The 2020 #Yamaha #R1 and #R1M international press launch was held at the MotoGP circuit of Jerez in Southern Spain and we were there to test both bikes. Massive engine upgrades have resulted in Euro 5 compliance yet without any power loss. But they're not the only upgrades.

I do like how Michael said it’s splitting hairs comparing the new bikes to each other. My only question would be how much more hp do you get with an exhaust and tune?

Take all the weight off, new gasket, straight through exhaust and power commander then sling it on a dyno should give another 15 bhp at least at the back wheel, so over 210bhp and you got a superstock race bike, well that's what we used to do. Which will pull your arms off it gets there soo fast

@@colin-markhargreaves3784 my 2016 went from 177 stock to 189.8 with full Akra and ecu flash, the fuelling & timing were very bad on the 16's !

@@colin-markhargreaves3784 yep, they always quote 'at the crank' which equates to around 10 to 12% loss at the back wheel - gearbox, chain etc. so most 200HP bikes make around 180 at the wheel. My RSV4 is supposed to be 200 but makes 185 at the wheel with an Akrapovic & race map. But the Yamaha feels way more for some reason ?!

Yamaha has kept the peak horsepower but isn't there now a flat spot mid RPM due to Euro 5?

Some 50 pencing on them corners there son because it wants to turn quicker than you - and you look huge on it - but what a bike - try and enjoy yourself more on it and don't be afraid. Many thanks though.

you got to realise they are trying to do a photo/video shoot so this is not really indicative of how he or any tester might normally ride, I've been at several tracks where the mags / MCN, FB, PB etc. have been doing some testing and its just them trying to get a good angle

@@sk2283 I know, some of the mags have featured some of my old bikes before however I was talking about the on board shots, no worries thanks mate
