I guarantee all the car reviewers dissing this car have never spoken to the owners. They compare this car to a Luxury SUV and then they drive home in their used Civics! This is a basic small car with a fantastic warranty that rides/handles good for what it is, has engine/trans combo that works well together, and gets the highest EPA gas mileage of any gasoline non-hybrid car sold in America. It's pretty fun to drive (even with the CVT). I've got all the goodies on mine, and still the dealer gave almost $4,000 off when I sat down to make the deal. I have 61,000 on my 2nd new Mirage (unfortunately totalled the first one) and have never had A SINGLE THING GO WRONG with either Mirage. That's reliability! And I happily pay $15 to $20 to fill up (300 miles.) That's real economy folks. A good car. A great purchase!
Only one major downside. It's the most dangerous car in America, with highest fatality rating, not because it's small, but because it's structural integrity is sh!t. Just look at the IIHS crash test ratings. Thing is less safe than some old cars made 20 years ago.
Very true.Critics and haters make this car something it isnt.its not a power or flashy car.It is a basic reliiable car that will get you where you need to go and save you gas doing it.You want power ,flashiess or both there are cars out there for you.Why slam on this car and other economy cars?,
I have a 2019 Mirage ES with 5 speed manual transmission and fog lamp up grade installed by the dealer. I find that this car is very easy to drive in traffic. The drive to the office in the morning is a lot of fun as it is like driving a go cart! I have had it over a year now and it has been very reliable and sips gas, even though I drive it quite hard. I am constantly up and down the rpm levels and shifting but keep in mind, I really enjoy driving. Some of you may prefer to just put it into D and drive along. My Mirage came with an extended warranty. Make sure you get your oil changed at the dealer for warranty purposes. Not only will you get a genuine Denso oil filter (one of the best on the market - same brand as Toyota uses) but ask for the synthetic 0W20 oil. The 3 cylinder will thank you for the synthetic oil in the long run. On another point of interest, DO NOT let all the people that give this little car a bad review influence your buying decision. It is well built, affordable and a decent commuter car for the money. If you can shift gears, go for the 5 speed instead of the automatic. The Toyota Yaris and Honda Fit aren't any better as I looked at them and drove them. This was a well done and informative video by El Cajon. Should I take my Mirage on a road trip, I may very well stop at this dealer along the way for servicing. The lot in the back ground looks well laid out and tidy. That says something good about the dealership right from the start. Place [C]
@IT'SME I don't know but I want to keep the service records from the dealership. If you have dealer service records, it is easier to claim warranty coverage later on if you need it. So what is the cost of the oil change at that juncture? Plate [C]
It's a good commuter car too and isnt that bad on the highway either. I have no trouble maintaing speed, merging, or keeping up with the flow of traffic. It is loud though and the car gets pushed around a little if its really windy.
@@IsThatChadHondaReviews You can find 2016 prius for 13-14-15k with low miles. Or even if you want to find priuses cheaper there is always an option on copart/iaai and repair would cost nothing because prius parts are literally everywhere. You can do repair by yourself because they are easy to work on.
Do NOT believe the bad reviews! I 100% concur with all those who appreciate this little gem. I own a 2019 with a 5-speed. I drive close to 200 miles a day & it absolutely does everything I need or want from a car. It’s comfortable, it’s quiet, it has every creature comfort you realistically need and is built quite well. I am with the crowd that wishes it had a few more ponies but, it’s not truly lacking by any means & the MPGs are outstanding. As I’ve mentioned in other reviews, I plan on driving this puddle jumper till I retire. At my current rate that’s about 300k & I have absolutely no doubt it will make it. And I have to put in a plug for my local Mitsubishi dealer. I also have a 2007 Endeavor. They’ve been great to work with & pretty competitive with their prices when it comes to maintenance. Since Suzuki pulled out of the market, Mitsubishi is my go to.
LOL...the engine noise in the Mirage is beyond horrid, and when u try to accelerate it soudns as if it will blow. With respect, if you refer to this as "quiet" you have no idea what a quiet engine and quiet cabin noise is.
Only one major downside. It's the most dangerous car in America, with highest fatality rating, not because it's small, but because it's structural integrity is sh!t. Just look at the IIHS crash test ratings. Thing is less safe than some old cars made 20 years ago.
