I have to agree with MM here. I also hate the steering wheel in these new Genesis vehicles. You nailed it with the Crown Vic comparison. I still think I would want this in a six cylinder with a sunroof, but not at a 20K premium to this vehicle.
I’ve known about turbo 4’s being viable, if unexciting, but my dad just doesn’t think they work. I need to show him this video and get him to drive one, especially since he wants a G80
Weird that the sunroof isn't standard, but it still looks really good! Inside and out. Though, I can wait for the top trim to come down in resale value
I decided for the 2.5T Advance which is the middle trim. In my opinion the best value and yes the 2.5T have definitely enough power to move really well the car.
Not bad. As a man in his early 40s, this slightly interests me. But at that price point, I’d rather have a Lariat F150 or used Tahoe or a Tesla. On a side note, he sits like Margaret Thatcher in the Crown. 🤔. Anyway another entertaining video. Happy Thanksgiving!
I just traded my Tesla for this car. My must have was a sunroof and premium audio :-/. I was super excited by the ride and they gave me a good deal for the one on the lot. It's giving me anxiety because I miss having a sunroof. I should've made them trade the other dealership.. the audio is fine to me though.
Yeah, the steering wheel's not great. Also, to your sentiments on the wheel options, I'd love to see some more design choices for the 19"s. The 20"s are cool, but in my *personal* experience, I find the 19"s as a wonderful balance between being aesthetically pleasing and better ride quality. I'd take 20"s on a full-size luxury sedan, though. Mainly on the grounds that those have such supple rides to begin with, it'd be harder to notice.
As much as I like the G80, that's a no from me on the 18"s. IMHO it sufferers from the Velar dilemma, big wheels are a must. I think it'll look good with a set of 21"s and quad pipes. You got my vote on the steering wheel, gauges & sunroof. And I have to say, the gauges are much much much better looking than the base gauges you get in a standard Mercedes. As always, excellent work, M.
Funny story: I didn't even know the base gauges in an E Class exist until I helped a neighbor find a car recently. I even went to the pre-reveal debrief where they showed us all the interiors but it took seeing a car on a used lot 4 years later for me to see it - and I see why - it was not good.
I like the wheels, colour combo and don’t mind the trim even. Only thing that deters me is that grill but to each their own. Although jokes on me I just laid off because of Corona virus so I won’t be buying any new vehicles any time soon hahahah.
Yuck. I like the video, but the 4 cyl "buzz" kills it. Put a 300 bhp 4 cyl in some cars, but this is not it. I don't think they will sell many in the NA.
The 2021 G80 is indeed available with the V6 and RWD. The "standard" trim of that car is a reasonable (considering the below list) $10K more than your tester, and includes the following per Genesis configurator: 3.5L Twin-Turbo V6 19-inch Alloy Wheels (yes they are kind of ugly) Electronically Controlled Suspension w/ Road Preview Monobloc Front Brakes Panoramic Sunroof Matte Finish Wood Trim Leather Seating Surfaces Ventilated Front Seats Power Trunk Power Door Closure Wireless Device Charging Digital Key (NFC) Rear Occupant Alert Lexicon® Premium Audio with 21 Speakers Power Rear & Manual Rear Side Window Shades 3-Zone Climate
I associate anything coming from Hyundai/Kia as a value proposition. This car is not a value proposition as equipped. It's competitive with other brands, but not a value. Hence, why buy this Genesis and not a Lexus, Cadillac or Mercedes.
Lexus doesn’t offer anything of this nature anymore, the equivalent Cadillac is a GM product which will be in the shop for faults, and Mercedes has no reliability.....
I drive a G80 sport and after your detailed review I would not consider this version of the new G80.Just too much of a difference between the two cars.Either the top of the line 6 cylinder or I'll go back to a German car
In 3-5 years that argument will change. A 4 Cylinder turbo engine in a vehicle of that size or larger is simply going to have to work too hard to move that weight and will wear out quickly. I will keep my 3.6L Naturally Aspirated V6 in my Chrysler 200C with AWD with 295 HP. 70 MPH at about 1250 RPM vs. a much higher RPM in this 4 Cyl Turbo.
