Thanks Chris! I really appreciate all the work you and your crew did on my Katana, it sounds amazing and I'll be riding it in a couple hours when I get back home. Thanks again for all the hospitality!
@@cycletron I’m down in southeast Kansas. Been up there quite a bit to street races and have a blast when I do. Ride up 2 hours and race on the bike. It’s a long straight highway there lmao
where i live out in the country a silent bike is your best bet for evading police.(noise is a police magnet) you can hear the loud bikes for miles in any direction & fairly easy to track what road your on.whether they can catch you is a different story.why give away your position to the enemy thru unneeded noise.who will most likely revoke your liscence if he does catch you.
Definitely some audio issues here Chris! We are in a fish bowl! As far as the content; I LOVE the new Katana! Honestly it seems very similar to my Bandit 1250S (other than the exhaust servo) it has many of the same restrictions and fixes. The lighter weight and updated suspension probably give it considerable edge, it's really only slightly down on torque in comparison but then nearly 30HP ahead. As far as touring goes, it just needs a windscreen or you'll be blown around a lot. I'd really like to get my hands on one!
My friend has a bandit 1250 and I've ridden his bike several times the Handling is leaps and bounds better on the Katana being a GSXR frame and swing arm. And when we raced I was able to pull away pretty good even with a passenger. I like the bandit alot tho great bike smooth good highway gearing comfortable and torqey
Sound quality on the bikes is good but your voice and overall sound while talking sounds a little tin can like. Hard to describe but could tell right away when the video started. Love watching these, quality is still good just letting you know
I just sold my '88 Katana 1100 a few months ago, and love the looks of the new ones. My preference is the black with red, and if I was a young guy I might have one, but the small fuel capacity would no doubt bug me after a while. Being 70 I find that exhaust a bit too loud, but like the system over the looks of the stock one.
@@Busafied They were amazing bikes. Mine also had the Suzuki/Krauser hard luggage which was a pretty rare option. Only sold it because the wife and I are retiring to our condo in the Philippines a bit more than a month from now.
A Katana was my first bike many years ago. Loved that thing, but one day at a biker bbq someone told me it was a girls bike lol. I was heart broken. Sold it a year later for a gsxr. I like these new Katana's and didn't even know they still made that model.
They stopped making the Katana in the early 2000's. The second generation katana was actually quite a different bike than the initial Katana Gsx1100. The new katana was released in 2020 in the US, probably earlier in EU/UK. Seems like they are hit and miss with them TBH. They have a 2020, but I've never seen a 2021, 2022, or 2023 in the states. The current 2024 edition is actually the 2023 European spec and from what I gather is limited production. Brand new it retails around $14k. I remember the type Katana you had man. I'll be honest with you and in my opinion it was a soft GSXR, detuned and rounded edges. That was a pretty crappy thing for that dude to say, must be insecure 😅😅
@@BreakStuffClub yuuuppppp I currently have a cbr650r but this just feels a little more comfortable and unless I go for a straight up touring machine, I need something like my bike or naked like this because I ride so much
My very first motorcycle was a 1993 katana 600 red for $3,000. It was a great beginner bike for me! Moved on to an 06 cbr600rr and now 07 gsxr750. Love the videos thank you for the effort and insight!!
There's a couple problems with the title. No naked bikes are great sport bikes due to wind bashing you around past 130kph. (A sport rider is often well over this) The second problem re touring on this bike is the 12L fuel tank... The gsxs1000 has a 17L tank as most 1000s do. I found 200kms was really as good as I got on the open road. Great bike to ride with a very usable motor etc. I always found the throttle to be very smooth at all rpm coming on and off the throttle. I only mentioned that due to what was in this video.
I had a feeling that you would have dealt with the Katana, that's great news. I'm going to pick up a 24' and basically fix it just like this. Full exhaust, air box/Filter and ECU. Damn son, that Katana sounds mad as hell!!! Looking forward to this! I sold my last liter bike about 5 years ago and gave up riding the big nakeds. The Katana has been on my Radar as well as the GSXS 1K for a couple years, and I'm ready to get ready for spring. I might just ride up there, or trailer the bike maybe. I'm down in GA, so not far.
Hi Chris, that Katana looks pretty good. I had one of the first 1100cc Katan's when they first came out. Dragged it stock standard and did a 9:94. I smashed my legs up in a big off and now ride a Boulevard as my legs don't bend enough to get on sports bikes. But do you have a flash card I can buy for the Boulevard as the air filter and exhaust has been changed. It's doing the full on full off stuff. I saw you were doing a Boulevard awhile ago and solved that problem. Please can you send me how to get and pay for the flash card or whatever it's called. Thank you Chris.
