I just bought (leased) a 2023 GLB 250… I go looking for reviews and content on the model and I run into this reviewer… I have been looking constantly at car reviews for the last 3 years. How is it possible that such a professional, and well articulated car reviewer was hidden from me all of this time. This man is the best car reviewer I have seen, and I have seen plenty!
He's had some high production comedy in his previous reviews. Great personalities of all peeps, Mark, Jack, Turboski , and especially Toddd! Hope they do a reunion video with the whole gang!
Can't think of why anyone would get a GLC300 over this. It's better in all the ways that matter except looks. I really like this as an alternative to the bigger FWD 2 row crossovers like the Corsair, RDX and maybe even the RX. Nice review as always
I just started Laughing out loud when i reached the 4:30 mark. That's because I had the same car for testing purposes a while back and I found the doors extremely infuriating to close. I too thought it was just my test car, but I see now that's a general problem.
The Merc compact platform cars have extra seals for noise reduction so you have to close the doors harder. All 4 doors on the one we test drove had to be closed hard.
I couldn't agree with that statement more. I unsubscribed from every other car channel but Savage Geese. Hate to say I hold off on considering anything until Mark and the gang get ahold of it. SG is the highest quality channel on cars on RU-vid IMO.
Mark doesn't have personality .He is sometimes too nitpicky showing flaws of vehicles. But I'm subscriber and I watch every review ,because it has best video production from all car reviewers on RU-vid. I like his reviews of cars from the past.
@@charlesdr1981 You call it nitpicky, I call it a comprehensive review of everything buyers might not like. If you want dudes with personality yelling, doing gimmicky stuff, and glossing over most major details of the cars they review, you should check out The Straight Pipes - you might love them.
@@austinwallick8744 I'm car fanatic so I watch straight pipes also. I respect Mark don't get me wrong ,he is hard working,it's not easy too put quality content every week. Maybe because I come from Europe ,but best car journalists for me are Henry Catchpole and Chris Harris .But I love American vehicles so I watch mostly American car reviews. For example I don't like Matt Watson from carwow, he know to be pretty biased . I like what The Topher is doing with POV reviews,I like that.
I convinced my 75 year old mom to buy this two months ago and she loves it I agree with the doors you have to slam the doors and my folks always have a door or two not fully closed and the column shifter is and feel very fragile like you can break it sooner or later something that’s touched a lot.
I leased a GLB 2 days ago. However I saw this video afterwards. I was surprised how you captured some of my thoughts exactly and why I went with the GLB. I had spent the entire day at a dealership hub in Chantilly, VA sitting in luxury small to mid size SUVs, narrowed down to test drive a few. I would have lost a bet that I would drive away with this. After my test drive though I was hooked. Mine is mid range priced around $44,500. The dealer had lease deals on the loaner models, less than 5k miles, which pricing was about $200 less per month. Yes please!
This is great mark thank you for showing it to us! I didn’t think I’d like it at all when I saw the thumbnail but it grew on me and hearing that you had a soft spot for it influenced me a lot actually! I think you nailed it with 3 year lease for whoever wants it for the “here & now” of it all. Kudos to Mercedes for creating it!
After my last Mercedes I think I'm staying away from them for a while. They're banking on people who are attracted to vehicles with shiny bit and flashy design and that's fine if you're just going to lease it and then get rid of it after 3 years. But for those like me who don't lease it's just not going to work. You cannot own a Mercedes, or most European brands for that matter, once the manufacturer's warranty expires unless you have money to burn and time on your hands to keep taking it to the dealer for repairs. Different people have their own definition of luxury. Some like all those flashy bits and sexy design as mentioned and some are just badge shoppers. But my definition of luxury has reliability on the top of my list as well and quality and comfort. Worry free driving is my kind of luxury. When I had my last Mercedes I kept wondering what is going to go wrong next.
@stephen stepanic Yes, I agree that taking good care of your care is important to maintain reliability but when I bought (not leased) my last Mercedes (2014 MY) I also purchased a 5-year service agreement. So every manufacture recommended service was performed on time and at the very dealership where I purchased the vehicle. I wish I could say the only times I've visited the service center was to have a routine service done but unfortunately that was not the case. I've had more unscheduled repair trips to the dealer than scheduled maintenance. Thankfully they were all under warranty but although they took care of me and gave me loaner cars each time I dropped off my car, I still have to take time to drop my car off and then later go pick it up. I don't know about anyone else but my time is very important to me. Again, this goes back to each individual's definition of luxury. Mine is not having to worry about all that.
