Negative review because it's not as good as rivals. Still would be a decent car of course and if i liked this I'd get it over a 3 series or the rivals. Wouldn't care that it's a bit worse than the rivals.
Hi Anthony, lucky you! My XF (X250 - 2013 - 2.2D) has minor issues every 3-6months (partly because it's at the 6th year of its life). 2 months ago, I replaced the EGR, then the aircon motor broke. After fixing the aircon motor 2 weeks ago, the 2 rear doors' electric lock broke (I have to manually unlock them from the front seats). Yesterday, it gave me another "false warning" of low coolant liquid. All in all, it's a problematic child, but which children aren't? The drive and "feel" from driving a Jag is priceless, especially the dynamics of the handling and not the miss out the most important thing, the beautiful design and silhouette of the car.
Have a 14 XF with 30k on it. Sprung multiple leaks in the cooling system. I topped the coolant off and headed for the dealer. No warning lights on the way... but by the time I got there, they claim an overheat and requires a full engine over-haul. Only good news was Jag-LR have offered to replaced the whole engine free of charge (even though outside of warranty). Would I buy another? Absolutely, as long as it had a warranty. It is a much nicer car to drive (at a comparable price) vs German competitors. I like the simple interior, and love how tail happy it is. Most importantly, where I live BMWs and MCDs are as common as blackheads, I hate being like everyone else. Worth a bit of hassle.
"Jaguar has a poor reliability...................." What a load of sh....t !!!! That was way back mate, you were not even born. My 4th Jag now and as no: 1 still impressed and pleased it is a very reliable make !!!!
I took a peek at what XE owners think in the Jaguar forums. I didn’t see much complaints which gives me the impression that it is a good car. Cost of maintenance is also lower than the BMW 3 series but Lexus is still better. But to me Jaguars exude elegance.
Absolutely beatiful car. It's not boring, it's just not trying way too hard to do something "exciting" like everyone else. This looks downright classic, well proportioned, balanced and by far the one that will look the best in 5-10 years. I would definitely choose the XE over the 3 germans, and not just design-wise
i remember when people used to talk about the driving experience first then the boot... for my money i bought a 2017 XE 35t r-sport - and it’s fantastic. if i’d wanted a big boot large rear seating i’d have bought a volvo.
@@simongentry I've had a 4 pot XE ('16 25T) for a few years now, and honestly, they're great - my previous car was a 3.6L V6, and I remember worrying that the 4-pot would feel slow... BEFORE i actually drove it! they're actually surprisingly fast, and I'd say they're the equivalent of a big N/A V6. Obviously not as quick as the S/C XE's, but still bloody good. (disclaimer) If you're gonna go with the a 4-pot Jag, go the high output petrol (25T, P300) - diesels are for bloody tractors!
I owned an XE for 2yrs and it was a great car. I never had a problem with it, it drove great, infotainment was good, never had any issues until another stupid driver rammed and totalled it. I have an audi now and its not as fun to drive or that great looking, will switch back to Jag when I change my car again
Besides great looks he fails to mention the pure fun factor. I get into my 2017 XE and I can't help but smile every time. Of course my 35t has the V6, supercharged engine so there's that. A shame they quit using the V6. Of course that does great things for my resale value!
Superb new design. Better in many ways than reviewer's ever mention. The interior for a start looks better than any of the the dull German rivals, Jags have a classy finish to them. The ride is also stunning, feels really well engineered and my friends P300 goes like a missile. None of my other friends have had any reliability issues in all the years they had one, unlike my old BMW and Audi!!!
Um no. I am a big fan of Jaguar but there is no reason for anybody to buy this car. The design is positively boring and the interior doesn't even look like Jaguar designed it. Jaguar needs to go back to being Jaguar and stop trying to be BMW.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 What are you talking about? The interior is unique in it's class like a Jaguar should be. The exterior is under stated but elegant like a Jaguar should be. In what way are Jaguar trying to be BMW? Because Jaguar has out designed it's German rivals since the start, and hell I'm a hardcore BMW fan.
