Great review! The Z900 was my first bike with only parking lot experience on a Ninja 250 before that. I found it extremely easy to ride and very confidence inspiring. It definitely can be a beginner bike, as long as you respect it. It feels no different than something with half it's displacement if you treat it as such. I'm happy i didnt go with a 400 or 650 honestly, but being a more mature rider - i can definitely see how it could get someone younger and less experienced into some big trouble.
@thatoneguymoto
@thatoneguymoto 2 года назад
Thank you! And, I 💯 agree with more mature riders being able to handle a larger first bike than younger/aggressive riders. Also, I think any bike with ride modes helps to balance out a bike with an engine this big. Then it boils down to dimensions (weight, seat height, etc).

@@thatoneguymoto I was going for the Z650 at first, but found there was less than a $1000 difference and the z900 in rain mode puts it at an identical power level. So happy i started with the 900 instead. It's an outstanding bike for the price!

I rode one just this weekend at the same event but in PA. (Probably the same bike, too.) These shows are not bad if you like to ride lots of different bikes, but arrive early and have a priority becuase they fill up fast. This Z900 is smooth as butter for me. Too good of a value to pass up. And really, I can't see myself riding a fancy bike from Europe.

I currently own a Ninja 650 and the seat height is the same as the Z900. I bought that Z900 last weekend as I wanted more power and more cylinders to reduce engine vibration. The posture felt even better than the Ninja but is basically the same. As is the weight of the Ninja 650. It's going to be a long winter waiting for it to be taken out of storage. I rode this exact bike in Chicago. Would basically say that for the price it's very hard to beat the performance and power you're getting. Just a really well balanced bike for cheap. I have been thinking about the z900se or gsxs1000 for a possible future bike. Because of my short legs I worry about seat height. Could you tell me if you normally wear shoes with a higher height, and the your inseam length and is the z900 seat have enough padding that a custom upholstery shop can redo the seat to a lower height and install a high quality dense foam. Many bikes I've tiptoed and hoped a remedy might be available without changing the suspension geometry. Plus have you ridden the gsxs1000 yet.

I know this an older video. I appreciate your review! Right now I am torn between the 2023 Z900 and a 2018 Ducati S. I love the look of the Kawasaki and love the riding position and naked sport bike aspect - that's why I am not looking at a Ninja. The other big factor is that the Z900 is $3000 less expensive, even though the Ducati has 12k miles on it. Any feedback would be appreciated! I want something sportier than my Ducati Scrambler 800 - which I love, but I would love something just "that much more fun." Thank you!

Regarding the seating position, are you actually getting pushed into the tank? I know a lot of naked bikes have seats that are angled forward that make you slide into the tank constantly.

I've ridden some bike that pushed you forward towards the tank, but didn't feel like this was the case with the Z900. I tried sliding back a bit to see if that made a difference, but still no. Enough Z900 owners have chimed in, that I think it was just the bike I rode.

I was really looking at a 2022 MT-09 SP because of the color choice and feature set. Everyone has said the quick shifter and etc for Yamaha is really well done. I have also really looked intensely at the 2022 Z900 (I love the blue black color option). Most of what I’ve read and seen for this bike is that the power delivery is so smooth and very uniform across the rev range. Anyone have thoughts between these two bikes? I haven’t found something that would sway my decision one way or the other yet. I really do think they’re both quality bikes but can’t seem to choose one over the other.
@Steve-motorcycles

I own both the Z900 and the Gen 3, MT09SP You can’t go far wrong with either. But if I had to choose one, it would be the Yamaha.
@idriveanagerar
@idriveanagerar 2 года назад
@@Steve-motorcycles what makes you prefer the MT09? I feel that most of what I’ve read and seen on specs is that the Kawasaki is heavier and a bit smoother, but Yamaha has a better shifter, some more ideal features and likely better sound. It’s really a good neck and neck race tbh if both of these bikes have been compared as much as they do. Just curious to see from owner’s perspectives what makes you say one vs the other.
@Steve-motorcycles
@Steve-motorcycles 2 года назад
@@idriveanagerar I can’t give a definitive answer as you are right, there both really good bikes but quite different. I’d have picked the Z900 over the previous generation MT09. The new MT09 and also the SP have moved the game on. Both bikes now handle great. The main differences are, the punchy exciting CP3 engine has so much more low to mid range Vs the smoothness of the inline four with its great even power delivery. On paper there isn’t much between it but they sure feel different. + the MT09 has up to date rider aides which are completely on another level. It’s hard to criticise either bike, your best bet is ride both. It’s a boring answer, but there isn’t a poor or wrong choice. Pick the one you like best once you have given both a go. I am sure either won’t disappoint
@idriveanagerar
@idriveanagerar 2 года назад
@@Steve-motorcycles definitely agree with that they’re both solid bike choices. A thing I’ve seen come up with quite a few people reviewing them is do you find the fit and finish of the MT09 a bit lackluster? I know several have commented on just shoddy cable ties and things similar on the MT09 (SP). Do you find that to be the case on yours? And what do you feel about the fit and finish in the Z900? I haven’t had the chance yet to see them up close but plan to do that and ultimately test them myself. I just have done quite a bit of looking around, and listening to what others experiences are.
@Steve-motorcycles
@Steve-motorcycles 2 года назад
@@idriveanagerar in general, the finish in the MT09 is great. However, the wiring is all exposed and does look unkempt. This is all to do with Yamaha’s striped back, minimalist, industrial look. You either go with it or, look elsewhere. No doubt, the looks are divisive. Personally, I like it and when you ride it, a lot can be forgiven. The Z900 also has divisive looks but because it been around a couple of years longer, is more familiar. Familiarity brings acceptance. The MT09 looks won’t be talked about after a while. The only criticism I could have with the Z900 is that it looks plasticky in places.

As an owner, yes the throttle is touchy. If you go over a rough patch of road, the engine will fluctuate because of the small movements in your hand. The best way I can describe it is, the first 5 deg you get 30% (guessing) of the power. It’s either on or off. But to get the rest of the power, you have to be aggressive with the twist.
