2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Review - Before You Buy 

I just bought the 1500 eco diesel limited. Paid 50 out the door. I love towing with this truck. It self leveling works great, very quiet, so comfortable, back seats have a lot of room I’m 6’3 and I have plenty of room, handling is great but doing u turns you need some room to make it. I get 28-29 miles a gallon. The monitor is awsome, whoever rides with me can adjust the A/C how they want it. It has a phone charging pad beside being able to plug in your phone in the front and back of the truck. Black leather... I love. Has springs and hydraulic shocks in the back. Tailgate is not heavy anyone can lift it. I have tuns of power when towing. You can adjust the height of your gas and brake pedals, and steering wheel. It is an amazing truck I just love it.!!!!!

Great video and review. Going tomorrow to test drive this same limited. After looking at GM and Ford interiors I think I’ve made up my mind on a new truck. Just no comparisons.

There is a physical button for your heated seats and steering wheel on the 12 inch screen. On the top right or top left, hit the button that shows the temperature. This will cause a drop down screen to appear, where you can select your steering wheel heat on/off and seat (heated or cooled) low/med/high ranges.

There are 4 engine options for the 1500. V6 Pentastar, V8 Hemi, V8 Hemi w/ E-torque, and the EcoDiesel. You just don't have the regular V8 Hemi option in the higher packages like the Limited.

Had a 2016 ecodiesel that had serious throttle response issues so I traded on a 2020 ecodiesel only to find out it had the same problem. After about 7500 miles on my 2020 ecodiesel I noticed it was leaving oil spots in my garage and driveway. Took it to the dealership and it took them 8 days to determine it was the left head gasket. Now, to replace the head gasket the turbo needs to come off. To take the turbo off, the entire cab had to be lifted off the frame so the techs could get to it. Yes, you read that right, the cab had to come off. This is how the jackass engineers designed it. After the head gasket was replaced I had many other issues related to incompetent techs at the dealership. This all started June 1, 21 and my truck is back anthem shop for the 4th time so they could fix their mistakes. I miss the old Dodge trucks. Ever since the trucks were move to the "Ram" brand the quality and dependability have gone to crap. I'll NEVER buy a Ram or Dodge product again.

Do you think with a little bigger tires, that it would help with ride quality of the 22’s? Thanks

What if I do not plan on towing anythithing? Would this be good as my daily driver to go to work everyday 50/50 city/ highway, to go to the store, run errands, etc.. .?

How in the world did you only get 21 to 22 mpg with 90% hwy ??

I don’t have any need for a diesel, but if I did, I’d opt for the Ram 2500 with the Cummins.I don’t know about reliability of Ram trucks, but they definitely are awesome looking inside and out.

I'm buying this in a couple of months from a friend. Out of all of the technological features..the split tailgate seems like the most impressive to me. lol

I got my 2018 eco deisel in 2019 last one on the lot and paid $43k out The door with the Laramie package. Been a great truck so far.

Are there any rebates offered on this to get the price down? An MSRP of $ 69 means the dealer will jack to 75K minimum

Looks like a nice truck, but here are the three most important questions for me: 1) How is the reliability? 2) How is the longevity? 3) How friendly is it for user serviceability? Oh yeah, one bonus question: Can you turn off that cell phone stuff?

I have one 2020 I love this truck but now I have a recall about the full pump , my question is! I need to change my truck because this problem and the discontinued of this engine or will be a good deal in the future

Why didn’t you show the parking assist Obote the 12” screen. It self parallel parks and finds the correct space.

Did FCA fix the oil cooler leaking issue? My EcoDiesel on a 2015 Grand Cherokee cost us over $4,000 in repairs because of a bad part that Jeep wouldn't stand behind. I love the engine but don't want a lemon again.

Fire stinger sure is the fire sting wisher included we need a fire sting wisher inside the engine so when it catches on fire we can extinguish it instead of waiting for the fire 🔥 department

I am on my second Ram 1500 Big Horn, a 2019 that I traded my 2016 for. Both with the 5.7. Great truck, great engine, awesome all weather performance, tow, haul, you name it. Could not be happier, except one thing. I put about 30K miles per year on my truck, and I am not expecting great gas mileage, but next time I trade the diesel might be an option. You said you only got 21-22 mpg with 90 percent highway driving. I get 19-20 mpg, even 21 occasionally, in my 2019. The diesel wasn't available when I traded this past summer. I might go for it next time, but if the fuel economy gain is that small it doesn't seem like it's worth it.

If he is getting only 21 mpg he must be driving it really, really hard. I have a 2020 ecodiesel and have been averaging 28-29 mpg. It really is a great truck, I absolutely love it. I will say I do not have the limited hahaha.

They had a huge end of year sale. My friend got a 1500 EcoDiesel lariet for about 43k or something. I think it was a 9k factory rebate. It’s a nice truck. 12 in tablet center is very cool. Ram trucks are hot or miss on the engine

Dodge really should add a mild hybrid to this truck, would help with fuel economy and add power for better torque and top end acceleration. Would be the best truck on the market.

