Rather than redoing your rear tyre as tubeless, you should get Tannus Armor in it. I run it in both my DH and trail bike. Check it out and do a review! 🤙🏼
@@TheShredShedMTB No sorry for my explanations i was asking your opinion about the fork like i read on their website that the fork has rebound and 3 positions compresion did that bother you?
Using fiber grip for carbon bikes has solved a ton of problems for me. It’ll probably help keep the stem in place when the turning forces get too high for the contact surfaces under the clamp.
It doesn't have dedicated bosses for mounting a water bottle. It is a mini downhill/park bike so no waterbottle mounting options. The rubber patch on the underside of the downtube is shuttle protection, designed to protect the frame when you have it slung over the back of a truck.
Typically, going that route is more expensive, but you get exactly what you want. However, it’s probably impossible right now with everything being sold out 😱
You should definitly check your suspension setup! Its not going to work as it is supposed to do with 15% sag in the rear. I would try to aim for about 25-30% in the rear, and 20-30%(this depends more on what you like and your body position when you ride) in the front. Try to hit the preferred sag with only adjusting air pressure, then add more volume spacers if you bottom out too easy, or remove tokens if you dont use full travel on bigger hits.
Yeah not sure why people run 15% sag in the rear. Its not preference. Preference is where you land between 25-35% sag rear, 15-25% front. I hate to sound condescending but if youre on mtb RU-vid you've probably seen gmbn. Follow the 10 minute setup guide. It just works. The more Bigger features and g outs you hit, keep chucking in spacers. If that doesn't work, maybe its time to splash for a custom tune. Some big dudes struggle for proper ramp and damping on stock tunes and i get that, but you really gotta be pushing 250 before that starts to become very apparent. But never is 15% sag the way to get bottom out you want. When I ride my heavier buddies bikes at 15% sag they ride like absolute garbage. Especially on a long travel bike like this, ill run 35% in the rear just to really hit the sweet spot in the leverage curve where the bike park high speed chatter disappears, but its not ideal for everything. Fix your damping and ramp, not your spring rate/sag.
I was only running 15% because I didn’t have any volume spacers to add. Obviously adding is the way to go but when you don’t have any, lower sag is better than continuous bottom outs (I’m in that weight range)
Why you switch the sag settings my friend there’s a reason it’s 15% front and 30% rear 😂 if you’re bottoming out then put spacers in and speed up your rebound
Do you ever feel that the amount of travel is to much for the everyday trails? Im trying to decide between the meta AM or the trail Meta Tr Love the review! Found your channel well looking at commercial bikes and i have to say your production quality is top notch! And the audio is also crisp!
@@TheShredShedMTB alright thanks for the response, im currently running a hardtail with 150mm of travel so I'm sure the extra bit will be offset with the rear shock as well 👍
What did you take I'm making that decision now and I just live the design of the clash plus I have a local bike park though I ride normal trails just as often so idk
Sick review bud! I have a 2019 Clash size L. Came with 175 mm cranks. Needless to say, I petal strike very often. But keep in mind, the clash wasn’t built really for being a do it all enduro bike. That’s what their Meta is for. This thing is built to demolish the down hills and kinda get you back up them.
Thank you so much for the honest review. that is really hard to find nowadays, most youtubers suck up to brands and only state the pros. You should try Michelin wild enduros.
Fantastic honest review! Thanks... This was a great perspective of someone who like myself, doesn't live near the mountains. I too spend a lot of time peddling and have been wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade to something with more travel than my current bike.
Pretty good! I get a lot of pedal strikes, but I didn’t on my Stumpy that I had before this. The extra travel is noticeable, but not terrible. It’s heavy for a trail bike, but that doesn’t bother me either. I still find it to be a very playful bike for my local trails, which require pedaling 100% of the time
I ride a clash in Florida, and I don’t feel like I’m over Biked, it actually gives me more confidence knowing I have that 180mm travel. and like he said the bike is very playful and can be thrown around easy.
Do i get size large or medium. I am 5’10/5’11 and love to jump and throw my bikes around and im stuck in the middle as the size guide is saying medium is 5’8-5’11 and large is 5’12-6’5???
Cool video man :) How's the clash on the pedalling tho? I'm struggling to choose between meta AM and Clash. I'm interested in bikepark riding mostly - what do you reckon?