The GLK 350 was one of their most reliable suv's. You can snag a 2015 for a good price now. I wish Mercedes would cut their lineup and just focus on quality more.
@@ninotrivelli The last one I had was a 2014 CLA that I purchased in 2013. I was drawn by the looks and I ordered it with Premium package, multimedia package, sports package, Bi-Xenon LED package, Panoramic roof, and spoiler. It was beautiful. But after I bought it I started seeing the issues. The ride was horrible, the 7-speed dual clutch transmission was twitchy and just horrible, the gaps in the interior were huge, even for non-luxury brand standards, the Harmon Kardon sound system was mediocre at best, the interior noise was loud... and those aren't even what went wrong with the car later on. They were just how the car was made. Then I started having issues with one that nearly got me stranded when the engine started to over heat. I subscribed MBrace so I called them from the car but the connection was so bad I couldn't understand what they were saying so I called from my cell and had the car towed to my dealer. It was a faulty thermostat which was what I thought but while that was being fixed I did some research and found that this was a common problem due to poorly designed or spec'd out thermostat. When I got the car back I asked if they used the same thermostat or a newer version and all I got was a canned response saying they only use genuine Mercedes parts specified. That means it was the same old part that would only fail again. But the straw that broke the camel's back was when the car started running really rough. So I brought it in and they confirmed the roughness but for days couldn't figure out why. After a week they finally figured out it was bad engine mounts. It was so unusual for engine mounts for a car that new to go bad that they didn't even stock the parts so they had to order them from Germany. After all that I sold the car because if a long wearing item like engine mounts can go bad so quickly then what else is going to go bad? I fell prey to the flashy bits and sexy looks and I will never let that happen again. The car before that was an E-Class. It was recalled more times than I can remember and got rid of that after just 5 years.
I really like the design of these. It stands out by being more boxy. The combination of the BRAND and all the minor things being fairly well executed will make this thing a success...
I have a loaner now, and the quality is not there, only pretty gimmicks, light the ambiance lighting to distract you from poor underpinnings. The ride quality is bad, the steering wheel manual, and it feels cheap. This is not a " real " Mercedes Benz.
@@Jaang29 had this as a loaner as well and i can agree with literally everything you said. the quality is horrendous for a mercedes, bad ride and definitely not a true mercedes. the worst part is the cheapest piece of plastic known to man on the interior of the B pillar.
I really thought you were gonna rip this car a new one and here I am pleasantly surprised that it drives pretty well. I love it when you don't expect much from a car and it meets or exceeds expectations. It's so rare nowadays
How Savagegeese can blend the music so easily with the cars that he reviews, but others car review channels don't?? And the way Mark and Jack reviews it's unique and with knowledge
Hmmm, I own the exact same vehicle that was purchased brand new and I darn sure don’t have to close my doors that hard. The seats are comfortable and the infotainment system isn’t that difficult. I sure wouldn’t have chicken grease or anything else on my hands changing anything in any vehicle. Also, you can use your voice to change everything from radio stations to the temperature and then some.
The nice thing about this car is that it's the type that you can take out for a spin, kick-back, relax and even the cock-blocker in front of you wont' even bother your drive. Thanks for another great review- it's a little different from what I've been watching so far, such as the Type R review that you did just a short while ago! This one relaxes you more when you watch it!
I'm 40. I remember when I was a kid seeing the distant future prototypes of vehicles, with their screens across the dash (not even touchscreen!) and was in awe at how futuristic they looked! 😮
I have turned so many of my friends onto this channel. Your reviews just keep getting better and better. Cinematography is second to none. Would love to see a video from you guys on how you film and the equipment you use.
Been driving a leased GLB 200d (FWD) for the last 5 months . HAd a few minor interiors issues when i first got it, but they were all solved by the dealer in no time . Other than that this is a great car . And a great "toy" and by toy i mean that it is a joy to own, to look at, to sit in . I opted for the 2wd because i hardly ever encounter snow where i live, and the consumption on average is around 18 to 20 km per liter . Cabin is super silent, yes i confirm seats are not perfect, a bit firm . But space is great inside, handling is nice and easy, gearbox makes sure the engine is always at it's best rpm . I have to say though that I am happy i leased it, because with all the technology that it has onboard , i would not like to be facing issues once the warranty will be over .
I like the way you described the audio system succinctly but sufficiently so that one could determine the quality or lack thereof rather than showing the usual collage of graphs that nearly no one knows how to read.
