Owned ours for a month. 1000km driven. 8.1l per 100km doing 70:30 city:country kms. It’s a rock solid car. We have a 18 month old kid and a big dog and it’s perfect for us. We just sold our GLC for this and have zero regrets.
@@bbbbbbbbbbbefw1606 ....I have an MY15 Optima and live in central Oz. I have driven to the Top End and back including on some rough unsealed roads including to Gonlom that a ranger told me later that the 4WD road to Jim Jim was in better Nick then the 2WD Gonlom road at the time. Driven to the lower Eyre Peninsula twice including unsealed limestone roads. It got stolen by some locals who took it bush bashing for the night. It is fair to say that my car has been somewhat abused. Would I buy another Kia? You betcha but something like the Sorrento that has some ground clearance and if Kia did a twincab ute it would be on the radar.
This car smashes the competition for six and exposes the poor value of 'premium' cars like VW Touareg and base model Q7/X5/ML that all cost 30k more than the much better equipped Sorento. Bravo Kia!
I just did a test drive of the Gt line-disesel, yesterday. What i observed: -Looks even better than in pics and videos, although the side view looks plain but it suits the overall muscular look. -Interior was very porsche and very high end. Infotainment was very smooth and high resolution. Only thing i didnt like were the air vents, not my taste but wife loved it. If this had the interior of the new 2022 tucson it would have been perfect. My other small issue was the driver display, the blindspot monitor in the display was small and most times unusable, check this if you have impaired vision. - The drive was almost perfect, the car had an intense acceleration. The diesel engine sounded mean and muscular. Very quiet inside the car, can only hear the engine at high revs. You feel the small bumps slightly because of those 20 inch alloys but on bigger bumps i felt nothing. 0-100 kmph was like 7 seconds. Car was giving 7-8 l per 100km mileage. Also, the car is ridiculously good on corners. This is my balanced view,i loved the car, its a percect family car. I will be buying the GT line diesel next month.
@@bbbbbbbbbbbefw1606 Man that sucks.. I think I read somewhere that Kia/Hyundai were using timing belts instead of chains in the sonata and optima around that time and some had a few issues did that have anything to do with it? Curious..
I have personally test drove one of these vehicles only a couple of months ago and I may say that I was so impressed with what KIA are offering. It drove absolutely beautiful and and handled great, The comfort was outstanding, I had no dramas with the power and responsiveness. I loved the interior design and it was encouraging to see KIA bring something different to the table. I personally rate it highly compared to other small SUV's in that price range. If anyone is looking for a new vehicle, id encourage you to just take one for a test drive and see what you think about it.
Had mine for a week, truly an amazing SUV with a European feel, and you are right, no other vehicle comes near it for the value and features. Luv the muscle car look about it. Well done KIA, going from strength to strength...
Myself Im waiting for the plug in model here in Canada. I'll have to wait one more year : ( This car presentation is the best I've ever seen , My congratulations to Paul Maric
I think you will find the new Hyundai Sante Fe highlander will compete with the Sorrento and it will basically come down to which car you prefer to look at.
My parents just brought the top spec one the other day and man it’s a fantastic car I’ve loved driving it. The leg room is fantastic super comfy in the back and very quiet. The build on them done it so well Kia have done it so well. But thanks for the reviews you do they are super helpful. Hopefully ,ore skoda reviews soon 😊😊😊
For a 62K car it is a disappointing mess not to extend the curtain airbag. Sorento would have been better with 5 seat version with extra luggage space in that case. I would rather have kids safe than chat to them on driver talk.
Millard Keyes my parents don’t have super young kids anymore just me and my brother and we both in our 20s this car is just for them and so they can travel more and have to not worry about a trailer. After many years of hard work they deserve something nice. Little kids will not be in this car much only the two of them so they are happy with it. Can see where you are coming from though. 😊
Millard Keyes not many if any cars have airbags on the third rim unless it’s a people mover van. So to bag out this car on something like that like your shit don’t stink isn’t appropriate
@John Cain it’s quite in highways and urban as well don’t hear much noise. But only when you are outside you notice inside the cabin is quiet. Very nice cars to drive
I sat in one of these today and I’m completely won over. The interior design is amazing. I especially love the bonnet hump you can see from the drivers seat. Very impressed.
