Never having used a trail cam ru-vid.comUgkx2sTDdZXomuxedMg_HothfjSXjR3rpPkA before, I was very impressed with the quality of the images and videos. The sensitivity of the camera can be adjusted as well as the length of video recordings. Once I found the sweet spot, I was getting great clips of deer and other animals almost every day. I was worried about battery life but have been running off the same 4 aa batteries for over a month. The SD card is easy to remove and connect to a computer. I have a Mac, and the AVI files open natively in QuickTime and are easy to save and share. This is a great, budget-friendly trail cam.

I run 5 (all connected) cameras on an 80 acre piece and pay 1 monthly rate. Gather a lot of Intel without blowing the place and pulling cards! Great cameras and cell plan.

Different cameras different plans. Have been looking at the CreativeXP cameras which is now using the SimHero sim card in place of the AT&T card which can still be used but reportedly is a hassle to set up and significantly more expensive. Also believe the AT&T is a plan per camera system whereas SimHero allows extra cameras at I think $6 each. Browning has a similar plan and seems they charge $8 per additional camera, thinking Spypoint may also have a multi cam option. This very subject is one I wish reviewers would delve in to.

@Trailcampro
@Trailcampro 3 года назад
Thanks for the comment. The only camera on the market with a built-in solar panel is going to be the Spypoint Link S. There is no perfect cellular camera on the market. Much like our smart-phones and computers they are going to need maintenance. I think the Vosker brand is essentially a Spypoint but we have not tested them. I hope this helps.
@peterc504
@peterc504 3 года назад
@@Trailcampro I see when you say maintenance what kind of maintenance would a camera with a solar panel really need? Ive put backup batteries in mine but it seems to be running off the solar panel. The only issue I had so far is that the camera stopped taking pictures. Vosker said its most likely from there only being a 1/5 signal but it was working fine with a signal of 1 for 2 weeks straight transmitting at times up to 40 photos a day. If you have any tips on this let me know. I also believe the vosker is the same brand as the spypoint but not 100% sure. They look to share the same specs etc as well.

I have 3 cameras in the field from Moultrie: (2x) XV-6000 and (1x) XV-7000. "V" is for Verizon. They've been very reliable and easy to use. They're available AT&T or Verizon. The App is very user friendly. Any thoughts on them? I'm happy to try one of those you recommended. Oh - and did I mention the X6000 cost only $125 and the X7000 only $160? Some of those you reviewed are much more expensive (Ridgetec - $400 - that's noticeable).

Tactacam Reveal. Also, don't waste your time with the antennas that come with any of these camera, they are terrible. Get a magnet mount omnidirectional cell phone antenna comes with 12.5ft of coax $20 on amazon and make yourself a ground plane to mount it on so the antenna can radiate signal (round metal lid with L bracket to support). Mount it as high as you can on the tree. Your signal will be 10 times better.

An average 24 hour period here in North Carolina, my cameras take over 500 videos a day so none of these cameras are an option for me ,, because of battery life I have to use black flash cameras that write to a SD card only and a set of eight Duracell usually does make 1000 one minute videos before dying so no cell cams are out of the option.

So what happens if someone steals the camera (out of view)? Can it be tracked, etc? Or are you just out $250-$450 bucks?
@Trailcampro
@Trailcampro 3 года назад
Thanks for the comment. The Spartan Ghost cams which are not in this video have a built-in battery and you can activate GPS on them (there are some different scenarios where this function will not work). However, most cameras do not have this feature. Being they are cellular cameras hopefully you will get a photo of them stealing it and maybe be able to identify them.
@brianowens7986
@brianowens7986 3 года назад
I will say that I have 2 covert code black cameras and they are AMAZING cameras. The code black does have a GPS in it, it also has an option to lock your camera with a pin code. With that being said, IF someone did in fact take your camera, it would be useless without the code to operate it. I would recommend getting a lock box for any camera that you have if you plan on purchasing the camera. If your willing to spend 250-450 dollars on a camera, I would take spend 30-50 extra dollars on a lock box and cable to ensure that you keep it. I personally use mine on public land it has been a fear of mine that it would be stolen. I try to take every precaution to prevent that. Using the 4 digit pin, lock box and cable has worked thus far

The Ridgetec Lookout can be set to disable the camera completely if device is not on the network. This means if you lose it to theft or it goes missing... you can disable it completely by turning-off the cellular-signal remotely, or allowing your plan to run-out. Thant's not the same as tracking...but at least you know it will be useless to the thief.

What is the cost for each camera to send pics?
@bucmeister7713
@bucmeister7713 4 года назад
That is THE question for me that no reviewers I have watched tend to address, the cost of running the plan, oh they talk about batteries, but not the cost of data plans per camera or carrier type stuff. Generally speaking it seems data plans directly from the carriers are more costly, especially AT&T, than the plans through the camera portals. The carrier plans likely provide faster delivery of your photos whereas going through the camera company app it seems likely the multiple stops and camera company server capacity, as was mentioned with spypoint, are likely to slow the time between exposure, notification, and receipt of the thumbnail. I have a Moultrie XA-7000i which runs through their app and is frustratingly slow at loading the photo even after notification whether on my phone or to my computer. Even though the camera was cheap @ $129 after rebate, I will not buy another because performance is why they needed a rebate to start moving them. Trying to decide on a second camera which is why I am here at this time. Not planning to buy any camera that requires direct interaction with AT&T even though there is a tower within a mile, plans are simply to high. I like plans that allow you to buy x number of photos per month and add extra cameras to the same plan for $6-8 each. Some cameras may take 5 pictures a day others may take 50 per day, give me one data number and let the cameras eat from it as needed. Been hoping for some serious cut to the chase reviews of the various plans and what their costs work out to be.

Know a guy that has/had 20 (yes two-zero) of the solar cell cams @ $500 EACH had almost half go out after the internal battery ran down after the AA's drained and was unable to restart, some were replaced under warranty, those not under warranty were replaced by Browning units. I would more likely buy Brownings and go for a separate solar panel with built in Lithium Ion battery pack. I had 2 non-cellular solar units that did okay but the gasket material is to soft and the gaps in the hard plastic are to large thereby allowing ants to chew through the gasket, enter the camera, and destroyed the internals, totally useless now. Were okay while they lasted but to danged expensive to be a throw away within 2 years. You would think some of these companies would offer reasonable refurbishing programs. You buy our camera and if needed we will refurbish as needed for $50 or $75. Might be a good way to build some customer loyalty.
