I think 35 is a bit high of an age 😂 I’m 19 and I remember the original puma well because it was one of my favourite cars on Colin McRae rally on the PS2
@Cygator_

I like the new Puma, especially the ST. However every time I see one I think to myself "Why didn't they call it the Ka Cross"
@shroomyesc
@shroomyesc 2 года назад
They kind of destroyed the Ka name by giving it to that developing market bargain bin Fiesta (Ka+), which also had an Active model so it would have been somewhat confusing.
@Cygator_
@Cygator_ 2 года назад
@@shroomyesc Good point yes! However I think a car like this would've given new life to the Ka name. Besides not a lot of people bought the Ka+ (from what I seen at least) so I don't think people would've noticed if Ford pulled the plug a bit sooner before they revealed the Puma.
@aaroncable340
@aaroncable340 2 года назад
@@Cygator_ tho the ka was meant to be a smaller car then the fiesta this is bigger then the fiesta so might work but kind of wouldn't fit in a way in the line up tho apparently there not making the focus alltho it looks like they are but if not then I guess it doesn't matter if its bigger if there not being made anymore I mean the focus

Always good to see you go out of your comfort zone so to speak and drive something you wouldn't normally like. It's one of the best things about your channel. As a 2020 Renault Captur owner its good to see! I like this Puma. A great looking car. Must admit I'm fond of the original too though...kind of wish they had used another name but hey!

Watching from the USA… I bought my Fiesta ST in 2015 before Ford USA decided to sell only trucks, SUVs, and Mustangs. They still do STs, but only in (larger than the Puma) SUVs. :-( So this Puma ticks a lot of boxes for me. I love hot hatches, and I envy your much wider model range. Thanks, good episode!

The Puma is a great car, but I would go for the bog standard Titanium model.

Lovely Jubbly video Mat. I guess the motor industry is running out of sensible names by now, so Ford reused a classic name hoping sales would take off but the competition is crowded for these type of cars now and they were late to the game, the Ford Ecosport wasn't really in the same league.

Great review, it's a pity we don't get the full fat ST here in NZ like you do. I slammed Ford on social media when they announced this car, saying they had ruined another cult car name with a hideous SUV. Yet, after seeing an ST-Line in the flesh a year ago, ordered one as the daily. Never thought I'd own an automatic or an SUV, but I can't deny just how good the car is for daily use.

Again a car without a spare wheel, what is it with manufacturers these days, those inflaty repair thingys don't always work, as I recently discovered and had a mile and a half walk in the rain to get a phone signal, actually it was a phone box on a crossroads, surprised, yes. Maybe the 150 yd slow drive to a safe spot to get off the very narrow country road, road a bit of a misnomer, more a dirt track with grass growing down the middle, it had a road number on the OS map! That might have caused it to not inflate, luckily the farmer did not require access to his field whilst I was away from the car.

Ive never had a flat that could be fixed with a can of goo so a spare is always something I add

I like it. Shame we don’t get it in the USA. From the looks of the trunk layout, your active lifestyle needs to revolve around never having a flat tire as it looks as if a spare is not provided....Something I’m seeing more and more on newer cars.

Ford and GM are absolutely stupid for ending production of small cars. Fuel is expensive all over the world, we don't need more trucks.

Only thing I liked about this car is the design on the door sill/rocker panels, is brilliant and more should be like that. Both my w123 and camry wagon have this feature and you don't have to worry about getting your pants/trouser legs stained by the mud splashes down the sides of the car.

Despite being well over 35, I don't have a huge problem with the name. Had Ford really screwed up with the Fiesta based SUV-lite-thing, and had it been an ugly heffer of a machine, then I would have been utterly hacked off. But it isn't. I like the smiling "face", it clearly handles and drives like all small Fords should, and a lot of thought has been put into it. The market likes it too, and I wouldn't be totally surprised if it eventually totally replaced the Fiesta when full electrification appears. Oh yes, and it makes a far better noise than 99% of modern 4-cylinder engines!