@@LawAbidingCat Sorry but there is nothing unique about that interior. Look at the passenger side of the dash - they didn't even try to hide the airbag. Looks like a dash/airbag from year 1999. The side vents look goofy up against the doors and and the doors have three stupid levels with the buttons in all the wrong places. It's just a mess. The exterior is as exciting as a root canal. Just like the x-type - this is a flop. Even the new Mazda3 has a better looking interior for 1/3 the price.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 It's better looking than it's rivals, other than the Alfa. The BMW's stupid headlight design and horrid lines, the Mercedes bland exterior the Audi's ugly gaping mouth. And what do you want the passenger dash to look like? Over designed and cluttered like a Lamborghini? And at least it isn't crooked like whatever BMW's dash design is. Jaguar's get their charm from being understated. You seem to miss that.
The Jaguar is obviously the most beautiful of the four you mention, the other three are caricatures of their manufacturers styling licks that have been stale for 30 years. The Jag is sinuous.
The manufacturer doesn’t „tune” the gearbox as such. Tuning by the manufacturer is limited to selecting when the gearbox reacts and switches gears in the rev range, not how it changes them. Gears will be changed exactly the same way every time as the manufacturer of the gearbox (ZF) designed it. No other way. I’ve owned a 2016 4-series with the 8-speed ZF and I’ve made a lot of miles in XE’s, XF’s and F-Pace’s and didn’t ever notice a difference between BMW and Jag.
@@konradmichalski758 I own a BMW X5 and a Jaguar XE, the tuning makes a big difference, the gearbox in the Jag is laggy compared to the one in the BMW. When you floor it in the Jag, there is a 1 or 2 second delay before the gearbox downshifts, where as in the BMW the downshifts is instantaneous.
I don’t get all the negative comments about the xe, has anyone actually owned or drove one thats is moaning about it? I have a 67 240 rsport awd with tons of extras it’s amazing to drive and never fails to make me smile every time I get in it, it also looks great with the black-pack an upgraded alloys
Love my XE s. Yes materials are no match for germans, but I prefer interior and exterior design . Have driven 335d and 330e and xe is noticeably better in my opinion.
Usually those bashing it are those who have never sat nor driven one. I bought a 20d Prestige, and since I mostly work out of a car, it is like a plush office on wheels. The only regret is that I didn't get one of the petrol engines, but since I drive a lot, I had to go diesel, which turned out to be very frugal.
@@freightliner_86 I've had my new shape r dynamic SE 180d for a week.. In the right colour.. EIGER grey and its simply a gorgeous car... I've had BMW for 15 years.. This car is stunning
This guy presenting is getting so much better. He came across as corporate in the earlier days but is being more himself now and personality is coming through. But give him some money will you; a bloody iPhone SE 😂 And if your reading this, sorry for all the he’s and him’s. Don’t think I know your name....
Then get one. But best to wait a couple of years and let some sucker take the massive depreciation hit first. Then pick one up for the price of ....well, not very much.
@@crickcrot They are very pricey but their reliability cannot be questioned. Apparently the agents provide excellent service. Incidentally, I drive an Audi A5 Sport 2 litre petrol.
This is probably the last Jag we'll see in this segment. Pity. Looks wise, the front end remains far too conservative imo. It lacks the sexiness of an Alfa, the assertiveness of a BM and the quality of a Merc. My guess, this is an area the new Jag design boss will improve.
Funny you say that, cos I picked the Jag, but the Alpha was a very close second for me... I get the feeling that Alpha Guilia and Jag XE buyers have a lot in common... I didn't even consider a 3-Series, C-Class or A4, because I'm not a real-estate agent, elderly or a douche (in that order).
C'mon it is a very good car, stop talking about its rivals like they are some kind of greek gods. I'm honestly tired of this overpriced and dull german cars...it is time for others automakers also..they deserve it!!!
If you have a family in it its good but there are better out there .If you want to drive and enjoy the handling and performance then the Xe is the car for you its brilliant i love it
The infotainment system is the best compared to its rivals. The exterior arguably is the best looking compared to the competition. The review was very negative on the car, i believe this is a great contender.
I'd put the XE on top of the rivals big 3 BUT, as Italian, I wish to remind you the Alfa Giulia which is also a very good looking car for this segment.