There is no way a stock 1100 Katana from the early 1980’s would ever do a sub 10 second pass standard, not even with Chris Moore riding it. They are a cool old school bike though, and worth a lot now.
Love it, i just purchased the same Bike. I want to set an appt up with you to bring my bike down from jersey todo the same. Will be reaching out soon. Keep up the great work
the baseline pull should have been done with the stock exhaust in my opinion for those people who would get an aftermarket exhaust to improve the bike. Like this, it is for the people who get the exhaust for the sound no matter what the improvement to stock would be, mainly just to have the bike running properly with the new blink. I never see a dyno of the stock exhaust as baseline pull, mostly explained with time constrains. Is it possible that the gains would not be that dramatic?
Can't stop my new katana from wheel standing and shredding the rear tyre when cold not sure it needs more balls than stock, tail tidy got rid of a few kgs and looks better, cheers.
Definitely Like the Newer Kat, I still have my 89 Black Katana 1100. I Just picked up a new Gen3 Busa, 2022 Silver/Red a few weeks ago, did the first service yesterday. Owning a few Busas including my Gen 1 Turbo busa, now I see someone that can do some work on mine soon. Keep up the Good Content, SC isn't too far from Dallas Texas. ;) Boost! It's whats up...
Cool bike, but that was one of the things that held me off seriously looking at one. For open road riding, I think you should have at least a 250km range. I see Aprilia have made the same mistake with the new Tuono.
Is there anything worth doing to the ECU without getting a new exhaust? Ive spoken to shops before but they have not made me confident that they know what they are talking about. Seeing you show literally what is being done, particularly to this bike gives me a lot of confidence I can trust your answer. I cannot justify a brand new exhaust or trip from AZ right now but would love less harsh engine braking etc.
Hey bro everything is up 100% top quality all round and a very good Investment .just keep them great works coming . always love your vedios even when I couldn't hear what you was saying most of the time.but now bro up up up up ❤️💯👌✊💪⛽
The only thing I have done to my 2020 so far is remove the elf ears turn signals and get some flat ones that blend in so much more. I just wish I could get a more comfortable seat for it.
Roughly the same amount of hp as mt10, interesting. I just picked up a mt10 a couple weeks ago, they are fun but what gas GUZZLING pigs. I'll bet anything this zuk gets 10-15mpg better than mt10. Great content as always Chris 👏
They do. MT about 30-32 mpg, this about 41 mpg or better. Similar power. Same story with a V4 engine or a inline-4-crossplane. There's something about the uneven firing interval 4-bangers that suck gas. I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact the intake pulse waves pounding back and forth in the airbox on the uneven firing engines are making intake air flow much less efficient for the same horsepower output. But that's a theory based on the medium grade knowledge I have of engines. I know the whole point of uneven firing intervals is to change the traction dynamic at the wheel (MotoGP). The difference between conventional even firing and these crossplane (inline or V, doesn't matter) engines is the torque composite output between combustion and inertia intervals of the crankshaft.
Before you mentioned the new camera/mic I noticed at the beginning that it kinda sounds like your talking through a coffee can, or possibly a mono sound.I'm listening on a very high end home theater/quadraphonic system so these things are very noticeable.
Comment on video/audio quality: There is some room reflection in the audio, it's not a huge deal but maybe a lav mic might isolate your voice a bit better and get less of that echo off the walls, just had a little google and rode make a "RODE wireless go 2", so you could wear a lav mic that is connected to the gopro wirelessly and doing it like that would be easier than having to sync audio from a separate device for every video, should come out of the camera just the same, video with audio.
Absolutely agree mate. I bought the Rode Wireless Go 2 just recently because audio is so important. The camera's exposure, contrast and sharpness was good but the built in mic not good.
Mate your new mic set up is like your talking down a pringles tube and the camera I preferred the old one. What did you use before I need that set up lol.
The katana looks pretty cool but it's a model that I don't really understand since Suzuki also has the gsxf line up. Seems way to similar. Vortex aluminium sprocket, why? The weight savings is not worth the short life span to me.they dont last as long as a rear tire.
