This is part 4 of our 2021 cruise from our home port of Portishead Marina to the south coast of England.
Part 4 sees us leaving Portland Marina on our way east to Portsmouth Harbour. We are crossing through the Solent and encounter lots of traffic. This 57nm journey shows just how busy the Solent can be sometimes.
Our boat is a 2005 Nordhavn 47 which we named 'Wanderlust'.

Hi , crowded , you need to see the Solent when it is crowed for the Fastnet race . Nice boat and video . Have fun and enjoy , In the Solent size takes the lead and it is self preservation society that survive .A yacht thought a large ship should give way , off of Southampton and got hit and taken to court . 25plus years of boating in that area . Happy days .

Always a good idea to give your back up engine a run. Which a lot of people don't until they really need it only to find it won't start 🙄

Yes, and like commercial emergency generators - it should be a meaningful load test - of high power (say 75% Full load) and for a significant time (3hrs +). This will prove that there are no fuel supply issues, and prevent fouling. Even better if load, fuel pressures are recorded.

@MrAbletospeak On single screw Nordhavns - yes, I believe so (if either/both are fitted). Take my comment as being -generally. I suspect that the smaller vessels would require at least 2 consumers to justify hydraulic power pack from the back-up engine?

Very interesting video, but it looked like you were overtaking the Bavaria yacht? And the big ship may well have been restricted by its draft. I will subscribe 👍
