The 2021 Kia Seltos is based on the same platform as the Hyundai Kona. The key differences are, the Seltos rides a bit higher, which means it's a bit more comfortable but the Kona handles slightly better because of this. Obviously exterior and interior design changes but as a whole, the two cars are very similar and equally rewarding to own.

The Kona is nice looking but I heard that KIA cheapened the cabin with a bunch of plastic materials throughout ...Question; does the Seltos appear to share the same cost cutting measures as well? That's one reason why the Mazda CX-4 (CX-30) may be a better buy.

@@gregholman2930 Just now saw this...this is what Hyundai Kia does..even in the Cadenza. They flood the interior with piano black plastic to make it look "fancy" but at the end of the day it is a completely plastic interior. It is a budget car at a budget price I'm not knocking it for it but that is the reality

I bought my seltos a month ago. I love it. This is my second kia. My first was a soul. Which I also loved. I needed something a little bigger and this car fit the bill.

Thanks for reviewing the S model. Almost every other Seltos video is SX/fully loaded which doesn't interest me. More features/options = more to go wrong and more $ to fix.

I bought this exact model and color with awd. I love it! I've had it for 4 months now I think it's an exceptional value for what you get. Only thing I wish it had was the blind spot monitoring system but all the other safety systems work really well my favorite feature is the lane centering. It makes it less tiring on the hwy during longer trip. I get much better than advertised MPG just as long as you use the smart mode. It's an overall great commuter car for under $24,000

Well, I’m 19 I had a 2012 Nissan Juke unfortunately the engine went out and is not worth fixing. I am getting the Kia seltos LX on Friday and I can’t wait!

Great review! I am a senior citizen and test drove one the other weekend and for the price it's great value in my mind. I'll be buying one in the same color combo yellow/black in the next day or two. This color is hard to come by but I have located one so looking forward to getting it. It's been 15 yrs since I last bought a new vehicle so it's exciting.

Have this same vehicle in 'Mars Orange', and love it. It is much better than the Kona with regard to interior space, especially cargo space, which is why I didn't even look at the Kona. I traded a Soul for this one because of the added cargo room. I think the Seltos is the best vehicle in this class if cargo space is one of your top priorities. And I've been getting around 36 mpg in mixed driving (I always leave the ISG feature on), and that's hard to beat as well.

Love Kias. Have had 2. I've seen the Seltos in person. I'm just shocked how small it is cause it looks bigger in videos and pictures. I felt the same way about the Telluride. I think it'd be a great city commuter that you could use for a good 10 years. The Seltos looks good.

Great review. Thanks for mentioning things that other reviewers sometimes neglect such as the start/stop button and the multiport injected engine. Most hyundai/kias have a gdi so the one reason why I would go for this one is the port injection. I don't know how feasible this is but it would be cool to see a competition car for the cargo space. So instead of a full review on both cars, just keep the review as is and park something like a rav4 next to this and have the hatch open to see the size comparison. Stay safe, keep the lower trim reviews coming.

The RAV4 really isn't in the same class as the Seltos. The only competition with similar cargo space is the Suby Crosstrek, and the Seltos has a bit more. I can fit a full set of golf clubs in the Seltos with all seats in place, but not in my wife's Crosstrek.

We drove it and really like it. We are coming to the end of a lease on a Cadillac. What were we thinking buying a Cadillac?? Waste of $. I think we will end up with the Seltos. It’s all we need. And I can save $500 a month. Boom

I recently leased 2021 base AWD. I really like the ground clearance and approach angle. Great for driving in and out of stiff driveways plus great fun driving in snow. Solid built and the door has nice weights. Side sills are rubberized so you dont worry about scratching them while in and out of vehicles. I wish the fuel door stayed in place while pumping gas. There is no stopper, it flaps around. I end up holding with my hand while pumping the gas

Hey, how are you? I just purchased this vehicle last Saturday and I love it. The only thing that I wish it had was a push start button and I wanted the yellow color, which they didn't have. But overall, I like the drive, the size and the features, I upgraded from a Soul to a Seltos...so I'm happy. Both are great cars.

Did the same thing back in February (ie went from Soul, which I loved, to the Seltos). Love the extra cargo room in the Seltos, and love the car overall.

I visited the Kia website but it said the S had a 10.25 in. screen. Also, it looked the same as the higher trim models with no buttons to the side. why is yours 8 in.?

Is this the one for 21,990? It says on kia website. Then when you look at dealers they are more. I have a optima and I was thinking about trading. A better speaker system and better heat on the floor is my only complaints about my car now. That's why I would buy this. Hope those things are better on the s model. That's what I would get. And I wonder how the space compares between the optima and seltos

Oh yea the Optima is going away so that's being discounted heavily the K5 is the replacement for the Optima which will be a lot more money. Yea I would call the dealer I know they are willing to work out some prices

great review, makes me want to go out and buy one! I drive my moms sorento sometimes, and its a 2012 so its an oldy but even that one is a good vehicle. the 2016 sorento is like 100x better, so thats saying something about kias and how far theyve come!

I like the Seltos S because it lacks the stupid & gimmicky push-button start/proximity-fob system that most cars have adopted today, as well as having a regular pull-brake parking brake instead of the lame, nanny-tech electronic parking brake (eBrake). Having no power sunroof is also considered a plus, in my book. If I'm forced to have those features, I would rather buy a Mazda CX-30 Select trim & a regular 6-speed geared automatic (no delicate, random-self-destruct CVT transmission).

Yea and this is the small screen. It's crazy how they tell us to not play with our phones yet they keep putting larger and larger screens in cars. A new study showed that Drivers using Apple Carplay/Android Auto on their infotainment is leading to more distractions/accidents than texting. Crazy

Yea Forte is a great car nice handling but yea torsion does effect some ride quality but keeps costs low and makes room for more standard features at least thats what Kia claims

How to pronounce HYUNDAI. Well, it definitely is not pronounced "hun-day" as you do. Try saying it this way "hee-un-day" and the South Korean people will thank you. Go to Google and request 'how to pronounce Hyundai' and you will hear it spoken by a Korean correctly.
