There can be biiiig discrepancies between prices of items... and thats not just me saying hes got "famous guy" prices. Everyone can get things for different prices depending on where you are/outlet/trade price's etc. Would probably be best to have a gander yourself for local prices as he chucks the mods on,
@redwinemademedoit

@@JD3industries I get that, hence the "there -abouts" in my question.

Hey Ronny - the Hilux doesn't actually have 279mm ground clearance. I believe that was the figure originally quoted by Toyota when it was released in 2016, but they corrected it to 225mm. The Fortuner had a similar (incorrect) figure quoted. Stick a tape measure under the rear diff to check.
@jdexplores01
@jdexplores01 2 года назад
I'm wondering about that too. Toyota Says 310mm on Double Cab 289mm on Extra Cab and about 230mm on Single Cab.

Follow up to the YT commercials on this video. First time viewing it (on mobile on YT official app) and I see 6 yellow timeline indicators where ads will show up. That’s about every 3 minutes on this 18 minute video. I don’t ad block because I want YT to pay the channel. Enjoy the new Hilux. I have a IFS + IRS 2009 Expedition and looking to see how you get on with that suspension.

Hi Ronny, Thankyou so very much for this series of review on the latest Toyota Hilux. I have been undecided for quite a long time between various 4x4 utes for offroad, especially beach driving and camping. After watching each of your very informative vids, I have become very swayed towards this Hilux, and of course: I trust your opinions with the utmost of respect. Looking forward to the vids that follow........... Cheers mate :)

I did exactly the same thing to my HiLux, first 4WD outing and bent the passenger side-step... 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Thank you for the tip on rock sliders, they've now bumped up my priority list... 👍👍👍 FYI: Those interior lights need to be swapped out for LED'S, already swapped mine out, they'll be heaps better for when you're recording at night... 😉😉😉

I've got an Isuzu MU-X and also bent a side step first time out. Replaced with rock sliders before any damage done to sills or doors. Factory side steps are rubbish, same as highway terrain tyres on 18 inch rims.

LEDs are good in the long term as well. if you have a car for enough decades, incandescent interior lights will cook the lenses.

I live in South Africa - a Hilux dominated 4x4 country - the stock Hilux 2.8 which I own is far too low and suspension way to soft - a basic 2 inch/50mm OME or similar suspension upgrade is the definite first upgrade that’s needed - with this upgrade alone you would have sailed over those obstacles - the track you tested would be regarded as a grade two tester track - no big mods needed for that besides a suspension lift - the suspension lift will allow taller tyres to be fitted - with 17 inch rims one can only fit 265/70/65 due to the larger brake calipers (compared to other brands) - with just doing these two mods I’ve easily done grade 3 trails with stock running boards - my next upgrade will be rock sliders as a lot of our grade 3 trails involve a lot of very rocky downhills

Nice Hilux Ronny , can't wait to see the mods . You got a mention on "MATT"S OFF ROAD RECOVERY" today at the end of his video , "RECOVERY RANT" was the name of the vid , he does a lot of recoveries and he reckons TOW BALL recovery was fine in most cases when you have nothing else to use , a lot of others agreed with him . He had a link to your video on the dangers using tow ball recovery and seemed to think it a joke :-)

Hey Ronny. I have the 2017 sr5 lux. I noticed @ 12:23 in your video you have the bar reading in current fuel consumption. With a couple or a few button pushes in the menu, you can actually change the current (L/100) to a decimal reading. You’ll appreciate that much better than what is displayed from standard. It was done by myself over a couple of years ago now, so I can’t really remember how to do it off the top of my head, but it’s fairly straight forward. Try it, you’ll love it I reckon

You actually have a higher payload when the car is tightly sprung (stiff suspension) like in the land cruiser 70series. You can literally load over 950KG in the bed of the double cab and have absolutely no squat at all. Check "Toyota Gibraltar stock Holdings LC 79 double cab" and see them do a 2 minute walk around showing all its specs and them loading a 930kg pallet in the back

Great review Ronny. The high beams are LED mate, not HID. An easy way to know if a new vehicle has HID lights is if it has headlight washers. A new vehicle MUST have headlight washers if it comes factory with HID lights. A little tip for ya mate from a Toyota mechanic. AND the headlights on the SR5 are auto-levelling LED lights too. Look at your left leaf spring and you'll see the auto-levelling sensor which measures load in the tub and adjusts the headlights according to vehicle pitch angle.

