This new feature is called the Acoustic Vehicle Alert System, or AVAS, which is sound the car will emit while driving under purely electric power. This is for the Hybrids 2021+
I know what you mean!! My fiancé heard it in our apartment complex and told me about it, saying it sounded like angles. I had no idea what he was talking about it until I was sitting outside and heard it myself and also thought I died 🤣 thought it was Tesla at first too
Hahahaha ...your comment is really make my day !..that is what my neighbor said to me when she listened to that tone of my car while I was driving close to home!!!! 😂😂😂 "JESUS IS COMING " that what she said!!!
I work as a Honda technician at a dealership and for the first week that thing freaked me out because guys would pull cars in and I never knew where music was coming from😂😂😂
The reason why you can’t figure out how to turn it up or down is because it’s a government requirement. Several years ago the DOT required all hybrids to make some sort of additional noise when at low speeds because the engines are so quiet pedestrians were getting hit or walking out into the street in front of a hybrid.
Thanks I thought something was wrong because mine was doing it in drive and not only reverse, but now that you say low speeds that's true it wasn't doing it on the highway.
Omg, I finally know what the sound is! One of my clients parents just bought one of these. He backs up out of the parking lot and I always thought he was blasting some relaxing sound scapes. I’m like wow, he really must have stressful days to play this music so loud daily! 🤣🤣. Then I just heard one in the target parking lot and went on a Google frenzy.
My favorite part is how the tone changes pitch with the speed of the car. We have a ‘20 CR-V Hybrid and honestly wish we could increase the volume or have it somehow play into the inside of the car too if no music is on because the dynamic of the tones that play together is so heavenly and neat. Also, yes it plays louder in reverse because that’s typically when you want pedestrians to be more aware of you backing up, because your vision is more limited.
You can adjust the tone for the outside speaker under the setting screen in your car! I have it set to max volume and it definitely turns heads when my car turns into EV mode and when I accelerate since it has no transmission you can hear the pitch and the dynamic of the tones is beautiful, just like you said! I agree.
@@rickythlang Adjusting the volume only adjust the volume inside of the vehicle as you accelerate you cannot adjust the outside acoustics sadly. I will try to guide you on how to adjust that volume in the settings of your car! And all it does is increase the volume of your radio as you accelerate so It can compensate for the outside noise!
In early 2020 I saw a brand new Honda Accord Hybrid and I had heard the same sound. It was not loud at all though outside. It was most noticeable when I was really close to the car. Maybe the volume was low, but it sounded like a really nice and blissful synth.
I literally looked this video up as soon as I heard it at a Belair grocery parking lot just now. I heard it right next to me and I was waiting for a beat to drop and shatter my windows
Hybrid salespeople: "There's so much less road noise with a hybrid". No comment on the constant noise we make come out of all the speakers to compensate.
You are not able to adjust the volume of the Acoustic system because it is meant to alert pedestrians that the car is running and moving. It is louder in reverse because reverse is not the normal direction a car moves, so it draws more attention to the car to better alert people.
You are right! Also I believe the reverse is louder because the speaker is in the front grill and none behind the car so it has to be louder for the pedestrians to hear it from a whole car length!
This sounds is very annoying....Thanks for posting this video....it's very helpful....I've been calling the dealer to figure out if it's malfunction. I feel after six month driving the sound gets louder. I used to drive Mercedes plugin hybrid and no sound. It was beautiful. Why the regulation is for Honda and not Mercedes
The regulation is for all cars that go full electric. Once the vehicle has gona full electric they emit no sound, witch can be a hazard to people around your car when you are backing up. So car manufacturers had to add a surround warning to let people know your car is on and is backing up! It’s a safety feature is all.
I'm hating the sound too! Bought a new hybrid and I didn't know it made this sound. Didn't hear it in the test drive or no mention of it by the salesperson. Wish I bought the all gas version instead. I understand it's for safety, but damn I just do not like it.
I have a '21 Accord Hybrid, and every time I pull into my parents' driveway, my mom thinks that there are carolers at the front door. Same with my wife's '21 CR-V Hybrid lol.
I'm a new subscriber. Interesting video. You should make more videos regarding Hybrid o electric cars. Millions of people are not familiar with this new technology including myself. Take it easy Jordan !
Thank you so much! You’re so right about the technology! Anytime you have an idea about what you want for the next video make sure to comment!! Thank you brother.
@@jordanaleman828 You're welcome, I would love to see a video comparing your Honda Accord Hybrid vs Toyota Camry Hybrid, but any video about hybrid cars are very interesting at this time (gas mileage, performance, reliability, etc). and thank you for reading my comments.
@@exagente.0073 I would love to put the Accord against the new Camry’s! But I’ve yet to come across one here in Oklahoma! I might post something on Facebook seeing if anyone can meet up to make a video for you guys!! And of course, I have my notifications on so I can reply to everyone! Thank you for the comments as well! It helps me think of ideas.
