LOVE it! keep it coming!! I especially appreciate the lack of wheel well inside the camper. Much better use of space, even with the giant tires. That frame must have taken some serious planning. sometimes a blank slate is harder than tweaking an existing platform. Good creativity.
Great built, currently building mine as well and following along for ideas. I have set up a 2013 ram 5500 crew cab with the extended wheel base, aluminum deck with cabinets and have placed a 2020 northern lite 10-2 on the deck. Next is the buckstop single wheel conversion kit. Notice one thing you may want to change on your rear four link, turn the bottom four link rod so that the adjustment bolts are inward, this will avoid any damage to the bolts.
Ben Johnston yes sir, funny you mention that, that’s still on my todo list. Also wanted to relocate the parking park cable. The bolts and cable how you see here are how the Kelderman instruction said to do it. But I agree with you 100%, it’s lot ideal
Thank you for doing these videos. I'm planning a similar build once my custom order arrives. Ram 5500 Crew Cab 83" CA. I appreciate your sharing insights, as you said it's hard to find much out there.
Really enjoying watching this come along. Great videos and build ideas. If I didn't need a mega cab (there's 5 of us) I would do a 4500/5500 to get the extra GVWR.
Adam Saint-Prix think you very much sir. It’s been a super fun project and good quality time with friends. I hear ya with the mega cab argument. Many folks in the same boat
Awesome job 100% but put the studs and spacers on the back end so you can flip the wheels to match the front so it's a true big tire 1.5 ton single wheel. Make it match. I did it with my 08 F.450.
Pls Video the full frame flex with the new self leveling subframe like you did in part 3. Raise one wheel way off the ground and show us how the subframe stays level. I dont see how those springs are going to keep the camper from torquing when the frame twists. Tks
RAM 5500 CAMPER THING thank you for letting us learn from your work. I am VERY interested to see this working and leveling before anything gets put on it and covers over any information I might gain. Tks again
I don't know if the bung sizes are the same on those viair tanks, but they do offer a drain for air tanks that has a spring loaded valve that you can pull with a wire loop that can be secured in an easy-to reach spot so that you can empty them on a daily walk-around. They have them on commercial trucks with air brakes.
GREAT BUILD! Do you talk about (in any of your videos) how you worked around the rear lights. I'm assuming you have a single feed for brake and turn signal on the RAM? I have a 2005 Ford F350 (Expedition Overland Flatbed Camper Build) with similar euro lights. Tried the 2-3 trailer converter it worked great. But everyone (my mechanic & internet) said they burn out. Plus I did you figure out the work around to avoid the fast blink being LED. Compared to traditional bulbs. Thank You ~Mark (& Teresa)
Love your videos. Can you tell me where you got the shock bolts that hold the subframe to the chassis? Are they even called shock bolts? Lol...thanks for the videos, they had a part in my decision to get a 2500 cummins and do the same as you....but a little different. Thanks again
Hello, I'm Sergio Mirallas from Spain, Europe, I have seen all your videos of the Dodge camper and they are great, thank you very much for sharing. I am making something very similar with a Ram 3500 and my only question is what size and hardness of the sub frame springs, can you tell me the measurements of the long diameter number of turns or where I can get them? Thank you very much for sharing.
I’m building a Ram 5500 with Bigfoot camper and custom bed frame / storage box build about to start. Kelderman on order. Question.. the spring deck mount system you have, is that a kit or custom build? If custom might you have specs on the springs? Apologies if that’s answered somewhere and I missed it.
I just put a link to them in the description of this video. So far, they’ve been perfect! These are the same ones I ran on my last truck also. Love them. Link is above now. Thanks
Nice built!!! and excelent source of information. I would like to know what kind of plastic you use to separate de subframe from the chasis and what thickness. How did the subframe and springs worked out? If you have the contact of the people that build your subframe, it will be awesome. Thank you
Thank you sir. It’s that HDPE stuff between subframe and chassis. I just installed my 3rd set of springs to try out snd haven’t been Offroad yet. I’ll post updates when I finally get it out to test it. Thanks for the comment
Very rad. We purchased a Sprinter prematurely and should have just ordered a damn box. Did total composites (assuming thats who you are using) give you an estimate on weight? We are deciding on whether or not to go 3500 or 5500 once we sell the sprinter. Thanks!
Garrett Moon yeah, for a cab over 10 box, roughly 1200lbs empty. The 5500 is a no brainer versus the 3500. The pros FARRR outweigh the cons and having to dime every pound you add to a 3500
I bought a Ram 5500 and Bigfoot camper. Now the storage bin build starts. Point of this reply is I just sold my Sprinter. After owning it nearly 5 years I got exactly what I paid for it. Woo hoo.
Heidi B the trucks chassis/frame is very flexible and a solid fiberglass box is not. Without a subframe that flexes with the frame, the box would crack quickly. The springs are to hold it all in place while it flexes
They are manually inflated with standard fill ports at each corner. I've gone back and forth about plumbing it all into the cab, but it works so good right now, i am not sure i want to mess with it and add more possible failure points.
3:50 I've had noting but issues with my ARB twin compressor.... always shearing/losing the eccentric on the motors, gave up on them after replacing/repairing every 6 months.... it was kept in a ventilated box right next to a group 27 battery and it literally crapped out every other time I used it.
It's good I found your page and it has already save me a ton on buying the wrong stuffs etc. Do you think the "flex spring mounts" can be add into existing flatbed? If I plan to put an articfox camper with spring load tie down, would the spring mount still necessary? I am also in San Diego area, thanks a lot for the link of local business!
Billy Z I’m still not sure about these flex springs and if they’re gonna work. I’ll know more in a couple weeks. What truck do you have? Some trucks have closed frames that don’t flex enough to need the springs
I have 18 F350 that I am debating if I should do super single/flatbed upgrade or get a 17 or 18 F550/5500 and go all out like you. One concern of F550 crew cab + 83CA 12 foot bed is it might be too long for the Baja rough road. Any thoughts?@@RAM5500CAMPERTHING
Have you thought about tuning and deleting it? Not necessarily a straight pipe, but get rid of all the government mandated garbage? Love the build by the way, it’s gonna be badass🇺🇸
