Worst thing about the super duke R is that KTM puts all the quickshifter hardware on every bike but STILL has the balls to charge you for a key to unlock their use. Absolute bollocks, IMO.
I purchased 2020 1290R the only good thing that KTM did was they included the quick shifter with the "Teck Pac" at $899. plus taxes here in Canada. I tested the Tuono then the 1290R , couple of Saturdays ago come Monday I wanted the 1290R the only problem was they only had it in black. The salesman told me I can give you the Tuono right now available the 2019,for same price. No told him, I was to receive the 1290R this past Friday, still no bike! Now he's saying this coming Thursday or Friday for sure, never had such aggravation on the purchase on new motorcycle, sure hope it's worth it?
On some bikes you have to buy the part and fit it, but still about the same cost. Don’t forget loads of factory’s shut down and it’s going to take time to get bikes now.
I wish my bike was like that. I thought I was saving money not getting the options. I wish I could just pay to get someone to unlock them. They don't exist.
"I don't feel like I have to just go banzai everywhere" Just what I wanted to hear, I got an mt-10 and love it but its just too aggressive and I find myself riding too fast all the time. Looks like i might be trading it in for this!
I have a 1290 SD R , you just have to use self control and not go mad !!!, quite simple really, I drive an R8 V10 Spider but don't go everywhere at 120mph either in that !!!!.🏍👍🇬🇧
What I did this year. From a MT10 to a Diavel 1260. And yes the Ducati is more enjoyfull to go slow but still will be able to go fast as hell. You should not fool yourself though becouse you probably will go fast on any bike becouse fast is fun. Just do it on the right places to minimize the risk. I will probably go V4 streetfighter next year. I done fooling myself lol.
Bravissimo isn’t “beautiful” it’s more like Forte means to play loud in music vernacular. fortissimo is as loud as you can play. bravo is an applause or a praise towards someone or thing, and bravissimo is as much praise as you can give . Italy nationals do I have that right ?
Bike sounds great, love the thought of a hyper naked, although my Street triple rs is enough at the moment even that 765 unit can turn you into a right hooligan. Cheers Choppsy
Loving your content at the moment Chops, just bought a 2020 SDR myself, absolutely awesome machine, I'm looking forward to your ZH2 and V4SF in-depth reviews.
So did I here in southern ,Ontario,Canada. Two weeks ago test ridden the Tuono back to back 1290R, within 24 hour's told salesman I wanted the 1290R ,but the orange/dark blue non in stock. Then offering me 2019 Tuono within electronic suspension, at same price very tempting, still wanting my 1290R this was 2 weeks ago, I was suppose to have it just last Friday. No fell through, this time told me found one promise me it will be ready this coming Thursday, sure hope it's worth it?
Finally rode my mates 2020 super duke r and I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be so good even after watching a lot of bloggers saying how good it was. Engine pulls from everywhere and that front wheel lifts all the time. You can ride it sensibly if you have the willpower. 2020 one is a Smooth bike. . It’s crazy fun!!
i had the 2015 model and i liked it ..... but i lost confidence in it when trying to push it hard on the road ........ i sold it and bought an 2018 RSV4. Very different bike i know. The issue for me is i have a bad neck and the more upright riding position is better for me. I now considering buying this model Superduke ..... and i never thought i would say that.
Sometimes there’s a perverse pleasure in just knowing you could blow everything around you into the weeds, but today call me Mr Speed Limits.........I did say Sometimes didn’t I 😜😎. Another fine review Mr Chops and the Fox Inn is in a place called Bramdean on the A272 a road built for this bike
Just picked mine up yesterday. It blew me away how much it just loves to lean. I've had gen1, and gen2, but this is night and day when it comes to cornering.
I've been getting the run around from the dealership last 2 weeks finding me the orange /dark blue, finally I get the call today that she will be delivered to my home this coming Friday. Never rode one, but being big guy and at 56 year's old sport bikes are a passed tense. Got my 2008 ZX-14 turbocharged for touring, this is perfect for country ride blasting and city riding. I can't wait see how it rides. Here in Canada you get Teck package with quick shifter extra $899. I guess Teck package is best you can get, they also had performance package?
@@ross5506 zx14 turbo! How fast is that in the top end, or is it focused on bottom end. I love those bikes when I get my unrestricted uk license I'm after either a 1999/2000 carbureted hayabusa unrestricted, or a zx14 gen 1.