@@jordanaleman828 In the meantime, is there any way that you can make a video about your Honda Accord Hybrid, I'm sure there are many people that want to know if are you satisfied so far with your car or you don't like it. Perhaps 5 things that you like or 5 things you don't like. Thanks Jordan
@@exagente.0073 now that’s an amazing idea. Next weekend when my wife comes into town I’ll make a video! I absolutely love the car and it’s my very first vehicle that I know will last me many many many years and mile. I’ll make a list to talk about the things I do and don’t like! I definitely don’t like the top speed of the car but I love how quickly it gets up to 100. Also love the 0-60 in 6.7 seconds witch beats the 2021 Toyota Camry hybrid at 7.4 seconds to 60. That’s why I would love to meet a Toyota to compare too!
I don't get why you can't turn it off or lower the volume. Unlike most of the other comments, I own a 2020 Honda CRV Hybrid and have gotten somewhat annoyed at the sound over time. I think it may be in there for safety but I swear there are other EVs with quieter or no sound...
Make a video on the acceleration noise on the HW. From the research i've done. I can conclude that it sounds like the rev limiter gets stuck between 3.5K-6K rpm
@@jordanaleman828 I was about to pull the trigger on a 2018 EXL hybrid but with the chip shortage I'm going to wait until end of this year. What should have been a 21K purchase (2018 EXL 50K) is now a 24K-26K purchase 😬
I really love the confused look on peoples faces as you drive by them. They looks up toward the sky kill me :P So desperately want to customize the sound, I feel like a Tie fighter would be far more effective :P
I do have another video of me accelerating. Give that video a listen. My car has a CVT transmission meaning it doesn’t have to ever shift any gears, it’s one continuous power band the whole acceleration.
Bro this sound is for people around your car because it's hybird and it's quite so sound is there to let them know car is coming. Mine does too it's normal
Ahhahahahahhaha!!!!! I’ve never thought of a synthesizer while listening to my car😂😂😂 hey, who wouldn’t prefer to hear that 70’s big block😍😍 performance wise my synthesizer absolutely crushes every accord that has been released so far!! And with the continuously variable transmission the car never has to shift. One continues rev and power. Technology has come a very very far ways! 0 to 60 in 6 seconds, isn’t that insane for a little family car? Couldn’t do that in the big block stock!😁 Yet the feel, smell and vibration from big block motors will never be comparable!
As of right now you can’t, because the sound is to let other people know your car is on. That’s how quite my wife’s hybrid is. Without the sound you won’t be able to tell the vehicle is moving!
I would rather have this than a garbage truck beeping sound from a Hyundai Tucson. Either way it’s now required by DOT for hybrid vehicles to make noise.
hey could you get a recording of that sound in the garage without talking or a dryer going? Its a really beautiful sound and I want to make music with it, I just can't find a clean audio sample anywhere. the acoustics of your garage are perfect!
I sure can! If I had a handheld microphone that would be best but I’ll make sure to put my car into my warehouse and make the noise with no background music for you.
@@baconfromheck27 hey man! Just wanted to let you know, I just uploaded a new video with the acoustics. Let me know on the video if I need to improve on anything for next week. Thanx, baconfromheck27
Since the car is a Hybrid and still has an engine then yes you can still add things to make the car louder. I cannot just yet because I can’t void my warranty.
@@tylernguyen7581 I’m not sure if any manufacturers are even offering exhausts kits for the hybrid just yet, or ever. I personally can’t see a hybrid sounding good with a exhaust delete but hey I’ve yet to see it done yet!
@@kenthe4631 it is the EX-L Trim level. Extremely weird. I just read the owner manual and it does say my trim model has Leather-Wrapped steering wheel.
@@jordanaleman828 I know your trim is not basically one so I just wanna make sure you got the leather steering wheel. As I saw from your video your steering wheel is not leather, just check it.
That’s how efficient the modern gas combustion engines have come. They can be ran off “cheep” gas 68 octane. The engines are dead quite with all the restrictions in the exhaust.
A couple factors come into play with EV. Battery percentage, and speed. I can give you the exact mph from the owner manual but once you put the car in EV mode you can keep it under a certain mph and it’ll stay in EV mode until around 20% battery life and it’ll automatically run the engine to start charging the pack. The car will let you know if you aren’t allowed to be in EV mode at the moment, due to either “too cold” in the winter or just low battery! Hope that helped.
Mine does it without me pressing ev mode. I do see ev mode show up in the dash. Is there something i can do to stop it. I dont love the sound. I get stares in the work parking lot lol
There is a setting on the screen where you can lower or raise the volume of the artificial engine sound. But I don’t think you can completely disable it. That sound is to warn bystanders that your car is backing up or on, with it off you won’t hear anything except your tires turning and that can be dangerous for people who are blind/ hard of seeing and children. So I don’t mind it!
You can’t lower the out side noice because DOT requires for hybrids and EV’s to emit some type of noise to let bystanders know you’re moving. But you can adjust the “engine” noise in the settings to make it sounds louder or quieter under acceleration if you have the Hybrid version like in this video 👍
Hey, it’s a $30,000 car that goes 0-60 in 6 seconds. The accord is a family sedan that has amazing fuel economy. For sure hands down my favorite car I’ve owned so far.
