Back in 98 I was at the Toyota dealership with my parents buying a Tercel. I remember a black MK4 turbo on the showroom floor for about $40k, thought to myself who the hell can afford a car like this? My family was poor. Now I am 40 doing good, blessed 😇 and finally own a MK5 Premium.
True, the 300ZX and the RX-7 were the poster cars (the cars of the Future). The Supra was a big sports car like the Trans AM and Mustang at the time. The tuning aftermarket and "movie" is what resurrected the Supra. 🖖
I definitely remember the 96 Supra, I a buddy with the non-turbo version and kept asking him to sell it. Even with all the hate, I respect the partnership. BMW must be doing something right for Toyota to trust their reliability. The biggest downfall in my area is stealership markups as high as $15k. Then you're in C8 territory
Yeah. You may have to wait for the hype to go down so the prices will level off, Timothy Weatherspoon. We actually see more C8s running around than this Supra and we're hoping we can get our hands on one of those soon, too. You definitely can't disregard the BMW powertrain in the Supra. It's impressive and if Toyota figured out how to make it as reliable as their own, then this Supra should be the best deal going. Imagine BMW performance with Toyota reliability. Crazy! Thanks for sharing and for watching!
On point! The Supra looks and performs like a beast and the 2021 is more beastly. People, don't hate on the partnership; it produced an excellent sportcar despite the name. Thanks for another awesome video and review. 👍
Exactly! That was one of the biggest surprises with this Toyota. Yeah, it drives great, which is very important, but they also made sure the aural details are there which are necessary for the experience. You and I have both seen (heard?) where they've fallen short in that aspect, but this Supra (and the LC 500) make all the right noises. There's now finally a Lexus and a Toyota that I would WANT to own. Thanks for watching!
@@AutoAcademics Absolutely. I feel like Toyota has kind of come alive in some regards. I hope they keep it up because I've been really impressed by a lot of their offerings.
That’s a seriously gorgeous roadster, nice exhaust note and from the look on your face obviously fun to drive. I’ll have to file this one in the _”Me Wantee”_ list of vehicles. Thanks for the review!
while it may not be the phoenix rising from the ashes, its definitely a looker , but toyota should have just called it the Camry trd coupe since it looks like a 2 door version of the Camry trd sedan
Yea man....Supras was the ISH when I was in HS my boy had I believe an 87 or 86 that his dad gave him when he got his license...it had the loovers on it and EVERYTHING....he BABIED that car!! Lol GREAT REVIEW...and that exhaust is SICK!!!!!
We've seen one besides this press vehicle, Tellie Smith. Still kinda rare, which makes it great if you get one. You won't see one next to every Camry. LOL Thanks for watching!
Ok about to express one major disappointment, even if I myself don't drive a manual, THIS car should at least have the option or just be a manual. This is the type of car you NEED to be a manual. This is from a guy that doesn't even know how to drive a manual but knows this car should be one.
LOL We hear ya. And you're not alone with those sentiments, but we can say the powertrain in this car is really good. So good that you don't miss the manual.
@@landocalrisian2014 Ha! We can only share our experience with you. By all means, check it out and if it doesn't hold up to the expectations, you can always check out the new C8. 😉 We're hoping Chevy will send us one soon! Gotta love choices!
Yeah, it looks really good in red, Choo Choo Rabinowitz. And believe it or not, it still looks even better in person. The lines just don't translate as well in pictures or video. Hopefully, Nissan will send us that new Z when it is released. We are very intrigued. Thanks for watching!
Thank you, Kenneth Kaniff. But don't sleep on this car just yet. We agree, a manual could make for a wonderful experience, but the current powertrain setup is very well done and we didn't miss the clutch pedal once while we had it. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
Don't poo poo it so fast though, FrankypankyV8. Yes, it is very much BMW in areas, but it is a fantastic car. As long as Toyota can infuse their reliability into it, it'll be the most reliable BMW you can buy, thus making it one of the best! New BMWs are fantastic experiences so hopefully this Supra will remain fantastic 4 or 5 years later. As always, we appreciate your comments and thanks for watching!
FrankypankyV8 Toyota never would have built this without partnering with another company. They wouldn’t sell enough of them to justify doing all the engineering on their own.
