@@AvocadoTalk it’s funny bc I’ve had the same issues with Pinkerton as well as Sharwil. Really the only ones that have been a struggle. I’m going to give up On on Pinkerton and graft it over to something else bc it’s winter flowing habit (which I didn’t know when I planted) is problematic here in Bay Area as it’s just too damn cold for fruit to set from winter flowering. Sharwil seemed to really hate wind so now that it’s fully screened in and heavily mulched seems to be improving. Ellen’s husband Freddy will drive out and do multigrafts using all their rare scions so I’ll probably be paying him to do it. He says he can do like 8-10 different varieties on a tree

Nice multi-grafted avocado potentially, lucky! Not giving up on the Pinkerton and Kona just yet, others down here have had success so it should be OK.

You and me both with our GEM avocado, yours does look bigger then mine so you might get fruit next year. My GEM got fruit this year but the tree was so small that it was not a good idea to hold any fruit. Good Luck to you! Thanks for watching!

hey! try this, if your avocado doesn't seem to grow well like the pinkerton, there's a possiblitliy of fungus or maybe other plant's roots sucking up food from the avocado. to mitigate the latter, try digging a circle around your avocado maybe a 1meter deep and cut off any surroding roots.

Hi supaticky... I've been thinking about this same thing ever since I had to rip out the Pinkerton avocado and noticed a lot of roots, thought it was getting suffocated. I'm probably going to try it out on my Fuerte which has yellow leaves now but first I'm going to test making my soil more acidic. Thanks for watching and valued feedback!

Any updates on your animal problems? I'm curious to know if they came back and if you caught them on camera?

Yeah they come and go, raccoons are sneaky, the camera was not able to get them, if I strap it to the trees then it might get a better shot. I do like how I can get a time lapse of the yard to see where the sun and shadows are. Great for planning the next avocado trees. I'm more annoyed with my gophers right now, saw one just this morning plugging up it's hole, couldn't get the bb gun far enough...arrrrggg...

Beautiful trees, off to 2022. It’ll be nice if you get a couple aguacates(avocados) from each variety. Where do you get all those IPAs? My wife and I have tried the Stone’s, Sierra Nevada’s and other major labels. But you seem to get some exclusive brews.

Great video idea on the avocado awards! Your Bacon, Reed and Hass really grew a lot this year. Your bacon avocados are pretty big and have to try your IPA pick, thanks for sharing!

My bacon is just starting to flower. I would say it's a few weeks behind your Bacon. I do have two Carmen's that are flowering and one of my Carmen's has a single avocado from the last time it flowered. My Zutano is also starting to flower as well. I get so annoyed when trees struggle for no apparent reason. I am thinking if may have something to do with the rootstock. Merry Christmas RE. Enjoy your Bacon avo. Great work

Hi Sam and merry Christmas to you and your family. We can't control our avocados even though we try, they just do what they want. Like our kids, just give them the best start and guide them to do the right things and it will all work out. Everyone's avocados in southern California are flowering this time of year, probably the warm winter, only if we really knew. Thanks for watching and looking forward to 2022!

Creative video very entertaining, I thought the bacon was the best grower, my Jim bacon, wurtz, Mexicola grande, lamb hass, gwen, reed, holiday, all have flowers and flower buds now in mid december.

They're all finishing 2 growing seasons and all are flowering or have buds, all of my avocado trees are from 5 gallon home depot (laverne) or garden club)except the mail order Texas cold hardy poncho, lila, fantastic, joey from 3 gallons none of these have flower buds yet theyve only been in ground 1 growing season, the 2 20 yr olds mexicola Grande and wurtz are heavily flowering and buds, I was surprised the lamb hass has flower buds too maybe fruit this year from the lamb hass, I also have a mystery avocado that I purchased without the tag im surprised that i would buy it not knowing the type i bought it from the home depot in moreno valley, its 2 yrs too and flower buds too I think its a hass or holiday but not sure

The Gwen #1for most precocious was my only avocado tree to flower and fruit after only 1 year in ground from 5 gallon, however the fruit dropped because of this summers brutal heat 100-105 degrees, all the other avocados I have ever planted took 2 yrs some 3 yrs before flowering,

I think its fun to buy an avocado without knowing what it supposed to be maybe pleasantly surprised if its a different variety fruit because I seemed biased in my avocado selection, this mystery avocado put out a branch that's ten feet long while all the others are normal kinda irregular growth do you have an idea of what it would be?

I’m impress with your reed , bacon and hash I didnt know they can grow fast. I have impression avocados are slow grower. I planted my reed this spring and like you hardly notice that it has grown after being on the ground for 8 months. Must because i planted it on pure sand. Like on a little mound. Do you put any special fertilizer on your avocados like fish fertilizer or cow manure ? Just curious what you are doing right that I’m not.

Hi Rick, if you planted in the ground then you are off to a good start. Also sounds like you are doing the right things by mounding and sand. Give it some time, water when it needs it(if the leaves and young branches start to go limp), first year I fertilize almost monthly. Skipped a couple of months in the middle of summer, see my vid ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lWvh_yABCl4.html around the 8 min mark for my chart with the different fertilizers. I'm going to skip the fish going forward because I think it's been attracting raccoons. Mulch is super important, helps keep roots happy. I believe avocado trees have a sixth sense about weather rain Or from magnetic moon, etc and know beforehand of cooler wetter fruiting Type climates I think this year all the avocado pollen will be flying at Their very highest levels than In many previous years lots of pollination and fruiting this coming season in so cal I expect a lots of fruit.

Hi James, does your Kona have the red specs/freckles? I'm thinking my Kona that is in the ground is actually a Jan Boyce. Just got 2 real Kona and wondering if they will have the same issues with being problematic. Thanks for watching!

@@AvocadoTalk Yes on the young shoot, you can see the red freckles. My first kona died (it's a La verne tree) due to bare rooting it following the advice of Gary of Laguna Hills (my suspicion). I have a 2nd kona growing in a pot. I grafted it from a scion of a kona tree. Taste amazing, it's like a Hass on overdrive. But Jan Boyce is good too. My description of a Jan Boyce is if you can take a bacon avocado and make it perfect, it will be a jan boyce. A guy i bought avocados from grows both in his orchard. He has a perfect description: Kona's taste is hyper-masculine whereas JB is hyper-feminine..LOL

Good to know, love the Hass on Overdrive...can't wait for the coming years. My last 2 Kona were from La Verne. I like Bacon better than Zutano so if you said that JB was a little better than Zutano then I might be not bothering with it.