Ronny I have noticed you mention a couple times over the past couple videos regarding this vehicle that you've been thrashing it a bit - what are your thoughts on 'breaking in' engines on new cars? I've been told before that not taking revs over 3000-3500 for the first 3000-5000kms can be beneficial for the long term life of the motor. Is there any truth to this? Can thrashing a brand new engine have adverse impacts on the longevity or performance of the motor? Great videos in any case. Very jealous of a new car owner as someone who has never owned a vehicle from new. Enjoy.

Does anybody know what suspension the stock Hilux has in Australia? For example in Europe it's possible to get certain trims with "standard" suspension and certain trims with "Heavy Duty" suspension. Doesn't seem to be the case in Australia. Not sure what's the difference, and dealers comments are mostly fluff. Very difficult to Google as all results are mostly for aftermarket suspension sites.

i am considering buying a pdp breather kit. Just wondering what difference is between them and the cheaper ones on ebay. i know you get what you pay for but what extra do you get for 120 buck more

I put a set of southern cross rock sliders on my 2017 Hilux and they are a great product and Brown Davis makes a great 30 micron pre filter kit with a mount that sits next to air box I happy with both mods

I would say 800-900km is realistic with on road use. I changed my stock all season tires against the Michelin latitude cross and it used about 0.3-0.5 more fuel, but I total for my usage there are great (primary on road, but a lot of total wrecked roads)

The new headlights look quite similar to the Ranger. With a smaller front grill and de-badging the Toyota emblem, the Hilux looks Ranger-ish.

You’re not wrong there. RU-vid videos are out of control recently. I usually watch the ads to support the creators but the first ad was 4 mins long! It’s apparently nothing to do with the creators ad settings, just RU-vid.

Awesome Truck, awesome video. I have a question... When you activate the rear diff locker, the traction control for the front tires is still working?

I think swapping the tires and keeping the rest fully stock would be acceptable to me, someone looking for a full stock hard review. After a few weeks or so, so you can really tell us when and where the tire upgrade will actually help.

They didn't just give it a face lift, they've put a bigger bottom end in the motor, more cooling journal's to the head and apparently fixed the dpf issues

Hi, Ronny. Besides Toyota, why dont you buy chevy silverado 1500 for offroading? Ignore the price of the vehicle, i do know its expensive. Thanks.

It's great to see you finding the constraints of a stock vehicle before modifying. The 4x4 community has gone a bit astray with the modding culture. You suggest new tyres are high on the list. I didn't see the tyres being a problem in the portion of the video showing off-road action. Traction didn't seem to be the constraint, more so ground clearance and angles. Actually I'd suggest tread pattern doesn't really matter for sand, dirt and gravel. In fact I think a lower void ratio tread pattern is superior in every application except mud. I'd like to see the highway terrains pushed harder before being replaced. Other benefits of stock vehicles include better reliability, lower fuel consumption and lower capital cost. All these advantages means more time exploring the outback and less time working in the rat race paying for stuff you don't need.

outback joe I totally agree. I used to have a hybrid, Cooper Discoverer STT. Now I have HT m+s, Bridgestone Dueller ... something. As you a say they are great on nearly every surface, but mud and clay. I just got back from a really muddy tour where there also participated military vehicles with 6x6, diff locks on all three axels, portals and MT tires. I can ensure you that they also got stuck by bellying. Of course there were some parts where they just rolled thru and I struggled. But you be surprised how few times over three days that actually happened. I think it was only twice or three times.

Don't forget some recovery points! I'm sure you got the tow package so the rear is easy enough but I'd say the front recovery point should be amongst the 1st mods before a trip. All-Weather Mats Rear Recovery Point UHF Handheld Rock Sliders Off-Road Tires Snatch Strap Tire Puncture Kit Front Recovery Point (rated) 10l Water
