2020 Honda Jazz Crosstar Review | Is Honda Trying Too Hard?
It's fair to say that the Honda Jazz has a stereotype for being very popular amongst the older generation of drivers. In fact, Honda themselves said in 2015 that the average Honda Jazz driver was 61, so it's not exactly a car for spring chickens.
It looks as if Honda is trying to change the demographic with the 2020 Honda Jazz Crosstar, though, as the design approach has been and I quote, "youthful". This means you get a Honda Jazz that has SUV styling, a ride height that has been raised by 30mm, a premium 8-speaker sound system, and you even get water repellent fabric seats as well.
Powering this jacked-up supermini is a hybrid system that consists of a naturally aspirated 1.5 litre petrol engine as well as two electric motors. The combined effort offers 109hp, along with 253Nm of torque. 0-62 is done with in 9.9 seconds, and the top speed is 107mph.
There's a good chance you're more concerned about fuel economy than performance, though, and with that in mind, the 2020 Honda Jazz Crosstar is able to offer a very respectable 58.9mpg on a combined run, and it emits 110g/km of CO2.
The car will cost you £22,635, offering standard features such as 16” alloys, Crosstar-specific styling, 30mm raised ride height, two tone paint, water repellent fabric seats, keyless entry, heated front seats, climate control, 9” Honda Connect system, DAB radio, Bluetooth, smartphone connectivity, navigation, front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera, and 8 speaker sound system.
There's also safety kit including 7 air bags, traffic sign recognition, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, speed limiter, low speed following, adaptive cruise control, and SOS function.

🤣 I don't think it's a young thrusting person's car, just a sensible maybe mature person who also wants a relaxing drive. That means any age. It's fine on the motorway on country roads and great in town. I'm averaging 65.5 MPG in my Crosstar. Fuel economy is better than the official figures. Looks wise I love it, friendlier looking than the previous version, great seats and interior controls. The SUV look is fashionable and higher height gives a better view. Engine noise only noticeable because ev mode is so quiet 🤫 . Relax guys 😀

Well,I am 71 and have driven HGV class1 and many other cars since I was 17(21 for HGV) from mini coopers Cortina Gt’s Nissan Skylines ,Civics,,CRV’s to name a few.and as a dog owner I think Honda have made the perfect car for people of all ages excepting petrol heads and they mod everything anyway.It’s roomy it looks good it’s quiet and very economical and as eco friendly as you can get without going full electric which I can’t because I can’t plug it in to charge it and facilities are just not available at present.I personally love it and am getting above the mpg that Honda say.it’s a little Tardis ,I am 6ft & 17 stone and I have bags of room and comfort for me and my passengers.Well done Honda,oh and the criticism of the loud engine noise when foot goes flat to the floor? How often is that going to happen to make it worth complaining.when driven with a light right foot it is as smooth as silk.

I do have a small problem with almost all Jazz reviews ; most reviewers comment that the performance is not 'spectacular', 109 hp and 9+ something accelaration 0-62 mph... Nevertheless, such comment is actually NONSENSE. First of all, the car is essentially driven by its electric motor and you do NOT compare horsepower between electric and conventional motors, you also have to compare torgue and when it comes to torgue electric motors are by far better... To be more practical, the normal Jazz (not the Crosstar version which understandable has a little worse performanced levels) has a claimed accelaration of 9.4 secs (which has been tested to be actually better, around 9 secs!) and then the real question is which competitor is faster? Hyundai i20 is above 10 secs even on 120 hps version; Fiesta is close to 9 only in upscaled boosted versions; the (smaller in size) Yaris comes at best around 9.7 secs... All in all, the Jazz beats almost all , so why understating its performance levels? It is not set up for sport driving, no question about it, but the car is both quick and economical (it is probably the only car that all reviewers have stated that its actual fuel consumption in real life is consistent with the number stated by the manufacturer... in ALL competitors -Yaris Hybrid excluded- when the manufacturer says eg 5 liters per 100 kms -sorry, I am not used to mpg...- you can BET that in actual driving it would be around 7...). Otherwise, good review mate!

I share your nan's opinion (since I'm probably a similar age, hardly surprising), but I've had three Jazzes, and never had a failure, and the reliability is amazing. I'm still trying to wear out my Mk2 so I can buy a Mk4!!!

I love the calm, spacious feeling interior..... its got a John Lewis vibe 😉. At 4”11 I’d be grateful for the extra ride height. Also, speed bumps are everywhere nowadays so hopeful the extra 30mm will generate a smoother ride.

It's getting so loud as the ice is always running at optimal speed. Not optimal for the desired speed of the car but optimal for efficiency in getting energy out of the fuel as the extra energy is being used to recharge the battery.

The regular Jazz has a darker pleather/cloth option. The crosstar water-repellant seating is always that light gray though... probably easy to brush off tho, because of the texture of the cloth.

Hmm , yep l can see where you’re going with the older driver stuff , the jazz has always been known for that , and l guess at the ripe age of 60 l fall into that category lol , no offence taken here with the oldies jokes either , the points on the car are worth noting too but l have to say l like the look of this version to the standard one , l like to see a grill on a car at the front , plus the beefed up sound system is something l like , l’m not quite into the Richard clayderman or Daniel o donnel class yet ( thank god ) . The gearbox is not good at hard acceleration is it , bloody hell it winds up for ever but l can live with that , overall l think you’re right , reasonably refined around towns etc but on the open road you’re gonna have to let the jazz accelerate gently rather than putting your foot down . Great review and nice to see someone driving it in a normal environment rather than on a test track . Good on you .