Thanks for another informative expert review !. The XE has sold ok considering the saloon market has plummeted in favour of crossovers & SUV's. Totally bored of the same old generic German designs , so by default the Jag , with it's much needed facelift wins , should of been like this from the start !. I personally would much rather drive a car that is rare & exclusive than follow the predictable choices that are on every street in the country , you would think the vast numbers available used out of warranty with high maintenance costs would affect the resale value , particularly BMW , who have come last , by some margin in some recent reliability surveys.
There's nothing grabbing me with the German styling. Jag certainly wins there. Buy a car built in the UK if you can afford a new car. Keep a british worker in a british job. You lot buying german would soon complain if you lost your job to 1.
I do wonder why the reviewer keeps comparing it negatively to German rivals and states that in surveys that Jaguar don't do well, although Jaguar do significantly better than its German rivals, but this is not mentioned!
At least he admitted that it drives better than the 3 Series. The XE looks better, it drives better, the boot is around the same size as the 3 Series - I'm sold.
Love the car, but "Britain's answer to the likes of the Audi a4"? you do know that Jaguar isn't a British company anymore. It was sold off to Tata Motors several years ago so technically it use to be British, now it's more of Mumbai's answer to the likes of the Audi a4.
Moss they still make diesels but Jaguar have confirmed not so long ago that they focusing more towards electric and in petrol vehicles due to Jag lack of sales because no one wants to buy diesels in the future
4:04 It doesn't turn the rear view mirror into a camera. It turns it into... wait for it... a screen! And you're supposed to be the tech guy who reviews cars for a living?? Good, glad you're not a doctor.
'All models get RWD'. Incorrect. The P300 is only available in AWD. Don't worry, the steering is absolutely fine. It is perfect. The gearbox is fine. The P300 is excellent and well worth it. The handling wonderfull. I have adaptive dynamics but have the suspension and steering set to comfort on the individual setting as it is too hard on Scottish b roads. It is a 160 quid extra to have the dynamic settings configurable which is a rip off. The 18 way seats are really comfortable. Love the car
Decided to buy a new Jaguar 2 years ago and the build quality was simply awful for the price. Moved back to BMW after 6 months. Until JLR stop cutting costs and build cars that actually feel as beautiful as they look, i’ll be sticking with their German rivals
Quality control is JLR’s problem in my opinion, nothing wrong with the engineering. In short sadly if you buy a JLR product, you have go in expecting minor cosmetic issues out of the box. In my experience however reliability is as good as German rivals (especially BMW of which have have had a couple)
Only 1 engine is available here in the US, and that's the 296 hp 4 banger... it was a fantastic ride around Hollywood. People look at it way more than a 3 series. Too many female asain teenagers drive the 3 series around.
that's because the 3-series is what you buy when you have a little bit of money, know very little if anything about cars, but you want a euro car for your image... I've had a '15 XE for 2 years now, and it still turns heads... no way does a 5 year old 3-series do that! Oh, and it's wicked to drive!
I just watched a much longer review and my only criticism was lack of personal opinion. Well you had a lot of opinions and that's good however many people commenting thought you were quite wrong and that's bad. Still find the XE very interesting and it remains on my short list.
I had all of them brands and here are the reliability results: Audi > BMW > ....> Jaaag. I love Jags but they just are not so well made and reliable. Hope this new one is better.
They need to facelift the xf and xj as they are looking a little dated, but they need to keep the jaguar round shifter. It's apart of the dna. I get that you want to be modern and on trend but you still need to have your identity
I’m quite disappointed that the climate controls and infotainment system are straight out of the Range Rover. I just feel like it doesn’t fit into the Jag and the infotainment system looks out of place.
"2021" in the title, video uploaded in 2019? wtf? 2021 models now have a mild hybrid system. I wanted to check out how they perform but certainly your review shows an older model. Or am I missing something?
Quite negative. Not justified however and I love them. On my 3rd XE now, one gripe, why have they turned off the rear lights in daytime? My previous 2 XE's had permanent rear daytime lights lit (2016 and 2018). The 2020 model does not! Surely a step back???
