I'd buy several of the 2020 for sure; light and casts like a dream. you CAN snag JDMs on ebay for about $350 right now >>bf417*momo(100% feedback). I have the JDM, but it looks like your US version has a 90mm handle for HG(7.1:1)...are you able to verify? The JDM HG is only 85mm, which is a little letdown but I do like the knob caps better. Also, have you tried Daiwa reels? In particular, the high end Daiwa Steez SV TW? I've been trying to track another for about a month now on ebay/online, but mostly ebay. All around $500 minus shipping and taxes. Well I was able to snag one at the link below for $449 shipped (no tax if you live outside of MN and free shipping) - be sure to use coupon code for $50 off: SPRING10. No I don't work for them, but if you've ever tried to track a SV TW for cheap under $500 for a RIGHT HAND model, it's tough. Anyway, I bring it up because I still prefer it over the 2020 as good as the 2020 is and was curious if you've ran any high end Daiwa. Oh, it's also 5.7oz. code: SPRING10 www.reedssports.com/daiwa-steez-sv-tw-bcast-reel-12-crbb-1-7-11-steezsvtw1016sv-sh-043178140673
wgooden3 I’ve never used those other two reels but this new Metanium is small and easily palmable. Definitely more comfortable than the previous Metanium.
I bought an MGL. It's a lot easier to palm than the Chronarch. If I buy another, it'll probably be another Metanium MGL. If I had to do over again, I would likely have bought the Metanium MGL for crankbaits instead of the Chronarch MGL.
*Awesome reel, **enjoyable.fishing** recommend especially for the price! No problems so far. Reeled in a 14lb laker yesterday and performed great. (5-10 min reel in time) Love the drag adjustment.*
I have the Scorpion DC and it uses the same IDC 5 breaking system as the metanium. Also have the SLX DC and curado DC and you can definitely tell a difference between them. I've used the metanium DC just haven't dropped the cash for it. Great video bro.
Those cheaper dc brakes are very poor . The spool is just insanely heavy so light lures just don't go as far as they should. I've had to refund 2 of them where I work . The spool is 21 grams for god's sake.
it’s crazy how a fish can pass a hook like that. That’s why they say cut the line instead of ripping a hook out if it’s deep. They have a better chance of survival passing it by themselves
That’s why I bought the scorpion dc… it has the same breaking as the metanium, but at the cost of a curado. I absolutely love everything about it. I almost always throw on 2, but if I’m throwing something in the heavier side, I’ll bump it to 3
Awesome video bro, welcome to the metanuim world , I have all of them and I do agree with you on the 2020 version its alot more compact and crisp. Bought my first one in 2013 and loving them since . You need to get your hands on the antares dc and excense dc , they are shimano best reels in my opinion from using them.
I have 2 of the new MET MGLs and its by far my favorite reel. I just ordered a third one from Japan, its the absolute only place I found a XG model and I've searched daily for a month. You definitely will love it.
@@FishhookTerry I got the Aldebaran mgl yesterday and took it out this afternoon. I have it on a GL E6X worm rod and I can wail a weightless Senko with it. The Metanium mgl is gonna be sweet for jigs. I'll have to save up for it but it is worth it!
Great video. I don’t have the Metanium dc but I do own a couple of the curado dc reels. I do own the 2016 Metanium mgl and the 2020 Metanium and between those 2 reels I can absolutely say the same thing you did between the dc and the new Metanium. The 2020 is by far the best reel I have ever owned. I liked the core solid body so much I bought a bantam mgl, because I couldn’t find another 2020, and it has quickly became my #2 favorite reel with the 2016 mgl slipping to #3. There is a lot to be said about the core solid body reels. I’m hoping the future will bring more Shimano reels built with core solid bodies.
+Joshua Webb thanks for watching man. I feel absolutely the same way. That build of the reel makes it better than anything else out there. Soooo good, if they can incorporate that into other models, it’s game over for the competition. Thanks again man!
I have 2 of the new Metanium MGLs and I just ordered a 3rd from Japan. The absolute only XG model I've found anywhere and I've been searching for a month now.
I have caught a bass with a similar problem next cast I caught a bass with a plastic worm coming out of it's a$$. Two fish caught minus a bullet weight one free set up. Lol, it really did happen .
