When you take the top off, you’ll need to install the 50 Cal on a center post mount. When you add the WW2 stars...make sure you add the serial number on the hood.
I have owned a YJ, TJ, TWO JK'S and now I have a 2018 JL with a 2.0 L turbo charged engine with 270 HP paired with a 8 speed automatic transmission. Best Jeep I have ever owned.
@@hrfunk My mother wouldn't let me take the driving test until I learned stick, even though we didn't even own one at the time. She borrowed my aunt's VW Rabbit. I did the same with my son's, but we had one, a 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban. It had manual hubs too.
Nice Wrangler! I bought a 2-door Rubicon earlier this year in firecracker red which I have now heavily modified. I really love it for the narrow mountain roads I travel here in Oregon.
Yes add the stars,I would like to see how they look, my wrangler is sting gray ,outher wise it's the same as yours, stick shift and all.good video thanks. Jim
Nice! I too have have had Jeeps since my first car. Well I had a Tacoma for 2 years but sold it for a Jeep, just didn’t feel right. Father was the same way, guess it runs in the blood. Never had problems with any of them.
HR, regarding The military theme, I think it it’s up to you totally, In my mind as the army and Air Force veteran my version of doing similar, would be to order custom solid steel wheels to replace the factory wheels, Then probably go with the actual NDT skinny tires that the military used to use historically. these tires run from about 31 inches to33×9.3 wide
Nice little rig. As for upgrades, I live in rural Colorado/Utah where upgraded tires, wheels, and wench are a must. You’re needs may vary in your area.
That's a nice vehicle Chief! I like your minimalist approach, makes sense on a Jeep. And I've noticed overtime all that extra electronic crap you have in the doors, on my vehicle's I start to have problems with! LOl! I think your Jeep would look really nice with stars on the doors and Hood.
HR - Thank you, I absolutely love your new Jeep, including the color, (although - personally - I wouldn’t add the WWII Army “starts,” since: (a) they’re Army and (b) I prefer inconspicuousness). I too am an ardent minimalist, which getting to be quite hard to find especially in modern vehicles. In particular, every car - and I’ve been driving for over 55 years - I have ever owned (not my wife’s vehicles) has had a manual tribals mission, so I particularly applaud the six-speed. Incidentally, this same value also applies to 1911A1s, DA revolvers, bolt action rifles, and traditional SA/DA autoloaders. To summarize, that is a GREAT vehicle, congratulations!
I love the minimalist jeep. Nice. Go to your local sign shop and get them to make you some large magnet signs in your WW2 star design and stick them on the hood and doors. We use magnet signs for our work trucks and they look great and work great. But they are removable when we go to sell the trucks after full depreciation.
An extra $245 for that custom color is not bad at all, congratulations she's beautiful! I begged my wife to get a Jeep but she bought a Honda CRV for herself instead, we have fallen in love with it, but I would rather see her drive a Jeep.
I have the 2019 Sport S 2 door hard top. It has the Polar package, heated seat, heated steering wheel, remote start. This bad boy runs great with the 3.6L 8 speed with 33 inch tires.....I put A WWII Pinup Girl on the fender, she looks great, both do I mean lol.
@@hrfunk Well I wanted mine like yours less electric everything.....But they only had at the time the Sport S or a Rubicon, at my age I really don't see me rock crawling.
Kudos on your new Jeep! Nice layout and set-up for minimalist duty. It's your toy so do what you want with it. Nothing is permanent and you can always change it again if you don't like it. Hard to add valuables to it since you will be driving it around opened up in the summer, but you have to make compromises.
I like the color of the jeep. The Star would be cool you can get magnetic. White Stars so you can easily remove them.USMC seal Spare tire cover would be nice.I love your new Jeep.Front mounted winch would be nice as well.I bet with the 6 speed it's good on gas mileage. Good Job Buddy outstanding review.
I’m with you on getting a minimalist Jeep. Mine is a 2017 2 door Willys, basically I have no luxury options besides LEDs. No power locks or windows etc
I really like the Jeep! Consider doing " Kilroy was Here" under the Hood or anyplace where you can fit it. The stars would be neat too. If you aren't sure you want the stars painted on. Look around for those magnetic Door stickers that some Businesses use. They are the sign of your choice but they are printed on a flexible magnet. Just a suggestion. Best Wishes! M.H.
@@mopar21 I can't understand why this seems to change. When I ordered my Jeep, I specifically requested half-doors. The salesman checked his computer and said they had been discontinued. Since then, I've heard a couple of other people say they are still available. Could it be a regional thing?
