Having two 2-Door Jeep JLRs each with a manual gearbox, they are not everyone's cub of tea (ones a heavily modified off roader and the other is a stock JLR with daily driver duties). Since we live in a world where things has become so complicated, so sophisticated, so automated, including our driving experience , most will not ever experience what it is like to drive a vehicle without all those driving aids. All those aids have change us from "drivers" to "steering wheel holders" where no skills are required. It is nice that Jeep still makes something simple that you, the driver, must control (i.e., the acoustic driver). Yes, the Jeep maybe a bit quirky to drive, but you are the one driving it. Not some computer making the decisions for you. Since you are the one driving it, one must focus on the task at hand, thus a unique experience not replicated in other vehicles. While the 2-Door Jeep JL is very capable off road, its on road manners are really not that bad (Ok bad compared to a 911, but much better than Jeeps of old). If you want to be like everyone else, buy the BMW, Audi, Lexus, etc. and you too can be a steering wheel holder. For me and the others out there in the acoustic driver society, may Jeep always make a true Jeep. Anyway, thanks for the video.

A JKU owner here. I totally agree with everything you've said about being a Wrangler owner. Full of flaws, full of fun, nothing else like it on the road and I for one can't wait to get another one! If driving 'mum's school run SUV' floats your boat, crack on! If most people don't want one, all the better for those of us in this unique and fun-filled club! Long live the Wrangler.

Well it’s subjective I own a short wheel base rubicon and use it daily I’m also 6ft5 I don’t get any aches or pains driving it also you don’t get a 4x4 to go fast if that’s what you want to do then get a sports car. I must admit the wrangler is like marmite you ether love it or hate it.

I think you will find that 'Rubicon' refers to the Rubicon Trail in California.

A very good, very honest review, however there is one glaring omission....... You have just lost your discount at the Gosforth Park Hotel.... You normally include them in the first minute or two, but this time nothing, nada, nichts. Let's hope the review numbers make up for this 👍 lol.

What about the Lada Niva? That’s a proper 4x4, economical and cheap to buy.

Was it only me fine tuning my listening skills by discovering "the Land Rover Discovery going mono-cock"? Nobody else would have the balls to say that on the internets!

@@vanaramauk I went with a Jimny instead. Kinda has the same amount of ridiculousness, but in a smaller package. And I'm very happy with it :D

That uncomfortable silence at the end of the video said it all. Anyway , excellent review of deeply flawed car. Good to look at as a 5-yearold and saying I want one to crash one in to another. Maybe if my late father was still around he would liked it fro going hunting - but heck we had Lada Niva for that - and i assume it would be on same reliability rating as one , if it brakes in the winter on ice, You better have a friend with a Russian helicopter to pick it up and transport , cause that thing wont budge. On another note my DS 7 arrived just few hours ago - did a short ride in it and I'm loving it so far, it will take some time to get used to it, but so far i can say even on 20" rims it glides over road.

I do agree: Nice to look at but utterly useless in the real world!

An off-road magazine tested it against the new Glam Rover and the Jeep won by a small margin. Essentially you get a far worse on-road car for a marginally better off-road performance. Though the awful road handling might be considered a safety feature of the Wrangler - it disencourages drivers from going pedal to the metal with a dangerous ladder-frame vehicle.

The new defender is not even a defender anymore... in fact it is not even in the same category as the wrangler anymore, the defender is now against luxury SUVs as it has lost its original hardcore off-road character... This will also be reflected by the value of the used defenders in a few years... a company which has a horrible reliability reputation makes a car with more electronics than a NASA spaceship... not really confident in taking that off-road..

Nearly 3.5 turns lock-to-lock? Mine is 4.2 and it’s fine. Really…

I feel you are trying to compare a proper 4wd to a luxury or sports car they are design for off rd and we all know its a compromise on rd but overall this is very good vehicle. You are so negative go and review your sport cars as you have no idea what people that 4wd look for. You mention land rover sure its very confortable and capable but they are so expensive ,complicated and unreliable also depreciate so fast I have own three of them never againg.

At some point you just know this pile of steaming s***e will be at the side of the road, with steam billowing out its bonnet, or with something electronic either broken or going 'doink'.

Well done. No seriously, well done Jeep. What with crash regs, co2 emissions fines (ok, 500 probably offsets that a bit), homologation costs (the rhd bit especially), you wonder why jeep even bothered digging this massive trench for itself for about 8 sales a year (now it's petrol only). And yet they did. Big middle finger to the EU!
