For me I value flexibility the most, a zoom lens that goes from wide angle to super telephoto. You never know what you are going to come across while traveling and having that range of different focal lengths in one lens is amazing. With that sort of lens you never have to switch lenses also and are ready to film everything. Only downside of this sort of setup is that these lenses often have slower apertures (not a big deal if you are shooting full frame like yourself) so filming nighttime and lowlight can be challenging. I have the Panasonic GH5s which is pretty good at higher isos and the 12-100 Olympus F4 (24-200 full frame equivalent). That lens is amazing and even has very close, semi macro abilities. It has a constant aperture and the built in lens stabilization is clutch, 4.3 stops of stabilization in the lens (the camera has none). Basically the lens does everything and to call it a jack of all trades would be demeaning because it also has very good image quality at all focal lengths and no real optical flaws according to Lenstip. I will probably also take with me a go pro (mostly for some water or action shots) and a second prime lens with a fast aperture.
When the azan ends on a meridian in the world, it starts on the next meridian, so the voice of the call to prayer never stops. When Azan ends in the 360th meridian, it starts again from the 1st meridian
Great video! I travel a lot too so it was good to see how you were ok with saying things that you don't absolute need. Also good to see someone admit when they overpaid for things, because we all have been there. Thanks!
Gear question: Hi, Im doing a thrue hike of the PCT next year walking/hiking from Mexico to Canada. It takes between 5-6 months. Im filming it. Will try to make my own documentary. I will have a friend at home that edites the videos. So, some gear below. I need to go as lightweight as possible, will intervju people on the way. So, this is the list right know (I haven't baught the camera yet, been borrowing friends and trying things out): Camera - Sony a7s M3 Action camera/drone substitut - Insta360 ONE X2 with the invisible stick. Phone - Samsung s20 Lenses - Sony FE 12-24mm F2.8 G Master Ultra Wide ( want to be able to capture the landscape but aslo do some astero filming/photo, all in one lens for nature). And the secund lens - Sony 40mm F2.5 Light - Falcon Eyes F7 Mini Sound - Røde mic for the camera and a small bluetooth one to put on me giving me two mics. Haven't really narrowed it down fully. 4 batteries for the Sony 2 NITECORE 10k power bank (2 10k are lighter then 1 20k, that why. Will go some 8 days without civilisation at some points) Tripod... looking at the minimalist Pedco UlraPod 1 or 2. I can fix that to my trecking pole and put the camera on rocks and stuff. A bit Undecided on that one. But the nr1 are just 51g so extremly lightweight. Thats it, I need to get as mutch out of this as possible with the lowest possible weight... Best regards from Sweden Sorry for any spelling misstakes.
@@SigfridSWE I am doing a couple of hikes around the himalayas. Hiking to the Everest base camp and doing the Annapurna circuit. It would take around 4-5 weeks of hiking. PCT is awesome. I have never done those thru hikes, but PCT, Appalachian etc are great. People doing those inspire me with their endurance.
thanks for great video.. have one question..i mostly shoot portraits and people in nature. what kind of lights/flashes would you recommend to carry when traveling abroad
I just wanted a small full frame camera with a 2.8 zoom lens. I use to travel with an APSC cam with f/1.4 primes and it was amazing, however after 1.5 years I found that I really liked zooms more so I switched to an apsc 2.8 zoom lens. Coming from 1.4 to 2.8 I really missed the low light and bokeh so I switched to a Sony a7C + Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 full frame which i'm in love with, Also it's smaller than my old APSC kit! Thanks for the good content, Mark!
Love the video very simplistic. Plus wondering should i buy canon r6 or buy eos r and spend rest money on lens?? Currently i have canon sl3 but i seriously want a full frame camera.
Hello Mark we just want to take this opportunity to wish you a very Happy New Year. May it be filled with many blessings and very happy memories. Stay safe Love and Light Sarah and Glenn
Thanks for this - I've been going through the same process and come up with similar answers for myself & assistant (husband): A CAM = C70 (he's a 6' 3" gorilla and can carry it all day) with Speedbooster B CAM (& photo) - EOS R with straight and variable ND adaptors Lenses: Canon 17-55 f2.8 IS EF-S, 35mm IS f2, 50mm f1.4, (plus wildcard = 10-18mm f4-5.6) Mics: Rode Wireless Go II & Video Micro Lights: 2 x Aputure AL-F7 Action: GoPro 10 Tripod: BeFree Travel I'm soooooo want to take the 70-200mm f2.8L IS but it's a huge beast and we will mainly be travelling by bicycle up the east coast of Australia and then 3 months around Japan so it's a luxury that probably won't make the cut.
@@MarkHarrison4 Yes it's too dark. Open a shot with you in it and open the waveform monitor. Seriously, the lighting is terrible in this one. Use your color checker where your face will be and set your exposure properly. Your other vids are OK, just this one has the issue.
@@ImaginetMedia My exposure in camera was good. However, it was my first time shooting in LOG and edited it in the dark lol way under exposed ... shame on me lol
@@MarkHarrison4 I am looking forward to your next video. I am sure it will be much better. Shooting LOG is very difficult in poor lighting, which is compounded if the exposure is not spot on. Personally, I do not see any advantage to shoot LOG for this type of video. Your others are excellent as they are. Simplify things and shoot a Natural profile with a few weeks and you will greatly reduce your time in post and end up with a superior product.