I just love the way you go into detail on knee rooms and head room. I think your the only motor journalist who does that with such enthusiasm..Great job keep them coming especially SUVS
Great thorough review. I have owned a Kia Sportage 2.0 diesel 4x4 for 12 years. One of the best vehicles I have ever owned. I like the current quality of Kia, don’t like too much tech. Nice as an option but one of the reasons my Kia has lasted so long, is... not too much to break. Thanks again for the thorough review, much better than what I am seeing on other channels.
One of the most detailed yet concise review of this vehicle! I think the material is called liquid metal paint. It is not aluminum, but an expensive painting material of some sort. I heard the chief designer mentioning it while introducing palisade's grilles.
Best review Paul... As always... Just one thing do this new sorento has parking assist system...like parallel park assist or perpendicular park assist? ...It got Remote parking assist though to be honest it is not practical in public parking spaces like shopping malls... but it's good for home garage parking when you squeeze two big cars in... lmao
I am definitely considering this car over my XTrail which I recently purchased and instantly fall in love the way it looks, it's one of the best looking and feature packed car in today's time
Mine is ordered and I'm only 1 week into my 3 month wait. I was told, come January some order times could be 5 months?? I am obsessed with this SUV. As cheesy as it sounds, the second I got into it, I felt at home. It's so well designed. I laughed with the salesman that the remote parking is cool but who would ACTUALLY use it that often in the real world? Turns out: me. I would. In the test drive I ended up having to park it in the world's smallest carpark. I became nervous, not familiar with the cars size etc. Let me tell you, the amount of help it gave me when parking was crazy, and wouldn't you know it.... Right there... In the real world... There wasn't enough room for me to open the car door. I needed the remote parking feature. And it was magical. I can't wait to sit and discover all its tech and customise it for myself.
We own a 2015 Sorento SX and are very happy with it. It has similar plusses and minuses. I'm pleasantly surprised at how effortlessly it copes with gravel roads and towing. Touring is a pleasure. I will definitely consider buying one again
Saw one of these in a coles carpark yesterday - looks so much better in the flesh. Over web press I thought it was questionable but it’s actually a nice car!
I drove test one 2 days ago. Made the deal and my 6 months (sadly, realistically probably more thank 6) are running for delivery in Australia. Then I found this review and I don't have regrets for now. Even got the same colour. I have hear the reputation of Kia but 7year warranty is not bad at all.
Finally! Was sooo eagerly awaiting your review. While there are other Australian Channels as well that did the review of Sorento before you did, I was eagerly awaiting your comprehensive review. Interestingly and unfortunately, there are no plans for Kia to launch Sorento in India. Intriguing. Kia really took off well in India with only two products in their portfolio - Seltos and Carnival (the old generation. And there is official words that the newer one is not coming to our shore until 2022 😞). In fact, it’s the Seltos that wrote the success story of Kia in India. They have the highest number of sales figure despite having “extremely” tough competition from the already established player in this segment.
@@mikeykeyes : Well, that's not exactly is true. First, it's true that Seltos sold in India is not AWD (All Wheel Drive) but FWD (Front Wheel Drive) that kept the cost low, hence making it accessible to a large population. Still, it does not come cheap. But Kia brilliantly managed to mask the offroad incapabilities of Seltos by throwing in a lot of features, some of which are segment-first, in the car. This, somehow, made it feel like a Value-For-Money proposition. Second, it'd be an overstatement to say that 80% of roads in India are like offroad terrain. It might be in the past that pushed the automakers to develop a model for the Indian market different from the one offered in the international market. But its a passe. FYI, India is the largest growing market for the auto industry. This wouldn't be possible if the infrastructure in India was undeveloped for those auto companies.
Great features and loved the size of panoramic roof. Just want Kia to stand the test of time, with the build quality. Really impressed with the new look Sorento. Rear reminds me of Mustang.
