Almost $50,000 and VW couldn’t throw in some $40 LED turn signals? Come on VW, it’s 2021! It seriously cheapens the look of an otherwise very nice looking vehicle.
Maybe on the smile meter the blank face should be at the bottom; like Mitsubishi Mirage slow because you can have a little fun with most of the vehicles currently rated "😐" /adequate power but not fast*. New 'smile meter'? -- 😐😏🙃😁😆
The Atlas is an amazing conundrum. It has the room of a near full-size, but the interior environment is pretty austere. The full LED tail lamps wouldn't be out of place on an Audi, but they put halogens on the front(drives my OCD up the wall!. They literally could've put switchbacks on the DRLs like most other manufacturers). The guages and infotainment are tops in the class(for now until the JGC comes out), but let down by a sea of plastics and a sound system that belongs in a base Golf. I'm not bagging on the vehicle because I do believe it is a better by than the Audi Q7, but this class is quickly heated up on the luxury and even the SEL Premium won't fix many of the Atlas' shortcomings.
Plastics are on all cars, everything can’t be leather. Plastics are down low. I have a 19’ Tiguan and the plastics are down low and easy to wipe off or dust. What other material are you expecting. I drove a new Audi E-Tron at the dealer a couple months ago and it had the same hard plastic on the lower portion of center portion also.
@@Fyahking619 Copy confirm that. An 88 Jetta GLI was my first and last VW-worst automotive purchase in my lifetime. However, my son bought a Cupra Ateca to drive in Europe, and that thing just blows me away. He has owned it two years and not even a CEL has appeared. I think VW is making a real effort, and that says something in today’s manufacturing environment.
Other than the strangeness of faux *dual* exhausts, nice looking SUV! Like the interior space as well. Nice to see you doing a review without snowpack & ice underfoot - spring is coming! Great review as always, guys!
We have the 2021.5 VW Atlas SEL. We love the ride, quiet interior, and the space. I will say that fuel economy is better than what is on the sticker. We are averaging 19-20 in the City and 24-25 on the Highway. FWIW.
Same here, I have 2021.5, and on a 500 mile trip, I averaged 26.0 mpg on the first half, and 25.7 on the return trip. 74 mph speed. Absolutely love my Atlas Cross Sport sel premium!
@@jarodely9655 v6. The longer I have this car, the more I love it. I find it does everything my Jeep Wrangler did, except it does it better. Better gas, better ride, better gas mileage, higher towing capacity, and a heck of a lot more practical!
@@yes8032 like honestly we live in a boring time right now. we need more sports cars/sedans and station wagons but people keep buying these lame ass SUV/CUVs that will never ever be used for their purposes either
When I test drove this, the steering wheel felt more like dimpled plastic rather than perforated leather. The top and bottom material felt more like leather than the dimpled sides. Anyone else have the same feeling?
Atlas at best is a BORING SUV. #1 : Power - Definitely needs more power and torque to drive this huge vehicle , #2 : Interior is just PLAIN and boring #3 :Wind noise - passenger side lots of wind noise coming in at highway speeds #4 infotainment - Screen can be bigger? # 5 Opening trunk with foot - its horrible implementation - its more miss than hits. Only area it excels is space and I love the squarish- boxy looks . Hopefully they fix some of these in future models . Great review guys , but you need to be a good crtics and compare vehicles in same class . I feel you are always positive about every vehicle you review and honestly dont understand smile meter :) come-up with some type of relative score may be ?
It’s funny this posted today as I was just at my local VW dealership. One huge miss for me is the steering wheel. While The leather looks good but it feels horrible. It feels more like a vinyl plastic than leather.
Tuareg is gone long time ago so that comment isn’t relevant. To keep wishing for things we don’t have or comparing is a real waste of everyone’s time. This is what we have, and you like it or don’t like it and keep it moving.
@@2004cyrus tell me? How am I wasting people’s time???? these 2 cars are definitely comparable to each other just like Toyota has a land cruiser and highlander infact where I live we still have that car and we don’t have the atlas but I’m just saying so speak for yourself ffs
Travel Assist is NOT hands free driving, it is semi autonomous hands on driving. It will keep you between the lines on the road but if you take your hands off the steering wheel, the system will prompt you to place your hands back on the wheel, if you do not, the car will think something has happened to you, turn on the hazard lights and slowly bring you to a stop in your lane.
Recently drove 17-18 3-row SUVs, and the Atlas was EASILY the worst to drive. Thing floated like hell, felt like I was piloting a boat down the highway. As soon as I returned, I gave the salesman the key, gave him a “not interested,” and was on my way; that was the only cut-and-dry “nope” of my search. It’s too bad, because I like the look and the roominess, but the thing drove bigger than a Tahoe or Expedition.
The atlas is by far one of the worst mid sized three row suvs right now, it’s so cheap and outdated both interior end exterior it’s just not worth it, there’s no point in getting it when suvs like the palisade and telluride exist
@@2004cyrus Actually there are LOTS of people that get this model for the towing capability... Dealership says the same thing. Huge difference in towing ability from 4 to 6. Do your homework or don't comment....... #MicDrop #NoMoreTimeLeftForPeanutGallery
@@christiana8820 you are totally WRONG. Salesman at a dealer will tell you anything Christian. And guess what, my family owns 54 dealer franchises. I drive an Atlas Cross Sport currently, I’m in touch with people and vehicles everyday. I don’t need research. I AM RESEARCH, buddy. I’ve been doing this sh*t since I was 12. I’ve been in the environment and I know exactly what owners do & don’t do with their cars. And guess what, the statistics show that people buy a gazillion more Dodge Durango’s and Chevy Tahoes and Jeep’s to tow. Not freaking Volkswagen Atlas. I haven’t seen 1 Atlas towing anything in my life yet. And I travel from our stores in Oklahoma & Texas all the way to Florida and the Carolinas. You think you are Mr Badass with your lame ass old hashtags. I have more knowledge in my pinkie and I know it like the back of my hand. Get outta here and eat a bag of dicks.
Its just amazes me every time when i see interiors and reliability of a true german vw and this abomination of "design" not even talking about materials.
@@2004cyrus ignoring the fact the Atlas is built in Tennessee, the car itself designed by VW is very Germanic, with many right angles and simple, effective design. Function with minimal form
