I like what Chevy did with the custom packages. It's allowing you to get a trail boss on the exterior but allowing us to either get all the bells and whistles by going up to the $60,000 or for us who don't want all them bells and whistles an wants a truck to be a truck you can get that at about $20,000 less
I got the custom. I’m added telescoping steering column, power seat, leather, fog lights; leather steering wheel all oem parts from eBay. Makes a huge difference, did all the work myself and saved a lot.
@@sweetscienceboxinggym5646 do you know if you can swap out the gauge cluster on these without it being reprogrammed?? I’m not talking about switching to the digital clusters like in the high country, I’m talking about the one that’s in the high end Trail Boss. I would probably do the same thing you did, just get on eBay and switch out all the things I don’t like about the Custom.
@@jonchase7752 eBay sells replacement seat covers/ only thing missing is leather cover for the folding armrest. That is a GM dealer only item. I ordered the power driver and passenger seats plus the rear seat with storage compartment off a wrecked vehicle from eBay/ Looked into telescoping steering wheel and was too much work. Once I could adjust the seat my short self was able to get better position. I looked into the gauges; that too is a mofo. Programming required and also loss of some functionality I believe is what kept me from doing it/
Honestly I think the LT is not as good looking as the Custom package. I prefer the simple interior without any bullshit push button start, no automatic start and old school halogen headlamps. Keep it simple stupid. Great video. P.S ya'll talk funny in Maryland lol, I've lived in Mississippi for too long haha
They have this exact same truck at my local dealership and I’m really debating on if I want to take my 2017 Texas Edition and trade it in. Of course my 2017 has dual climate controls, heated seats, fog lights, multiple USB, center storage console, and a lot of other options you won’t find in this truck. I just don’t know how bad I will miss my interior options or if it’s worth it to me. I’m sure I could replace most of the parts with ones from a salvage Trail Boss but I don’t know if I’d want to go through the trouble. This is a really nice looking truck though! Guess I should go take a look at it and see if it’s worth it or not. Great video!
Really good review, I just got one about two weeks ago. As for storage space husky makes a nice storage space for under the rear seats that’s nice for around 150$ and I’ve seen some other that are lockable starting around 300$.
My dad works as an independent contractor so he’s always out on the field. He could get any truck he wanted, but he likes very simple vehicles without any bells and whistles(Not even bluetooth). The exterior is amazing and a great looking truck for the price. I think the interior is too plasticy and looks very dated. Only getting a split bench seat sucks but consoles mean more money upfront. Overall great exterior but interior could use some work.
Snow rating is a gimmick (at least as far as driving on highway). Radial tires work in the snow because they’re self cleaning and maintain a flatter contact patch than bias tires. Learned this in Illinois in the late 70s back when “radial snow” was the tire to have. People got around fine with plain old radials in back and bias in front. BTW you can’t run radials in front and bias in back because the lack of lateral movement will fatigue and break the belts. The rear of the car is supposed to move laterally and the front isn’t. Thanks for posting great video!
I got the 2020 LT TrailBoss... if you’re looking to save money, right on but with the sales I left the lot at $44,300 - I got everything I need for my needs. Price is too good to not go LT, IMO. Awesome truck though bro!
I have an LT Trail Boss. It's definitely big step up. The Screen is larger and has much more functionality. The LED headlamps and Fog lamps are biggest win. The LT has 4 USB ports also sport mode.
Years ago the OEMs spec’d rubber to be of a certain quality. It was always a better tire than what you could buy on your own. That’s not the case today. They’re spec’d to meet a price point, and in the case of light-duty trucks, spec’d to meet a specific rolling resistance for the CAFE numbers.
I just bought the trail boss lt with every option the Savings of the custom wasn't worth it too me after looking at the big 3 and all options but the custom is still a nice truck for the budget
The trail boss comes with the AFM (active fuel management) the old fuel management. I have the same truck. They just don’t come with the new fuel management (dynamic fuel system) It turns into a v4 when you are on cruise control or at a stop. I advise you to get a range device to keep it in V8. The AFM over time will destroy your engine.
Thanks for the clarification Jonathan! With the low end display, I don't get to see it changing like I did on my 18 LT. I'm not sure if it is the transmission then or what, but I don't feel that lag and power loss like I did on my old 5.3 and 8 speed.
I've been looking at trading in my 2015 GMC Duramax for a 2020 Trail Boss. Only thing I would really like to see on the custom trim is steering wheel radio controls and to have the center console open up for storage. I'll probably end up having to get an LT traill boss, but guess that's by GM design lol
Good vid man. But two things. One, the compound is not cheaper on those Goodyears. They are at the very least the same tire with the same ratings as the after market ones. Some claim that because GM has good year make them specifically for that truck that the quality control is actually higher. At the very least tho they are the exact same tire. Those tires will do just fine in the winter. And two, you DO have a fuel management system in that 5.3. I have a 2015 and you have the exact same motor and transmission that I have in my truck. The difference is you have AFM (active fuel management) and the newer 5.3 as well as 6.2s that are mated to the 10 speed transmission have dynamic fuel management. AFM only shuts down 4 cylinders at a time. DFM shuts down up to 6 cylinders depending on throttle load. I had the AFM on mine deleted. I've heard nothing good about that system. Not that it makes the engine unreliable but it can cause things to go bad quicker from what I've heard from personal mechanics as well a lot of people online. IE fuel injectors and such. Now that being said I do get about 2 miles less per gallon since it's been shut off. I also have way smoother and better throttle response as well tho and to boot the transmission seems less confused than with it turned on. Not trying to be a know it all. Just wanted to chime in about the 5.3 that is in your truck. Awesome vehicle man. As soon as I get mine paid for I'm getting a Trail Boss. You have a very nice truck sir.