Waited 18 months to get this car for my wife. She loves it and i do too. I disagree with the comment that the remote parking is a gimmick. Have you ever parked in an underground structure with its narrow spots and concrete pylons everywhere? Love the engine (got the 6 cylinder petrol) the driver aids, the space, the interior (got the gt line) and the look. Wish the towing capacity was higher. There are also some foibles when using the radar cruise control.
The ambient sound tracks - they are fitted into Genesis vehicles, just part of elements that Hyundai / Kia group is adding to high end vehicles to add a sense of luxury.
Awesome review Paul. Looking at buying this car once the Melbourne lockdown allows some testdriving. Interesting about the 12v socket up front, I use it for 45w PD to charge Samsung phones extremely quick, whereas the normal USB outlets are very slow charging in comparison
I'm really enjoying your videos, currently looking to buy either an SUV or station wagon in the 40-60k (maybe 70k if it was a great deal) in 2022, whats your top 3? Santa Fe and Sorento both look good.
Thanks for watching! To be honest, the Sorento would be at the top of the list followed by the Santa Fe. If you want something with a bit of off-road prowess I'd also include the Pajero Sport in the list.
Excellent review. I rarely, if ever, watch vehicle reviews, however it is very clear to me that you are knowledgeable & very experienced. This vehicle is definitely on my radar as next purchase.Thankyou!
Great reviews! Always very through. I need some advice. I need a 7 seater that still has good boot space? And air bags all the way to the 3rd row. I was thinking the brand new Kia Carnival coming in 2021 OR the Mercedes GLS 400d. But I'm worried it would be like a truck to drive (Merc) and feel like the Carnival would be like a bus to drive. Is there a slight smaller Merc but with the same boot space? I need something that fits older kids to teens comfortably in the very back as well as great boot space. This sportage just doesn't have enough boot space sadly. Could you please give me you opinion on what you would choose if you were me? Or is there any other options I'm unaware of? Obviously a huge price difference bet the Merc and Kia. Also my husband wants to tow a big caravan and I know the Kia can't do that but if you think its the better option I'm still willing to consider it. Regards Melissa. 😊
Thanks for watching! There's one you didn't mention that will meet the brief for what you're after. The Land Rover Discovery offers seating in the third row for adults and there's also storage room behind the third row. It's also capable of towing 3500kg with a braked trailer, even with the entry-level four-cylinder model. It's also worth having a look at the GLS. It looks like a bit car, but it's surprisingly easy to drive - while you're at it, I'd also throw the BMW X7 into the mix as well, that way you have all bases covered!
@@CarExpertAus Thank you so much for your reply, it helps me so much! I'll check all 3 out again, im a bit worried about trying to park the Merc GLS as it looks like a truck lol I also wonder do you know if it would fit in a standard size garage?
Also out of the 3 as far as build quality, drivability, reliability and warranty, is there a clear winner for you? One you'd easily choose above the rest? I've heard Land Rovers aren't very reliable. 🤔
Land Rovers have the poorest quality and brake down a lot Mercedes Gls and Bmw x7 are nice cars but expensive. And both have expensive repairs... if it is for towing and an every day driver look at the other Korean brand Ssangyong (if not bankrupt of course). Quality is excellent and for towing they are body on frame build (like a big truck). Just like Iveco daily vans fe. Is ideal. So only benefits. Quality is great, towing ok, cheap to repair and not expensive. Half of a gls or x7. And not get stolen easily.
Interesting, great tech. What are your thoughts of the kia versus kodiak and vw all space, for the 65 k mark they are all on par, although looks as of kia had way more inclusions
1: Why can’t they make these SUV’s a little more taller like a rang rover vogue so that it doesn’t seem like an estate(audi q7) 2: the third row rear window is so small, how is anyone supposed to look out on a long journey, without feeling claustrophobic Otherwise I am very impressed and interested in buying this car
How would the petrol one compare to this one? If you aren't doing serious off road driving, but you go occasionally on rough gravel or wet grass, would the petrol be okay?
Hi Paul , I’m new to your channel , I’m so impressed with your presentations , chock full of knowledge and honesty , well done mate , You just sold me on the SORRENTO , I’m not the smartest kangaroo in the back paddock on tech , but I’m going to have to learn some brilliant features , again thank you 👍🇦🇺
Looking at buying this car. This was a really thorough review. I’ll be definitely watching more for the other cars we are considering. I normally watch carwow but always wanted the Australian review! Great job.
