I recently rode one of these. Suspension was amazing and quite honestly, I didn't even notice the start-stop. Everyone is different (test drive the vehicle!), but for me it wasn't an issue. It's a beautiful vehicle.
Kind of difficult to tell from the video, but is the auto stop start defeatable? I basically turn it off on my Silverado every time I drive simply for the fact of not wanting to replace the starter in the long term.
@@scaf_007vs3 GM has released a button on the 2022 model year that turns off the auto start-stop feature. GM also removed the 2.0l turbo engine from the Terrain. Now it only comes with a 170-175hp 1.5t. That's standard for its class, but it's not as peppy as the 2020 model.
@@hermanwooster8944 I am aware, GM is basically nerfing most of their power trains, which I assume is likely to meet fuel economy regulations that the over reaching government is crippling automakers. I asked the start stop question because there is a used 2020 available so I started to do some research about it.
@@seanmacdonald9808, You slide the phone in the slot, and it charges the phone. Personally, that wireless charger is more for your passenger use as the USB or USB-C port is better suited for the driver because they charge your phone and allow you to use Android Auto or iPhone Car Play to control your phone from the touch screen on the dash.
To override the Start/Stop feature, shift to D, then shift to L9. L9 is the same as D. I always do this on my 2018 Terrain diesel (in my case it's L6 since it has a 1.6L Turbo 6 speed transmission). Great review!
I just bought a 2020 Terrain with the SLT pkg and the 2.0 litre engine. I have only had it a few days but so far I really like it. I was concerned that the engine wouldn’t have enough zip but I’m pleasantly surprised. I traded a 2016 Terrain with the SLT2 pkg with the 3.6 litre engine which was rated at 301 h.p. I was quite happy with the performance with it. I’m still learning things about this new Terrain but I think I’m going to enjoy it.
I bought this Denali Terrain after driving it. It’s Fantastic in every way. (I work where they assemble CRV’s and drive them all day. I would NOT buy a CRV)
i don't agree with his comments that you cannot turn off Auto Stop because you absolutely can disable the Auto Stop by selecting L9 on the transmission. Like most other vehicles with Auto Stop you have to do this every time before you head out anywhere. GREAT SUV for the SSS
I bought a 2020 gmc terrain denali depending on temperature outside when driving. You will hear clicks and vibrating from front to back inside cabin sometimes clicks are from drivers side above you. Sometimes, it's the passengers side. I can't stand it. It's a love-hate relationship. Maybe more cabin insulation would take care of all the clicking and vibrating? I have new tires on and didn't help. It's fun to drive but makes you crazy hearing all these sounds inside, so save your money, don't invest in one.
I wish they'd slow down with all this chrome. I just bought a new GMC Sierra, I went with the AT4 just because I didn't want the chrome....and because the AT4 is badass haha.
I have the 2019 Denali with the same color. It is for sure fast compare to the top sellers. It looks also more unique than others. Start stop is defeatable if you put it into manual mode. Manual mode is the kill switch for the start stop feature
Put the gear selector knobs higher in the dash to right of push button start. I really like the dash arrangement overall. Lots s of bells and whistles and large sliding roof really nice. I have 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe but going to consider GMC on next lease arrangement. I dislike the new model on Santa Fe. Prefer the way GMC puts infotainment screen builtin the dash. Lots of manufacturers just sticking screens on the dash which isn’t builtin. This vehicle has lots of value. I don’t think $45k is bad for Denali package. One could buy used for $30-$35k or less. Don’t know why I don’t see more of these on the road though. Lots of Toyota and Honda vehicles all over. Is it reliability ? Anyone know?
I was ready to buy this car until you mentioned the start stop feature. I also don't like the precision shift and would rather have the standard gear shift.
The auto stop/start only engages when the cabin temperature is optimal, so if you have the AC on in the summer or heat on in the winter it doesn’t come on. Ive had a Terrain for two years now, I hated the auto stop/start for about a week then never noticed it again.
@@Ty-vq1jy I have had my 2018 Terrain Denali since March 2018, and it has been very reliable. The only money I have spent on my Terrain Denali is on Gas and Oli changes.
I own 2018 GMC Terrain. 6 mos after purchase I had to the main computer system replace because of failure, 2 mos later it happen again. There has been several recalls on various parts of the computer system. Now in 2020 my car has been in the shop for about 1 week, because the key fob would not unlock my doors. The receptor was not working, so the replaced, now the fobs will not open the doors, or can even start the car. So have they improve the electronics system?
I really liked your review and have put this vehicle on my short list. I hate the stop/start feature on all vehicles, so was happy to read there is a work around! I don't suppose that these engines have the dual fuel injection systems to prevent the intake valve carbon build up of a direct injection only system??
I have the 2020 Terrain, I think the RAV4 will have a longer lifespan. Acura and Lexus even if it's used is even better.( The Terrain is made in MEXICO- not good )
I hope they can make the grille similar to the new Acadia with the next mce. If so, I might chose this over the equinox. I think a new front end and back lights would fix the design greatly.
