Hah, I needed to figure out how to take out the center console so I could fetch and AirPod that somehow fell through the cup holder. Thanks for the clear instructions!
I find myself in your EXACT SITUATION right now. So aggravating. Guess I’ve got a new weekend project. (Thinking about putting some kind of tape or plastic wrap on the underside of the cup holders so those centering wedges still move in and out, but nothing can slip past them.)
@@PlasticAstronaut That’s funny, I thought I was just unlikely gifted in the art of losing things inside my car xD. Good news, the whole thing is pretty well designed to come apart so even with limited car-repair experience it only took 40 minutes and worked great. Actually, before you go fishing around, try pulling that side plastic panel outwards (the panel right below the side leather trim that he takes off). After I dismantled the entire thing I realized I basically could have pulled that out slightly and gotten the AirPod out because it had landed on one of the sides. And my lasting solution was only putting cups in those holders from now on lol.

Only needed to pop the center cover inside the armrest compartment and the side trim, and then lifted the center panel just enough to get a driver on the two screws that hold the cup holders. Never needed to pull the shift knob, just tripped the neutral safety switch to get it out of Park without starting the engine in a closed garage. About half an hour and a completely out-of-proportion sense of accomplishment. I tried the side plastic panel you mention but it was too far aft of the problem area - my pod fell straight down and stayed below the cup holders.
Ugh, I think I'm gonna be doing the same. Was installing a remote start module and I put the screws for the steering column cover and paddles in there, reached in to grab them, and I managed to pull one up the wall of the cup holder and through the hole of despair.
Hey Jay G have you ever seen the parking break switch lock up? My 2021 CX 30 is pushed and held down. The car worked fine the day before. Lights is blinking on the switch. I was able to get to the center console with your video, thank you for that.