Jaime Gonzalez I’m glad to hear that, I just bought a new gen 3..should have it next week 😁 I went for the new one because I love to corner hard, and of course pull big wheelies 😆👍😁
Salesman.... its got low milage, full service history and well looked after. Me..... but can you fist its arse??? This is my new yardstick for purchasing motorcycles, cheers chops.👍
I don’t blame KTM for charging for the various electronic packs. It makes the bike cheaper and an easy upgrade route if a buyer cannot afford the extra. The packs cost seem reasonable to me. The people complaining probably are not buyers. The bike is good value with or without the performance packs
The left switchgear is illuminated on my 2020 SDR, it's brightness has 3 levels of intensity. Must be a wiring issue on your bike. Also, you can set it to stay on night mode...
I just got mine few day's ago been raining so spent time figuring out teck package, can't seem get the traction control work when i put on track mode also the C1,C2 also having issues. I know that salesmen said KTM will have bluetooth working soon.
Was going to order this bike but didn't because of all the reliability issues and bad warranty cases with dealers! Went with a speed triple RS instead because I can trust it and build quality is better too
Hello from France! I bought this last week as replacement of the V2. Fully agree with your comments. This is an exceptionally Fun Bike also for everyday use (alarm, optional heating grips and even heating saddle with good under saddle storage room) 6,0 litres/100 kms on an unreasonably fast 330 km trip this sunday. The Bike has only 2000 kms so I expect this to reduce a little. Thanks your for your excellent videos !
I guess Tuonos first or second has a lot to do with ergos, chopsi is not the smallest guy.... Tuono however is a verry small bike.... And if you are not comfortable on something it might just not work for you. Me beeing a small guy, I have plenty of space on the tuono... But the speed of that thing.... I would kill me.... As its basicly allways in go way to fast mode...
I went from an Aprilia Tuono factory v4 1100 to an MT-10, because i couldn't go slow on the ape, yam is more comfortable riding position and i can go slow and look at the scenery lol, madness on tap, yam engine has more character also.
I gave this a 'thumbs up' before I even watched it as I find Mr LCR's video's very entertaining. Your enthusiasm is pretty obvious for this SDR. I'm in the market for my new bike at the moment and this was on the list but I just can't get over the looks of it. My other options are Ducati Monster S or the Triumph Speed Triple RS (I did toy with the idea of the new Ducati V4 but it's just too much money - £4K for a road legal Akra? Madness!!) Test riding them next week to try to make up my mind. There are too many great bikes about at the moment !!!!
Thanks Ian 👍 yes agreed so many good bikes and in all honesty you wont be disappointed with any of them! This is the golden age of motorcycles I think, so much choice and such an incredible selection
@@LambChopRides Waiting patently for the full review of the Ducati V4S sitting in your garage. When I phoned to book the test ride the salesman asked if I'd like to take one out but I've said no, told him it's too much money even though I could afford it. I think the Monster/Speed Triple will suit my style of riding more.
Fuelling is a massive issue. I love the fact that the KTM is enjoyable when you want to chill. Seems a really well balanced sorted machine that you can live with. I’m having a test ride next week. Have you ordered the mirrors yet? 😃
Ducati V-4S just DESTROYS this bike!! I know i own both!! I lime SPEED, and the KTM has 0 over 100-mph !! The Ducati is Ballistic to 180+ mph !! The Ducati sounds 1,000,0000,000,000 better than this Twin, Ducati sings/growls at the same time!! The KTM just makes noise.
The only problem is KTM themselves. They've started taking pictures for warranty claims and things like slip ons void it which is rediculous. That's basically KTM saying they have no confidence in their product and are worming their way out of fixing it. The fact that they charge quite a large amount of money to simply unlock a lot of the electronics is pretty disgusting as well. I had my first ever breakdown on a bike on the SDR the other day with just 1800 miles on the clock because of a loose battery terminal. My MT-07 has 21000 miles on it and it never left me stranded. My SDR also has a recall for faulty brakes and it needs the wheel hub filing down because the rotor isn't mounted straight.
Yesterday I called about the 2022 1290 r Evo and today I will put the deposit on it. However they said they don't know when it will arrive possible a few months I'm going to be 56 on in February and love riding long wheelies..my credit is 720 and said I should get a good interest rate should I let them get me financing or would I be better off doing it myself ?? ..thanks for the video 📹
Great review as always Chops 👍🙂. This bike seems like the dog's goolies. Supernakeds nowadays are so advanced and outrageously fast it's amazing. I would love to own most of them if money was no object. Lol
Mr Chops I have a real question for you! Have you ever had 2 bikes that you absolutely loved and adored at the same time and if so, how did you decide which one to ride?? I am in this fortunate position w my 2018 Tuono RR and my 2017 GSX-S1k that has been decatted and tuned for incredible horsepower/fun! I struggle w which one to go on....any advice???