“Someone tell me in the comments what this brushed chrome material is...” It’s called plastic. Lol “This material on the dashboard is interesting, not sure what it is...” It’s also called plastic, coated plastic.
Hi Paul, I'm a big fan of you.. Please suggest best car among CX9 Azami and Kia Sorento GT-Line 2021..??? I'm planning to buy one in couple of days.. Thanks in advance :)
@@gauravmangal1850 , CX9 looks big on the outside but is definitely more cramp internally. Especially the 3rd row seats. I knew because my brother got the CX9 and I when for the Sorento. we bought around the same time. Happy driving. 😀
I love your reviews but totally disagree with your dislike of the piano black in any car you review! I'm a lover of piano black and a lot of people are, gives a classy quality look! Yes each to there own but remember your bug bear isn't everyone's! Keep up the good work👍
we are a family of 7 and currently drive the kia carnival VQ 2.9 Diesel. Would it be a ways forward to get this sorento as a ways forward? whatcha reckon?
Engine noise is fine inside the car, it can be a little noisy on the outside (the diesel). The V6 is a very smooth and silky engine, the only downside is it's only available as front-wheel drive unfortunately.
Great review, the only thing I am a bit concerned about is the only AWD is diesel, will diesel be banned in Australia any time soon like it has been done in some asian countries?
Diesel will not be banned in Australia for for many years if not decades. We rely heavily on Diesel powered vehicles in our vastly populated country. Diesel will not be banned but phased out and limited in Europe.
One must wonder why Hyundai opted not to offer a 7-passenger feature in its comparable Santa Fe. The Palisade and Telluride are extremely boxy and takes up a lot more room in the car port, which can be intidating for some drivers. For those of us carting around a lot of young kids the third row is a nice benefit when it's needed.
Love it Paul, can you please do the new 2023 Kia Seltos GT AWD? 🙏❤❤ I heard they dropped off the 360 camera on the Australian version compared to the Korean version - wonder why?
There’s a free app that measures decibels - it would be great to get a decibel reading at 100km and on dirt roads, then you can measure which car is quietest.
Am in the market at pressent for an SUV with large boot space that is easy access for middle row passenger and room for wheelchair over the back. Have had a Passat Alltrack Wolfsburg for 4 years so spoilt for comfort, features and fuel efficiency. considering the New Kia Sorento, Skoda Kodiac, Issuzu MUX, etc but are there any comparisons/advice out there? not coming accross anything other than individual reviews.
Great review of the Sorento. Unfortunately supply issues are creating havoc in Australia. Now looking at the Peugeot 5008 which is a beautiful vehicle albeit a little smaller than the Sorento in the third row! Would like to see a CarExpert review of that too!
When I saw the Off Road modes on the T.V. commercial last night I got a bit excited and thought that Kia had returned the Sorento to its roots and put a Low Range Transfer Case in and given it a bit of off-road ability but unfortunately not.
Hey Paul I am in the market for a new car and have narrowed down to new Sorento and cx9. Where would your money be ? In New Zealand where I am the cx9 would be around $6k cheaper than the Sorento
Hey Sid - wow, that's a big price difference! Mazda is going to launch an update to the CX-9 soon. So if you can hold out for that, I'd go the CX-9 based on price.
So between this and the SKoda Superb Scout ...which would be better as 1 is petrol this is disel and 1 lower and this higher ....I have 4 dogs and both seems nice HELp me decide pls
Kia N.Z. have upgraded the tow rating for this model to 2500kg braked. Am comparing this with the Ford Everest for towing (3100kg) - close enough for my needs. It looks great and a few grand less than the Everest Titanium. Hmmm - how much do I want running boards and 4WD low ratio that the Everest has?
Kia Sorento 2021 currently doesn't come with wireless Android Auto, However, the American model does support wireless AA, is there a possibility we will get the same in Australia via some kind of update to the infotainment system. Is it capable to support wireless android auto? Does it have wifi modem built-in?
