2020 Tacoma Rubbing on 265/75/16 General Grabber A/Tx

I've taken the mud flaps off the front because they were rubbing pretty badly! Should I leave it? Try and dremel / cut away the flaps better? Will they affect off-roading performance / capabilities or get in the way and damage/ break?

Damn I’ve been looking for months with someone having -12 offset with 16x8 wheels and running 265/75 on it. So relieved to find your feedback video. I’ll just go ahead and remove my mud flaps haha

Took my mud-flaps off because when going through some trails they would get caught on rocks . Never had any complaints from friends about rocks being thrown by tires 👍

I'm running 265/75R16 BFG's. Factory wheels. The -12 offset is what's killing ya. I sold my 4 wheeler, and I invested in the Icon stage 1 leveling kit, then opted for the Icon control arms. The front is set a 1.75 inches, and it's perfectly level. No rubbing of any kind, and the stance is 👌

When I first started researching the 265/75/16s for wheels with ~-12 offset, the first thing people said was to remove the mud guards and everything should work fine and hopefully thats true when my wheels arrive. I bought a set of RR5-S 16x8 -12 offset wheels (matte bronze) and bfgoodrich 265/75/r16 ko2s. I'm not a huge fan of mudguards anyway so its kinda a win-win for me lol

I also have a set of Toyota running boards that do a pretty good job of protecting the the truck. (I think they are the second gen ones). Interesting, I’m getting my Tacoma in a few weeks. Trd off road. I was gonna run 265 70 17 and a 0 to -6 offset max on my wheel, a 17x9 wheel from pro Comp which has -6 offset and 4.75 backspacing, or a race line wheel 17.9 with 0 offset and 4.5 back spacing. I’ve seen a lot here recently and at Tacoma forum that too much - off set looks nice but causes these issues. Especially with the mud flaps. I believe I saw where you can get after market mud flaps that are thinner and shorter than oem. Might wanna look into that as I might as well when the time comes. I really don’t want to do any sort of mods since my truck will be a 2x4 and I’ll only be doing modest off roading. Try the AM flaps may help here. Good luck 👍

Does it rub when you hit bumps, potholes or pretty much anytime your suspension contracts?
@nastysoda9212
@nastysoda9212 2 года назад
what does a 12 degree offset mean?
@SpencerHogg
@SpencerHogg 2 года назад
Offset means basically, the wheels hub sometimes pushes "outwards" AWAY from the vehicle - sometimes just the wheel design, sometimes it's on purpose to have more clearance of brakes, suspension, etc. - but sometimes it can have negative side affects too - if you have too much offset it might rub and bump into your vehicles bumper, cab, frame, etc. SO Basically - finding perfect size + offset + tires + suspension all together kind of to achieve a perfect fitment, have to consider all of the above! But here's also a good article with some info: trailtacoma.com/2020/02/20/largest-tire-size-guide-3rd-gen-tacoma/

@LousWRX
@LousWRX 4 года назад
I would just run it as it without mud flaps. Because you are only removing the fronts, I see no way you for to kick up rocks or dirt to hit vehicles behind you as there is so much under carrage beyond the front flaps. Now if you had to remove the rears, then I can understand that argument. And who knows maybe later in time an aftermarket thinner profile mud flap can be made in the future to alleviate this issue, and cause no running during those big turns you have to make.

You’ll rub the same amount as I was in this video because the stock trd off road rims are 16x8 same as this, less offset, so you might either rub on the inside of the fender or the outside like me I’m not sure depends on your turning - only will rub when you’re turning slow speed though really. Or you’ll rub on the mud flap but you can take the mud flap off like I did too.
