Well done !! I’ve been waiting for an honest review of this version and I’m more pleased that it came from you! I love your honesty👌🏽 You have solidified my decision on which one to get. I have a deposit on a Tarmac Grey Tuono which should arrive sometime in July🥳 I will most likely replace the pillion seat with a cowl or something like that and then replace the windscreen with the Factory version so I can get that “sportier” look back. I figure that the extra $3k would be better spent on exhaust and race map when it becomes available 😉👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Thank you for reviewing this version, keep the videos flowing brother!!🍻
but did he tell you about poor heat management these all have. No, or no more test ride reviews. So, if you bought one, does it overheat at the red light?
Great test as usual, just picked up the new Tuono Factory this is my sixth Tuono in twelve years starting with the a twin and followed with five v4 since 2010 ,never had a problem they just get better in every respect.
Being 52 but not willing to give up a sporty look and ride, this bike seems like the right choice for me over the Factory version. I don't care for the screen shape and would swap it out for a shorter sport screen. The bike looks great otherwise and is sexy in a subtle kind of way, without all of the gimmicky graphics. You can add flash and color as needed with your riding gear.
I check RU-vid every now and then, waiting for the non factory version review ...... Finally, a real world test, in a shiny day!! A bit pity you couldn't hammer the engine ... Thank you for the first impressions.😁🤘💪
Thank you for this video. Been looking for the non factory review of the new tuono. I had the 2012 model for 6 years. The best years of my riding life.
I have this bike on order and up until now there hasn't been any videos reviewing the standard Tuono so hats off to you Mostly Motorbikes for taking the time out to put this review up, very much appreciated.
Mate! Another first I think!!?? And another good review - thanks. Really was waiting for someone to do this bike as everything else was ‘factory’ …. Glad to know the Sachs suspension performs well compared with the semi-active EC2’s… I feel there might be a sweet spot somewhere between the factory and this re: screen and colours/ aesthetic appeal but your video has definitely helped me in managing my expectations on this Aprilia duo… cheers mate!
Great review mate, I'm looking at one of these right now and also a 2019 Tuono RR which this replaces. Only thing I don't like is the screen, but even that might be OK I think!
Awesome video, I'm anxiously waiting for my Tarmac grey that I've pre-ordered to arrive in the US. Every day I check RU-vid and the forums to see if anyone has posted videos of it.
@@hlagunes I don’t have high hopes that I’m going to get a bike in this first shipment unfortunately. Who knows when more bikes will arrive, looking like end of August maybe in which case riding season is almost done. Might have to look at a different bike if that is the case or just wait until next year.
Thank you for this very good review. Exactly what I have been looking for in terms of highlighting the differences (and similarities) compared to the Factory version. Extremely useful.
Best decision made by aprilia. This kills all competitors and evens up to Ducati. This tuono is going to be a hit! The ultimate bike v4 with comfy ergonomics 👍❤️
Just rode mine home from the superb Brighton Moto (Kevin and Vicki are an ace team). The bike is awesome; super fast and smooth, comfortable and agile. It surpasses all your read and seen about it. Panniers on their way from Italy.
Cracking review that mate 👍 A bike I have considered a few times and never took the plunge, maybe next time 🤣 Out of interest, crystal clear video and audio, what are you using?
Thanks a lot for your nice video :-) It would be nice to hear more about the suspension, how many clicks in both directions for sport and comfort is possible and to compare with factory suspension would be great.
Thanks for this. Been waiting for the first ride review of this bike and trust you to get it 👍again. I’ve seen some sketchy pictures of it with optional rear side bags but nothing clear about it. This could be my next 3rd Tuono. Wondering if some of my extra parts would swap over but not sure how the Forged red 16RF wheels would look on the Tarmac grey one though😅. Cheers
Nice review. I’m looking at this or a sports tourer like the Ninja 1000sx. How is the comfort for long distances? I’ve got a RSV4 and love the engine. IL4 feel a bit soulless in comparison
Looked at the non-Factory and Factory side by side in my local dealership. Looked like the bolt on differences (so other than the rear tyre and suspension, and of course colour scheme) was the rear seat/cowl, the riser on the bar and the screen. I thought the silver looked great, but the screen looked a bit daggy and thought perhaps the extra tall bar riser might be easily swapped out for a Factory riser if that slows turn in at all. Both versions are much better looking in the flesh than in photos/videos.
