Hyundai is punching way above its price with the 2021 Elantra. For $23,000 after options, this Elantra SEL is a great place to be and it manages to hold its own in the handling department. Although it does not have Independent Rear Suspension, it makes the best of its budget hardware with excellent tuning.
Thanks to the friendly folks at McGovern Hyundai in Brockton, MA for loaning me this Elantra. Find their inventory here: www.mcgovernhy...

I'm really impressed with the new Honda Accord. Exceptional gas mileage for how much pep it has with the 1.5 turbo. Features Honda's lane keeping and adaptive cruise control. Styling is good mix of generic and sporty. Plenty of space for people or cargo. Very reliable thus far too, as with all my old Hondas. I'm very impressed for a daily at 24k...

I just got a SEL 2021 with Electric Shadow color. It looks like primer gray body, but it really shows all the lines and goes really nice with the black rims can't wait to pick it up in couple days... I'm literally getting it fresh off the boat, not even test driven just bought it. In this chip shortage car market wasn't paying price of A new car for a used car with 100k miles on it.... like wtf. Be first time in my life driving a car off a dealership lot and the value doesn't depreciate just goes up.

I absolutely love the new Elantra! It's bold and daring. I don't like anything that is bland or basic. I currently owned a 2017 Hyundai Elantra Value Edition. To be honest, Hyundai was never my first choice when it comes to car shopping. But what attracts me about my current Elantra is the features for the money and the warranty. To me, my current Elantra gives me Audi-esqe/VW vibes. Which makes sense, because the current VP of Hyundai Albert Bierman, used to be the head designer for VW and Audi. I have friend of mine who drives a 2017 Toyota Corolla LE. He was shocked with all the features my car has. My car has heated seats and it's cloth! Sunroof, blinspot monitoring, and push start. When I showed him the smart trunk feature, it was all over! I always say this about Hyundai/Kia. They were the first to integrate tech features in their cars. They were the first to bring in panoramic sunroofs in an economy car segment. Couldn't even get that in a Honda or Toyota. I'm looking to trade my car in end of the year for a fully loaded 2021 Elantra Limited. That ambient lighting and that full Mercedes like dash is what sold me. Not to mention that fastback sport styling that makes the Corolla and even the upcoming new Civic looks vanilla.

I'm currently renting a 2021 Soul with the same engine and transmission as the Elantra and it's made me want to look into the Elantra. I enjoy driving the snot out of a basic car, it's the whole "more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow." I don't really like the exterior, but the features and interior really look good. Especially at $20k, which is what the SEL with Convenience package is selling for where I live.

Actually, right now used cars are appreciating in value 😂 Not even kidding! Bought a CPO in June, it’s now selling for $2-4k more now than what I paid and believe me I didn’t get a great deal. I mean, I did, but only because it’s still at the Hyundai price point. But it’s not like I got it at a rock bottom price, ya know? They’re selling for well over MSRP currently. I wouldn’t give any car up right now though, you’d not be able to afford to replace it, if you could even find an available car right now at all!! The industry has gone insane 😂

@@TedwardDrives I know, that’s the whole point I’m making 😂 It’s craziness. This shortage and the crazy pricing is just unheard of before now. Right now I could sell the CPO that I only bought 4 months ago and make about 4K off the deal!!?!? That is just so insane to me!! I wouldn’t dare, because I don’t have a back up car and I know I’d be overpaying if I tried to buy something today. So I’ll just keep my pristinely kept, low mileage CPO and be perfectly happy as a spectator watching the auto market go crazy 😂 I’m only laughing at the absurdity of it all. In all honesty, I really do hope it ends soon though. I feel terrible for people in more desperate situations who need an affordable & reliable vehicle. When the market is like this, there’s a lot of shitty things that go on in both the new and used markets and people get taken advantage of 😢

I bought the 2021 Elantra SEL w/convenience & premium packages for our teenage daughter, which brings its features to right below the Limited trim. But since it’s not a Limited she gets to keep wireless Apple CarPlay!! But what she loses is the leather seating and the large screen with navigation. She prefers Google maps to my Sonata navigation system so that doesn’t matter at all to her. And the wireless Apple CarPlay will be far more useful to my daughter than the leather seats & a bigger screen would be, so it’s no great loss. 😂 She is in LOVE with her sporty little car 😍 And all the safety features & smart drive assist features makes this mama’s heart happy ♥️ We never expected to be buying her a brand new car but with the shortage, we had little other choice. What makes that hurt less is Hyundai’s price point. We only spent a couple thousand more than what our max was, since we were looking for a new-ish Hyundai CPO we knew we were going to be spending a good amount anyway. I just wanted her to have the safety features that I’d grown accustomed to having in my Hyundai’s. And I’ll never not buy a CPO, a used car with no protection is no longer at all attractive to me, not when automakers will stand behind their used car certifications now. But after looking for over a month for a decent CPO and not finding anything, I broadened the scope of my search to new and used cars and this beauty instantly popped up and located on the lot right at our preferred dealership and so we were able to give the sale to our favorite Hyundai salesman!! ♥️ So yes, while it is a couple thousand more than we wanted to spend, that peace of mind knowing she’s not in a clunker as a teenage girl on the road is how I can sleep at night. Also, the finance offer at the time shaved $1,500 off the pricetag anyway, so we didn’t really go too crazy over budget. And my husband and I now have peace of mind when she leaves the house on her own in a super safe vehicle 😍

I'm 6'4" and some small cars have uncomfortable seats for me. Also the CVT didn't have that rubber-band feel they usually do, it felt like an ordinary transmission. As soon as you said CVT, I dismissed this car. I drove a rental car with a CVT once, and it was awful! It's like driving with a manual but a worn-down clutch that keeps slipping! Very annoying! @8:10 you can hear what I'm talking about here, it's like the engine is struggling just to get the car going from a stop sign.

