Astonishing how Ram has Risen out of the ashes to be the Greatest pickup Trucks Ever made in History. It's basically a serious Semi truck without looking like a Semi truck.
Great video bud. I enjoy seeing these trucks being used as they were designed to be and not just going to the grocery store. I love mine and making her work seems to make her happy. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
Thank you man! Appreciate it! Ya she works hard almost everyday for sure. Have more tow miles then just drive miles on her lol. She’s a beast everyday. Thank you again! You do the same stay safe out here 👊🏼
I love seeing this! A 3500 with a Cummins is absolutely amazing towing power and capabilities. I have a 2500 and I have yet to hit the limits of that truck for what I use it for.
I subscribe cause you make it look easy, my husband and I will be heading out this month and we will need lots of help with cargo securement done properly, thank you for the videos and responding to us🇺🇸
Good to hear you talk about load placement. I’ve seen way too many idiots put their loads far forward or even up against the tongue. That’s what you call inexperience. When I haul stuff like this, I get people honking at me and giving me a thumbs up. Kinda funny, but cool.
@@IManOPERATOR I can show you a picture of this one guy that came out of Long Beach port. He buckled his tongue by putting a heavy container all the way forward.
My old boss had a 6.7 Cummins he had it deleted and chipped and the power was just ridiculous, it was awesome. I pull with a 6.6 Duramax at work, id never heard any good things about Duramax but after pulling with one for awhile im very impressed with it too.
All these newer trucks make life easier no doubt! I had an older 07 service truck duramax it honestly did good over 300k on it went through a turbo an a few a set of injectors but overall not to shabby for the life it had
53,000 miles on my 2017 Ram 3500 Dually, Aisin, 3.73...of that... 30,000 towing 12,000-15,000 lbs. high profile fifth wheels. I grin on every trip and she hasn't missed a beat.
Love the video Bro, please do much more. Avid watcher of Sam over at V-Belt. I am in Lawn Care and Landscape and I would really love to do what you guys do Tow and Haul Heavy Duty Equipment. I am currently working on my DL's.
If you need to protect metal portions of the deck I would recommend getting a horse stall mat and cutting it down. I put those down and they work pretty well. When I haul the D5 I use tires to load obviously but the flat mats work great for everything else
I was going to get some old conveyor belting but that’s also a very smart idea. Ya I the first dozer I hauled was a d3 and she had her way with the deck for sure 😂
Man you do a very good job video editing, I hope the you tube time pays off in the long run for you. I run my machine shop full time but its good to watch your videos on equipment and Ram towing after work. I also have a 2021 Ram HO. and it shocks the sh_it out of me what you tow.. Ford, chevy, GMC dont try this at home LOL Stay up brother, God Bless
Great content☆,,everything im looking for to start my hotshot Co.I have seen this trailer before,,saves time & heavy duty.nice to see the truck & trailer in action!☆thanks for sharing ☆
Be safe! I'm sure you are and your equipment will handle all that. A good (or just a stickler) DOT officer will ticket you for being overweight. That gooseneck ball is only rated @ 30k. I have essentially the same setup as you, but my trailer only weigh 6300 lbs, I haul for CAT and I won't go bigger than a CP44. My fear is getting into an accident and a good attorney sees that ball rating, then sees th GCVWR of the truck is exceeded and I'm toast. Even if I'm not the one at fault.
I can definitely understand where you’re coming yes technically I’m over by about 2-3k on my ball however from my experience and knowledge officers can mainly fault you if you’re over axle weights and or tires, things in contact with the roadways, any ball system will most likely fail in a collision that and or the neck of the trailer. On average a 40mph wreck will create over 200k lbs of force on any one object something is going to and will fail regardless. I’ve seen at my old job a tractor trailer and an empty lowboy sheet off the 5th wheel of the truck when it got rear ended by another tractor. There’s a lot involved for sure. However 3” ball is in the works to have a true 40k rating on the trailer. Appreciate you. Thanks for the comment
@4:25. Why not wrap the chain from the machine around one of those rollers between stake pockets and then use the binder to sinch the chain after it emerges from the upside of the roller to the chain coming down from the machine so that you won't risk bending that thin metal bar or the hook bounces out down a bouncy county maintained road.
