What do you use as a medium?! I’ve seen people use inks, watercolor, fluid acrylics, and water based pens then added water to it. Idk if it’s the way I’m doing it but the watercolor doesn’t seem to work and I got some acrylic inks and it seems to be doing better! Your art is super inspiring to me and I hope that one day I can build my portfolio with works similar to yours and become an apprentice at a shop around me
Hi Kat! I'm using liquid watercolors, Dr. Ph. Martin with synthetic brushes! I'm not a fan of Acrylics myself but there are those who does amazing pieces with it. Use what ever works for you and keep perfecting the technique. Hope you reach your goals! Keep pushing it!
Thanks for your videos joe Could you do some videos on how to do the drawing of the designs such as eagles and snakes ect the scales/wings I myself only have markers dont know if you would do anything on them lines to create similar work as the water colour inks thank you for helping us all happy new year
hey i noticed you put on your story that you made the coffee effect with burnt umber ive tried to but havent been able to achieve the color do you have any recommendations on how to get it?
Is there any advice you could give on understanding what colours to use for trad? I've just started doing some designs in the last few months and it feels like colour choice is what's holding me back most, my IG for reference: instagram.com/joegyork/ keep it up, glad you've found enjoyment from making videos :)
Hi Joe! My advice is to look on vintage flash and see how they used the colors. Then you find a green that you like, a yellow, a red and a brown and start experimenting. Hope it helps!
Hi Debby! I have a video on how to use Nibs but I have plans on doing a follow-up based on questions you all have asked. What I found works best for me when using Nibs is a good ink and a pretty smooth paper. I use Talens Indian Ink or W&N Indian Ink and always Hot pressed paper. Have a great 2021! Stay safe!
Your videos was the ones that made be buy all the stuff to try spitshading and liquid water colors instead of markers and I owe you for that. I think both my sheets And tattoos have improved afterwards. Keep it up and I’m looking forward to follow you along into 2021.
Your a huge inspiration for my work and I wouldn’t be where I’m at without stumbling on your channel. Your willingness to share tips & techniques definitely boosted my knowledge and art! Thanks for all you do and always love these vids man! Happy new year I wish the best for you and for family!
Thank you for this. Keep it going, stay safe and healthy. You are an inspiration to many of us with the struggles. Best wishes for you and your family in 2021.
Hello from Norway! I paint tattoo flash myself, but I haven't done too many in the last two years, and I struggle with shading and coloring big/long areas. Any tips?? I use a size 2 and 4 brush, maybe that's why..?
Hi neighbor! 😀 I would definitely go with bigger brushes. Normally I use a size 4 for putting on the ink and a size 6 for shading it out. If I do bigger pieces I need way bigger brushes. Does your paint dry up too fast?
Bigger brush will pick up more ink which will give you more time to work with. A trick that you can try is to add a drop or two of water to your ink. This will give the ink some more time before it dries. Let me know if this helped in any way! I’d love to know!
I appreciate everything that you have done for my art. I hope one day that I will be tattooing and it will be a big thanks to this channel for teaching me how to paint flash. You have made the biggest impact on my art and I cant thank you enough.
Thank you! I have tons of traditional tattoos since i love the style I never want to be a tattoo artist but I do wanna paint flash, your work and content gave me a goal in 2020 and awakened the illustrator within me. Thank you for lighting that spark.