Great review. One thing, I understand the pillion footpegs are close to the rider footpegs. Did you notice your heel catching on the rear footpegs when on the ball of your foot (I have size 10)
Good review mate 👏🏻👏🏻. Horse’s for corse’s i suppose buddy this is just a more comfortable choice of an absolutely no doubt already brilliant bike from Aprilia 💪🏻
Nice review! Really liking this bike. I test rode the 2020 Tuono Factory but ended up with a Ducati Monster 1200s but the desire for that V4 engine hasn't left. Very tempted but don't really want to spend any money on bikes at the moment but ..............................
@@mostlymotorbikes I've just watched the review again. Where are the front indicators? In the headlight or tucked away in the fairing somewhere. Really beginning to like this bike! Oh dear.............
Ive ridden this one 1000 km and its going in for the first service next week. Last year I had the Factory but I wanted the 21 with the uppgraded comfort etc and as you say in the video is the öhlins realy worth the extra cash. But I can notice the difference in the chassi as you feel it moves a little more when pressing on on the sachs. I think you can eliminate a lot off it by adjusting it a little more firmnes to the suspension. The screen is wery god also wit much more protection and practically all clean air with no turbulence. Be aware off that the ecu needs some uppdate becouse many 2021 bikes gets the engine managing light after a while. Missfire front right cylinder says the ecu. Hopefully Aprilia will sort that out with a firmware uppdate.
The Sachs fork is actually okay. I have a 2011 APRC which I have had from new and it has loads of upgrades which take it to the comfort spec of this bike, higher bars, lower but adjustable rearsets, carbon wheels AND Ohlins forks and shock. The shock was the first thing to be changed and made a big difference, when I changed the forks, I was delighted with the bling and the performance, however, the difference between them and the Sachs was far less noticeable than when I changed the shock. So, for an instant improvement..... a nice Ohlins shock from ebay perhaps? Thats where mine came from!
Respect to you Sir ,Fabulous review unbiased honest review, Have owned every bike within last 45yrs riding bikes, since 1975 . Fab honest review, Not took in by all the bling and bullshit, I currently have bmw xr 2020 Lol, Top heavy not balanced at low speed , My lads race gsxr 1000 , have owned zh2, zzr 1400, r1, busa, etc etc. But just purchasing a 1100 v4 tuono non factory, Have all the experience in the word but your review counts along my decision and for that respect to you sir.
Nice review. Lamb chops tested the 2021 factory and found the gearbox a bit lashy as he put it. Have you had the same issue.? Also he said the fueling at low rpm was not great. It sounds like you had no issues with that at all. Strange that he had that. Maybe he just had an iffy model. Would be interested in your thoughts on the matter. Take care and ride safe.
I did the first ever uk test if the factory a while back and found no issue like that. I thought the throttle and fuelling was awesome. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8IKyH0fsS4Y.html
Another great real world review thanks MM. I believe this runs 1 tooth higher on the front. Any idea if their offering tail packs for the Tuonos from Noale too like the 660's?? Cheers from Soggy Perth
Great video, just the detail i was looking for on the Non-Factory. I have a 2017 Tuono Factory which I love except when i'm doing high speed on a motorway but i need to do so for an hour + to get to any twisty roads. I get that it's expected on a super naked but my question to you is a how much better is the wind protection with this larger screen on the non-factory vs the factory? I'm considering trading mine in for this "touring" version but dont want to have same problem getting slammed by the wind. Thanks!
Great video again Please can you help with a choice Looking at the tuono 660 but waiting to see the factory tuono660 wen it comes out soon I want to take wife on runs to coast or moors etc Went to moto viva and looked at there bikes as i live near But i really like the tuono factory v4 So the problem is can you get a aftermarket pillion seat for the tuono v4 I really dont like the look of the v4 tourer type tuono but its got pillon seat and yor video says how good it is and i agree But a no for looks as i like sports bikes So unsure about waiting for the factory 660 tuono to take 2 Or really v4 tuono if i can get sum kind of pillion replacement seat Please can you give me honest opinion Thanks john from barnsley
Hello, thank you for this video as I am shipping for this bike in America. I noticed that the American version has the typical pointy turn signals just behind the headlight. I don’t see them on the euro spec bike. Are the turn signals integrated into the headlight? Thanks again!