Unless it’s a Porsche 911, I won’t look at a car review with a sales price of $100k plus. Anything from an Asian brand I’ll look at because they’re attainable for me. As for this Genesis, I don’t know about that jeweled big chrome grill? Makes me think about a hip hop rapper with all the front teeth crowned in gold. Just not for me.
@@JamesCovalentBond Even so, its pretty loud for the interior of a luxury car. Especially since the engine is so buzzy. It doesn't make sense that they would want that to be heard inside the cabin.
What I would like to know is for the $49k what would you get in a MB or BMW that would be nearly as good. have you seen a lot of the MB wheels? Most are much, much worse than the G80 base wheels. Also think the steering wheel looks fine. I hate sunroofs. Nobody ever opens them and if it is sunny you need to close the shade so seems like something most people would never miss.
I love your no bull reviews. If you don't mind I will "steal" this video and publish it on Genesis blog on facebook - search #GMIB on facebook for everything Genesis :)
Appreciate the kind words and would love you to *share* the video rather than downloading it and re-uploading it. It takes away the revenue stream from independent creators like myself and keeps us from growing subscribers. Facebook’s algorithm is particularly punishing. So if you wouldn’t mind, please share the link on your group’s Facebook page rather than re-upload.
@@MotoManTV Oh sorry for the misunderstanding - I didn't plan to download it - I just shared the link to your video here - you can check it out yourself on the Facebook page. I respect copyright and appreciate the effort you put in. I also watch every episode here because you are a real car guy and have great points rather than just reading PR from manufacturers.
I actually like the steering wheel, and I think the wheels are beautiful. Just because you have an opinion doesn’t mean your opinion is correct according to the masses I’m sure Honda does studies on what they feel is best. maybe next time they will consult you. 😂
Genesis ( Hyundai ) blew it on this 3rd generation G80 . First of all no V8 option . And your right that steering wheel is the ugliest of any I have seen to date on any car . This will probably be the first Genesis that won’t make its sales goals . Shame though , my ‘18’ G80 5.0 Htrac is spectacular . I would not trade it for this ugly as hell 3rd Generation model 👎🏾
You are right to a degree, or maybe not. This is my 3d G80. Up till now the G80 has been a reasonable substitute for a Jaguar XJ at a lower price. I say up till now because my prior two G80s had a much better build quality then my new 2021 G80 prestige does. It's interior beauty is only skin deep. It's cheaply made with recycled plastic parts that go snap, crackle and pop like a bowl of rice crispiest on steroids. The drivetrain although powerful is far inferior to the prior car and the car shakes and shudders like a tractor when the engine starts and shuts down. The car hit's the brakes on it's own when uncalled for and the car gets unstable because of it. It can be scary at times. I have a coupe of female friends who wont ride in the car after it did some wacky things, which is a shame because it should be a babe magnet. The worst part is that the dealership is clueless on how to fix it, and Genesis corporate is not providing any assistance. In fact I have been trying for 5 weeks now to get a meeting with a factory Engineer with the car at the same time. Customer support is unable to make that happen, in fact their policies seem to be oriented towards delaying customer satisfaction over facilitation. It's sad because I adored my 2 prior G80s and was a huge advocate for the brand. Now I'm just bitter at how badly they treat a high end customer when their overall frame of reference is a $21K Tuscon.
@@rafciu123 that is a real shame. SUVs that don't pull trailers or crawl over logs in the woods or rocks in the desert are irrelevant...only to me. The buying public seems addicted.
Bruh... G70 is very compact. I own one. The backseats are almost unusable for adults already. I don't see a reason Genesis would invest money in anything smaller.