Love the thought process around using the Gopro 7 till it breaks. I noticed around the protective lens cover it looks like there is glue? Was it leaking or something?
Hi brother iam from india and iam preparing to travel all around the world. Thiz video gives me more ideas and ur camera back is amazing I love it, thank u for making this video, all the best for your upcoming coming world trips love u brother ( love , peace , mercy. )
@@MarkHarrison4 okay 👌🏾 $1000 dollars for a travel vlogger kit and I have a Sony a6500 already with no lenses. Let’s see what you can do 👊🏾. I love your vids btw
@@MarkHarrison4 Hi, previously I have been using a Sony rx 100 mark 7 to ffilm and shoot everything, currently the lens won’t retract anymore 😭😭😭 and I was using a smaller gorilla pod, with rode mic. Loved this because I am upgrading my kit to the R6 and first lens 15-35mm.
good stuff, just found your channel. I have been using the gh5 for a few years now as well. been eyeballing that new Sony though a7s3. as well as the new R5 but they are both out of my price range for a while, I'd need new glass too for either. I need to find ways to make more money to get this stuff. someday.
Hi Mark, finally a video which addresses traveling needs, great! Maybe you can give me an advice from your experience. As a hobby I make flight videos and shoot them in 4k mainly with GoPros because of the small size, weight and amazing stabilization. However sometimes I also make handheld landscape shots (+ photos) and vlogging at the destinations. So I am looking for a light weight camera which has the best possible stabilization (like with the GoPros) because in the aircraft it can be very shaky but I can’t use a gimbal in the cockpit because of the size and weight. Also a fast autofocus would be good. Up to now I used a Sony AX53 camcorder for filming and the iPhone 11pro for photos. But I am not happy with the quality I am obsessed with quality (I used to make photos with a full frame EOS 5D II but the cockpit is to small for 2 big cameras) so I want to replace the camcorder with a camera which can film and make better photos than the iPhone. What would you use when money is no object and what if the budget is medium? (like in your video the R5/GH5 or other like Sony...?) Sorry for the long explanation 🙈
I shoot 24 for anything in normal speed. 60 when i want something a little slow (or the option of slowing it down) and then 120 when i want really slow
Okokokok. So I’ve had my starter camera for awhile now, the canon rebel t5i, I want to upgrade to something better for film and photo .... any thoughts ? I’d like to be able to continue to use my 18-55mm lens since it’s a fave, which I think I might need to get an adapter now to use on other canons ? No idea. I also have the same rode mic and love it ! But yeah .. what do you think would be a good upgrade ?
I see how the focal distance of 18-55 is handy. However you definitely want to try a lens with a low f stop for more depth of field in your shots. That 18-55 won’t provide any blurry backgrounds. I recommend upgrading entirely, maybe to Sony a6500... great for video as well as photo :)
Hello, I am looking for traveling kits. I have watched the video and I saw that you use R5, I have an old version of Canon( eos 700d) Now I would like to buy a better version. I want to have your opinion about 2 cameras. Which one's stabilizer is better? ( I mean I am looking for low budget cameras since I am a student and I want to shoot short movies with Gimbal.) So I want to know if the 5d's stabilizer is good or not. Thank you in advance. :)
@@MarkHarrison4 oh okay. Thanks. Good to know. But I was referring to what you said on the video. (at 1.30) You said "I went to the Canon is because of the stabilization." What do you mean by that ?
Haha, your lens setup is exactly like mine: RF 15-35, RF 70-200 and the RF 50 1.8. I can cover a lot of focal ranges and those lenses are awesome, BUT I do miss a standard zoom atm.
Stabilization is getting cheaper to come by. It's in the NLE, gimbals, catalyst browse via gyro data, lens IS, electronic IS, IBIS, etc. These days I'm looking for ways to avoid paying for it (Stabilization) again and again.
If you're traveling with all that gear in a bag that just fits your camera gear, where do you put your clothes and toiletries and whatever else you need?
Only vlogging, like no need to change lenses at all? Probably sony zv-1... although I would go with sony a6500 for better all around ability and still affordable. Then you can have great photography/videography too
Honestly I want to do a lot of action stuff and lots of dynamic things, I’m also not a pro by any means and don’t have the need for a giant camera, do you think I could get by with the GoPro hero 10 and a mavic air2s? Stabilization is insane with both, and the combination of the two would allow for some great shots, and 5.4K 30! 360 camera would be a consideration as well.
Hi Mark, I came into your channel for the first time today and it's amazing that the gear I am going to take with me for an adventure documentary is 90% the same you suggested months ago. Anyway you did a really great video! I have a question. Since I am taking with me the R5 for 40 days around the Svalbard islands, I really need a variable ND filter. Which one would you suggest? On the lens ring or the Canon drop in adapter? Thanks for sharing
being a full time content creator, is the F/2.8 over the F/4 for the RF lenses worth the investment? can you get away with F/4 or is the extra stops of light that necessary for full time travel filmmaking and photography?