Great review, just one question, are the foot pegs lower on this bike and if so do they grind when you lay the bike over? My existing Tuono is fine, just wondering if this would be a snag.
Not ridden that one yet but from what I have seen and compared to the RR which I have ridden I suspect the Aprilia will be a fair bit more fun and exciting.
Thx for review, i live in hot city we have 35/40 degrees in celcius , is this bike cN be ride in city and traffic , or it can be overheated and can make problem?
Thanks for the Review. Can you tell me on the Dash of my 2019 Tuono there is an Amber Light Called Status Downshift in the Manual. What does that mean exactly.
I do a lot of city riding / commuting in a climate where it can get quite hot (desert southwest, usa) and everyone says this bike is a bad choice for that kind of riding. Current bike is a speed triple 1050 rs which is good at everything except long distances. It's really good at city riding. Doesn't get crazy hot and doesn't mind low speed. Was thinking about swapping to a tuono but the stories of its heat problems and low speed manners are putting me off. Shame.
Looking at the Aprilia website, they don't seem to offer the factory version any of the comfort options featured on this bike. Pity they cannot offer the Factory options of handlebars, pillion seat, rider seat, pillion pegs and bigger screen from this model. For manufacturing, I cannot see that there would be too much difference in the two models to prevent the fit out of the options unless Aptilia wanted to go out of their way to make their tooling costs higher to make both models. I am looking for a new bike, I would prefer the hair on fire factory model but with more creature comforts of this model.
I'm between this and the ktm sdr 1290 3.0 . Which one do you prefer? I'm more into the ktm because it seems to be a better bike at lower speeds, heard that the tuono heats up a lot and it's not good a lower speeds compared to the sdr. I'm talking about both bikes last generation versions
That’s nonsense mate. The Tuono is lovely at slow speeds. I even show it in the video. As for heat. Zero. I also reviewed the sdr. Did not like it one bit. Have a look on my channel. Handled like a Tesco shopping trolley compared to this.
I am on my way to buy a 1290gt 3.0, coming in the end of the year. But this tuono caught my attention. I guess the gt is going to have better wind protection. Does this tuono have good panniers options?
Hello. Do you know or anyone here knows if the windscreen can be swapped by the same windscreen as the Factory, lookwise, it would be amazing. And this huge pillion sit ? Is it possible to have a cleaner rear end as the Factory ? If this is the case, then I'm in!!! The tarmac grey standard version would really be enough for me!!! Cheers and thx for this interesting review !
I just started riding a couple years ago. I got a naked bike which I love, but I can’t get used to the wind on the highway. I’m curious how much a windscreen like this makes a difference
Waiting to line this up with my KTM Superduke GT 1290. One thing the Superduke has IS electronic suspension which lets you set it up for load/passenger/luggage-- AND damping choices. Load setting for sure is great as I ride pillion lots. Plus--KTM includes side bags which mount on integrated mounts with no mounting cages hanging off the sides. Then--there is fuel mileage/capacity. SD gets 40+ with pillion on board/bags and has 6.1 gallon fuel tank.
Yea, it’s horses for courses mate. The KTM is more of a dedicated tourer. This is a hyper naked that CAN tour. Big difference. Both good bikes. Depends on what your use case is.
How is the engine heat on this bike? I am on a panigale v4 and Love the v4 motor, but not the heat that comes off of it. Nobody really mentions it, so I suspect its fine.
@@mostlymotorbikes thank you so much for the comparison. That is exactly the info I needed. So you track the v4 mostly? Ducati spacers just came out with a heat shield kit that I'm going to try
You say you don't feel much of a difference between ohlins on the new factory and this new standard v4. It seems weird because I felt a huge difference between Sachs and ohlins when I tested the 2019 models
@@rivie2x I don’t mate not on the roads. I suspect once you start pushing really hard you might do and this have to dial in the Sachs a bit but you’ve got to be doing some pretty stupid speeds on the road to find that out.
