The KTM 1290 Super Duke R has always been a sledgehammer of a motorcycle. While the blunt instrument approach to producing power has its fans, there is something to be said about using a little finesse when dishing out a gut punch. With the development of the 2020 model, which KTM has dubbed “The Beast 3.0,” the focus was on refining the techniques the Super Duke R uses as it brutalizes the laws of physics. And I think that it will produce even bigger smiles on the hearty souls who choose this mount to beat their local tarmac into submission.

Agree spring coming up, talking to my girlfriend about getting a new bike just for city riding I kept telling her. My other bike 2008 ZX-14 turbocharged, everything done to it. No electronics I keep telling her, and getting older we need safety, fear always works, lol. 🇨🇦

He just blabbed for 10 min saying what KTM has written on their website and added "and it makes a big difference" "and it's really quite noticeable".... 44Teeth is way better.

Beast of a bike. I have to say I like the 790 a bit more for being a little bit more balanced and more reasonably priced. But the 1290 looks a hell of a lot of fun.

It's time for new bike got 2008 ZX-14 turbocharged fully done at just over 530 wet, it's my touring bike. Now I need something for the city streets and no more than 4 hours on the saddle. In the almost 40 year's of street riding I've never seen so many great bikes, from each manufacturer's. Look at the 1000cc class, bikes that no amount of money could be built 8 year's ago for WSB racing there's just no dogs. It's between KTM, or the street fighter ZH2, Tuano factory,and the mighty Vmax, it's that Damm shaft drive I don't like also no electronics. Riding my 14 at 268 hp and 154 torque with not electronics is one unforgettable experience faster that my friends H2 I weight 60+ pounds more than him.

One of the few engines that give both horsepower and torque all below 9500 rpm! Perfect for the street. Especially at only 470 pounds. Track focused bikes need that high rpm peak horsepower stuff as they can use all that high rpm stuff. KTM had to becareful as you add more horsepower that usually means more rpm and less torque. So they went to the more expensive way, lighter components. Less weight helps everything from handling, acceleration, and braking. Love the feel of a V2 with its rougher character vs a smoother reving V4. Love how the whole engine is on display!

Adrian Martan . And now Ducati launches the new Street Fighter V4 with 208 bhp and only 178 kg, you can imagine KTM engineers will push the newer/next SDR even more to compete with the SF.

The Ducati Streetfighter will be slow on the street compared to the superduke. Not even close. By the time you slowly get up to the 9000 RPM Power Ranger the superduke will be long gone and slowing down because of the speed limit.

@@galuhrichata6148 crazy isn't it. Even the video reviews of the Streetfighter said it does not even get going until 7500 RPM and you are already over the speed limit! Great for the track though as you never really have to go super slow

Greg Field you don’t buy the 1290r to stay at the speed limit all the time. But you are right about the Streetfighter the power band is for track not street. Ducati what were you thinking? Makes no sense to call it a Streetfighter anymore.

when the spy-shots came out last year and showed that it was going to have the same composite sub-frame like the 790 I was worried because that bike doesn't look very good. But man... they nailed it on this one. I liked the new SuperDuke R but didn't love it when it got revealed at EICMA, but as these review videos started coming out this past month I think I fell in love with it now. I want it even more than the new StreetFighter!

People paying insane money on S1000RR, R1 etc and all they do is go gas station parking lot to gas station parking lot. This package truly is a do-it-all street and track toy that rivals the best of the best in a much more alive way. Even the 390 Duke is more fun than ANY 600cc sportbike I've been on.

That’s a butt-puckering amount of power. I’ve got a v-twin naked bike, but it has about 45 ft-lbs torque and 75 HP. Can’t imagine this (nor am I ready).

very good video. good format, good speaker, good footage and presentation of it. compared to some others i've seen recently, great speaker. hearing the long list of specs and changes was actually still entertaining. a lot of times it's not. i guess just the way he explained it all and worked it into his review. i don't know. i love watching the slow mo's of the high lean angles. seeing the rubber get stretched and warped all the way to the edge of the tread and beyond. plus it's just such a damn good looking bike to begin with.

