It could be stuck in second gear because if your going full throttle that monster should be doing wheelies no problem so change the shift point so it engages later That might help out!
Ahhhhhhhhh good point mate. Probably that's what it is as adjusted the first gear clutch around 1 whole turn out and still no change. So it must just change or be stuck in 2nd gear.
Gods above there ain't nothin' like the sound of a happy and healthy nitro at full chat like that! Need WAY more of this on the channel, Steve. The Toyan stuff is nice and all but it ain't even close to the magnificent banshee-like howl one of these little monsters spits out!
Yeah , but so few places to bash around, people call the police for noice in 5 secs , not to mention I got the forest rangers on me suspecting I cut trees with a chainsaw
@@Cormano980 It's my own private property I can do on it as I please. Not going electric because someone else doesn't like the sound. Then again my nearest neighbor is so far away I'd have to fire up a pulse jet engine for them to hear anything at all, so meh.
You could see it getting faster and jumpier as the video went along. I'm no expert but I just think getting it leaned a tad more and you could hear it wanting to shift just as he was having to start braking so it was real close. Adjust the shift point a smidge and keep driving her. Love the video man! Love the Savage. New body is pretty mean looking.
If it has a slipper on the spur gear then that is too loose. Tighten it up and should be wayyyy better. That is if the clutch is ok. That’s what it sounds like to me. Like it’s slipping way to much.
Once the engine is tuned, it will pop wheelies and hit the two speed no problem. Once you have it running leaner on the hsn it will be much faster and get more airflow and you won't be on the throttle for as long so the temps should stay around the same, but it will perform much better.
Adjust the transmission shift screws. Take the entire assembly out and completely remove the shift screws, spring and tiny ball of you need to. I noticed that hpi assembled them sometimes with the shift spring torqued all the way down, meaning the shifting is always wrong
As the owner of a Revo 3.3, Slayer pro 3.3, Tmaxx 3.3 and Savage .25, I can say they're all about even. The Savage is a beast of a truck, doesn't handle as well as Revo or Tmaxx. All of em are great trucks
Sounds like it’s stuck in second. Tighten your spur gear and raise your shift point for 1st gear. It may be shifting just way too soon. It appears like it’s getting moving at a decent clip which leads me to believe it’s just shifting too early. I had to raise the shift point on my savage and that fixed it.
Is running like is struggling, like slipping, i don't know. All i know is i just bought a revo 3.3 and can't wait to get it. Because man i miss nitro and it looks like is making a come back, i wish i could of bought a savage but holy shit HPI tripping on that 709 price tag.
Can’t wait to see this beast running right mate awesome video making me want Iv just brought some nitro getting my nitros out again whoop whoop can’t wait
There should be a place on the trans that you can adjust the shift point. Also maybe tighten up the clutch disks as well.Still run my original Savage they are pretty tough.I have a Novarossi 21 its a good upgrade.I'm just a old nitro guy myself. But you should be able to adjust the trans same as the originals.
Waiting for another video ...take the transmission apart make sure everything is tight from top........ Tighten your spur gear... No slip. Turn your first gear clutch small hex half turn... 💪
I heard these new savages have the shift adjustment set wrong from the factory. I heard the correct adjustment is screw it all the way in, then back it out 4 full turns
Definitely stuck in 2nd gear and slipper possibly slipping, mine was the same way when i got it. Pulls wheelies on command all the way through first and on the 1-2 shift after a tune
Did you end up getting this running better? Was it an easy fix? I'm thinking about getting one of these but I don't know how easy something like this would be to fix. Great channel - thanks!
G'day, this Savage X is in no way as good as the Savage X I bought 10 years ago, there are a number of issues with it, plus value for money is way down. I do not like commenting negatively in a public space, I cannot find anywhere on the HPI site where I can review this truck, to let them know what I think. I bought one of these trucks in February, this year, I had the same issues. That is as much as I will say for now, unless you are interested in hearing more. Do not get me wrong, the Savage looks good and has the same chassis and suspension toughness as the old one, just has other issues that the old one did not have.
that trans is way out of wack . back when i raced my savage i had 3 speed trans , sway bar , integy 3 spring piggyback shocks , rpm x wide arms , lunsford a arm pins and adjust , integy x wide h pin tires 140mm and rims , THS Racing THS8025 Tuned Pipe Set (best pipe ever ),jr racing servos , novarossi .28 7 port motor , carbon fiber xxl tvp plates and for a bodys was hpi hearse and proline atv . one of the fastest best handling rcs ive ever owned !