Yo, my Ride Alpha stem on my Commencal Absolut was tightened up fine and I was doing a transition in a pumptrack when it just twisted under my weight and caused me to slam into the bowl and get a concussion. I didn't think about replacing the stem, but that makes a lot of sense that was the reason I crashed. I've been pretty stumped on why I crashed that day.
Hey, I ordered my clash mid June when you ordered yours was the tracking information sent a few days after purchase or is it sent later since it was on preorder?
You hit a rock, and ripped the Derailleur off, so you changed the shifter and the derailleur and call it "component issues".. WTaF I deliberately bought the ORIGIN META AM model for its use of Shimano equipment. Heel rub is an Issue I agree, aside from that cool video
It sounds like your having a lot of issues with parts moving that shouldn’t move after being torqued. The one practice I’ve never understood is lubricating a part that’s getting clamped. I’ve seen so many guys lube a part that gets clamped then torqued, it makes no sense. If it has paint and doesn’t move don’t grease it before you torque it. Corrosion isn’t going to damage your aluminum if it’s painted. If it’s a part that sees a lot of dirt and water just clean it every few rides then re torque. If all else fails test your torque wrench and make sure it’s accurate. If it is then the part that’s clamping or the part that getting clamped it’s strong enough for the task or the engineers are calling out for less torque then it needs. Increase your torque 10% till it reaches 150% of the recommended torque. If it still slips then the parts or the design isn’t up to the task. Standard engendering protocol is everything is built to at least 150% of intended use. I’m not a bike tech or an engineer but I am an A&P mechanic (planes, rockets, aerospace) and the same materials and concepts for assembly are the same.
Same height here but how come you went for size large in 2021 model ? The reach on clash 2021 is insanely big at 490mm. Did you ever not find the bike is too big to ride ?
Xl here. Just finished the build 6f2 220 lbs. Run 210 dropper. Shock needs a large spacer and 60 psi less that body weight. Flip chip dictates pedal centric vs bike park. Advise re oiling shock and fork after purchase. Dhf exo front aggressor rear. 29mm to 40 mm id rims. Wt tire rating to match rim id. Ride it.
On my '21 Meta Tr, I have a hard time bottoming out the rear at 30% sag with one spacer. I had to take it out. It felt too harsh. It's a lot better now, but it feels too linear now. I wish they made half thickness spacers for the x2. Maybe I'll sand one down?
Reallllly torn between this bike and the status 160. You may say the price is pretty different, but theirs things on the status you’d want to change out in a timely fashion, making the pricepoint roughly the same. The worst part is than the information on the status 160 is virtually non-existent after the first release of it back in august, but I’ve been eying up the new clash for awhile now. Just sucks that I wouldn’t be able to test ride either bike before buying, since my LBS thinks I’m crazy because I asking them about the status and they didn’t even known it existed, also with there being no commencal dealers available in the US. Hopefully I can find someone with one of them to give it a try, BTW great review!!
You probably have answered this already. But why did you choose the Clash instead of the Meta Am? The Clash is really designed for bike parks or serious enduro. Where you ride I would say the Meta AM would be the best choice for you, has all the benefits of a trail bike but also has all the perks of the enduro side. Be nice to hear your answer and reason behind choosing this rig. Thanks.
The primary reason is that I wasn’t ready to go 29. Going from a medium frame mid travel trail bike to a long travel large frame, I didn’t want to increase the wheel size too. That being said, I knew that an enduro bike would still be able to handle the stuff I ride on a daily basis, but it’s designed for the stuff that I prefer to ride. It might sound a little backwards, but if I could only have one bike, I wanted one that preformed best on what I like to ride, rather than meeting in the middle. Does that make sense? Lol
@@TheShredShedMTB No that makes perfect sense to me, I know exactly what you mean! Im currently undecided on which one to get myself, I’m torn between the Meta TR or the Meta AM. I think it will all come down to cost for me, I’m not worried about the waiting times to get it or anything.
If you check out my recent video of this bike, I cover a few other aspects that this video didn’t cover. But long story short, even though it’s a big bike, it doesn’t feel ridiculous when riding tighter XC trails.
