I have seen some videos out there on how to change the oil on the 2.3L Ford Bronco, but some of them use a lift which most of us do not have, and some of them go at the oil filter from underneath which is a huge and messy PITA.
In this video, I will show you the absolute EASIEST and CLEANEST way to change the 2.3L engine oil step-by-step, including an important step to cycle the engine without firing the spark plugs, which means you do not have to fill the oil filter with oil before you install it.
Using my method, you can save at least $40 per oil change as compared to dealer prices.
Here are Amazon affiliate links for the products used in this video. Thank you for supporting my channel, using these links results in no additional cost to you:

Note on the oil, I bought it at Costco on sale for $30 so shop around and you might find a good deal!

One change to my process: when installing the new oil filter I do NOT recommend you tighten hand tight + 3/4 rotation. That is too tight. Probably strong hand tight or hand tight plus 1/4 is enough. A year later when I went to change the oil again the filter was REALLY hard to get off.

So apparently Ford loved your Budget Bronco design mods, copied it, named it Heritage Edition, but we all know you started it. Bravo! I really hope you get credit or even better yet monetary compensation for them stealing your ideas, or a brand new Heritage Bronco 2023 that you designed! By the way thank you for all the great tips! You’re doing awesome stuff!
@BudgetBronco

HAHA! Well, I guess as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! But for real, you can get the Heritage look for waaaaaay less money if you do some of the modifications yourself, like the white grill, white top, white wheels, script logo, etc and even better you can skip some of the Heritage features that you don't want or don't like. For example, the fake paid seats. I think those are HIDEOUS!! Thanks for the comment I appreciate it!

This was a great resource, you’ve earned a subscription haha. The only change I noticed to a 2024 big bend with stock plastic under engine protection is that there is a bolt in the middle front of the rear plastic panel that needs to be fully removed to slide the rear panel out, unlike the steel ones you showed where you just loosen the two front bolts and slide the panel out.

I really enjoyed your replica budget heritage Bronco build. I kinda wish there was more to it but the reality is, is that there isn’t much more to add I guess. The multi-trunk tree in the beginning of your video is a paper birch, or river birch if you didn’t know.
@BudgetBronco
@BudgetBronco Год назад
Yes I am being careful not to add too much, following the 'less is more' principle. The tree: Yes! I have always called it a river birch. We have two of them on our property. Like all such trees, I have a love/hate relationship with it. It is constantly dropping branches, and seed pods, and leaves, and it requires a lot of maintenance because it is close (too close) to the house, but it is definitely beautiful. Thanks for watching!

My 2.3L is currently at 9% oil life remaining, with 9,370 miles on it, so will be getting it done soon. I'll get the oil change done at the dealership, plus get the tires rotated. Not sure about the 10k mile change interval, and after this first change I may do the usual 5k oil change/tire rotation routine I've followed for years. Now, to find the "first oil change is free" coupon the dealership gave me when I bought the Bronco. 🤔
@BudgetBronco
@BudgetBronco 2 года назад
Oh wow you got waaaay more miles from your oil life calculator than I did. I am sure the reason why mine ticked by so fast is because I take a lot of short trips, and very little highway driving. I would probably not go past 7000 miles even if the indicator said it was OK, but only bc I plan to keep my Bronco forever. This is also the only vehicle where I will do my own oil change, because I want to make sure it is done right.
@retnav92

@@BudgetBronco I bought mine ('21 Big Bend, soft top, AMB) off the showroom floor, at MSRP, and they gave me a decent price (imo) for my trade-in vehicle. Mine is one of two mannequins they had. Had to wait the usual 6mos, and finally took it home on 1 Feb of this yr. It had roughly 1,071 demo miles on it when I got it, which included it being driven 2hrs each way out of state to get the leather upholstery done. I've been with this dealership for years and have had no problems. They've already done an airbag recall on the Bronco, with no glitches.

Perfect straight forward video. I enjoy your content. I regret not ordering a Bronco last year but I really wanted my partner to test drive the 7 speed. She’s short, 5’2. Do you have any input on if there’s enough adjustment for a short person to comfortably get the clutch to the floor?

Thanks for the compliment! It would be really hard for me to say if the layout would work for her. I really suggest you try to find one at a dealer, or maybe even go to some car shows and ask somebody you might meet there, and have her try it herself to be sure. I will say that the seat does move up a good bit, and the steering wheel also has an up/down adjustment, but not in and out.

Any particular reason you don't use a jack and remove the left front tire? It seems like that would make it easier to access the filter without having to go around the tire. Would lifting the left side of the vehicle cause old oil to flow back into the block before getting the filter off?
@BudgetBronco
@BudgetBronco 11 месяцев назад
The reason is: it is completely unnecessary! There is plenty of room to access without removing the tire. Just turn the wheel all the way to passenger side.
@RedDragonProtection

AWESOME. That oil shoot is what I was looking for, before I found it after the oil started. I talked my dealer into the first 2 oil changes, but now it's time for me to do the 3rd... Edit... So, the break and gas, pushes the oil to the filter? I've never heard that... Also, my manual on the 2022 states 6 qts, includes oil filter, is the 6.2 correct on all models?
@BudgetBronco
@BudgetBronco Год назад
Yes, following that procedure cranks the engine and therefore moves oil without actually firing the engine, so it will distribute fresh oil from the pan to other parts of the engine. I have not seen ANY documentation other than 6.2 quarts for the 2.3L engine. I know there has been some debate as to the correct about for the 2.7L.
@RedDragonProtection
@RedDragonProtection Год назад
@Budget Bronco yes. 6.2 was correct. (I wonder why the onboard service manual started 6 qt including the filter). Changing the filter first was great. It was an easy oil change, not a drop on the pavement. And the gas/break/start was great. I appreciate your video.