Hey mate have you managed to play around with the gearbox and get it shifting gears? I reckon my ones also the same and stuck in the 1 gear which I believe is 2nd
Seemed like it wasn't running right it should have way more nut than that something is off but you can definitely adjust the trans. I've owned a few and have the last version before yours and also had the really old purple carb engine ones. Good luck love the truck!
All I run is nitro. It’s too rich so it’s not revving high enough to shift. Lean it out on top just a bit until it shifts. Those temperatures aren’t high at all. So it will be fine.
Looks nice, one of these is on my radar however also torn between the Kyosho USA-1. P.s. Am I the only person utterly confused by the number of HPI Savage models?
Idle gap is to small 100% That and all nitro needs to spew out fuel bro the fuel sucks out temps and gets them right out the pipe. Also fhe power drastically increased 10 fold 😎👍 Due to the low idle setting better
It's stuck in 2nd gear. First makes the truck wheelie like crazy and 2nd has that high winding pitch thats all over this video. If I had to bet I would say the clutch for 2nd gear is backed out way too much. Therefore the 2nd gear takes over at very low RPM and 1st gear never gets a chance to torque up. Just check that arm on the clutch. I bet thats got very little tension on the spring....
How to remedy though man? As mine is stuck in second. I found thag rhe screw was all the way in from factory so am now at 3 turns out but still stuck in second
@@charleswatson3951 if you are truly stuck in 2nd ie no wheelies off the line you need to go 1/4 a turn in (clockwise) AT A TIME!!! To adjust the shift. Stuck in second means the spring does not have enough tension to hold the arm inside the clutch until you build high rpm. That high rpm will open the clutch so 2nd gear can contact it and take over that drive shaft. How to tell if you are stuck in 2nd? No power off the line but good top speed. No power to wheelie off the line. Look at my videos and check out the savage one. I have two that show both. One is stuck in second and another is stuck in 1st.
@@charleswatson3951 my setting to shift is currently 4 and 1/4 turns out from total bottomed. That why when you said 3 turns out from bottom and your stuck in 2nd it sounds off. If you said stuck in first I would think that's correct. I suggest you start from bottom just to verify. Back it out 4 turns and rotate the clutch inside the housing unit you see that silver ball on the backside of the clutch arm. Then use a Allen wrench to push that arm in just below that silver ball in that rounded out grove. See if it will retract when you let off the arm.
@@rcbrooks3543 thanks man, I will try my best. It's deffo second. I've heard though that because it was all the way in the spring can get crushed? At 3 turns out the screw itself feels loose. Ball ache man.
Wow she started write up. I mis my nitro in my old savage shes electric now. I got a big red motor for my savage 4.6 soon i will put her in im loveing this electric motor my truck not changing gears. Its need to be adjusted. Mine has 3 speed trans. Try that new big red motor
Lean her out a bit should shift change .had the same issue running in LRP 32 with my X 3 speed. Where was this mate ? Near the tennis courts ? A mate suggested I check out the BMX track near crestwood..Turon Avenue reserve its called apparently.. check it out apparently old school dirt BMX track .. haven't been yet. Might head up next weekend
Yeah man near the courts. The track is good but don't bother going unless it's out of normal times. It is crazy busy. No chance to use the cats at all. Sucks.
@@RCTanksTrucks247 sure that's all it was?? It didn't seem to have any torque? It had bad acceleration and if it was stuck in 1st it should have been popping wheelies at least??
I was an electric guy for a long while, decided to take the plunge into nitro during the covid downtime, I didn't think I'd care for it, but it's just about as much fun just starting the thing as it is driving an electric.
@@vivos71 Yea it's so much fun when the nitro takes an hour to start and tune(if it starts at all) lol..So much more fun than ripping it up on 6s lipo!! Who would want instant reliable power anyway??!!
@@philthyco1 I've never had an instance with any of my vehicles where it's taken more than 5 mins to start including pre-heating. I guess it wouldn't be fun for those who don't like problem solving though.
@@vivos71 Yea well like you said you just got in the nitro hobby so your rigs are new..after months or years they have issues everytime they run..If they run lol..The reason I dont mess with nitro anymore is because I only have so much time to run my RC's why would I want to waste time just trying to get them to start? Lol..Cheers.
@@LawrenceTimme I was through it all with a savage 21, a t maxx lol years ago. I raced nitro truggy. I know what I’m doing. It’s not worth the bother when electric kicks butt.