@@TheShredShedMTB All ready seen it, I just sold my Santa Cruz Bronson that had 27.5 on it. I want 29er plus I’m 196cm tall and 210 lbs, so on the large side I am lol.
Nice Bike bro. Mi favorite Part, the Fox 38, awesome. Nice video. I only change my rear road, now I ve got Assegai DH cassing, works very well. Cheers!!
If you are looking for new tires than go with Michelin wild enduros with cushcore. It’s perfection and nothing has happened to them yet with me, it’s been a year and no new rubber. They are my first thought. But get race casing tho
Hi. How did the derailleur break? You caught the switch foot on a rock because of the low BB. Or was it torn off when the suspension was working and the flag on the switch was raised? (I don't understand English very well by ear)
So how do you think the Clash handles riding trails and and pedalling uphill? I don't doubt the downhill or jumping performance, but I am looking for a do it all style of bike - from trails to bike park.
@@TheShredShedMTB Ok. Thanks! The 180 mm fork feels a bit massive for trail riding on paper. I currently ride a 160 mm Lyrik, and have no experience really from anything bigger than that.
Hey im the same height as you inseam of 32" and cant decide between the medium or large, did you get a chance to try a medium ? When riding do you think that a medium might of been better off or are you super happy with the sizing ?
@@TheShredShedMTB Only having one other mtb which is a ghost kato trail bike in a large. it feels quiet big. I've ridden my dads siskiu which is a medium and that feels really fun and am able to throw it around a fair bit. Comming from a bmx background for 10 years i think im leaning towards the medium size.
Surprisingly, for the large amount of travel, it pedals great! Fork can be completely locked out for fire roads or road rides to the trail, and the shock can be stiffened.
Try putting the seat post clamp opening facing the front. So the opening does not line up the same orientation with the seat tube opening. Might help to stop the noise
I have Clash Race 2020 and I switched to 165 cranks due to pedal strikes. I didn't had a chance to run it through the trails, but on pavement it is way better to pedal than stock 170.
@@TheShredShedMTB It was easy pick for me as mine came stock with SRAM drivetrain. So I went for GX Boost DUB crankset which was relatively affordable at 120 euros.
Recently, I checked the Commencal website and found out that they changed the sizing for the 2021 clash, and I bought the frame way before they change the sizing, I am 5'11, I don't know whether I should keep the large or ask them to change to medium. (Which has a very high chance of adding a few more months of wait time)
awesome! im glad this helped! make sure you stick around, because I have another video coming out soon about other aspects of this bike that you might be interested in!
Thank you. It’s one of the bikes I am looking at getting next. I have a Ghost FRAMR 6.7, it is a 170/165mm 27.5 bike. love the big 27.5 bikes despite really only needed 150mm here is SD. I just love to make the suspension as soft as I can with the long travel and I feel like I can just float over everything and just fly down the trail.
Nicely done! Had been on the fence with Santa Cruz (IMPOSSIBLE to find direct from them in small ... LBS said their rep didn't have a date cause Covid plus California wildfires delaying shipments) and Pivot. Both obviously two of the best brands, but dropping $7k for a bike just didn't really sit well with me (or my wife). Had checked out YT and Canyon, but availability is sketchy at best, and when I'd call them direct they've been telling me "next month" since July, but still no bike. Ended up looking at Commencal, and really like how they communicate availability and would actually prefer aluminum to carbon when considering expense. I like how the put most their resources into the more important parts (fork, shock) as parts like derailleurs, saddles and handlebars typically get replaced/upgraded anyway. Started reading reviews online and really starting to feel comfortable with their customer service reputation and just overall kickass looking bikes aesthetically. Your review was excellent and I'm really considering pulling the trigger, especially since they're about $2-3k less than what I thought I'd get originally.
@@TheShredShedMTB yeah I'm in the exact same spot ... Like the Meta too but don't wanna jump up to 29 I'm only 5'7 ... And yeah as much as people peach "function over form" and i agree with that to an extent, BUT at least for me aesthetics plays a big part. I was at Trestle (coming from PA) last month and couldn't help but notice all the Commencal bikes (guessing since they're in Golden, CO) but yeah, amazing looking bike. Great review, earned yourself another sub!
Hey man! I have a video coming out soon that addresses this, so make sure you stick around for that! But short answer, I’m 5’10” and I’m on a size large