A quick shifter does not come with the motorcycle it is an option.also you did not mention to do a wheelie you have to pay extra money to turn off wheelie control

Very nice review. I have the 2014. Is it as good as you say it is? And is it worth upgrading to the 2020? Plus I know they lowered the fuel capacity. Does the new bike get better fuel mileage. Do you get the same mileage range with the smaller fuel tank?

The V4 Streetfighter will be much much slower on the street. By the time you slowly hit the powerband you will be over the speed limit and the KTM will be far far ahead of you.V fours are useless on the street.

And fyi, i had a 2017 in past as well as the Adv...and BOTH had electronics issues of not reading the keys... No longer have either because of this as well as ktms fine print on warranty " coverd engine, frame and swingarm only"....NOT GOOD...

I’m sure it can, too. If you’re talking about the numbers shown on the speedo, they were significantly lower when the camera was mounted on the bike because it prevented me from tucking.

Note that the quickshifter/blipper is an optional extra that you'd have to pay extra for.

wait what? how is higher center of mass makes it more maneuverable? That seems to defy physics. Shorter the leaver the more force you need. Maybe I'm missing something.

Had a Superduke for 6 years, 37000km, many of them track days. Did the normal services, kept the chain maintained, new tyres. That's all it needed and it was flipping brilliant. Two friends have Adventures, do proper cross countey stuff (one has over 60k km on the clock) no issues. Another has a 450 Enduro, third from KTM and passed the other two old bikes to a son and nephew. No issues. I'll let them all know they have no idea and their bikes are actually unreliable 🤣

I had a 2016 1290 SDR, for 2.5 years. I got bored of it. It had good power, but my 2002 Hayabusa was stronger everywhere and a lot smoother. The biggest downfall on my SDR was the suspension, specifically the rear. KTM did away with the PDS suspension on their off road bikes years ago cause it had a really narrow window were it would work well. The non-linkage rear was no different on my SuperDuke and I should have known better than to buy it. All this talk of updated electronics to make it handle better is marketing BS, the single biggest improvement to this bike will be the addition of a linkage rear suspension.

Shane Tormey It has linkage. Attached to a new swing arm--15% stronger. And mounted in a different position. Attached to a brand new frame--3x as stiff. With all new upgraded fully adjustable shocks all round. And a special rear tire developed for this bike. Mounted on new lighter wheels, reducing unsprung weight--the most important weight to lose. Then improved electronics to blend it all together. So yeah. They literally changed EVERYTHING. Isn't USA the only place left that sells the Hyabusa in the world? Iconic bike. Time has passed it by. Like acid washed jeans.

Shane Tormey No but maybe I should? Having owned 13 KTM's and 4 Superduke--both 990 and 1290. No I have not loved them all-- but generally like them. My "bitch" with the 1290 Superduke is as you stated: That wobbly suspension that never feels really planted. I'm taking notes this time on the new one. But will probably get the 890R which should be a real handler.

I got a 990smr -2012 and a 1290SD -2015 and had some motocross from them aswell. love both the bikes as a huliganrider but ktm have problems with the new lcd display not working and having pixelproblems and taking in water and that is not covervd by the warranty mist coming inside the headlights + insurance is the worst so that combined that they not keeping up with the power of the topbikes make me leaning towards the Ducati streetfighter v4s as next bike.

I had a chance to ride one last week. It was so much more civilized than the last version. I rode it in rainish weather and it was not sketchy at all. It has great manners while still being a beast. Awesome bike no doubt (I still like my Tuono a little better). Ride one and sell your wife and kids because they aint cheap.

Too powerful for me on UK roads,so I bought a cruiser instead.Well thats what the salesman said it was,when he sold me a Ducati Diavel 1260 S.HA HA.I love it.

Im only 170cm tall, very sad, cant handle, at least not in a short time, i need loads of confidence to handle a oversized bike with so much power
