I am definitely planning on getting one of these new 2020 iMacs but i'm not so sure on whether to get the standard glass option or the Nano-texture glass option... does the Nano-texture glass make the display less sharp compared to the standard glass? whats your opinion and which one would you get or prefer?
I haven’t use the matte one myself and I actually don’t mind the standard “glossy” one on iMacs, because unlike macbooks the screen can always be in max brightness, you touch it less (you don’t have to open the iMac) and is indoor, so the reflections shouldn’t be a problem, and some shades on the windows will be generally cheaper than the 500$ tag of the nano-texture ;> As of being less sharp, I didn’t use it myself, but heard from friends that this is indeed the case. Not very strong, but jarring for something you have to pay for, and what may not be even needed. General consensus is to save tha money and spend it on storage (the RAM is indeed user upgradable and it’s super easy and cheap, so I recommend that ;)) since you can’t upgrade the ssd later
I bought it for my university, because I find it better to read all the books and materials on, compared to MacBook, and I also use it to edit videos in LumaFusion. I like it in general because it is very fast and simple (which may be downside for many, as there are often things you can’t do on iPad, while you can easily do on any computer) and since I don’t need any particular program for work or studying I can just enjoy extra portability and convenience. Oh, and I also love to draw, so I obviously have procreate and Apple Pencil and this might have been the final deciding factor for me :D
Funny how folks talk about the iMac design. Not many machines look better, if any. How it performs is the focus. That’s like someone saying you wear an old style of eyeglass frames. You should wear a more modern pair. Shrug. As long as the glasses work right? The only real requested change of the iMac body is probably the bezel size. Other than that, it’s still a killer machine.
Hmm, yeah, the prime focus should be the performance, but the design is still important, for different reasons though. I think how Apple creates its designs is making an impact on the whole industry, how the electronic devices look besides Apple. And it is a staple, it is making a mark, it will be recognized as a part of our times, the same way we know something from the ‘70 or the ‘80 is from that time. So yeah, performance is the most important thing, but yeah, buy the modern looking glasses, don’t stick with a monocle, even if it workes just fine.
I helowce its worth it because the 5700 XT is being recommended for higher resolutions (and 5k is pretty high 😬) and it is already noticeable faster than regular 5700 so it will definitely future proof the Mac. Although those are mainly gaming related opinions ;p I don’t know how it performs with work like rendering and video editing, but if Apple sells it they will take care of support and drivers for necessary programs. Only downside is that Apple charges 300$ for this upgrade, but if you are planing on using this iMac for longer than 2 years I’d say go for it ;)
Well with the storage I would go for 512 myself because of my limited budget, but 1TB is generally believed to be the sweet spot. As for the processor both are good but the upgrade very depends on what you want to do on it. I think you will be best checking “2020 iMac Buyers Guide” from Max Tech as it is very informative video, where he honestly says what’s worth and what’s not (and for whom) :)