The bright ambient light is the last thing you want when you drive in the middle of the night, tired and trying to concentrate on the road ahead. I wish cars came with "turn everything off" like Saabs used to as it makes driving at night stressing your eyes much less
I like the part where the owner (Once out of warranty) pulls into the dealership for the $149 oil change special and is told it will be "extra" to clear the 17-fault codes along with the ABS sensor and bad PCM/Suspension/battery draw diagnostic light.
I do not know how it is possible but i enjoy each review that you do . Even cars that i hate i watch it till last second and have feeling that i did not waste my time . Thank you and thanks to your parents sir
The new FWD platform does seem like a big improvement. The previous CLA and GLA were pretty crappy, so the new vehicles are going to seem like an upgrade. I wish I liked the exterior styling better. It seems stuck halfway between friendly puppy and snarling pit bull.
I really appreciate your review on car seats been too hard. I immediately scratch this car off my list. Isn't seat comfort just about the most important criterion for choosing a car?
Watch the video, like the video, and leave an encouraging comment because you’re the hero we need but don’t deserve. Love your non-bullshit, straight to the point and detailed reviews mate. I recommend you to all my car peeps
Mercedes really hit a home run with this by offering a low price point and an optimal third row because it makes the Acura RDX and BMW X3 look a bit suboptimal and silly.
I really love everything about this car. The cons aren't for me at least enough to deter me away. It has everything I want from a cuv as my next car. Except the price but to get everything you want... it's a debate.
I have the GLC which I love (super quite, luxury, excellent travel appliance), I’ll likely look closely at the GLB when upgrade time comes in a few years time.
I am a bit confused. Mr. Geese gives this vehicle a very positive review. But in the beginning, he says the seats are awful. Well, if you have to put a lot of hours/miles in those seats, won't that be annoying, at the very least, and perhaps painful? Bad seats are a deal-breaker to me.
OMG! "I may have had too many soy lattes because I feel my estrogen levels shooting sky high driving this car." If I said that to my college class, I'd be killed. :)
I currently have a 2012 Q5. We are a young family of 4. I’m really considering a GLB 250 4matic here in Canada. The options really drive up The price. I hope Mercedes is willing to negotiate.
... aaahhh!!! ... mmhhh... a refreshing car review... like the approach... not the cookie-cutter approach by all others... brief but centered on taste and driving experience... not engagimg in minfless and endless critiuiqing of any and every thing... well done.
We are about to order a 2021 for a 3 year lease. The screen died on the one we were scheduled to test at the dealer at 27 miles... so we had to drive a different one. There’s a TSB on those now. Mark had the sport seats, the standard ones are super comfortable. Ours will be around 46K with FWD, Galaxy Blue with beige interior, black wood trim, garage door opener (280$$$), Pano roof, led ambient lights, 360 camera, heated and cooled seats, premium package, rear side airbags, bermester audio. The screens are 7 inch if you don’t get the premium package lol. It is very spacious for the size, more interior space and cargo space than a GLC. I enjoy driving and was pleased with the driving characteristics. Looks really good in person and I prefer the look without AMG appearance package. Yay fog lights and even more boxy.
I really like the fact that you can hear the turbski doing its thing. Thats a rarity for modern turbocharged cars. I dont recall hearing that induction sound in the GLC300 I had for a loaner, but that was RWD based so I assume its manifold/drivetrain layout related.
I drove a new a class with adaptive damper and was shocked at how well it rode in comfort. I'd almost compare the ride with an s class with airmatic minus the long wheelbase and it still handled great. Audi adaptive dampers on their smaller cars are kind of loud over bumps like they have blown shocks
Love the channel! Mark is great. 17 seconds into the review and all I see is yet another box on wheels. No style. Anyway, that's the current state of affairs of the automotive world.
I am sure you’re comparing this to other cars, but obviously you realize if you’re closing the last door, you’re pressurizing the cabin so it will take more force to close it then if other doors were open. If you had another door open and then you close a different door, do they close fine? Even in my Subaru outback, if I try to lightly close the drivers door with all the other doors closed, sometimes it doesn’t close all the way. I’m just saying this doesn’t sound particularly unusual.
Should have praised them for the best part, which is the upright tailgate. The here and now trend is to cut into the cargo area with a coupe style roofline. Mercedes really deserves praise for buckin that trend, and opting for the much more practical option.
@savagegeese will you get an cla 45 amg? the brits love the amg a class. I would like to hear your opinion on it. 421hp from 2l should be interesting to review
I'm a sucker for CUVs that are boxy and oriented toward storage and interior space rather than simply being a jacked up hatchback. If they make a GLB 35/45 AMG I might look in that direction.