@@mostlymotorbikes Thanks. Its been bitter sweet so far. It is the best performing bike I've ever had, when it's working. It's back at the dealer now for the second time. First time it was overheating. Wrong coolant installed at the factory. Now it almost set itself on fire. Something caused the catalytic converter to get red hot. It melted some cables around it. If I have another pointless issue with it after this I'll be considering trading it in. That's a sad thought as it is a great performing bike. Feels like a comfortable glove. I've enjoyed every mile to this point.
@@mostlymotorbikes i Dont see myself going to many track days, just more cruising around and going through some twistys, the bike can handle that right? That’s why I wondered how it was to tuck in.
Im massive dissapointed about the RR that it doesent have electronic suspension as more road touring tuono it would make more sense that the rr has electronic and factory has manual highend suspension. On a track weapon as the factory is its better without electronic suspension and save weight. But on a road bike you want to change modes and maybe ride some sport in the canyons and then comfort home. Look at the competition superduke gt or s1000xr electronic suspension. I hope they will get the tuono rr right 😀.
Bland colors and seemingly no integrated mounts for side bags or suspension setting for pillion/luggage loads? If not--darn. Won't get me off my KTM Superduke GT then.
@Tom Traynor It's got fully adjustable suspension, whats the issue?!......wasn't that long ago that humans could actually use tools and think for themselves lol
@@chr11sf Because I go from riding the wife all day with luggage-then go for a solo rip afterward-at the push of a bottom. Went and saw the Tuono and my wife who’s just 5’ 109 pounds looked at the pin cushion seat and said: “Oh that’s cute.” . It’s just not OUR bike. Superduke GT is a better GT-WITH pillion-the reason we have this GT-type bike. I’ve owned a Tuono before-btw.. And have 3 other bikes. And have owned 17 bikes.from KTM, Aprilia, Triumph and Ducati. Maybe let it be OK this “touring ” Tuono isn’t fitting our desired needs. Sheeesh.
@@chr11sf Because I ride my wife by day on the Superduke GT---then remove bags and push then load/dampening button for solo/sport and rip back roads a few minutes afterwards. No matter--we went to the dealer looked and sat on the the "touring" Tuono and my 5' 109 pound (tiny) wife said: "Ohh-isn't that tiny pin cushion seat....ummm-cute." We sat on it anyways, confirmed her "Hell no!" and nixed it on the spot. Never even had to discuss 120 mile fuel range vs Superduke's 200+miles. Hey--it's OK sport--I have owned a Tuono, and 17 other bikes from KTM, Triumph, Ducati and Aprilia and have a a Ducati, and two more KTM's in the garage, currently. I'll be fine. I "think" I'll ride THE bike that suits US--really wanting the hopefully forthcoming SD GT V.3--though hoping the T COULD be an option. it cannot. Ever. Thanks for caring.
Hi David, Good review of the “GT” version, whilst not looking quite as sexy as the factory I think this is far better value for money, the extra 3 grand only gets you the Ohlins active suspension on the factory, that’s it,..no other difference mechanically. For that 3 grand you could buy an Ohlins/K-tech/Maxton shock and put the rest to either a nice set of lightweight wheels, or a 10 day trip around Europe 🤷🏻♂️ no brainier really! Just one other thing, at 18:06 you refer to the “ bungy strap peg thing” …well I suppose you could use it for that, but it’s main function is to stop your pillion passengers foot marking the exhaust and making a bloody mess of the top of the can,…nice touch Aprilia 👍
I think for me it'd be the RR in tarmac grey....not sold on the screen shape, but I'm sure that manufacturers will be making alternatives soon...great review
Great review. I had the Gen 1 SD1290GT and that was an inspired derivation of a great super naked with a 21litre tank. Love my Tuono 1100 Factory which I do distance on, the main issue is tank size/range. I thought this version has a larger tank...but you didn't mention it so maybe not? Andy #beardedbaldbikers
The maintenance from the dealership is RIDICULOUS! And unfortunately Aprilia's have a very technical valve train; no general mechanics will touch them.
@@mostlymotorbikes did really like the different designs to the 2020s. Hard to describe, the sexapeal has gone now. The 2021 Factory has red all over, eyes are starting to bleed. It is more for kids. The new "standard" Tuono looks boring.
The turn in difference you might be feeling probably due to tires. The base model has the Diablo Rosso three while the factory has the Super Corsa which are a more triangular tire, I think.