They sure are, CRVs look like Easter eggs on wheel. At least the Terrain is a bit squared off and has sort of a big boxy front end and aggressive looking headlights so it doesn’t look totally emasculated.
Gm makes good luxury vehicles... BUT !! They always disappoint . Every vehicle, either have transmission problems, infotainment system problems or paint problems. You'd think for how much money people are asked to pay , they'd take their time perfecting and testing these vehicles out . I refuse to buy from general motors until they start taking this business seriously. They are acting like Walmart, as if they are the only ones in business and people are going to buy from them by default. Nope . We work hard for our money so you'd better treat us right!
They really nurfed this vehicle with that push/pull drive selector. I mean, some other vehicles (Hyundai palisade as an example) have push button, but they are just push buttons, and are in the area where the gear stick used to be. It still takes getting used to, but at least they put it in the same area. Some cars have the rotary knobs as well, and those suck just as much in my opinion, but this system in these GMC’S needs to go asap. I wonder what the longevity of them will be as well. What happens if you pull too hard on reverse as an example and the button falls off? Plus, it is out of reach and just confusing. You should not have to train yourself to have muscle memory when driving a car like this. I have a feeling Chevy will start implementing this soon, right now they still have the stick selector but I’m afraid to see what happens with the 2021 models.
It took less then one day driving a Terrain to get used to the push buttons. Now I find a regular gear shifter weird when ever I drive a car with one. Same with the start/stop. I never notice it. Also, it doesn’t engage the start/stop if the A/C is on or the heat is on. It’s really not an issue. Oh, and the phone slot the reviewer doesn’t seem to know anything about is for wireless charging. Not for keys and change
Also, Acadia is much heavier if you have a Terrian with 2.0 Turbo it moves fast and you don't any more power unless you plan on towing larger items. I am attaching a video from The Fat Lane Truck which shows the power on the Terrain while towing in the iconic "Ike Gauntlet."
Unless you drive a stick-shift/ Manual transmission, you don't need a lever to change gears. I drive to work for an hour each way, and the only time I shift is when I put in drive at the beginning of my commute and when I put it in the park when I arrive at my destination. However, during the hour that I am driving, I use all the available space (side by side cup holders), extra storage, USB and USB-C ports, space for my iPhone 11 to rest, an area for change, a spot for my wallet, etc. Now that's just on the top, there is more space under because there is no lever taking up the whole middle area from top to bottom. Again my front passenger and I use all the center space at least 1/4 of the ride. Also, when I am making u-turns, I keep my finger on the precision shift buttons/ triggers, and I could whip-it much faster. If I had a traditional shift lever, I would have to press the break, Grab the lever, press the button on the lever, push or pull the lever. Now that was just to put it in reverse, not I have to repeat the whole process over and over again until the u-turn is complete. With my precision shift transmission, I keep my hand over the button/ triggers, and I push the brake pedal, and with one finger, I pull to reverse and then push the brake again and with another finger pull to drive, and I'm out, see ya!
Not when you consider all of the incentives you can get from both GM and the dealer. You just gotta do a bit of research before you go in to make the purchase. Not that hard to get $5000 to $8000 (or more) off the MSRP with all of the rebates, incentives ,and "dealer cash" discounts that are available. The key is researching before you go in to buy and then making sure they all get applied to the purchase. Once those are factored in, the depreciation is knocked way down.
This suv is gas eater it gets poor gas mileage I a ram truck 5.7hemi it gets better gas mileage than this suv. I will never buy a four cylinder vehicle. They suck on has. Get a V8 instead.
This car looks so cheap. For the price they are asking there is no heater rear seats. The doors and dash have hard plastic. Just some feed back for you. The way you go on about the Terrain in this video, It seems you were paid to do this.
I wish. Of course I'm going to highlight the good but I mention plenty of bad in the video. Plus I do rank it among its peers on driversonlyrankings.com so check that out.
I saw this at the auto show recently and have test driven two models, definitely does not look or feel cheap. It is not a $50k luxury car, it is an under $40k car and feels and drives very nice and high on my list and has the very rare feature of fold flat passenger seat for carrying 8ft long items.
Hmmm. I’ve driven an SLE trim and it definitely didn’t feel cheap. Also the upper dash and upper portion of all four doors were all soft touch and hard plastic was relegated to the lower areas of the dash and door panels, which was actually nicer than most of it’s competitors. If anything it feels nicer than many other CUVs in it’s class. The fake wood was my only real nitpick with it, it’s definitely not fooling anyone.
Hi Stephen, I have a 2018 Terrain Denali. All the dash plastics are soft-touch; only the lower portion of the dash and doors have hard plastics. Also, my Denali had an MSRP of $43,000, and after all the incentives, the price dropped to about $37,000, and they gave $5000 for my old 2008 Saturn VUE. So I got mine for about $32,000, and it has heated & ventilated leather seats, panoramic sunroof, lane keep-assist, it parks itself, cross-traffic alert with vibrating seats, a Bose premium sound system, factory navigation, WiFi for up to seven devices, 360 degrees HD camera system, factory remote start, a power liftgate, etc... I could go on and on, but I'm too busy enjoying Terrain Denali.