Great vid & bike. I absolutely love it. It's my favourite super naked by a mile. It's also not too expensive in relative terms compared to the competition & if you like a big a V-Twin, which I very much do, look no further imo. My only slight reservation is reliability as KTM's can be a bit iffy in that department at times.
Adding my two pence. I had a gen2 1290 SDR and my opinion on the 1290 SDR is it is too much for the road. Yes it will go slow but who wants to go slow all the time. As a road bike to have fun on, the 1290 is to fast. I've now got a Duke 790 and love it. You can rag the 790, get it to pop, bang, burble, all well within life's tolerances. With the 1290 SDR, that's just not possible, it will hurt you, or get you locked up. I loved my 1290 SDR, but I love my Duke 790 more. Plus, you get track pack, quick shifter, auto blipper blah blah blah, all for free. Mind if you're over 6ft, the 790 is a small bike. Oh, did I say I have a 1290 SAS too 😉
19hundo c Its all about selling really, you are correct there is nothing wrong with a 2015 or 2017 version Super Duke, in every new version there are little changes they must keep up with other brands and keep selling but the 2020 version is out of date already as there is now a RR Super Duke. Won't be long before Gen 4 will be out.
Hi everyone, I'm really interested to buy Super duke, do somebody can tell do this bike will be good for every day run,and do have any electrical issues, thanks.
My first and last bike was a ninja 300. Thats all ive had.. is this bike too much for me or will I unintentionally kill myself? Im a very careful rider.
Test rode the 2020 beast last weekend and have to say that I enjoyed the 890R a lot more. 1290R felt too fat and clunky overall, 890R suits the roads way better.
Just bought myself the same bike, was wondering what Mount type you used from the ultimate add-ons site as they have a case that fits my phone. Cheers!
Torque is different animal, my ZX-14 turbocharged on 91 octane 255 rwhp/148 ftlbs. I don't care so much about top speed, but that torque is so, so addictive. This is why I purchased the 1290R, keeping my ZX-14 turbocharged for long distance touring.
Fun and informative review. Thanks. Compliments on the camera placement and editing. Cool how that front camera holds you steady and shows the bike bumping and vibrating... and holds the horizon steady as you lean. Which camera is that? Oh, wait, I see your list. Thanks for that, too.
I've read the brochure and watched tons of reviews and I still don't understand what is included in which tech pack. I talked to 3 dealers about it and none of them knew either. KTM made a great bike with the dumbest add on implementation ever in the history of dumb add on schemes.
The only drawbacks for me are the lack of wind protection, which i suppose i could get over if I had to, and the looks, which I simply cannot abide. As shallow as it is to be like this, I can't have a bike I don't stop and look back at as i walk away. To me the lines of this bike are simply offensive, the color garish, and the style looks like something I would associate with a gamer kiddie who's into anime. Maybe I'm getting old (I am old) but I still think 200hp is a quite reasonable power level for a bike. I think the latest electronics goodies and top end suspension/brakes are amazing. I simply cannot abide this insect looking abortion of a bike that is the color of a traffic construction warning sign or a sewer worker's safety vest. Call me shallow, but that is the truth. A motorcycle should look like I want to ride it. KTM across their entire line seek to keep me away. Pity is, unlike those gamer kids, I can actually afford it.
Yeah they are very distinctive Bill cant argue with that. I can see why some wouldn't like it. I guess a marmite bike for sure in the styling department
@@LambChopRides My sister came back from a couple years in Australia. She brought Marmite. I had heard Aussies liked it and she said it was great as she spread a thick slab on a rice cracker for me. The flavor was for me... imagine some poor creature who had failed at crossing a country road as a truck came by, perhaps a squirrel or a cat. Imagine that now flat creature sat in the summer sun until the season changed. If one were to then peeled that unfortunate decayed critter off the tarmac and lick the sticky road surface beneath, it would taste less offensive to me than Marmite. Yes, that's an apt description for my feelings toward KTM's designs. I'll be off now to look at some MV Agustas to cleanse my delicate palate. Thank you for your engaging videos.
Bill I’m with you on the Ktm looks, I love Ktm as a manufacturer and have had a 990 adv and a SMT (one of my favourite bikes ever) when they looked a little different but they have gone too far, but I must be getting old, as the MT range, every Kawasaki made in the last 10 years even the Ducati v4 Steet fighter all pig ugly IMHO, Maybe it’s my age too but the slopping sharp angles designers use now just don’t do it for me.