I couldn't bring myself to go for the Puma ST over the Fiesta ST, but I have to admit it's a good looking car and a nice package! It's certainly one of the least bland compact SUVs out there! :)

A dozen years under 35 and hate that Ford destroyed the Puma name. A friend's parents had one in primary school and a personal favorite video on RU-vid is Tiff Needell performing 'FWD tricks' in one, identical to their parents' actually, although my Ford Focus would probably have preferred I didn't find that video, even if our farm's yard was only big enough for a basic handbrake turn. :)

I'm under 35 but a big fast ford fan so know the Puma. I didn't like that they called it Puma to begin with, but I suppose it's just instead of picking a new name from nowhere. At least the WRC Puma suits the name slightly, I'd still prefer it was a Fiesta though. Thought that startup screen was Peugeot for a second.

Hmm, I think I prefer the original Puma. I might also buck the trend being 24. ;) Don't get me started on Mustang. As another comment mentions, I think the name KA Cross would've been more suitable but then didn't one of those exist? Can't really say that I like it that much, but then these cars don't appeal to me and this isn't a bad effort at all. I don't like on Fords the tablet screen in the middle of the dash always look like an afterthought. Good under-boot storage but I assume no spare tyre?

Well over 35 Matt, blood warmer but not boiling, the Mustang does similar, if Honda did same with Prelude that just might be a different story. Wonder if Capri, Probe or Cougar will be resurfacing at some time ☺. What does annoy me though is exhausts that, to put it bluntly, sound farty and pop especially when that 3 cyl has a sporty growl. We have proper heating controls for once in a newish car, whoohoo.

certainly a good car that drives well. it's unfortunate that the original Puma name was used but that car will remain a classic and lend its kudos to this small SUV. I did think that 125 bhp was a lot from 1 litre but apparently 1 litre can produce 150 bhp, who knew. That 1.5 seems amazing. That Green shade puts the top hat on it. It is becoming more and more like picking up a tidy example of a 2015 Ford Mondeo will be a shrewd move for the future as everything goes SUV.
@alexmcwhirter6611

"Everything goes SUV" I wonder who knows for sure given rising prices of energy (of all types). Think back to the 1970s when autos were frugal (by comparison to today's bloated models).
@Teribus13
@Teribus13 2 года назад
I think the 150bhp is achieved with the help of the mild hybrid system which uses an "integrated starter generator" to give a power boost. The ISG is powered by a separate battery which charges most when you're off the accelerator in gear (such as going downhill), it uses the Front End Auxiliary Drive (FEAD) belt to help turn the engine when it's producing power, giving a slight performance boost. Mind you, there are single seat racers out there which use the 1.0 EcoBOOM engine and are tuned to 180bhp 🤯

Fair disclaimer - I HATE these Puma crossovers. But here's what I take from your video: Pros: Manual gearbox. Proper handbrake. Tea shelf (though it looks quite slippy and slightly sloped, points off for that). Cons: gopping ugly face at the front, it even out-uglies the Juke. Really high boot lip. No spare wheel. Tacky stuck-on screen on top of the dash where air vents should be. Air vents low down on the dash where the stereo should be. EcoBOOM engines. Diesel option was dropped. Lane keep nonsense. High waistline makes the interior gloomy (not helped by black on black I guess, but even with light colours I suspect the back would still be claustrophobic). Chavvy pop and bang exhaust on this ST. I bet those rubber seals on the sills will trap dirt & moisture leading to rust. Probably more, but I'll leave it there 🤣 Polite correction - you mention £10 a year tax. All cars registered 1st April 2017 onwards are a fixed rate from year 2 onwards, currently £165 a year for a standard petrol car such as this Puma. However, even that is still much less than the £290 VED you'd pay for a Puma 1.7! 😳

Definitely an age thing, like pop music, you reach a certain age and the contemporary stuff seems crappy compared to what you grew up with. So I hate the styling, looks like something the producers of Lazy Town came up with: soft squashy curves in abundance, don't you dare put in a nasty hard line....if you did it might look...well different from every other cross over out there...you madman! Then there is the "image". Back in the day the sporty models were driven by bad boys, your gran would be happy driving that thing. A shopping trolley on steroids. Old man rant over. If I owned one I know I would soon grow to love the practicality and the easy drive, coupled with performance and reliability. Face facts old boys, thirty years from now there may be Ford Classic meets with people gathering around a Puma...2022 model.😯