I have a very similar minimalist jeep as well. I love my Bestop soft doors. They leak and flutter like crazy, but fit in the back. Something the "real" doors won't do. Helps with those "brief summer showers".
White Star Decals are good and cheep, follow instructions carefully. Geoff Who kind-a likes the WW2 Aviation IDs, but some trucking company uses those.
Great idea about WW2 markings. You need the aggressive tires abd steel wheels we had on the Willy . Also, steel bumpers. I had a smallblock V8 in my CJ5 1972 with leg pipes
This is just my personal opinion about the locks. I like when they lock when i go and stay locked. It makes me feel safe that no one can come open my door when im parked.
Very nice simple jeep congratulations to you on owning this new jeep. I would like to know how is the driving with those regular Michelin tires, and is it very noisy on the road with soft top on..how about when driving is the engine smooth ... shifting I heard is awesome, I would like to buy one the simplest jeep possible with A/C next year. Thank you for your feedback.
Yeah, I do like that color, Sarge Green, or olive drab. And your choices for features that were doable, I agree too. haa, as if I'm in the market. But thanks for the rundown and excursion. All good.
Nice unit! Glad you ordered to get exactly what you want... In recent years 2 door Wranglers are approx 15% of total production... I bought a used 2012, 2 door. My first Wrangler and I just love it!... Among the first thing I did was deactivate the annoying auto door lock system and muted the annoying horn chirp in the alarm system :)
Hey Howard! My husband and I were previewing videos on the Jeep Wrangler in preparation for purchase and ran across yours! Good to see you!! Mary (Orville/Medina PD)
Manual transmission is the only way to go! Totally agree with you! Manual transmissions in all my vehicles. Simple is better. Old school! Way too many people are dependent on technology and can only drive an automatic.
I’m told they will have huge sales, they are asking way too much for new ones (I’d never pay 30k for one of these). I’ll be paying attention for 10k off!
Yes a 15" white star & broken circle on the hood, and a 12" on a rear tire cover that you should get to protect the tire from the sun anyway. Of course the originals didn't have doors, but they had a 6" white star without the circle on the back fenders, but if there is no room on the fenders, you could put those stars on the doors, but maybe 10 or 12". Add a 3 or 4 inch white star in the center of the front bumper, if you're not adding a winch there. You could also add 3 or 4 inch letters on the each side of the hood: U.S.A. or U.S.M.C. You could also add 3" lettering on the back bumper, on the right side: MP-11 (which of course stands for Military Police, and just pick your favorite number).
That is one sweet ride chief! I am envious. The decision to put the stars on it must be your decision alone. It has to make you happy. BTW, I took the safety paddle switch off my M&P and installed the plugs in the frame. Everything went back together fine and the pistol functions perfectly. I followed your video to do it.
They still had jeeps when I was in,the military ones were used with a trailer for hauling Ammo or Shells, they were so gutless and slow with little protection from the elements, multifuel capable they could run on some dirty stuff.
I was among the last Marines to be licensed to operate a Jeep. I only ever drove them a couple of times, but they impressed me enough that I've been driving a civilian version for over 20 years.
I was looking at the build tool and the half-door option IS out there, it's likely expensive is the factory will even send you a pair of half-doors. The option was called something like "dual doors group" or something. Good luck if you intend to take up the search for these. They do exist though.
Really nice looking Jeep! Americana Green ! The top also looks solid and makes it extremely versatile. Michelin Tires perfect We has a Willy's years ago it would go anywhere! Top down out in the country " Rat Patrol" . Have fun Best! Semper Fidelis
@@marcjacobs423 I did get the update Marc. Sorry, I didn't reply. Last week was pretty busy for me. Thanks for the photo. It's nice to know those sacrifices of the past are still remembered.
Love the color, but I would skip the decals. Buy/build a model Jeep, and dress it up. I bought a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the off-road package in 2008. It had 150,000 miles on the odometer, and I paid $1,000. It was fantastic, and my wife and I tried to get stuck in snow during the winter, and in the woods all year long. Never happened. We gave it to Jr 4 years later, and he killed it in a month. Enjoy! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍👍👍
Awesome!! I just moved to western wv .I need a 4x4 .jeep came to mind .... I'm shooting for a 2 door, hardtop, manual everything..... I miss not having one.
The color that you have is closer to 24087 OD green which was used from 1957 to 1975. I have my 1953 M38A1 painted in that color. I recommend that you do NOT put a star on the hood. It will be exposed to more direct sunlight and it will do strange things to the paint/decal. And decals are the way to go. Military Jeeps had canvas doors so I recommend that you put a 6 inch star above the JEEP logo in front of the doors. You might also do a smaller one on the front bumper and under the left tail light.