Great question, that rub rail is much thicker than you think, and using the roller to tie back up the machine actually binds up the binder making it contact with the chain making it twist and hard to tighten down to the machine there’s not enough separation between to the two make it easy and not become a pain in tying down equipment
Like a musquito to a musquito lamp, some people just have to cut off the truck towing! I tow with my 1995 cclb f350. Nothing nearly this heavy and usually about 60mph. For safety I use the slow lane and everything.
It never fails. Things I’ll never understand n life. I used to haul even heavier equipment with a tractor trailer grossing about 120k lbs and you just get used to getting cut off. Apparently people would rather die then getting stuck behind you 😂
Thanks man. They are BFgoodrich AT2 tires Love them but with the weight I tow I’ve dusted them down to nearly nothing with in 12k miles If you don’t tow like I do on the near daily they’ll last much longer for sure but over all love them just wish they lasted longer. I do have a video on them somewhere on my page did it just before winter
I've never loaded a CAT sheepfoot roller but I believe you should be able to make them run just on the tires and that roller won't slip so much climbing the bed. I haul for Sunbelt and a driver told me about it and I've never known for sure on how exactly to do it on every different machine but I know if it slips I start messing with the controls until I get it to climb ok.
Cummins baby cummins ford and gm can't touch the ram family!!!!!!! Got a 2018 3500 68rfe tuned been oilfield its whole life not one problem! Got 5 cummins and can't wait to buy my 2022 cummins
WOW I never realized like Witnessed how friggin important trailer brakes are. I understand how important they are but Seeing this and what happens with them off definitely ensures I won't be stupid and Ever pull a heavy load without em
Awesome video man I too am an operator and I'm not trying to be "that guy " just curious ...around here ( Rhode Island ) when I got my class a cdl we were all taught that if you hook any binders or chains to the outside of the rub rails they will consider it an unsecured load and also over width .just a heads up
Naa you’re good man. I’ve head stuff like that and I’ve never seen or heard of a dot officer fine someone on that. I’ve spoken to officers around here told me if anyone does get you in that to give them his phone number. Think about it also you can tow a full size truck and the mirrors stick out farther then the trailer but it’s not a wide load by any means . Biggest thing on chains and binders, if there is a binder handle sticking far past the deck of the trailer or a chain swinging from the deck that can cause a hazard.
Thats good .I know around here something like the mirrors on a truck sticking out they would get you for same with snow pushers that are over width you got to haul it the long way on a trailer .same goes for plows on trucks bit like you said it all depends on the officer you get too
Just wondering have yoh ever considered a winch just to give a little bit of a tug as u creep up on there. It would probaly keep it from spining and slipping if you just kept the winch tight as u come up
Honestly a good idea. Never thought of it however with that idea makes a few issues and complicated things also. Always meeding two people Plus that machine if it slips back and the cable breaks going to be a bad day
I tow at this weight every week and sometimes 2-3 times in a week. Trans is solid, did the 30k service on it, I’m at about 38k miles now, Brakes are still in speck being oem, I will be doing the brakes soon though. 1/2 wore down is trash for me. Egt don’t know and don’t care. Truck will derate its self if egts get to high.
Just a tip, I mean no disrespect but when you chain to the trailer, you’re supposed to wrap the chain around the cylinder and back on itself. I noticed you just hooked to the rub rail, the rub rails aren’t meant for or rated for that. But good video, I’ve got a 3500 mega cab and I love it.
Such huge machinery. What type of salaries do these guys make? Do they own these vehicles or are they company owned since I'm sure they're very expensive?
I’m just a small business, own everything I haul besides what I rent like this compactor. I pay myself the bare minimum to keep a roof over my head the rest goes into investing to new equipment and whatever else might be needed. Yes everything is very expensive
What kind of trailer do you have GN22HTDS? I want to make sure that when I buy a trailer it's pro-rated to haul the same thing. Also can you haul a D6????
Not being a jerk, just a heads up. Some dot don't like the binder on the outside of the rub rail. They like it inside the rail and hooked to the pocket. If you get a real prick he may try and screw with you. I've had my share of pricks. I have over a million miles hauling oversized loads in a big truck with a low profile step deck.