Lionel, not to argue for the sake of arguing but... the NHTSA gave it an overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars. US News & World Report gave it fourth place in its 25 safest small cars with 8.3 out of 10. Just for some perspective, the Kia Rio, Chevrolet Spark & Ford Fiesta all scored 4 stars as well. All too frequently, people compare apples to oranges. A prime example of this is the Geo Metro/Suzuki Swift & the Ford F-150. For their respective years, at the time, they pretty much both sustained equal amounts of damage in static barrier tests. The only time that is offset is when the two crash into each other. Of course the sub compact will be victimized by a full size pickup. So will the full size F-150, by a dump truck. So what? Drive defensively & choose the vehicle that suits your situation. If I drove ten minutes to work, I’d likely pick a larger vehicle but, I don’t. I drive an hour & a half... one way. I do so because I make really good money & I like keeping as much of it in my pocket as possible.
Barbara just for perspective, I also own a Ford Expedition & on a scale of one to ten, if the Expedition gets an 8 out of 10 for road & wind noise, the Mirage easily gets 7 out of 10. Not bad considering the price difference. And I never said the engine was quiet. Yep, it’s got quite a growl on acceleration. But maybe, I’m just not as spoiled as you, or maybe I’m more concerned about the likelihood that I’ll still be driving it at 300k. After you’ve owned expensive luxury cars (shit heaps) that fall apart after 100k & can break the bank at Monte Carlo to fix, you learn that proven reliability from a world tested, power plant with a timing chain for example, is far more important than the superficial b.s. Just my humble opinion.
I just checked out your review of this Mitsu and I think it's great. Why? It's honest and you DIDN'T knock it like other reviewers have. It's just a very simple machine. My question: I can't find your road test of the 2020 Mirage. What's the link? Please inform and thanks. Looking forward...Peace! ♐ By the way: I just subscribed!
This car reminds me a bit of my 89 Daihatsu Charade. I have a 2015 SE, with CVT. 46 MPG this morning driving on my commute from Lexington to Frankfort KY. Drove it to Charleston SC last weekend with wife and got around 38.5 average with some luggage. Not bad overall got it used at a dealership for $5800 and a dealer lifetime limited power train warranty at no extra charge
This is an ideal car for: - someone who is short like myself and has friends who are short skinny like myself - someone who lives in a city like New York/toronto - someone who does once a month grocery shopping - occasional and rare driving like from point A to point B - someone who lives in a city (downtown) - someone who wants a fuel efficient and low after sales maintenance cost - someone who needs a car for basic rare use I would totally buy it.
@@chadhaire1711 this is a commuter car, I promise you Its not going to have an exciting and dynamic experience. It's going to be an uneventful drive. Just point a to point b.
@@nikolanikola8543 it underpowered. The wheels are very small. It gets the same gas mileage as a honda fit, and the Honda fit is way more reliable and has 30 more hose power. Get a Corolla or a fit
I would totally buy this car, this car should not be reviewed by someone who is 6ft tall, but anyone who is 5ft and up like me and on city street like NewYork or Toronto.
Mitsubishi is perfect for first time car owners and people who only want a point A to B car. Great gas mileage and a great warranty. If you want looks, go else where Pay for that prettier car that will end up costing you more money and frequent stops at the pump (aka MORE MONEY).
Only one major downside. It's the most dangerous car in America, with highest fatality rating, not because it's small, but because it's structural integrity is sh!t. Just look at the IIHS crash test ratings. Thing is less safe than some old cars made 20 years ago.
Where’s the Drive video? I have to say, I’m worried about updates. These are good simple goods you can buy for cheap that last pretty well. Nissan Bought Mitsubishi. I’m concerned parts from something like the Versa will be utilized. Nissan cars are just awful. They are made cheaply and often have issues.
Funny thing about the Mitsubishi Mirage never got a update of it's style. It's basically looks the same from 2016 - 2024. The 2014 is a bit different. I can't complain it's a basic car for what it's. Great MPG I prefer the hatchback. Has better MPG than the G4 Mirage though the G4 is bigger for passengers.
It reminds me of the 2006 Chevy Aveo I currently own that I bought used for my first car as in how the price of the Aveo and the Mirage were both $13,000 ish for their respective base models
Lulz at the price! You Gotta Be Fn Kidding me! My 2017 Fiesta ST cost $15k. No way I'm going to pay $2k more, for getting much less. Mitsubishi dealers couldn't sell the SE at $14k, dropped their prices to $10k to sell em. This? Probably $7k second hand market, means you can get it at around $13-14k.