Recently got my Super Duke and it is the ultimate lazy boy loony machine. I love the chugging from low revs when the taps are openned. One grumble, the throtlle had 3mm of slack play standard so blipping on the down change was very hard. i searched that problem on you tube and was sent to 'Racetorx' great idea they make small fillers that remove the play inside the twistgrip. sorted
Get review as always! One thing you haven’t really mentioned was the build quality and ergos. I’ve had my gen 2 since it came out and I rode the new gen 3 recently - few things that instantly really stood out to me with a back to back ride was that the new bike definitely has more sporty ergos - the pegs are higher and you’re cantered over the front more, the build quality is a step above the old bike and it feels a bit more torquey in the middle of the rev range and thats comparing to my 2.0 with the full Akraprovic and race map. The new bikes such a great machine and ‘fixes’ all the flaws of the old bike - especially if you come from superbikes and are looking for something still sporty - the old bike has a more Supermoto position which some people may prefer. I’m really torn between trading my gen 2 in for this or the Tuono V4 factory (as the Tuono deals are so good and you’re getting a hell of a lot of bike for a lot less) - I’m just worried I’ll regret not having some variety and changing to a different engine (yum v4) / manufacturer for another 3 years if I get another SDR....
I knew you'd love it. FYI - You may have a faulty bike. The left switch gear is illuminated, and offers 4 settings...Off, Dark, Medium and Bright. It also tells you on the bottom of the screen if the Anti-Wheelie is off or on. "AWM OFF". I've had mine for about 3 months and I average 42 MPG and 150 miles per tank with a very heavy throttle hand. Only bad thing about the new SDR (and all KTMs) is the KTM My Ride app that pairs your phone with the bike so you can view Nav, music and phone calls on the screen is crap. I can't even pair my phone with the bike
Last comment I promise- the 2021 SDR will only be a Generational Improvement IF KTM uses the RC16 v4... that is why I considered the 2020 an off year so no real upgrade only KTM bravely and successfully contending with more restricive Emissions Regs, a daunting undertaking for what will most likely be a very low volume sales year due to covid. The truly Generational Icon was the Gen1 SDR with the Gen2 refinements in digital dash, software and lighting lighting making the Gen2 so Iconic looking and performing. Gen3 not so much really. ok I ll shut up now and wait for my rc16 sdr.
600s are too much for the road. My V65 Magna and Bandit 1200S could get me in trouble in half a second. Enjoying my Ninja 400, especially the $3150 price new from dealer.
Anything probably beyond the original CB500 is probably too much for the road, or more acurately, more then anyone actually 'needs' for the road. It's a sad day we sold the CB500S. Keep Tightening (it) Mate.
so much BS on how much better the 2020sdr when compared to the 2017 -2019 pure BS every review repeats the exact same dribble 2017 -2019 sdr had no instability or fkn wobble whatsoever the brakes are fantastic on the 2017-2018 same brembos all the bs to sell essentially the same bike only wih a fugly exhaust on the 2020 The sdr is a much better and much different bike than the fkn tuono tuono seat is like a vinyl covered 2x4 pleeze
I’ve just ordered a 2021 Superduke R. The switchgear is definitely illuminated here in Australia. I refused to pay for the quick shifter, the dealer didn’t charge me for it. Happy Days.
Having just repaired your old Gen1 chops it's easy to understand why your old bike may have felt unstable, the new owner was lucky that the rear hub collapse only cost him time and money, £1,000.00 later and the rear hub is now as it should be I.e the rear wheel no longer flaps around, it must have been failing for some time given all the needle rollers were rusty and distroyed, plus the hub had no drain hole for water, he had not done many miles on the bike. As you know I own the Gen2 and take servicing seriously as should any Superduke owner. Btw, KTM wanted no part in the cost of the repair and claimed the bike had no maintenance and thus lead to the failure of the rear hub, a common problem with Gen 1 to 3 SDR etc. To see images chops check my twitter. P.s Galfer/KTM Wavey discs are shit. Also readers let's be clear, I own a SDR, it's too good not to own, but, once the warantee runs out you will be on your own, I've know Ducati honour parts outside of warantee, same with other brands, I was disappointed that this customer was brushed of by KTM, and with a bike that has been right in the public eye, does that leave a bitter taste to ownership, well, probably, anyways I will continue my love of the Superduke R, it's a true wonder of a bike, when its setup, maintained and running as it should. Last of all the rear hub on the SDR is under rated imo, how often do Ducati, Honda Triumph hubs collapse, never, now for the big one, KTM removed the last claim that was made for a hub before you owned the bike, it was recorded as having a hub replacement before, for some strange reason that information has now been removed from the history of the bike, so it now shows no claims in any such regard, make what you will of that (on a side note KTM made me remove images in 2009 of worn engine internals of the RC8 back then or they would take legal action to do so). Cheers. The tech who took #33 to 4th place in the BSB KTM Supercup.