Not at all I appreciate it. I have my own dot officer I’ve known since I was a kid I’ve asked him this before he said ya technically it’s not right however if anyone is to give you a hard time about that and only that just tell them to call me. Since he’s their superior over here in Northern California lol. But no one I’ve seen around my parts have ever been harassed about that. 6 years hauling Lowbed and now this never even ran into a conversation about it.
Yes, this is and I have a class A CDL for hauling this set up. In my Dump truck video I talk About this a little bit and also in a few other videos hauling equipment with this truck
@@IManOPERATOR and of course you just reply woooow! If you do not go to heaven Idk who would go! Anyway quick question boss: About to buy a 3500 ram I already own a 3500 DRW Tradesman but towing/hauling capacity sucks for what I would do … What kind of 3500 you have to get your GCW so high like that? GOD BLESS YOU AGAIN MAN!
@@rorotkt16 hahaha thanks my man. So your best way to get max payload definitely is a single cab truck however make sure you get the 4:10 gears, HO Aisin max tow combo truck. From there you can get better GCW with better wheels and tires like gojng to 19.5s like I did with my truck, since the oem tires that come on these trucks are well below the capacity of the axles themselves
@@IManOPERATOR of course man! Just wanting to know if up to 34,010lbs with the HO aisin & 4.10 ratio is good enough for what you doing? Reason im asking is because I seen a truck I went and on the Ram website with the vin it says up to 34,010lbs towing capability. Good enough for what you doing? Sorry to bother!
@@rorotkt16 ram puts a towing capability for marketing and for how the truck currently sits Axles hold more weight than the tires can handle on the truck oem. With the right axle/tire rating like how my truck sits it’s good for 54k lbs GCW
Thank you, personally I would go with a 3500, I’m not sure the amount of weight you want to be hauling everyday. Being in the hwy with 4:88 gears you’ll be at 2300 rpm or so doing 70mph with the 3500 4:10 gears you’ll be at 2k rpm Little bit more comfortable ride also, plus you can get the HO since 4500-5500 are SO trucks 5500 is a much heavier duty truck however it can limit you in ride quality. 3500 is a solid all’s round hauler and having that 1000 ft lbs does make a huge difference
Hi there. You are right I was investigating and of that type of specifications on the truck RAM 3500 2022. What I have the doubt that I can use the trailer of 40 ft is to make Hotshot. You know it is a very hard job that is why I ask you.
I have a 2020 550 diesel, 11,200# 40' hydra-dove that I put 32,000# of steel pipe on. That dodge would have thrown its guts up trying to pull it! Ford is where it's at. F350-F550 can't get anything better for light duty or medium duty from the factory!
I have on average 15-20% weight in my rear axle sometimes you just break loose. These trucks just have so much first gear torque. And the drag of the load just amplifies it. Sometimes could be dirt on the ground or oil who knows but it’s happened a hand full of times out of no where then won’t happen again. Just things you want to be careful of, you can definitely nap axles or a pinion that way
It would be maxed out nearly all the time, would do me no good sadly. Some loads yes however I tow a lot of the same equipment many times and I have good reference points for good safe rows
All the equipment I haul if for my business. If you want to just haul for hire there’s more involved with it. However it all starts with getting your class A and get a truck trailer there’s lots of companies that hire owner operator trucks to haul their stuff or to dispatch you to go all over the country
Towing is dangerous if you don't know how, most people destroy trucks and the blame it on the manufactures not knowing how to work the truck. You know your truck limitations, on mine I feel everything trans/diff/engine limits. I seen people towing on the last freeway lane going 75 loaded crazy people.
There's a reason 90+% of hot shot drivers buy a Ram with a Cummins and a Aisin to feed their families. The guys that buy Ford Powerjokes and Chevy, I mean Isuzu DirtyMax's starve out.
I’ve had this girl for about 7 months now, I have a buddy that’s had his for 2 years as of last month if I remember right. This is by far the best investment you can make it will treat you right and work as hard as you do. It surpasses PJ in every way from design, weight, service, quality and biggest thing no dove tail trailer lifts more than DC my tail can lift 10k lbs and support it on the tail. PJ and load trail only lift 4K I think and it’s not a cam over system it’s a mechanical lock. This tail has no way to fall when lifted back up in its tow position much safer and much heavier duty.