Its not really a redesign elsewhere, its more of a refresh. The power train is exactly the same - they only changes are front end and a few bits in the interior. Its basically the same car. We'll be getting it as an early 2021 model a little later in the year. Oh, and its a damned shame you can't get the five speed manual with that sportier trim. Only comes on the base ES.
Thank you for your response! The manual is a hit or miss. Sometimes we'll have them sitting on our lot for months with no interest and then all of a sudden everyone wants them. Manuals are very hit or miss. they work great for anti theft seeing as though few people know how to drive them anymore lol
You are showing the grill on a Mirage G4 as an example of earlier and/or lower levels of the Mirage hatchback grill. The G4 has always had a different front end (and much better looking IMO) than the Mirage hatchback. Different grill, hood and headlights.
Most dealers give $3-4,000 off the sticker, Mitch. I'm sure the Rio is a fine buy, but I wanted something smaller, lighter, and more fuel-efficient. Most Mirage owners can testify that their cars get well OVER the EPA mileage numbers. And my Mirage has all the goodies (I don't need any leather on an economy car!)
Think again. It's the most dangerous car in America, with highest fatality rating, not because it's small, but because it's structural integrity is sh!t.
You would be better off buying 10 $1,500 cars from Craigslist. My commuter car is a 2009 civic I paid $1,500 for a year ago and when it dies I'll just buy another one.
Only one major downside. It's the most dangerous car in America, with highest fatality rating, not because it's small, but because it's structural integrity is sh!t. Just look at the IIHS crash test ratings. Thing is less safe than some old cars made 20 years ago.
$17K jesus IDC if it's new, that's a lot to ask. At most $10k. Considering it's also made in Thailand I got my 2016 fully loaded Mazda 3 hatch for way less than $17K used. More features, and apple car play.
Thailand has a good track record with Mitsubishi in manufacturing. Way better than anything made in Mexico. And the Mirage comes with Android auto and Apple car play, most Mazdas dont even come with a spare tire now but the Mirage does.
Don't do it. It's the most dangerous car in America, with highest fatality rating, not because it's small, but because it's structural integrity is sh!t. Just look at the IIHS crash test ratings. Thing is less safe than some old cars made 20 years ago.
PLZ NOTE; It is my opinion , Mitsubishi has given the worse possible MPG #'s bcuz for some reason, they got fined for falsely predicting mpg YET my Dodge Dart was advertised as 6.49 L/per100km BUT it has produced 7.6 at a boring drive speed. In the real world, our 2015 gets 50mpg in summer ( no A C ) & 43mpg winter with lots of Heat...
I agree that it’s stupid that the Mirage is more updated in other countries but not in the US which makes me wonder if this car will be ditched in the US since it’s not very popular because of the shitty motor
The Mirage has actually increased year over year on sales since its release the end of 2013 while most all subcompacts have lost sales each year. The updated restyled Mirage and Mirage G4 will be out here in less than a year. The engine in these cars is basic but very reliable. I owned a 2015 Mirage 2 years and a 2017 Mirage G4 almost 3 years and now on a 2019 Eclipse Cross SEL. My coworker had her Mirage 5 years last month and has not had 1 issue and still 5 years left on her powertrain warranty to boot. Mitsubishis are great vehicles and undercut the competition on price especially with all the rebates and discounts.
K McKenzie That I guess can be true the main problem I have had was the places I have sought out a Mitsubishi wanted outlandish financing terms on the car and eventually felt for what is offered it a was not worth the hassle plus the Mirage is very scarce in the DC area I ended up in a 2017 Hyundai Accent which is worth more for the money and the terms offered were more than reasonable,
dressshoeguy I owned a 2003 Hyundai Accent GT for 3 years I liked that car alot was a good car. Plus I have owned a 2008 Hyundai Sonata 2010 Kia Soul and 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Always used to purchase Hyundai and Kia they are good cars. Yea some Mitsu dealers can do that well all brand dealers can be bad I have came across that same issue. I am always very careful when buying a car. I travel out of town because where ai live local dealers give no deals cause the small rural area. You have to travel 1-3 hours to get deals out a my area. Renn Kirby Mitsubishi in Frederick gives amazing deals.
K McKenzie I’ll remember that when the time comes. I last went to Auto Giants of Manassas and they totally screwed me over and they offer no deals to speak of.
