that splash cover is there for a reason and that is to protect the belt from splashing water from the tires. Now it's wide open for sand and debris to hit the pulley and belt. It's not that hard to remove the oil filter. It's a little bit of inconvenience versus the lifetime protection of the engine. you can get a flex funnel online for $25.

Those clips suck to remove and nearly break every single timeZ I’ve done this for over a decade and have had zero issues. Edit: I’ve also added a link to the funnel in the description a few months back.

If I run across one I will for sure. I will be doing trans and transfer case videos on my tlx-s soon and have one on the rear diff already in my video library which should be very very similar to the mdx if that helps you in the meantime. Thanks for the suggestion 👍🏻

Nice video! I hope the removed panel doesn’t give you any problems when it rains. In my Accord it caused water to get on the belt and it would make noise.

Do you recommend Special Tech AA or Molygen New Generation oil for the Type S? Both say Honda compatible. I really don't care about the price but more of which is better for the TLX.

You could but usually there is oil on the block which will essentially do the same

Is that oil better than Mobil 1? I work at Valvoline and think our oil is ok but im still trying to figure out whats the best full synthetic oil is out on the market

Yes I think it’s a great balance of better quality oil for a good price. There’s better oil for sure but it’s pricey.

yes, its a horrible spot and can easily make a mess. mdx should be in identical spot.

Thanks so much for this, Goona have to make sure i save some cardboard for my first oil change in the driveway that oil filter placement is not in a friendly spot. Love watching your updates, im eagerly awaiting some after market support for this car after seeing your success with the down pipe but no companies seem interested in taking my money yet. What do you have in mind for your next step? Im swapping on a winter wheel and tire set up tomorrow and cant believe the weight of even the “lightweight” summer set up. Over 60lbs! My winter set is going to be 12-13lbs lighter PER WHEEL then the summer oem set. It will be interesting to see if removing around 50lbs of unsprung weight has a significant performance impact. Would love to see you do a draggy before and after if you live in the North and have to put on a winter set as well.

Thanks for watching, yes the filter placement is ridiculous but they have their reason for placement there. I’m gonna use my oem “lightweight” setup for the winter and just take it easy on colder days and try to avoid driving it in the snow. I am in jersey and eventually the y spokes will be my winter wheels as I already have my summer wheels waiting until spring. Like you said they are lighter then my y spokes and I will do a dragy comparison before and after install.

when do you think I should get my first oil change done on my 2022 tlx type s? got it in april and has just 700 miles on it now.. want to take advantage of the dealership giving free oil changes for the first year

I did my first at 1k but I’m ok with anything up to 3k to 3,500

@@BCautosolutions So was this video your second oil change? Approx. 2K on the oil that you drained in the video? Did you reset your maintenance minder after the 1K oil change? I just got a '23 Apex Blue Type-S a couple weeks ago and am still deciding when I want to do my first oil change. I've read that Acura has some type of special "break-in oil" and that it is best not to change the factory oil too early. On the other hand, I don't see the harm in changing the original oil early at 1K like you did.

@@joebangaaa I can’t remember to be honest but I did my first oil change at 1k then at 3k and every 3k going forward. I’ve seen first hand what happens when you go long intervals in the long run and I’m not willing to risk that.

@@BCautosolutions Just wanted to update. I did my first oil change on my TLX-S a few weeks ago at approx. 1850 miles. I had had the car for a little over 4 months. The maintenance minder said oil life was at 70%. I changed the oil with 5.65 qts. of Acura 0W-20 Synthetic with a genuine Honda filter. I will be sending a sample of the factory fill to Blackstone Labs for analysis. I did NOT reset the maintenance minder because the first two years of maintenance is supposedly free at the dealership. I had heard that dealerships get weird when you bring in the car "too early" for an oil change and I just wanted to change the original oil early w/o fuss. The maintenance minder hit 60% about 100 miles after the oil change (just before 2000 miles on the odometer) and I plan to take it in when the maint. minder is at 10%. I suspect the odometer will be around 5000 miles by then. Thanks for all the helpful videos!

I got a quick question I just got my type s a weak ago .. I noticed when I'm driving it hard there a mild vibration coming from the engine when I have it on sport plus transmission on sport have you experience something familiar?

Congrats first of all, it’s an amazing car and super rare. No there hasn’t been any noticeable vibrations on my end. Is it while idle/cruising/full throttle, etc…

@@jcwatts5000 yeah no vibrations here. Super is a must in these cars especially if your in a warm weather state. I know gas prices are through the roof but gotta take it to the chin unfortunately lol

Don’t those cars have a reminder on the dash for oil change’s based on a Honda algorithm, my reasoning don’t second guess the manufacturer doing more is a waist of money and time !

They do but what the algorithm doesn’t factor is modifications. It costs me $40-80 depending on oil I chose to use, it’s cheap insurance and let’s be honest, honda hasn’t gotten the algorithm right in recent history I rather just change it early and practice what I preach and see in the field

Who really doesn’t care or know anything about what YOU “ feel about a car , I have to agree with the maker as the did build it ( not the way you would of but your modification may not make a spits bit of difference overall in the big picture - I have heard that Honda corporate philosophy is they want to sell you your next 5 cars not like the big three her wanting to sell your next car $$$$$

@@solstar4778 Im saving myself headaches down the road. This is what I’ve always done with all my cars and will continue to do so. I’ve seen what changing oil according to Hondas algorithm and it fails far too many times. Now multiply that with extra horsepower and abuse it’s again it’s a recipe for disaster, i see it over and over again.