Appreciate you answering didn't know PJ could only lift 4,000 lb and it is good to see someone on here that knows what the hell they're doing when they're hauling equipment appreciate it
Ya man you know it. I definitely test things like crazy on what I have and use. Always happy to share the truth. The real world never is shown on a add for a trailer. More than happy to show what things are able to and unable to do. Real world working 🤘🏼
Have lots of other videos towing with this beast on my channel, towing the water truck was definitely the best test I could have done for the tail of this trailer and I hauled that about 4 times
Upping from the 3500 to the 4500 main changes are wide track front axle, larger rear end and larger breaks on the truck, also getting the option to have lower gear ratio. Back half of the frame is heavier for cargo use and heavier suspension all around on the truck. However the one down fall is a derated motor you can’t get the 4500-5500 in the HO configuration
I have an 11 single cab dually, when I'm towing about 25k the wheels will skid under hard breaking, very sketchy. I've always wondered if a crew cab being heavier would help prevent locking wheels up.
That’s pretty odd to have that happen. Maybe mess around with your weight distribution on the trailer. And also yes having a heavier truck always helps out too.
Did you actually weigh that whole thing at the truck weighing scale station to "confirm" it's actually at 47,000 lb of GCW or did you just guess and roughly estimate it to be around 44,700 lb of GCW????
Didn’t cat sale it, just took my unloaded weight that I know and add what the tag weight is on the roller. Cats been pretty accurate with that too so it’s a good guess round number
It’s a cp4. The way I’ve been using my truck I’m sure it would have failed by now if it wanted to. Other wise whatever happens happens, trucks got its 8 year 125k warranty 🤷🏻♂️ if I get a wild hair I’ll do the updated swap but it’s really not on the top of my list
I’ve been averaging about 12-14 not towing but anytime I’m not loaded it’s driving in the mountains last time I drove over the winter not towing flat ground I was getting 12 doing 75-80 on the hwy but I had a crazy head wind Best I’ve ever got was 16
Got tons more videos on this trailer on my channel if you want to know more. Especially the video when I first bought it. Have a good comparison between the two trailers But it’s an FMAX216 30’ deck, 32,800 rated 40k weight distributed trailer
Have a few more videos pulling grades I try to always say the rpm, speed and temps when I’m going up and down. On flat land like with this tow, engine temps never go over 210 and trans temps stay around 170 unless in town getting red lights then I’ll spike up to 177-185 but anything just hauling on the highway trans stays 167-175 and engine will keep at about 205 on a hot day too.
@@IManOPERATOR that’s the same I see. My new 2022 3500 saw 240 oil and 230 trans the other day... after Hauling Heavy and in park “cooling down” while going down the road all temps were normal. You ever see this? Dealer says normal...
@@thehustlelife481 ive never seen that high if temps with my truck. Not even the dead heat of summer highest oil temp I think I’ve seen was 225 transmission temp hasn’t gone over 220ish I’m not sure if it’s even gone that high but it’s gotten hot sometimes mainly when the torque converter isn’t locked
54k combined weight the way its scaled and registered. Weight sits about 19k empty so sits about 35k lbs of payload technically, Never ever towed that heavy nor will I.
@@IManOPERATOR I know that their 3" ball is rated for 40k but the receiver kit they make for bolting to my truck is only rated for 30k. Do they make heavier rated kits for your truck?