I disagree my friend. The Mirage has sold triple what was initially projected in 2014. Now its 2020 sales growth each year is in the positive. Wait till the facelifted version hits the streets, quite handsome IMO. I own 2 a 2014 Mirage hatch for Ubering and a 2017 G4 sedan Mirage for family. Its slow as hell and handles like an 80s econobox but Ill be goddamned if it hasnt been a reliable lil workhorse after 60k hard Uber miles. For the money, a good value.
magnuscat Well for a 16 year old who owns a c5 zo6 this car doesn’t appeal to me, however having cams installed on my car negatively impacts fuel economy, so I see what you mean by reliability. I guess it’s for those who see a car as something to get you from point A to B it’s ideal I guess.
@@PRODBYLIIVID Have you seen the mods they are doing in Thailand to the Mirage? Insane how easy it is to swap out an engine outta these lil whips. These are def throwback tuner cars. Sheeeeeeit they had a Mirage, rebuilt with 300 hp 350 torque tearing ass around a dirt track.
@@PRODBYLIIVID 16 years old and you "own" a Corvette Z06? Either you won the lottery, you inherited the car, used an inheritance to buy it, or daddy bought it for you. Insurance for that would be astronomical on top of possible payments, gas, repairs and general upkeep. Tell you what, Jr., grow some hair on your Kiwis, get some real experience, then come back when you're at least 30 years old and we'll talk. Now run along. Bedtime is 10 pm.
Maybe if it looked nice. Maybe blue LED lights and black BBS rims and lowered suspension and al those other bells and whistles that you would have on a Japanese car 🚗🚙🚘
They stopped making them. You could get a stripped Fiesta S for 11 grand last year, SE from r $12,400... cool cars. But Mirage can be had for 10 grand.
I won’t deny buying one without a manual, I’m it’s most basic form, is a poor value. But you won’t pay $7000 more for the LE over a base modelZ $13,0000 after incentives, discounts, dealer discounts at most should be attainable. Otherwise, find a good deal on a Toyota iA or other nicer car. Fiesta is moot. They don’t make anymore. I agree we th you to a degree. They aren’t as reliable, efficient, and roomy as a Mirage and not as cheap (after discounts). They also lack the 10 yr 100k warranty. Best is a 10 grand stick model. I can’t see any reason to go beyond that. But they are a more fun car (when they made it). I considered a S for 11 grand or SE under 12300. But I realized Japanese cars simply do a better job of avoiding expensive repairs and I found the cramped rear seat not accommodating for rear facing car seats. Bought a 15 Scion XB Manual with 30k on it instead for under 11 grand. Got an amazing deal. Toyota makes some of the longest lasting solid cars.
For 17k I just bought a fully loaded 2020 kia rio S , a MUCH better car! My kia has a 1.6L DOHC 130hp 4 cylinder. And much better options! This Mitsubishi is trash...
Hardly trash when it's been a huge success in terms of sales on the worldwide market. I'm happy you enjoy your KIA, but you paid almost $7k more than I did for my Mirage. That's alot of money for my family. Plus the Rio is in a different car class. The only car that is a direct competitor to the Mirage is the Chevy Spark.
magnuscat The sticker price was 17k in my Rio just like the car in this video but I got it for MUCH less because of negotiation and a $2000 rebate.... was $11.500 out the door with taxes and everything.....
There are a lot of factors to consider when calculating the overall cost of a vehicle. The main consideration is Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). The Kia Rio is somewhat more expensive than the Mitsubishi Mirage. Another consideration is the Destination Charge, which is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle to the dealer from where it's built. The Kia Rio and the Mitsubishi Mirage have similar Destination Charges. Since the Kia Rio is much wider than the Mitsubishi Mirage, finding a wide enough spot in a parking lot may be a bit more challenging. If you go with the Kia Rio, you may be circling the block looking for a space large enough to park more often than with the Mitsubishi Mirage. The Kia Rio has a significantly larger turning radius than the Mitsubishi Mirage, making it much more difficult to maneuver in and out of tight spots. When it comes to horsepower, the Kia Rio has a much more powerful engine than the Mitsubishi Mirage. However, something you should consider is that higher horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums. In terms of seating you'll be able to fit the same number of people in both the Kia Rio and the Mitsubishi Mirage. The Kia Rio has significantly less cargo room than the Mitsubishi Mirage, which may be a concern if you do a lot of warehouse shopping. Also its kind of pathetic you thumb your nose at the Mirage, I mean it's a KIA Rio, not a BMW. Sad.
Plus Mirage is Japanese engineered, considered better than Korean and will probably rack up more miles and be better on fuel plus lovely fascinating six cylinder like note from the three over a farty sounding four.
