Great video! Quick question. At 5:02 when you turn the tie rod clockwise is it shortening or lengthening the tie rod? Hard to tell from the video.
@Tech_1968
@Tech_1968 8 месяцев назад
If the inner tie rod is turned clockwise it will shorten the total tie rod length. This brings the toe in. Turning counter clockwise lengthens the total tie rod and toes the vehicle out. Hope that helps.

Will doing these adjustments make the wheel it self come in closer to the spindle causing rubbing issues ?
@Tech_1968
@Tech_1968 4 месяца назад
No it shouldn't. Changing the wheels might.

Great video. I just installed the Fox 2.5 Elite on my '19 1500 DT and the Icon upper control arms which correct the caster. After installation knowing that none of the tie rods or eccentrics were messed with, the truck was driving dead straight. Took it in for an alignment check and they messed it up, pulling to the left and the steering wheel pointing 8-2 orientation, rather than 9-3, if you wish. Isn't it mandatory to lock the steering wheel position inside the cabin before you turn the tie rods? Thanks in advance

Hey bro great vid! Hoping you can help me out with something, so I pretty much got the same lift on my truck, went to get an alignment, originally caster was 4.7 left side so in the red, and right side was 4.2 in the green. When they finished the alignment left side caster was 4.4 red and 4.6 red. They said that the red dont matter that it's just a number and that what matters is the distance between the 2 numbers that if I wanted it back in the green I need to go back stock ... is that true ? Or do I need to back and have them try to put the caster back on green ?

@@victorortega2718 Thank you for the compliment. The alignment shop isn't wrong. The color coding on the machine is for quick reference. Aligning the camber and caster with eccentric bolts can be a give and take based on a lot of factors. The primary goal is to get the total caster straight on these trucks. Caster for an individual wheel will not wear the tire out but cross caster, the average of both side, will cause the truck to pull one side or the other. If the lift is newly installed I would drive it for 1000 miles to let everything settle, then get it aligned again. Hopefully then the truck can be adjusted into spec. Hope that helps and good luck.

Can you tell me if the jam nut on the outer tie rod has a factory torque spec? Can't locate that anywhere.
@Tech_1968
@Tech_1968 8 месяцев назад
The torque for the tie rod jam nut that locks the inner and outer tie rod together is 85Nm or 63ftlbs. Hopefully that helps.

Hi, great video! But I have a question for you. I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn with the stock air ride suspension that’s been giving me a whole lot of trouble. Going to delete the air suspension and go with a kit from Strutmasters. I want to do a 2” lift kit and was told that if I buy the kit for the Rebel that I will automatically have a 2” lift because the Rebel has a higher stock height than my Ram. Ok, great! So,…..should I replace the upper control arms and the camber bolts as well? It’s weird because the Kit for my Ram includes camber bolts. But the kit for the Rebel does not. I can add camber bolts but none of the kits include upper control arms. I’m just wondering if I should change the upper control arms as well because I’m going from a stock ride height to a 2” lift? Don’t want to do any damage down the road.

I would change the upper arms to help with dialing in the alignment, good luck

I have a 17 1500 and I can not get the caster and camber set on the driver's side. It seems no matter what I do, I can't get both in the green at the same time.
@Tech_1968
@Tech_1968 2 года назад
It could be a few things. The most common is the bushings getting bound up on the control arm bolts used to adjust caster/camber. I have also had the control arms bent, it doesn't take much to throw things out of wack. Double check the ride height as well, that can cause issues as well. Good luck, hope that helped
@Lunaticinaz28
@Lunaticinaz28 2 года назад
@@Tech_1968 thanks for the tips. I'll check the bushings on Monday, that might very well be the issue. I looked to see if the control arm was bent but there wasn't any noticeable bends. If all else fails I'll get a new one. The ride height is stock(I bought the truck used without any lift) but I'll check it anyway to make sure the PO didn't uninstall a lift before trading it and put something back wonky. I have watched the video about 5 times and I think I can get it figured out.

Do you know if this Lift Kit would fit a 2019 ram 1500 2WD? I am looking to add a bit of clearance to the truck that is not used off road but does go to some job sites where clearance can be an issue. This kit does not say it won't or will fit but in reaching out to parts shop at my local dealership the computer says it wont fit but they can't say why as they looked at the build out for the truck and can see a reason why it won't work. and looking at the instructions and the truck it looks like it would fit.
@Tech_1968
@Tech_1968 3 года назад
I can't say for sure it will or won't work on a 2wd. I haven't lifted a 2wd truck yet. I imagine it would work with out issue. The reason the kit is probably specific to the 4x4 is due to the dampening rate being different from 2wd to 4x4. I hope that helps and good luck.

Could you go with a 2 inch spacer? Would the factory ball joint fail?
@Tech_1968
@Tech_1968 3 года назад
A 2 inch spacer above the strut would be just fine. Adding a 2 inch spacer on top of this lift would probably stress the front axle shafts first. The operating angle would be too great.
@frankf2915
@frankf2915 3 года назад
I have been doing a lot of looking and there are split thoughts of it is ok just to do a spacer and others that say change the uca for better ball joint angle?
@Tech_1968
@Tech_1968 3 года назад
@@frankf2915 The Mopar lift does seem to put less stress on the ball joints because of the angle corrected arms.

How difficult would you say the lift kit install is? i got mine delivered and am about to attempt this in my driveway
@Tech_1968
@Tech_1968 3 года назад
The back half is easy, no real problems to get it installed. The front isn't bad either compared to other lifts. The only steps that could be tough installing it at home are separating the upper ball joints and getting ahold of spring compressors to change out the front struts. Most auto parts store's will rent these tool's out you don't have them. Good luck with the install.

With those numbers I guarantee it pulled slightly to the right the caster was to low on the passenger side
@Tech_1968
@Tech_1968 3 года назад
Went nice and straight, we always drive the truck with the customer before delivery and he had no complaints. The first oil change showed no tire wear issues or alignment complaints. You are right though a little more caster would help but I have found the lower control arm bushings can get too bound up.

Whats the avg cost for 2016 ram 1500 alignment?
@Tech_1968
@Tech_1968 2 года назад
I think we charge $186 for a 2 wheel alignment at my shop. A typical 1500 would take that. These are dealership prices so it is more expensive than an independent shop.
@macben3266
@macben3266 3 года назад
What about the steering wheel? Is it straight and how did you get it straight?
@Tech_1968
@Tech_1968 3 года назад
Yes the steering wheel is straight. After camber/caster was set I set toe for the left and right. The machine showed "steer ahead" at less than 0.03 degrees.
@andrewsherman9413
@andrewsherman9413 3 года назад
how did u achieve the straight wheel i have a 2020 ram 1500 with a 2” level and no one can ever get my wheel straight and the front end feels very sloppy
@Tech_1968
@Tech_1968 3 года назад
@@andrewsherman9413 So I used the alignment racks steer ahead feature. If you don't have access to an alignment rack you can take equal turns out of each tie rod. If for instance the steering wheel has to be held to the right to go straight the left side tie rod needs to be shortened and the right side give equal length to what was removed from the left. I mark each tie rod and count full rotations of the inner tie rod in relation to the outer. I go one turn at a time for each side until it is straight. I then go back and re-measure for toe.
