600's included. Most of them on a 800. I put 80 miles on the Riot, Trail, off trail and ditch banging, the off trail powder was mild so it wasn't a great rest of it's deep snow performance. Trails had a good tackiness to them so the sled had plenty of bite. I'd like to get more seat time on it and I will at some point this soon. The biggest thing I noticed with the riot was that sitting and standing didn't make much difference compared to the Polaris's and Ski-doos. While I was riding it my thought kept going back to, it'd be a perfect sled for my mom, sister or someone looking at going faster easier, that's not a knock on it. It just felt more forgiving. I know that my sister hated my MXZ because she couldn't keep up with the group as she doesn't stand to get her weight over the front. I think the riot would be a great fit for her. If the seat is comfy for a sit down rider. She had a 600 assault before going to a switchback pro-s last year. My cousins switching to a Riot for next year. He's always been a Cat guy. Did the Assault you rode have larger lugs? All the ones I've been on had the short lugs that could be a difference in our cornering experiences.

Sorry, but in 2000 and before Arctic Cat made what they called a Powder Special, 600EFI, 1.6" lugs, same length track as your Backcountry. You may not like it or its name, but you're just wrong. You're love for Ski Doo is understandable, they are the sled to beat very often. But the are rarely the first, and rarely the best. 2nd place is usual for these guys. My Minnesota boys work hard, bring in the best engineers and since the Prowler 440 came out with AWS and almost 9" in the rear have been the ones to beat. Before the Thundercat we had something called the Wildcat, and it could deal with any sled, except perhaps the Indy 650 when tuned and clutched properly. Minnesota beats Canada is ok I'm saying in nearly every category, except perhaps deep snow. I love ski doos. Still can't believe they put out those early REVs with so little knee from you had to buy pads to not damage your knees. Ski Doo knows better than to try to take on the Thundercat, it's been at the top for so long, it's so far ahead of any ski Doo power wise who cares.

I was thinking about this yesterday... SkiDoo is really missing the mark with the BCX with the narrow front end. I think a Renegade front end, with a disconnectable sway bar and then an adjustable limiter strap on the tunnel, along with a 146 Cmotion rear and Storm 150 track would be a perfect combination to take on the Assault. I'm going to be swapping the skid on my Renegade XRS if I ever have to replace the track and will be doing just that combination.

The Polaris 850 the most impressive 2 stroke made? Please explain how? I’ve talked to multiple dealerships that sell both ski doo and Polaris when I was shopping for a sled. Every time I brought up the 850 and what was better everyone told me hands down the e tec is the way to go. Better fuel economy and oil consumption. I took a Mx and a xcr for a test ride. The patriot motor dose not have what the ski doo 850 has imo. Sorry man I call bs on the best 2 stroke ever comment

Patrice Berard I did drive both. I don’t understand how a motor that gets crappier gas mileage, burns more oil, is not as reliable (acc to the dealers I talked to, they are the ones who work on them) and arguably doesn’t has the power like a e tec ( that was my experience anyway. The doo seemed to have more low and mid range. It pulled harder) the most impressive 2 stroke made. That’s a joke of a statement and a classic example of Fake News. Lol
@patriceberard9914
@patriceberard9914 4 года назад
Njorg Njorg , my Assault 850 have nearly the same gas and oil consumption than my girlfriend 600 etec. For reliability it’s the same and everything is 18 inch behind the bar. Finally for the power delivery, Polaris is better IMO.
@njorgnjorg6057
@njorgnjorg6057 4 года назад
Patrice Berard ya for the power Like I said it’s arguable but nearly the same, like you said, isn’t better. Acc to the dealership that sell both Polaris and doo told me they seen way more problems with the Polaris 850, but what do they know. Lol. So that’s why I can say the e tec is more reliable because I talk to the people who make a living fixing both of them. I don’t know what you getting at with the 18” thing. So like I’ve been saying how can something be nearly the same, like you said, as the competition and be the most impressive ever made.

Chris I never even owned a Polaris, but they’re currently making the best sleds in the industry. It’s no secret. Ski Doo is a little confused right now with their off trail obsession and their saturation of off trail sled models vs trail sleds models really shows. They are leaving the trail market behind and if you don’t see that, I don’t know what to tell you. The BCXRS should have a trail front end. Period. The Freeride is nearly the same sled as the BCX, BCXRS with its narrow front end. However even with a 42” stance it’s not the industry standard anymore.

In scandinavia in my opionion the rank is 1. Skidoo 2. Lynx 3. Arctic Cat 4. Yamaha and 5. Polaris. Personally I like their products, but you hear problems from snowmobilers. Well the other brands have them aswell ofcourse. Its also the cheapest and thats why so many probably buy them and thats also the reason you hear from the problems also quote often. Lynx had problems with belts aswell. On bad thing is that Polaris loses its value like dropping rock when you drive it out of the shop unfortunately. Atleast here. But it gives us poor people the opportunity to drive a new sled also ;)

They only show Luke from the waist up to hide his Polaris boner.. Also....pretty sure AC had a cross over before skidoo did..the crossfire...it’s in the name CROSSfire.. ALSO..what’s the big deal with the seat on the riot? You say it’s a mountain seat..is it too small? the Polaris and skidoo seat looks like a legit half dirt bike seat...I have that seat on my high country and love it. Makes 0 sense.