I love my 2021 Hyundai Elantra 😊 I commute about an hour/hour and a half to work everyday (depending on traffic) and this car is great for those long commutes. Heated seats are great in the cold mornings lol when it gets too hot, it automatically goes down from 3 to 2 😂 I have the electric shadow color. It’s super nice and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it. I also love the center console and the handle that is a bit of a divider between passenger and driver. And small detail but the cup holder are amazing because I can switch it to make it deeper or not so deep 😂 overall an amazing car and a good price 💕

10-15 years ago I laughed at Hyundai's because they just lacked originality and looked like they were made out of cheap plastic. When my neighbor purchased one I thought he had went insane. Now they have stepped up their game, and for 23k I would gladly take this car as a daily commuter over any Ford or Subaru. This is a neat daily driver for the price, albeit the CVT

How long until that "car in front of you is moving" reminder beep becomes really annoying? And I wonder what caked on snow would do to those sensors?
@marco.morel04
@marco.morel04 3 года назад
At least in my Toyota, the sensors are smart enough to detect they’ve been obstructed by snow and will disable all the safety systems that could otherwise be accidentally activated due to the obstruction. You will then get a “Radar Not Ready” error followed by a “Clean Radar Sensor” error so I assume Hyundai does the same

It seems like a nice car overall and good bang for your buck. I prefer the exterior design of my 2018, but the interior of this new 2021 looks very upmarket. I also like that they gave the back seat more room, as mine is seriously lacking headroom with its coupe-like roofline. I do wish they would start making sedans function as liftbacks though for better practicality since they are making the decklids so short these days.

I share your loathing for CVTs as well. How do you feel about transmissions like VW's DSG automatic with Tiptronic?
@TedwardDrives
@TedwardDrives 3 года назад
the DSG is a true dual clutch which is great, but I don't like their tuning. They engage the clutch when you release the brake rather than waiting until you apply throttle. I think they wear prematurely because of it.

I completely agree with you about the Subaru Legacy. I took one test drive with a base model 2020 Legacy and my parents in the back and with two people plus the driver, that drivetrain was absolutely GUTLESS. We found the Crosstrek 2.0i Limited with the 147hp engine much nicer to drive because it felt like it could get out of its own way. Now three months into the new car search, I'm going to be looking at this same trim Elantra and a Tucson.

Looks like you have some different/better options setups in the US than Canada. Here to get the dual screens you need to go all the way to the top plus add the tech package, but that looks like a somewhat smaller screen here. That option would be nice to bring down to the Preferred at least in the 2022 refresh.

You drive it light and get even better it’s comfortable, with some nice modern tech features, on the sel it gets wireless CarPlay. Decent res on the infotainment and rear back up cam. For the price I think it’s best in class

I have a 2017 Santa Fe Sport, not the best vehicle in the world for a driving enthusiast but it has enough to be sporty. With my Santa Fe if I put it into Sport or ECO mode, it changes the shift points as well as the pedal feel/reaction since it's drive by wire. I typically keep it in Schport mode and because I don't have a CVT I will also put it into manual shift mode, typically using it for down shifting. Hyundai has come a long way from its beginnings with the Excel and having driven one I can confirm that those things were garbage. Hyundai (and by proxy Kia) has elevated it's game & is making cars that people want to drive. My first reaction to seeing this Elantra was , "Wow, that looks great!". My wife's 3rd Gen Accent has 141K on it & is still going, though we will probably look into replacing it and this looks like a good contender for being the replacement. I love that it has the blind spot warning light in the driver's mirror (though that may be mandated standard equipment just like backup cameras). Also, love the fact you went to Blue Hills for your test drive, some great roads up there that more people need to just enjoy! Also, that tri axle driver probably got cited for dumping half his load on 128...

Looks pretty good, the engine is underwhelming though. My 8th gen 1.8L civic develops the same power, and that's 10 years old with a 200cc deficit. Plus I hate CVTs. Manual is much better, and would've shaved some dollarinos off the price.

"ordinary car" , it looks like a spaceship compared to european mid size hyundais. Also what is that rear leg room! Damn son! Definitely a selling point. It's a no nonsense good car, does it come without the computerscreen dashboard and / or cvt? (yes , I am that guy) And I'm going to agree with you on the legacy, I drove an older one cause I was interested in it (on paper it ticked *all* the boxes I had), but it was just not a good car to drive.