He looks really healthy for digesting and actually passing a fucking ewg hook... Thank you for your review. I'm a curado nut. I had a really nice chronarch d, loved it to death, went through my daiwa phase, then back to cusp curado d, old bantam, and the e7. I've thing I've noticed is fishing gear if you keep it in good condition and super tune you can actually make money in the long run. Look at the citica series that just got discontinued... That was a bad ass reel.
Ok so i need to know what reel i need for deep cranking and speed cranking. Im not too sure about the tranx 200. I love my 8.1.1 or higher gear ratios. Im new to deep cranking. A 7'6" heavy rod is on the way. But can this bantam be used for this application. Deep cranking 12ft or more. I have reservoirs 40ft here in lower California. Is this reel a work horse? We all know that casting distance is a major factor with deep cranking. Or matanium dc reel?
Actually last year i caught a bass that had one of those pre snelled hooks and the line part was coming out unfortunately the hook was still in i pulled on it a little bit with out trying to really pull and i got part of the line from there reel to a swivel clip to that pre snelled line so i got most of the line just couldnt get the hook out
I have Metanium and Chronarch Mgl ... save your money boys this man must work for Shimano .... the difference between the Chronarch and the Metanium is hardly noticeable ... get the Chronarch and use the extra savings to upgrade your rod
Just wait until you try out the Antares A I am truly amazed, but nothing cast further then the Antares DC MD that thing rocks, but I just can get past how big the thing feels in my hand so I just put it back in it’s box for now.
I've been drooling over this reel for a while now... That new Metanium MGL is such a beast. You're right, Core Solid is amazing. Our Bantam MGL is one of our star players! Keep it up man!! I'll let you know when I pick that new Met up! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Lucky me! I have two! Both speeds in left. BUT!! must say the thumb bar on these is sub standard. Rough action while pushing down and requires significantly more pressure than my Bantam, Chronarch, Metanium DC. With the rest of this reel so butter smooth this really stands out. Probably can be improved on tear down but disappointing. The Real Test site has also mentioned this too.
Just found your channel, new sub! I also have all shimanos from curado dc, chrons, Mets and the new 2020 met is hands down, best reel I've ever felt or cast. And casts like a dream effortlessly. The old Mets were nice but this new tech in core body = perfection.
Great video sir , I am new to the channel , my question is I have the TWS SV Daiwa steez and Zillion line up. Once those are setup they cast good maybe not great in distance. But they can’t be backlashed , it’s like throwing a spinning reel on a bait caster. If I went with the Metanium MGL and dialed it in to the baits I throw is it going to be a hard reel to keep from backlashing. I don’t know the breaking system well enough on higher end Shimano’s. Great video , great channel and I wish you all the best sir.
Did you go for the Metanium MGL? Havn't tried it but my guess is you will get a bit better distance and more backlashes under head-windy conditions...?
Same feeling man, it's just a nightmare with skipping, pitching I managed to adjust my style to be able to, but the DC is not mostly not activating while pitching.
I prefer the metanium dc in winding days over the MGL, but a regular day they’re both great, if like the MGL that much you should try the Anteras is a way better
I got the Abu Garcia revo sx as my first bait caster was the upgrade a big difference? I’m looking to buy the Shimano curado DC Shimano scorpion or the metanium 🤙🏽
In my opinion I cast a little further with the Antares, but not as much as you would think, for the price I would go metanium only because the extra 5 feet doesn’t in my opinion worth the extra cash but DC Antares all the way, I have the 2019 Antares dc and man that thing is a beast of its own.
@@20block.Pologroundz went to try them out and ended up just getting the mets. felt super solid for how light it is and def casts further than my curado dc.
The metanium dc was first released in 2015 in Japan, and brought over to the USA in 2019... I would hope the 2020 metanium is better lol, it’s 5 years of newer technology. I’m willing to predict a new metanium DC will come out very soon
+Jacob Miller yes you’re correct. If they throw DC into a core solid body, it’s going to be tremendous. Hope they can make that happen soon. Thanks for watching and the comment man.
+Joseph Hilliard this is the 2019 American version not the JDM version you’re thinking of. This was released in the US last year. Thanks for watching bud!