Hi Robbie, thanks for watching, and thanks for the feedback. I meant no harm by the gags, but some took offence, which surprises me as it's often my generation (Millennials) that are deemed to be the ones too sensitive/easily offended. Oh well, you can't please everyone!
@robbief2822
@robbief2822 3 года назад
@@CarObsession haha yes that’s very true , it was quite obvious the comments were in fun but the fact is that the jazz has always been favoured by the older generations as the car isn’t fashionable for youngsters , mild styling to say the least and built more for comfort and practicality than for its looks or performance . I’ve had the power cars in my time and currently have the Suzuki swift 1.4 turbo hybrid ( mild ) and that thing goes like the proverbial off a shovel but it’s a tad small and the only reason for looking at the jazz , along with it being a full hybrid car . I only looked at reviews in the last couple of days as l wasn’t going to change the suzi , it’s due it’s first service this October and whilst that is being done we will have a test drive in the crosstar they have as a demonstrator , if it lives up to expectations we will likely change over , but if not then we will stick with the suzi as our final brand new car , your review gave me plenty to look out for but l like the look of the cabin , so much space . The engine spinning up under hard acceleration is noisy but we have had the original jazz and we bought the first jazz third generation to be on the road , preordered it 4 months before it’s release date and had it 3 weeks before the official release , it was a big step up from the first two iterations but it was dark in the cabin and front visibility was ok but not brilliant so the fourth hybrid version looks to have solved all that . Thanks for the review even though l am a year late to this party lol .

Hi from steadily virus infected Japan! I very much enjoyed your humorous video. I m thinking of getting rid of my Citroen C3 which my wife won’t ( can’t) drive and runs on high octane petrol. We need a car which both of us can drive. Over 60 , the average age of this car? Wow ! We are both over 65, it seems the right choice. There is a Luxe version in Japan. Still not sure which one will be our new family member The new designed Mitsubishi Mirage, the Yaris or this one. What do you suggest ? No Ford Fiesta in Japan.... Btw. Patsy and the baby are fine?

The Clio and Ibiza do have SUV versions technically. The Captur and Arona.
@CarObsession
@CarObsession 3 года назад
True, but they are technically different cars (sorry, if that sounds sarcastic to read, it really isn't meant to). They are of course on the same platform, but they are a different model, not like a Fiesta Active is to a standard Fiesta if that makes sense? Thanks for watching.

Wow Nick, I think you may have taken too much offense to this... The jokes were made in jest and they were tongue in cheek. Lighten up a little, life's too short to be so serious. I thank you watching, and for commenting, but please understand I'm not intentionally trying to upset anyone, it's merely a bit of humour, just a bit of entertainment.

it's a good car. But the Crosstar is just a marketing exercise.
@oddities-whatnot
@oddities-whatnot 3 года назад
And increasingly becoming so in the motor industry. Manufacturers are being clever by making cars like this. The buying public are faced with an ever increasing number of makes and models but they end up being on PCP deals and traded in after just a couple of years (half the normal term of 48 months) because there is another trendy "must have" model on the market. Cars are becoming like clothes. People want to change them frequently, and this throwaway culture is reflected in the way cars are now being designed and marketed. So much for helping the environment, but it keeps people in jobs by continuing to churn out model after model, year after year. Ive said this on another video but its sad how we create something people don't need, just to keep people in jobs. We live in a wasteful society. My next car hopefully will be a long term car. Probably not that economical but something that does everything I reckon I will need a car for, no matter the lifestyle. In the long term, it works out cheaper by not keep changing it, plus it saves on raw materials, energy consumption and transport costs etc by not keep ordering new cars every two or three years. For the record, my choice is Subaru Forester (up to 19 MY, not the joke of a hybrid), Outback, Mitsubishi Shogun Sport or if I can run to it, Toyota Land Cruiser.

Oh dear. This is the first time ive seen this. Reminds me of that awful Rover Streetwise from many years ago, based on the 200 model with jacked up suspension and plastic body protection. Bloody awful car. Not AWD, totally pointless. As for this Jazz being a crossover, it really isn't for the simple reason the word "crossover" is a meaningless label created by the industry to allow manufacturers to make cars with this "off road" look, and advertise them as some kind of go anywhere sports utility vehicle.Its all marketing fluff and pretentious garbage. If a driver needs the plastic arches to protect the car when on the road, the driver should retake their test ! Pronto. Why do so many cars today need unnecessary plastic exterior trims and fake exhaust tips in the bumpers etc ? Are buyers that gullible that they fall for style over substance so easily ? Another example is the new Audi A1. Look at the rear bumper, its a confusing mess of a design, sunken sections at either side, slotted looking bits, it represents nothing but draws attention to itself for being damn ugly. The bumper on the last model was so much classier as it was a much simpler, cleaner looking design. Why make something so over styled but serve no purpose in doing so ? Thats the problem with an increasing number of cars today. An insult to our intelligence.