Just a good old GoPro hero 8 👌🏼 it does like to overheat a lot when it’s over 95 outside but other than that it’s been a great camera I throw that thing around like a hammer all day
@@IManOPERATOR not to shabby. Technically your overloaded at about 600 lbs. the ram dually h.o long bed crew cab is good for about 43400 GCWR I believe, but don’t hold me to that… either way, it pulled like a champ. Really making it hard to decide between a 2023 f450 and a Ram 3500 DRW
@@Subi_doo GCWR is 54k lbs for this combination. Not even close to being overloaded. And honestly if you like the power feel but a ford. If you like to have an exhaust brake that’s worth anything buy the dodge. How I see it living in the mountains going up and down 6-8% grades each and every time this truck handles it very well. My new excavator and buckets on the deck I sit about 48k combined
@@IManOPERATOR the added up GCWR might be 54k for you truck gvwr and trialer gvwr, but the manufacturer, RAM, says their ram 3500 dually, crew cab long box, had a max GCWR for their truck and trialer is 43,400 lbs. I have the ram weights page from the dealer. The cab and chassis tow less
@@IManOPERATOR I’m trying to run a 30k trailer, but I’m concerned about pin weight, and rolling through scales. The manufacturer says 43k is their max GCWR, so I’m assuming, you don’t get on the freeway with that kind of weight, let alone go through scale houses. I’m sure with those weights, you’d be in for a big surprise. No doubt the Ram can handle pulling it, but it’s not rated for it by the manufacturer.
1/2-3/8 hooks don’t fit between a rub rail. That’s an old outdated law/myth that I never understand the reason behind it. Rub rail is the most secure restraint for all loads however you attach or use it.
Best part about owning your own cluster. I do accept ram 5500 donations though. Plus check your flat bed make sure it even built the right way to handle this weight. Seen many with weak and little welds Better chance of the ball-in the flat bed to fail if not built the proper way
At less your not pulling it with a Ford. You can go but you can’t stop with the Ford pulling that heavy load. You will burn up the brakes up with that heavy load behind you pushing you.
Couldn’t tell you yes or no. I’m not a Chevy person. Biggest thing for me the cummins has the best exhaust brake system. Hold weight back extremely well. I don’t see why not for a Chevy I’m sure it has the power for it and capability for it. Just stay safe out there don’t haul past your comfort zone
It’s a gooseneck ball. And yes they have the 3” ball for this trailer. I have a 2 5/16 right now on it. Going to up it to the 3” ball soon for some extra beef.
I can tell you what the problem is your chaining on the tail too much up play on that junk need to cross chain on articulated equipment or put the lock bar in place Dot can write a ticket for no cross chain or lock bar
There is no problem the way I hauled this machine. There’s little to no play at all on the tail of this trailer. No need to cross the chain when you’ve already achieved 45 degree of angle when chaining down (which is optimum) no clue what you’re taking about for the lock bar, dot can’t ticket you due to “how you chained” with in limitations of course, 1 being you have over 50% of towing weight chained down, you have chains tied in or tied out in pairs (min) all other chains or straps for cautionary and or to support up to your 50% of weight. If you’re taking about the “lock bar” for the tail of my trailer, there is no such thing. It’s a camover system that locks itself the tail with hydros has to cycle to “unlock” the tail. If that’s what you’re talking about.
I wanted the 3500 since it ad the HO motor option and I also use my dually for longer trips at times more comfortable ride plus the truck itself is lighter allowing it to tow more weight. 4500-5500 are great trucks if you need the truck for payload capacity and or if you want lower gearing since you can get 4:56-4:88 if I remember correctly. My truck is a 4:10, honestly making it awesome for hauling heavy and on hwy I sit at 2k rpm going 70 mph vs doing 70 at 2300-2500 rpm like a 5500 would do
Cat CP568 weight can range from 14k to 26k lbs. Trailer weighs no more than 4k lbs which means you are nowhere hear 44k lbs. Some Ram fanboy is going to kill himself because he thinks he can put 40k lbs on a truck because of your video. On a Ford you could get away with it not a dodge tho. 😉
This is a cp56B which weighs 26k lbs if you watch my videos I cat scaled my truck for it’s empty gross combined weight. You honestly think a trailer of this capability and size weights only 4K lbs? I suppose if it was to be made of titanium and carbon fiber. It doesn’t take me for idiots on the road to over load their truck, what I do is legal in every factor. Currently weight these days I’m in the 45/47 range with my new machine. I personally will never use a ford for the mountains I tow up and down on. With the transmission temps they display and the lack of engine braking they are capable of. No thank you.
That’s funny because the majority of dually trucks I see on the roads in different states doing hotshot are Rams, I do see Ford F-350 & F-450’s along with Silverado & Sierra 3500 hd’s here and there too but the majority are Rams.