Not interested in making noise as i use this bike on daily basis/ have neighbours/ am mature rider. However removing certain factory limitations whilst keeping the stock cat in the pipe might be good
I have an early Gen 3. Yes, it is a great sports-tourer. Alas, it just doesn't have the same potential for speed and power. The mildly tuned engine (relativity low compression pistons and mild cams) is designed to run on 87 octane fuel. It will also run quite happily on the 85 octane gas you find quite often when you are off the beaten path Out West (like Colorado and Wyoming). The engine is not peaky at all. It makes over 80 lb-ft of torque from 3500 rpm to 8000 rpm. If someone made them, you could fit higher compression pistons, hotter cams, and a better flowing exhaust; but the big limitation to getting more power out of the engine is, I think, the airbox. The airbox shares the under-seat space with the ABS. There is just not a lot of room under there.
I love the new Katana and waiting to see the latest model with all the updates the GSXS 1000 got. Love Brock’s exhaust but I think that one is way too loud. Needs a longer can to take it down a bit and it may even pick up more power
I am really curious what Aprilia does with their ECU's. I have a Aprilia race flash on my RSV4, but I question how much de-tune they have baked into that? Time to get an RSV4 on the dyno! WAY overdue....come on!
@@ApeRSV4 the ECUs can only be cracked with a few options. Moore uses a Woolich program to tune. That's not compatible with Aprilias. Need UpMap or OpenFlash Tablet to do RSV4 / Tuonos. That's one reason I sold my Tuono Factory in July, and put a deposit down on a 2023 Busa. There is just not enough Aprilia support in the U.S. Midwest. Had to drive 2 hours to another state to buy the 2020 I had.
This is the first I've seen of the new gen Katanas. It's definitely a massive improvement over the old ones...unlike the audio quality of your new camera. Video quality looks fine except maybe when you showed they dyno tv, it seemed to struggle more with the lcd tv. But maybe I only noticed it more because you mentioned the new camera so I was looking for stuff like that, but audio was definitely not as good.
@@TeamMooreMafia There seems to be a video quality downgrade as well, something in the settings as this video looked grainy in comparison to your previous GoPro setup.
@earlgunman I don't think it was just you. I noticed right away that it was struggling with the Dyno TV as well. Definitely was struggling with that view.
The new camera doesn't seem like a good mic. I mostly listen to your videos while I do things, I figured you were using your phone for this video until you said something.
I've liked the look since they released it. I quickly went looking for specifications and my momentum hit a brick wall when I read "3.2 gallons" under fuel capacity. I hated the 3.7 gallon on Yamaha's MT line, and this is WORSE. "THE BEST Sport Touring Bike" Not unless you pull a fuel cart behind you. I guess Suzuki felt the sting with angry customers and put a 5-gallon tank on the updated GSX-S1000.
Yeah the moment I saw how small the fuel tank was much like the FTR1200 I was suddenly like "Nope" lol. All the good riding for me requires a little bit of a trip and range anxiety sucks.
Just finished the video. Update… I know you were rushed for time, but how could you not show us the airbox after you took out that plate? Also, was it absolutely mandatory to pull the radiator out of the way to get the Brocks exhaust system on? And I don't believe you really showed us the final numbers. I mean you did, but there was no real commenting on it. Just a thumbs up. Anyway, love the bike, video is pretty good and thanks for the content. I'd really like to know if it's mandatory to pull that radiator out of the way?
Hi. That Katana sounds monsterish ! I wonder why it has all those throttle restrictions? Isnt that on purpose? For exaple to limit some vibrations and save the crankshaft? Or just some eco shit? 😅
Been a Suzuki fan my whole life! Always had gixxer 1000 but decided to go with a s1000rr to setup and want it tuned by the best! Chris moore why do you not tune the s1000rr ? Makes me regret getting one knowing you don’t even tune the ecu lol
something that I always think about when I see tunings like this. It looks amazing, free extra power seemingly out of nowhere... but is it? will the fuel consumption increase after the tune? will the engine life (or other parts) be shorter? And those restrictions, I doubt the engineers just put them there willy nilly. Was it for emission purposes ? to protect some components maybe ? I am not bashing on tuning here, just trying to understand. And this might be especially valid for suzuki since they are known for polishing to annoyance their products.
The majority of restrictions are for emissions, noise and to a lesser degree, fuel economy. You are not getting free power from nowhere. It's power that was already there, but restricted by air flow and factory ECU settings.
Curious to see what you could do with my 2020 triumph rocket 3. I’ve been told numerous things from other rocket owners as far as a simple ecu flash really waking the bike up