@@chocolatewheelchair No, because 'soccer mom' in my opinion is just a throwaway term to describe the type of mother that takes her kids to school and back in a minivan or SUV, if she can afford one, for the "CoMmAnDiNg ViEw Of ThE rOaD" and the safety she would sacrifice everything else in her life to have that little bit more of. Sports is just another destination for the kids and soccer mom comes off the tongue nice. "Could be an ingrained image in your head not based on the reality of experiences in society" Your nonrelevant flexing of first year psych student bullshit is kinda cringe bro
I live in an upper middle class white suburb in the Midwest. Lots of gold digging housewife soccer moms who marry a doctor, become a stay at home mom, and spend hubby's money while he's at work. Whenever I see a BMW X5, Porsche Macan, or some other high-end luxury SUV, it's almost always a woman behind the wheel. These woman aren't auto enthusiasts, these vehicles are a fashion piece, like a Coach bag or Louis Vuitton shoes. Whenever I see one of these high-end SUV's or crossovers, I associate them with gold digging women who beg their high-income hubby for a luxury car, so she can show off to the other soccer moms. This type of person is dangerous, because they're so snobby that they don't yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. Ask me how I know! P.S. I'm a woman, so don't call me sexist. And I actually have a job, and I pay for my cars with my own money.
Glad to see a boxy suv/cuv.. Dislike that most suvs have sloped rear hatches and not not as usable. Great useable interior, drives well and more.. I had two e class wagons in a row and made the switch to this for daily.. Not trackdays lol
yayyy thanks for this glb review!!!! i know u did the 2020 corolla car already? but the new apex looks 😍 in that cement color and black roof and bronze details. i’m guessing it’s the same as xse? but with different muffler?
@xxx420xxxBLAZExxxITxxxFAZExxxCLANxxxWHYxxxARExxxYOUxxxSTILLxxxREADINGxxxTHISxxxCREATIVExxxUSERNAME? thats because the mexican factory got shot up by the cartel in the middling of assembly
I just had retina surgery after having owned one of these. I claimed a warranty issue and was denied. If I can't drive it after eating a bucket or two of chicken, it's a no go for me. We do have a monkey just for door closure and it really works well. Nicely done. And frankly, for 50k, I want super uncomfortable seats so I want to get out and hit the lazyboy .
Benz's interiors are the best in the business now. Regardless of price point. You can spend your money on a Bentley or a Ferrari but it won't have a better interior and user interface.
I guess it is a matter of opinion. I prefer Volvo's interior. I don't like the fussiness in Mercedes interiors. And did you see the S-class preview for 2021? Jury's out. Maybe cleaner and nicer or just too many screens.
Great Review Mark - Great concise relevant insightful and balanced as always. Would love for you to get your hands on the new GLE - I haven't seen a competent review on the new GLE350/450 because everyone spends all their time making it bounce around with the 7K adjustable air ride function (which I think is only built for Dubai or Duluth). I think also that shortening the "In the Shoppe" segments is appropriate for these types of vehicles which are notably not built with driving enthusiasts in mind. And you're right - 7 inches does go along way. I agree with the comment below - I'd watch you review a toaster. I'd probably learn something:) Keep up the excellent channel - almost to 400K subscribers! Awesome!
Oh, hey, an excellent review. What a surprise. Car looks pretty cool, to be honest... not that I could ever put myself in a MB and not feel like a show-off.
I thought these looked cool for about a day and then I saw one in person and it looks like a minivan mated with a two door G Wagen after a long night at the discotek
I really like this one, and the Volvo XC 40, for their boxy looks inside and out. In a world in which everything looks like a bar of soap, boxier SUVs kinda stand out. Being in a colder climate, FWD/AWD is a plus for something that isn't meant for sporty driving. So, in general I really like the GLB. I like the way it looks, the interior, the practicality, the dynamics, but the problem is, I just don't trust it. Dual clutch transmissions usually spell trouble, or at least costly maintenance. The engine might be okay, but not great, and the made in Mexico build quality of doors that can't close right is not inspiring either. To be honest, despite the fact that I like it a lot for its class, I would never buy such a thing. Then again, most of today's cars don't give me any confidence when it comes to reliability. I guess that's what happens when you drive a 90s Volvo that is so absurdly bulletproof you forget cars even need maintenance other than the annual oil/fluids/filters change.
