I have to disagree on the quick shifter and mirrors. Quick shifter works perfectly as long as your using it correctly. You have to be on the throttle and above 4000 rpms up and throttle open and at an appropriate speed for gear down. The bar end mirrors are excellent; as good as I’ve ever had on a bike. Wind, well yeah its a naked. It’s a damn good bike all around.
Spot on review. Going on a year of ownership on my 2020 rs and it's been perfect. just over 6k miles and a good quarter of that is from the track. Stupid easy to control and smooth as a whistle on the track. Though its not so much of a hooligan like you get from a duke variant or mt09. Added a host of upgrades most recently some rearsets because it can get cumbersome when tilted over but honestly a great tool right out the box. Also make sure to let the girl breathe; popped a sc project on her and she's more than happy to sing. This bike loves to be revved out! As for the mirrors. well its mainly a track bike now so did away with those. :)
I brought fastbikes all year to see what you would do with that bike and you only changed the brake pads, was hoping for modification advice/review. Great bike 👌
You're spot on about the need for a flyscreen, especially on motorway journeys. I changed my 2018 RS for the 2020 model and I'm really impressed with the superior mid range the 2020 bike has over the 2017 to 19 model. IMO you've just been unlucky to have recieved a bike with quickshifter/blipper faults as the shifter on mine is the best I've experienced on any bike.
I have you tried turning the mirrors so the thin ends points in rather than out? If you do that you can still see perfectly well behind and you reduce the bike’s width by a couple of inches.
What about removing them, and putting them on opposite bar ends so they are hanging down? I don’t know why they are up in the first place. You get a better rear view looking under your arm instead of at your shoulder.
Why? It's the same motor for 2020, but they limit the top end power with throttle restrictions, and lower spec components. For 2018-19 the R had more torque down low, because it had a different cam, fuel and ignition mappings. For 2020, it's the exact same motor, same fuel and ignition tables... all they did was go into the throttle tables for the rid by wire, and after 7000rpm, no matter how much throttle you give it, the ECU will only deliver 81%. The RS, delivers 100% when you twist the throttle 100%. That is the only difference between the two. The 2020 R no longer has the low end and mid range advantage over the RS. They are both the same down low, the RS just has more up top. The good news is that you can remove that restriction on the 2020 R, with TuneECU. You can go into the ETV tables and change that 81 to 100 and push it to the ECU, and your R will now have the full power of the RS. :-)
4:54 can’t the mirrors be swapped from each side so the hang down instead of up? That’s what I did on my rabbit ear T100 mirror. It is below my right bar. But yeah those don’t look great for filtering.
Mine will be delivered in a month. They’ve given me a week to choose between this black one or the sparkly silver. I just keep going back and forth... which one should I go with?!?
I have the exact same quandary mate. My preference was the silver but with the new decals it looks kinda out of contrast and i dont like red sub frame. So I’m gona go with the matt black which is gona be hard to keep clean ;)
@@wrathofdiablo yeah the black is amazing. I went with the Silver in the end and I agree, not a fan of the new decals. But I am happy, the silver looks great in person.
4:59... as a 2020 STRS owner, I’m struggling to understand how you can flag the mirrors up as an issue (just rotate them inwards, takes 2 seconds and I think they actually look better), yet can say how great the dash is? The dash is by far the worst aspect of the 2020 model. Tachometer is awful in all styles. If you want one item to show up bigger, another is either taken off the screen completely or so small, you have to lean forward and squint to see it. Or you’re stuck cycling through the menu, taking your eyes off the road just for those extra, but all important, few seconds. How it got through testing I’ll never know. The hipster committee obviously took over full control with that one maybe... Awful decision on Triumph’s part, who seem to refuse to see it as an issue by simply ignoring their customers. Apart from that (but it’s a biggie), bloody love the bike.
I stopped at mirrors, I know in the UK you have different standards but my golly gosh the rat nibbling is mega in this video. You are young probably never road 50s/60/70s bikes so I get it you are spoiled however the RS is the most absolutely perfect bike in all my 60+ years of riding. Triumph has not missed one peg on this one it's defo an 11.
Triumph reviews by Englishmen are always skewed garbage. Just tested 2022 Street Triple RS on track. Sucks! Traction control and ABS are museum quality. The only European bike at this price point without an ECU. EFT display and the whole convoluted menu system are pure garbage compared to Ducati, KTM and BMW. Street Triple still handles well in city traffic and 765 triple engine is a gem - the rest not up to snuff anymore. Major upgrade way past due!