This is what the M151s looked like. M38A1 is similar except that the forward facing stars are on the front curve of the fenders and not the cowl. www.militarystencils.com/M151-SET-P245.aspx
Nice Jeep HR. Like the color choice. Stars and a SN would be awesome. Love the crank windows, especially on a two door. For me the only benefit of power windows is being able to control the rear windows from the driver's seat. Manual transmissions should be required in Wranglers. Automatics only for the disabled (ADA compliance). Personally I would have sprung for the hardtop, but I see the appeal of the soft top. Enjoy the new Jeep!
I’m looking at buying this jeep with the same basic features as my old CJ7 I bought new in 1985. 6 speed manual, soft top and 6 cylinder. Probably air conditioning. I only wish Jeep still made the old 4.2 liter 258 cid.
Well I did it. I took the window sticker from the purchase of my 1986 CJ7 and said build me one like it. $1000 down to order. It will take 11 to 12 weeks to get it. Hope there’s still some summer left when I get it. Do they make a shotgun rack for the Wrangler?
Very fitting hrfunk, congrats and enjoy. Wife and I love our black 2018. The JL design is very nice! Oh and this is our third 2-door and the hitch install was a breeze.
Just an opinion, all jeeps need a place for a jerry can , some form of a two way radio other than a cellphone maybe a small ham radio, and a quick access lockable car safe for your 1911 . Oh my vote would go for stealthy flat black WWII stars on the hood and doors to match the black trim. Great looking Jeep.👍🇺🇸
@@hrfunk Just in case someone missed it, a globe and anchor Marine spare tire cover. OOH RAH! I'm not a Marine but my Dad served in the Army Engineer corps during WWII in Greenland and Normandy building Churchill's harbor to resupply our boys and saw action in France and in the Rineland. So that's why I tell every Veteran Thanks for your service. For without them, I would not have the freedoms I have. God bless and have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy and Prosperous New Year!🎉🇺🇸 Sorry had to edit comment spare tire cover won't work because Jeep put the backup camera in the middle of the spare tire. Who knew?
In my 2012 JK wrangler, I can program the door locks from the center display to all unlock when I get out of the car. I assume this function may not have been available in 2007.
I love it and would order one just like it. There is one around here with the same color and it has the star on the hood plus a few more Military markings. A bit much but the star on the hood looks Great. As always God Bless and keep y'all safe.
Good Morning Chief. Have you considered doing hood and door wraps with the white stars? They can match the vinyl to your paint so that it looks painted on, but you can remove the wrap if you get tired of it. Magnetic stickers are fine (if you have metal doors and hood) but they are easy for people to remove and walk away with. Wraps are not cheap, but they are a good option if you don't want to paint permanent stars. Just something to consider. Have good one!
@@hrfunk great idea. When I worked for my county government many vendors on bid offered employees of the county a great discount on products and services. 👍🏻
It is getting more difficult to find manual trans. vehicles. My '12 Jeep Patriot had to be special ordered with a manual trans.. It is a minimalist too. Manual windows & door locks, tow hooks & block heater. I've been looking at new pickups but they all come with automatics. Guess I'll keep my Cummins/Dodge 3/4 ton. It recently turned over 250,000 miles.
HR you're making me think about spending money! My wife has issues about that and she may be contacting you with complaints. I suggest you run now. Seriously though, this makes me really miss my 1999 Sport!
I drove one for 20 years, and traded it for cash for a '88 F-150 4X4 I still have. On the stars, love the idea, at least the doors, but think "understatement" LOL
My wife’s last Chrysler had that keyless start system. It would let you get out with the fob in your pocket and still would run, but it made an annoying dinging sound the whole time. I always forgot about it when I was driving and would leave her in the car when I ran in a gas station. She was always mad when I got back in. Use this info at your own discretion..lol
I started my Jeep yesterday to let it warm up. No one was inside to tell me if it was "dinging" when I walked away. I've got mixed feelings about the fob business, but I suppose it's about like needing a key to start it.
@@hrfunk I forgot to lock the wife’s car a few times because I wasn’t actively handling the key fob. While we are complaining about automotive progress, let’s bring back dimmer switch buttons on the floor. My ‘79 CJ7 had that and it was awesome.
I ordered a very similar Jeep and love it. I ordered it with the same color, plus running boards, and a trailer hitch package. I also went with the anti slip differential that came with the optional AT tires. I did not however shell out for the air conditioner. I live in Wisconsin and this is just a second vehicle. I got the tan option for the seats, no extra cost. What state are you in?