My old truck was an 18 and the AFM was noticeable when it shut down cylinders. I do have one on this, but you don't notice it., Looks like they smoothed it out.
I boughta 19 trailboss custom new last sept and love it. No storage or multiple USB ports is my only gripe. 33k out the door. Those tires go great in the snow. I put a boss htx v plow on mine and it plows great. I did get remote start and a button to drop the tailgate. Get the rear wheel well covers...it will pack the mud and snow up in there if you dont. I like the looks of the custom better than the lt anyway. Hoping to find a deal on a center console out of a wreck, I miss that extra cubby.
The convenience packages don't look so important when they add $2k+ to the truck, but if not it's just an annoyance. It's like they sat there and tried to get on your nerves with things. :D I'm trying to be Zen and just minimize stuff... I'm like some clutter clearing Karen with my choices and cleaning it regularly.
where do you live lol? the best price I can find here in southern california is 38k, that's not including my taxes though. 46,690 is the msrp. i deal with the fleet people too because they have an agreement with my union at work.
It’s a not a spacer lift it’s an actual suspension lift. If you look it up you can watch TFL doing a interview with a GM engineer about the trail boss package.
The trail boss is not a spacer lift. It’s a true suspension lift in the front with a larger block in the rear. Also the lt coMes with the 5.3 with the 10 spd for 2020 with dynamic fuel management and the cylinders can shut down all the way to 1-2 3-4 5-6 etc cylinders. And btw I never can feel it like I could on my 2014. The custom comes with the 5.3 with 6 speed with active fuel management which is v4 - v8 only which is the old system. Also the lt has sport mode and off road mode and many other options. But the custom is a nice option for the price
Mike Hodgens why does everyone advertise this truck as having a body lift then? I still wouldn’t buy it anyway..just seems stupid that info on this truck is not correct.body and suspension lifts are two totally different things
thanks for the review. Been shopping for a while and will be making an upgrade from the 08 Silverado sometime this year. What was the sale/sticker price you started with to get them down to 36k? They're going for 39.9 sale prices in the South Jersey market. GORGEOUS truck.
It's all discounts and rebates. Just wait for the right time and follow the sales. Then ask for 1 little extra. I got the remote start thrown in for free...
The consul if you want to buy it through GM it cost me about $800 I'm going to try to find it in a junkyard probably get it for 500 or 600 I have the same truck except its red I like it
Nice vid and truck but I think all trucks have out lived thier over pricing and lack of options... It's some what affordable but lacking key features or way overpriced with alot of crap u won't use.
Is the extra 6k worth for the trail boss package? My local GMC dealer (Texas) has several custom trim levels with 4wd going for around 31k before rebates. Wouldn’t it be more practical to pay the lower price tag and do the lift and off road tires for a much cheaper price? I’m only bringing this up because my dad is looking to buy his last truck before retirement and he is not so sure on spending so much on a truck when in reality he only needs a basic truck to haul around small loads and get from point A to point B
Great question, that's up to you. There is also a difference in wheels, grill, skid plates and bumper. Not sure about the exhaust. You could of course do it piece by piece depending on your budget, time and what you want custom. For me, it was everything I needed I'm not planning any changes and everything is buttoned up nicely from the factory and that takes away some of the worry about add ons.
How you get that truck for 36,000.00? Rebates coupons, everytime i go to a dealer they try and rip me off with warranty etc, i have a 2016 2500 chevy duramax, i really want a trail boss
they can only "rip u off" if you allow them to. Tell them what you want and stand your ground. Do not be afraid to get up and walk out if things get to far out of hand. That will show them you mean business and might even bring a better deal. Dealers hate to see someone walk out without a deal. When you walkout, 9 times out of 10, they will stop the BS rip off talk.
I have Facebook Chevrolet put advertise on it I click on it that took me to a website which had multiple vehicles on it I click on the trucks then it put up dealerships around me I pick one which showed me the trucks they had in stock with pictures, sticker price and sale price. I saved the ad to my phone and took it with me. Now dealerships make money by ripping you off you can’t let them. Don’t be afraid to walk away there will be another truck tomorrow and most of the time the dealerships will call with a better deal
You say that "they cheaped" out on certain parts but really "you" cheaperd out on the things. You should have bought a LT then. Just saying. I bought my 19 LT TB for 40k out the door. Yes new. If only it had cooled seats.
Why does everyone talk so highly about this truck? It’s nothing special..on the plus side at least Chevy finally realized that tires are round.i would rather buy a normal truck and lift it and do larger tires myself.it will not void your warranty..there is just some shitty dealership’s out there that will tell you that it will.if something goes wrong with your truck the dealership has to be able to prove in court that your lift caused the problem.if they cannot prove that 100% they have to cover it.
Good god that interior is atrocious. Man get what you pay for so to speak and it shows in the interior. Exterior looks great and the interior is so cheap. Like a work truck but for 36k! Jeez
Here’s the review I’ll save u 10m, don’t buy a Fukn base model custom and get the 6.2 LT . Your 5.3 and even transmission is different in a custom and interior is embarrassing it’s worth my extra 68$ a month especially for the led headlights. Your truck compared to mine you’d regret it every day not spending a few extra grand. Ps I paid 47k$ out the door for every option and a custom order color.