Still driving my 2014 ecodiesel 179000 miles on it. Actually I work out of it. It is loaded with tool an material all the time.

I had a 2015 eco diesel ,it caught fire I waited 7.5 mos for this truck and let me tell it's not diappointing.i didnt getting tailgate or toolboxes,the ride is awesome ,test drive it remarkable

Had a 2011 RAM 1500 witht he 5.7 HEMI but it guzzled gas and honestly, I don't notice the difference in horse power.. I don't find it laggy and towing is way better. The 8-speed transmission is so smooth. This thing rides so soft. IMO, RAM makes the best trucks as of late. I've owned Toyota, Chevrolet, Ford, Nissan... both Gas and Deisel. This one take it. Get the Gen3 while you can.

They have like a 15k factory rebate right now on these. Not too bad

I just got a 2015 Silverado crew cab LTZ (5.3) for 26K. That’s more my price range and I’m very happy with it lol. But if I had the money I probably would have considered this.

I like my 2017 EcoDiesel price on it was a whole lot more reasonable then this 2020 especially when you're buying it for a work truck that's way too much money you don't need all that electronic technician I don't think or I don't I wouldn't use it so why do I want to buy it make it to where you can get one without all that new technology stuff on that Dash

The price is just insane, and for a work truck? No way anyone would be crazy enough to drive that pricetag onto a construction site.

You must have a lead foot. I get 26mpg combined. Pulling 5500 lbs I got 19mpg.

Eco diesel is problem, in Canada they offering 100k km vs 160k km in states, so my people Surrey FCA

2 buddies bought a 17’ and a 19’. Neither engine made it to 100k. The 17’ had the engine catch on fire. And the 19 needed a 3500$ rebuild

You can save a lot of money by foregoing the unnecessary stuff or overly complicated items: that tricky tailgate will probably last a lot less than a normal one. And 20 inch rims are more comfortable, and have less expensive and less vulnerable tires. Panoramic sunroofs are very expensive and add a lot of weight at the highest point of the truck. (And give a lot of trouble). The overload of chrome looks cheap. Perhaps they have a black option! But if you do a lot of miles, apparently this is the most comfortable full size truck on the market. Hope it has lots of warranty!

69k is cheap compared to GM...you know how uppity they are. And Ford ain't too far behind them either. 85 k for a truck....they out of their got danged mind.

Is RAM doing something with the 5.7? I have no desire for the hybrid system. I hope the reliability of the diesel is as good as the old the old one. IDK however I’m still not sold on Dodge they’re still built cheap the metal is thin and they’re still a rust bucket if you don’t take care of them. I can guess that if you choose that 12 inch screen with all of the climate functions I can see 10 years down the road that not working or acting up.the more technology the easier it breaks after buying any brand truck laying out almost 70K are you trading it in after 4,5 years I don’t think so where I live the conversation I had with a salesman he thinks you need to, grant you it’s his livelihood, but can you afford to do that. I just feel trucks,technology, prices are getting too crazy. I do like RAM for one thing, however and that is they are the only manufacturer that allows you more options and customization when ordering a truck than any of the big 3.

One thing to consider in buying these is political. Certain politicians want to ban the gasoline engine. This has already happened in Europe. A diesel can run on alternative fuels.

People need to stop advertising the crew cabs, 4x4 fully loaded models as 12+ thousand lbs of towing. Thats for a 2wd, single cab, with nothing else but the tow package. Ram has been using the rotary dial for over 5 years, its not new. If you still confuse the radio know for your shifter dial, you just need to play close attention. Btw if you somehow mistake you shifter lever for the radio volume than it has safety features in place to keep you from driving at 80 mph and automatically throwing the thing in reverse.

As nice as this is, no truck should be 70k

Buyer beware Don’t do it I have a 2020 ram eco diesel and been fighting with manufacture since oct of last year they do not want to honor warranty saying my engine seized mind it has less than 8,000 😩

I have an eco diesel , love the truck but sadly because of high diesel prices no advantage’s running a diesel being 1.60 dollars more a gallon , filters are more expensive and don’t forget the def for the environment!!!! Get yourself a gas 5.7 much less trouble . All guys that have had ecodiesel, had trouble with the anti-pollution garbage cost thousands to maintain and finishes deleted for 3500 dollars , so bottom line trouble trouble trouble same goes for the Cummins way too many censors always getting a code or light in the dash board , not that great always being at the dealer have other things to do , bottom line crap 💩

No way I would purchase this truck as a work truck. Way too much money for a truck that will get beat up by the guys riding in it. They don't need all the bells and whistles that this truck offers. If I were purchasing a truck for me, and my family, and it was my only vehicle, maybe... but it's still a LOT of money!

Its Fiat Garbage... Run don't walk away. Chrysler + Fiat and Now Peugeot... Three of the worst automakers... plus now with Peugeot (French) in the mix... that just has Disaster written all over it. Just like when Renault bought Nissan that had horrid consequences for Nissan and Fiat has already pulled out of the US market altogether for the second time.. Built as cheaply as possible with eyewash and glitz for the showroom no sustainable quality for long term real world use. Complete garbage. Again run don't walk away.
