I recently rode the Suzuki SV650, a bike that I have very much looked forward to riding. Just the concept of it appeals to me just a simple motorcycle with no fancy electronics that puts a smile on your face. So after a day of riding it in towns, on country roads and dual carriageways here is my review of it. Please see the technical specifications below:
Price: £5499 (including current £500 off offer)
Power: 56.0 kW @ 8,500 rpm (76 PS)
Torque: 64.0 Nm @ 8,100rpm (47.20 lb. ft)
Engine capacity 645 cc
Kerb Weight - 198kg

have a 2019 SV650ABS. Fantastic bike. Cant go wrong with it. Engine is a peach, and with the upgrade to the brakes that Suzuki made in 2019 rides and stops very well.

I trained for and passed my A1 test on a SV650 so it's a special bike for me. Has something for every type of rider and as you say, cheap as chips not to mention bomb proof. You can spec a nicer (and slightly higher) seat for it - the one that comes as standard on the SV650X.

Phil Bennett it does indeed. Great bike. Yeah you can but apparently the roll seat is even more uncomfortable according to reviews of the sv650x. I know Mcn long term tester changed his for the standard Sv one.

I've got a 2019 SV650, I love it. I have changed the seat for a Caulfield leather custom seat. Really comfortable now, stock seat gets a bit hurty after about 100 miles, custom seat, lovely and comfy. Perfect all round, good value bike. Good review by the way

I have 2019 version and I am very happy with it. Really all do bike. Enough power and enough comfortable for 300 to 400 km daily. Otherwise very economical if you dont push it too hard. You can do 300 km out of one tank easily. By the way nice review.

I've been on a vespa the past 3 years but really want to get into the bikes, im debating between an SV650 and Honda rebel 500 (probably). I'm a bit nervous to test drive because I don't want to risk having an accident and forking out thousands in excess Thanks for your vid!

Maty in Thailand as far as I know the only change between yours and this is I think in 2018 they fitted a larger tank. I could be wrong though.

I really fancy an SV650 as a project bike, would love to do somit with an early one and get crazy, or something a little more refined with the more recent cafe racer version

This years silver/blue combo is very handsome. Sadly in the US, the ABS model is black on black only. Suzuki releases the weirdest colors with their bikes, especially the SV. Most years I absolutely hate it. I hope they bring back the red color they used when the current model first launched in 2017! I would definitely have the silver/blue if it came fitted with ABS in the states.

G M It does look good. Ah I forget that not all bikes in the US don’t have to have abs. In the UK all bikes over 125cc have to have it. Yeah they do come out with some wierd colour schemes sometimes.

Have you tried adjusting the throttle freeplay on your V-Strom - mine when I got it had a ridiculous amount of freeplay and it can make the bike seem less responsive...

Nothing for 2020. I think it was 2018 that they increased the size of the tank.

I've been learning on an sv for 3 years now. I am thinking of trading it in for the vstrom 650, in large part because it would be more comfortable for my fiancee. Going from the sv to the vstrom, do you really think I'd notice a change in power and acceleration? I was hoping I wouldn't. I don't want to sacrifice performance, but the better luggage capabilities, remote adjusting shock, temp, power outlet, are all very appealing to me. Oh yeah, it is my only vehicle, I'd be on it every day.

Paleotango nah in terms of on paper no I don’t think you notice it. In terms of feel yes as you have less windblast due to the screen on the vstrom so it would feel slower. I would advise test riding when you can. Like I said out of the two for me I prefer the vstrom due to the reasons you state. You can still have a lot of fun on a vstrom.

@@AGardenShed Hmm. Good to know. I've been trying to find a place to do a test ride with no luck. Likely some liability issue in California. I have my eyes on a used one, and I think it is easier to arrange a test ride on those bikes. I could probably handle a perceived lack of power so long as there is enough power on reserve to overtake vehicles when needed on the interstate. Thanks!

@@AGardenShed the strom engine is tunned for torq and has a few less hp and is heavier so it is slower on acceleration. My sv650 with raised bars is so confortable...

@@farmoboy83 You are correct. I don't think there's a huge amount in it in terms of real world power though. Both have usable power enough for the roads but yes the sv would start to pull away under hard acceleration.

Hepcat Harley yep. Showroom still shut but their selling from home. For the first 15 mins when I dropped my bike off I was the only none employee there.

At the race or on the Island? On the island I think fine. Upright and comfortable so good for their bumpy lanes. fun to ride at a brisk pace. Naturally not the fastest as it’s a 650 but would certainly make you smile. The sv engine and chassis is used in the 650 twin class at the TT they just add fairings etc.

I swear to God, this is like the SIXTH video I've seen of this bike, and you're the SIXTH person to refer to this bike as the "little SV" or the "tiny little" or the "small" etc etc.. Why does everybody do that ?! Almost like they are trying to minimize or diminish the bike in some way. So weird..

I get your point. To me it does seem a small bike. At 5’6 there are very few bikes I can flat foot. The SV is one of those I can but to me it does feel smaller than a lot of bikes physically. It feels smaller due to being able to reach the ground easily and it being narrower than a lot of naked bikes out there. I don’t mean little as in engine size being small or in a condescending way. It just feels small in its overall size. I’m also used to riding a vstrom which despite having the same engine feels a lot bigger. It’s taller and heavier the tank sits higher up in front of you and with a screen as well it just feels a lot bigger. Like wise I get on an s1000xr and it feels a lot bigger than my vstrom. It’s what your used to.
